Reports – Iheanacho Set For Summer Exit From Man City As He Doesn’t Fit Into Guardiola’s System

image
Manager of Manchester City Pep Guardiola will allow Kelechi leave Manchester City this summer according to reports coming out of the homeland of the manager.

Although Guardiola blocked him from leaving the club in January, a decision for him to leave in the summer has been reached, and according to some reports it has been communicated to the Nigeria international.

Guardiola didn’t list Iheanacho in his matchday squad for the club’s last four games, and it is reported that he has told the 20 year old that he is free to leave the club in the summer.

Iheanacho will be allowed to leave the Etihad in the summer, on an initial loan deal with the option of a permanent deal at the end of next season, as he failed to convince Guardiola during the injury enforced absence of star forward Sergio Kun Aguero.

Spanish online media Fichajes.com reports that Guardiola has decided to keep Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Kun Aguero at the end of the season, and the club is willing to listen to offers for Kelechi Iheanacho.

I knew Nacho was screwed as soon as city signed Gabriel Jesus. I also knew Pep was a liar when he said Jesus wouldn't play as a CF. He needs to leave.

Not comparable, Leicester had 2 or 3 outstanding players in their team. Trophy winning Chelsea teams had a lot more. Every player was a star in his own right. In that kind of team, your work gets overlooked.
Would Leicester have won the league with Mikel instead of Kante??

He was great, but not as good as Kante was. Kante was practical 2 players in one. It's no coincidence Leicester is flopping without him.

I remember Garba Lawal. Always picked by Nigerian coaches in our star studded teams. Every coach chose him but no one liked him. He did not have the skill and technique of Kanu, Okocha, Amokachi, Amuneke etc but he seemed to be first on the team list.

my criteria for being world class:

1. be an exceptional performer in your role which all and sundry will acknowledge (not just club fans and country men)

2. personal awards won (best goalkeeper, top scorer, team of tournament etc)

3. churning out consistent good sometimes great performances over a long period of time for club and country

4. trophies won club or country

now if a player ticks all the boxes in the above mentioned criteria then i would consider him world class

Good... So was I among those who wrote off Cameroun?? undecided

Am I among those saying Cameroun will be a cake-walk?? undecided

You don't even have an idea of whom you address.... smiley

Where's the insult in the question I asked you? smiley

You don't have the "time" to argue or discuss football but put up this lengthy epistle right? smiley

Abeg.... If you have an opinion on football matters, back it up with facts not with mere comments and gut reasonings.... So far, all facts and records shows MIKEL IS WORLD CLASS.

So you can keep living in denial. I hate some statements which are absurd like Mikel cannot control a game's tempo and is irrelevant in Nigerian or African football. WHEN YOU SAW THOSE COMMENTS (SINCE YOU'VE BEEN FOLLOWING THE THREAD) WHAT DID YOU SAY? HUH?? You only jump in to support "Mikel is not world class" AND WITHOUT FACTS/STATS to back it up because you have never ever rated Mikel... How classic! smiley very very good of you... smiley

P.S: the argument against Mikel is flawed bcoz there are no stats/records/facts showing why he should not be regarded as WORLD CLASS. EVEN THE GUY YOU QUOTED TERMED HIM "WORLD CLASS" BY SCORING MIKEL 75% out of 100 (before he changed it to 70%)... Is 75% not an A?? Of course A beats A... Buttt... A is A.. EOD.

In my first degree, I was a top "A" smasher in the 80's range and sometimes, 90's range... Some others were almost always consistently hitting the 70-75% A mark... BUT I ASK... Does that make their credit point less than the "5" assigned to an A grade muliplied by the credit load for those courses??

Note: High school for me: A was 75%
For an external exam in SS2: It was 80%

For First med degree studies: A was 70%

Mikel is not world class "indeed".... What an argument grin

irrefragable:
I don't have the time to argue football with anyone because most times you don't achieve anything and it usually leads to insult. An average Nigerian's idea of world class is just a bit above average in the world stage that's why we hype our own too much here.

A lot of you are already tipping Nigeria to get an upper hand in the two - game encounter with Cameroon just like you did against Egypt in the nations cup qualifier. Let me tell you that game is a 50-50 chance which could swing either way even if Cameroon hadn't qualified from the group stage in the AFCON.

I followed this thread earlier and i saw some people write off Cameroon from getting to the final of the tournament. I LAUGHED. there is no way you could write off any of Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon and Nigeria as not being favorite to lift the afcon anytime even if their players are playing with half-leg. It's like writing off Brazil in the world Cup or writing off sevilla in the uefa cup. All I'm saying is some teams do feel it's their birthright to win the trophy in a particular tournament and it's stupid to write off that team even if you feel they are weak.

So what I'm saying is 1. MIKEL IS NOT WORLD CLASS (PERHARPS ALMOST) 2.THE GAME NIG VS CAM IS 50-50(NO FAVOURITE, COULD SWING EITHER WAY)

All in all, like i said i don't argue football nothing good ever comes out of it and this is just my opinion. Everybody is welcome to his /her own opinion.

American broadcaster ESPN has revealed its Premier League Young Team of the Season, with Super Eagles attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi making their ceremonial eleven.

On the same night that Wilfred Ndidi opened his goalscoring account for Leicester City, the central midfielder won the 2016 Goal of the Year at the 63rd edition of the Belgian Golden Shoe.

The Nigeria international was preparing to take to the pitch against Derby County in the fourth round of the FA Cup and was not present to receive the prestigious award on Wednesday.

Ndidi’s trademark shot from distance against Club Brugge in the First Division A playoffs on April 20 was voted the most eye-catching goal in Belgium for 2016.

The 20-year-old accumulated 2,385 votes to win the accolade, ahead of José Izqueirdo (1816), Ricardo van Rhijn (892) and Alexander Chipciu ( 865).

In the final classification for the Belgian Golden Shoe or Gouden Schoen, an award given to the best footballer in the Belgian top-flight for the past year, the Super Eagle ranked tenth.

Selection quandry for Broos

By: Andrew Randa | 08 Feb | 06:18

Broos
Cameroon’s victory at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations has thrown up a fresh look at how things may pan out in Group B of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles and Indomitable Lions will play back-to-back games against each other on August 28 and September 2, 2017, when the qualifiers resume late in the year.

Prior to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon was sitting second in the group with two points from two games. The Lions drew 1-1 with Algeria before being held 1-1 at home by the Chipolopolo of Zambia.

It all looked dire for Cameroon and things were set for Nigeria, considering the Super Eagles topped the group with maximum points from two games having beaten Zambia 2-1 in Ndola and defeated Algeria 3-1 in Uyo. That's until Gabon came and we saw the new Cameroon. Suddenly things don’t look that straightforward from a distance.

Hugo Broos was able to assemble a relatively new team to the 2017 Afcon tournament after seven key players withdrew from the squad.

The Belgian went about his business and even though the team didn’t click from the onset, the knock-out stages were where they served notice of how strong and compact a squad they are.

There was no star player in the team, their hard work, dedication and fitness saw them fight past Senegal, Ghana and Egypt in the final.

In retrospect, Cameroon wasn't flamboyant in victory neither did they look like a tournament-winning side but their grit and endeavour has proved that with determination and a great bond anything is possible.

That is the Cameroon we saw at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The World Cup qualifiers are an entirely different kettle of fish. Even though the stakes will be high, the dynamics will be totally different.

But like a double edged sword, Cameroon’s new found status can also be a bone in the neck in the grand scheme of things.

TO FORGIVE OR NOT?

It is not yet known if Broos will forgive the renegade players and bring them back into the fold or continue his journey with the squad that brought him glory in Gabon.

Cameroon will be stronger if the likes of Matip, Nyom and Choupo-Moting are recalled but it can also cause rancour within their ranks as certain players might feel unappreciated after giving their all at the Africa Cup of Nations

Being African champions brings its own pressure, the pressure to succeed and keep the momentum going, the pressure of keeping to the expectations of the tag of champions.

As Egypt (2004, 2006 and 2008) and Zambia (2012) can testify, being African champions comes with a huge weight of expectation and nothing is a given.

Winning the Africa Cup of Nations does not guarantee World Cup qualification. The intricacies involved and the dynamics make it a whole different scenario.

The World Cup qualifiers bring their own drama and Nigeria will be looking to edge ahead and wrap up the group with a win against the new champions.

SECOND HALF IS CRUCIAL

One thing is a given, the Super Eagles will have to be at their physical and mental best against Cameroon. The Lions have shown they can run and run at you non-stop. Each team they faced in Gabon was not able to keep up with them in the second half, Ghana and Egypt being perfect examples.

Their physicality and energy were some of the reasons they beat Ghana and Egypt at the Nations Cup. Cameroon won’t abandon that approach against Nigeria.

They will try to tire and outrun the Super Eagles in Uyo. How Nigeria respond will determine where the pendulum will swing on game day.

The Super Eagles will have to be at their optimal best if they hope to get anything out of the Cameroon game.

Luckily, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was in Gabon on punditry duties and would have seen a lot of the Cameroon side to give him pointers on how best to beat the central Africans.

Tianjin Teda Ponder Converting Nigeria Captain Mikel Into A Central Defender

Tianjin Teda Ponder Converting Nigeria Captain Mikel Into A Central Defender
Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda are in the worst form heading into the 2017 season, having lost seven of their warm-up matches.

In their latest preparation game, the ‎Jaime Pacheco-led side lost 3-0 to South Korean club Ulsan Hyundai, it is now obvious that they are weak and the fans are demanding explanations for this slump.

Tianjin Teda had the second worst defense in the Chinese Super League last season, having conceded 50 goals, three less than the worst team Shijiazhuang Ever Bright and their defensive woes have continued in pre-season with 22 goals conceded.

To stem the tide, manager Jaime Pacheco is mulling over converting his marque signing Obi Mikel into a central defender, and the Nigeria skipper appeared in the second half of the friendly versus Gyeongnam FC in that position.

Mikel was deployed in central defense by ex-Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink in few games last season, so he is not entirely a novice in that position.

Rohr Confesses Concerns About Beating South Africa Than Cameroun For Now

image
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says his focus is on their immediate task, which is the AFCON 2019 qualifiers tie against South Africa and not the World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Cameroun.

Rohr made this known during a chat with Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent in Sagamu shortly after watching Niger Tornadoes beat Remo Stars 1-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League game.

“I understand that Nigerians are concerned about our progress to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but don’t forget that we have not qualified for the AFCON since 2013 and the crucial game against South Africa is in June, so I want to focus on that,” Rohr said.

The German reasons that a good showing against South Africa will also serve as a morale-booster when the Indomitable Lions come calling in August.

“We have six months between now and August when we play Cameroun. Between now and then we are going to play two friendly games, as well as the qualifier against South Africa. If we do well in those games, it will help our confidence against Cameroun,” Rohr says.

And when Oriol recovered, did he put Mikel on the bench? That was Benitez trying to bring his Spanish philosophy to Chelsea to build his brand of games. It is not playing under one coach that made Mikel special but surviving multiple coaches with multiple challenges. At the end he stood tall in most Chelsea defining games. From the FA Cup final against a star studded Manchester United team to the Munich success. Not four months. We are talking over a decade.

You cannot deny the expert analyses by bright minds of the game at the highest level on Mikel's kinda game and role... You cannot... Stats/facts/records don't lie.... smiley

And it is not about passion for Nigeria or patriotism. It is rather about Truth. THERE ARE STILL MANY OF YOU HERE WHO DON'T RATE MIKEL FOR NOT WEARING THE MAN UTD SHIRT, OR FOR THE WAY HE DESTROYED BARCA'S MIDFIELD IN 2012..... Or even the way he dominated Toure at camp nou in that UCL semis first leg in 2009 (or 2011) which ended goalless before the 1-1 at stamford bridge (Iniesta strike) got barca through miraculously grin

MOST OF YOU OUGHT TO REMOVE THE SCALES FROM YOUR EYES AND CALL TRUTH, TRUTH... YOU RATE BUSQUETS... BUT YOU DON'T RATE MIKEL.... Exact same kinda players in the DM/CM role with marked effects and influence... With super achievements and with lots of world class performances at the highest level under their belts..... HOW CLASSIC!

PietroRico:
You lot are a special bunch and I love the passion you guys have for Nigerian football, I really do.
But this has to be the only place where anyone can call Mikel world class and not be beheaded grin.. You are taking this patriotism thing a tad too far

Almost all the points against have been made, no need for redundancy but I'm only going to chip this in.
A world class player would walk into 90% of teams Starting 11, without breaking a sweat.
How many teams would peak Mikel have walked into?
