ANTHONY NWAKAEME JUST CAN'T STOP
SCORING IN ISRAEL

Nwakaeme

Red-hot Nigerian striker Anthony Nwakaeme
continued his impressive run for Israeli team
Hapoel Be'er Sheva as he scored a brace in their
2-1 win over Maccabi Haifa in a Toto Cup game.

Nwakaeme has now scored 13 goals in all competitions - seven goals in 10 league games,
two in the Toto Cup and one in the Europa
League.

It is an impressive tally that should interest
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr especially after
Nwakaeme has said he is open to now feature for the Super Eagles after concentrating on his club career.

GERNOT ROHR: NIGERIA FIRED UP TO QUALIFY FOR WORLD CUP

Victor Moses - Eagles star

Nigeria are highly motivated to qualify for the
2018 World Cup in Russia even though the
qualifying tournament still has a long way to go,
according to coach Gernot Rohr.

The Super Eagles have missed out on two straight AFCONs, but they lead their qualifying group for Russia 2018 with six points after two rounds of matches.

Cameroon have two points, while Zambia and
Algeria are on a point each.

Rohr said his team are motivated to play at the
World Cup in Russia.

“They are very motivated. To qualify for Russia is more than a dream, it is something they want to have, they missed another AFCON, that is difficult for a big country like Nigeria,” said the Franco-German coach.

“They are hungry, they want to go to World Cup and because they are young, they don’t have so many titles, experience in international football.

“But they will always fight for their country, they will always give their best.

“It’s a good feeling (to be top of the group), but
there is still a long way to go to Russia. We still
have another four games and 12 more points. We are happy but we are also humbled.”

Rohr said he is happy with the progress of the
team, but at the same time admitted there is still a lot more work to be done before the World Cup qualifiers resume in August 2017.

“The players are changing but the philosophy
remains the same, the players could come and go but spirit remains and this is very important for the future,” he remarked.

“We must have a stronger team in certain
positions, we have some problems, we must be
honest about this. Not all is perfect, there is still a lot of work to do in some positions, but we must find better solutions.”

Guy easy nawww! Your use of language in all honesty is brash if not downright disrespectful. I was attracted to this thread because of the level headed discourse on football going on here but it's gradually turning toxic and without being accusatory, I'd say you don't like being disagreed with and you fling words out in a way that can hurt others. We are all guys. Please let's be civil and respectful to each other even when view points differ. We should persuade, coax, convince not cut others with rude words, dismiss their opinions and even rubbish their person. Yes I am new to this thread but I will not standby and allow disrespect and coarseness and unfeelingness to be aimed at anyone. I am not the self appointed policeman here but I swear, I will not standby because the least we owe each other here is respect.

Sadly, the thread is going downhill, seems like a high-school thread where you attack whoever comes across your lane. I was reading the comments I missed, about 70% of the comments coming from TheSuperNerd all had various degrees of insults embedded into them, i have already complained about it before but it's a free world sha, guess it's his nature, we will just accept it and move on

Okocha Speaks On 1993 Goal Of The Season: Nothing Personal Against Kahn

Retired Nigeria international Jay-Jay Okocha has
commented on his goal against Karlsruhe in the
Bundesliga back in the 1992-1993 season which
was voted Goal of the Season by many publications.

With the scoreboard reading 2-1, Okocha, who
was introduced in the 66th minute, received a
pass from Uwe Bein and saw himself surrounded
by the whole Karlsruhe defense but refused to be discouraged.

He dribbled the defenders and goalkeeping
legend Oliver Kahn , changed direction and was
unpredictable in all his moves, before slotting the ball past Kahn.

“It’s great to be back in my 2nd home, my career began here. The goal against @OliverKahn was nothing personal, ” Okocha said.

Okocha scored that memorable goal in the 87th
minute of the contest at the Commerzbank Arena on August 31, 1993.

Now 43, he spent four years with Eintracht
Frankfurt and later represented Fenerbahce, PSG, Bolton Wanderers and Hull City.

It's really going downhill. Whether we know it or not, people are reading this thread. As an indication of the reach of the opinions being expressed on nairaland I was pleasantly surprised the other day to read- during the US presidential elections - on the BBC online news service, a sample of opinions expressed here on nairaland relating to the elections. I think we can disagree without being disagreeable. The other day goodjoe and more recently Chris celebrated their birthdays and the filial and fraternal feelings of love and good wishes expressed was really very heartwarming to me. Granted we cannot all discuss on a topic as emotive as football without sparring with one another but if that becomes normative then what we'd have here is a madhouse for deranged souls. Goodjoe is almost fanatical about Iheanacho /Gaurdiola but his responses are usually measured and not in the least insulting. Please for the good of football, for the good of our human dignity let's raise the bar of discussion here and make respect, tact, civility, goodwill, cheer, passion, grace our watchword. Abeg everybody!

VICTOR MOSES TO BARCELONA: SO IMPROBABLE, IT JUST MIGHT WORK

The reported interest of the Catalan giants has taken everyone by surprise, but it's so bold and daring that it might be the perfect solution to a problem position this season.

COMMENT By Solace Chukwu Follow on Twitter

Life comes at you quickly. So too does football, as any goalkeeper will attest. Six months ago, Victor Moses ticked West Ham United on the list of sides he'd represented in the Premier League, That number stands at five, and the question was, who would be number six?

The turnaround in fortunes, from being the
talented-but-not-quite surplus to team staple has been sudden, but even though Antonio Conte insisted on having him as a part of the squad, it was not always on.

As a matter of fact, Moses started none of Chelsea’s first six league games; the Blues have won every game since, and the Nigeria international has flourished in an unfamiliar wing-back role.

While he has taken his chance admirably, his rise has exploited something of a squad imbalance.

The lack of an attacking full-back at Stamford
Bridge, as well as the specialist nature of the
wing-back role, has allowed him learn the position without pressure.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been pressed into service as part of the back three, and has been excellent, while Branislav Ivanovic has been on the wane over the last two seasons. Ola Aina is promising, but on the evidence of their League Cup loss to West Ham in October, he is nowhere near ready for the first-team.

This makes the reported interest of Barcelona
interesting.

On some level, it is tempting to be cynical and
chalk it up to the machinations of the player’s
agent. It is smart too: the Blaugrana also lack a
specialist right-back, and have been forced to
make do in that position since Daniel Alves got
bored and packed off to Turin in the summer.

Moses doing his Barcelona prospects no
harm at all. 7:40 PM - 26 Nov 2016

Midfielder Sergi Roberto has filled in for the most part, but after an initial period of promise, his discomfort has led to a significant amount of
wobbling. Barca’s decision to return to their old
haunt in Sevilla for another right-back has not
panned out either: Aleix Vidal has not taken to
Camp Nou in the manner that Alves managed,
and now seems permanently consigned to the
back of the closet.

Victor Moses could be the third Nigerian to turn out for Barcelona, after Okunowo and Amuneke. Interestingly, all three wide players. 6:16 PM - 25 Nov 2016

Clearly, there is an opening there. The question is whether Moses is the right shape of peg.

The answer to that is, as one might guess,
maybe.

There are a number of factors to consider, not
least of all tactical concerns. One thing is
undeniable though: with Guardiola’s Barcelona,
Moses would struggle to play at full-back. Under
Enrique, the five-time European champions are
more direct from back to front, and require less
ball retention at full-back than they once did, and that Alves provided.

Their build-up is also more based around the wide areas, as the absence of Andres Iniesta has made them easier to press centrally. This new wide focus would certainly be to Moses’ advantage, as he would not necessarily be required to pinch diagonally infield, and can concentrate on hugging the touchline like he does at Chelsea.

His physical attributes have also brought the best out of Pedro so far this season, allowing the
Spaniard to play between the lines, confident in
Moses’ ability to cover the flank. One could
envisage a similar relationship with Lionel Messi
down the right side. Alves provided more assists
for the five-time Fifa Ballon d’Or winner than
anyone else in his time at the club - a good
working connection with Messi is the key to a long career at Camp Nou.
grin grin **on a flip note... na wa ooo**

If the interest is indeed concrete, it is easy to
appreciate in terms of his offensive attributes:

Moses is quick, direct, superb with the ball at his feet and a proficient crosser of the ball. On the defensive side of the spectrum though, there requires a bit of a leap of faith.

His application to his wing-back re-education has been remarkable, of course, and Conte has
praised his work rate and tenacity defensively.

However, with Chelsea fielding a bach three,
there has been little call for the 26-year-old to
defend inside his own box, or to drop behind the
defensive line to cover the back post.

These basics of full-back play do not come
naturally yet - a wing-back, especially in a back
three system, is not simply a full-back who
attacks. The requirements for both roles are
markedly different, and it is not certain that
Moses will pick that up.

It is even less so that, at Barcelona, and with the pressing nature of their need, he will get the
time, patience and specialised coaching needed
to make this transition. As stated earlier, the
conditions at Chelsea conspired rather fortuitously in his favour, but as is evident with Aleix Vidal, the pressure to perform is always high at Camp Nou.

However, it is worth noting that Alves was not
always a great defender. In truth, he was viewed
as something of a defensive liability early in his
Barca career, and was frequently targeted by
Cristiano Ronaldo during Clasicos.

So, if Luis Enrique’s side hope to make good on
their reported interest in Moses, there will be
some patience required as a part of his learning
curve.

However, much like with Alves, his application
and quality will more than make up the deficit.
Sometimes, to replace a great, you have to think outside the box. Moses at right-back is as
unorthodox as a solution can be. So much so, in
fact, that it just might be.

FALCONS VS CAMEROON AWCON FINAL SETS
TONE FOR WORLD CUP DOUBLE HEADER

Falcons Onome Ebi (right) against Cameroon in the 2014 women's AFCON final in Namibia

The outcome of Saturday’s women’s AFCON final between hosts Cameroon and defending
champions Nigeria will most certainly set the tone for next year’s 2018 World Cup double header between both countries.

Nigeria and Cameroon were lumped into the so-
called African qualifying series ’Group of Death’,
alongside Algeria and Zambia, when the draw was made for the big race to Russia.

However, the Super Eagles now have a vice grip on the pool after winning their first two matches of the series, and are four points clear of second–placed Cameroon, who have just two points.

The next two matchdays, which will pit the Eagles and the Lions against themselves in Uyo and Limbe, are seen as capable of determining the team that will come out of that pool to represent Africa.

A win in both matches will catapult the Eagles to the World Cup, with only the minimum to do in their remaining two matches.

Conversely, victory in both games will renew
Cameroon’s hopes of a seventh FIFA World Cup
finals appearance.

Another consideration for the Super Falcons
however, is the pinfall handed the Super Eagles
16 years ago by the Lions, in front of home fans
during the final of the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations competition.

On the eve of St. Valentine’s Day in 2000, the
Lions showed no love to a packed National
Stadium in Lagos as they raced to a 2-0 lead with goals from Samuel Eto’o Fils and Patrick Mboma.

Chukwu Ndukwe reduced the tally just before half time and ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha slammed in a long-range equaliser just after the restart, but Nigeria lost following a dramatic penalty shoot-out, in which Tunisian referee Mourad Daami ruled Victor Ikpeba’s kick that bounced behind goalkeeper Alioum Boukar a no-goal.

Saturday is an opportunity for pay–back, even
though these are the women.

The Falcons are unlikely to forget that the Lions
also beat the Super Eagles in the Cup of Nations
final of 1984 and 1988, and stopped Nigeria from going to the 1990 FIFA World Cup after winning 1-0 in Yaounde when the Eagles needed a draw.

The Lionesses themselves will recall how the
Falcons badgered them to a 2-0 defeat in
Windhoek in the final of the last edition, and how the Eagles bundled then Cup holders Cameroon out at the quarter final stage of the 2004 Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

The Falcons are yet to lose a Cup of Nations final
match, winning in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004,

I dont know about a special award for it. *scratches head*

The article said it was voted Goal of the season by many publications.

Puskas award didn't exist then. **ehyeeaaa

Mickael2:

If a brazillian scores that goal, it will be dubbed the best goal in the last 10000000 years. Racism is still real, that goal didn't even win any special award did it?

Now, that Leicester has agreed a deal for Ndidi. Would Ndidi be cup-tied for champions league games since he has already played the Europa cup?

Ranieri Reacts To Leicester City Interest In
Wilfred Ndidi

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has played down reports linking the Premier League
champions with a move for Nigeria international
Wilfred Ndidi in the January transfer window.

It has been claimed that the Racing Genk
midfielder has agreed a five-year deal with the
Foxes, with effect from January, with the Belgian
team set to pocket around 14 million pounds
transfer fee.

“I can tell you it’s only speculation and I don’t
talk about players coming in or going out, ”
Ranieri told reporters at Thursday’s press conference.

“I’m sorry, I don’t speak, I’m only a coach. I am
focused only on Saturday.”

Wilfred Ndidi, 19, joined Racing Genk in January
2015 from Nath Boys of Lagos.

FALCONS VS CAMEROON AWCON FINAL SETS
TONE FOR WORLD CUP DOUBLE HEADER

The Falcons are yet to lose a Cup of Nations final
match, winning in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004,
2006, 2010 and 2014.

Nope he won't be cup-tied I think..... It's a different scenario if Genk had played Champions league football before falling to the Europa.

He's not played UCL football yet. And the UCL is entirely different from the Europa.

Here's what I found from "cup-tied" wikipedia page:

Further, as per Champions League regulation 17.18, one player per club who would normally be cup-tied can be registered and eligible to play, so long as his previous club did not field him in the same competition, meaning that this player can represent two different clubs in the Europa League and Champions League.

However, if the first club fielded him in the
Champions League, but would later play in the
Europa League through finishing third in the
group stage, the transferred player is ineligible to play in the Europa League.
