Even on other forum we still get conflicting information. Yet there has been people granted VISA in the past without assessing their highest qualification. I am in this situation as well and I do not plan to assess. Unless if someone can tell me that it has change. I think the emphasis is on Over claiming point As long as you are sure of the point you should be save The above are my opinion. And I stand by it, If wrong please someone correct me with following info... 1) point claim 2) Name of school and country of school 3) Equivalent according to CEP ( lawland can help us out here) It will help me and others too Our ogas dem please come and put mouth .. cc Bellong, NNBB2012 etc doyen06: Azy123: Azy123: ZoeW: 1 Like |

Azy123: You can only claim point from the degree assessed. Don't make mistake of overclaiming points, it might lead to visa refusal. Your degree is not relevant to the occupation you nominated and that's why your certification was assessed instead. You have can either wait while waiting for 189 or apply for 190. If I were you, I would go for 190. 5 Likes |

ZoeW: No you can't. If I remember well, when filling application form post ITA, you will be asked to provide the relevant assessing authority when you enter your qualification. And when Dipb checks they would see the qualification assessed which is not BSc in this case. Just create another EOI for state nomination if you don't want to wait for 189. You should get nominated in no time. Cheers! |

ZoeW: @Zoew, can you please educate me on how you were able to claim 10 points for experience? I am of the opinion that work experience is counted after qualification, which in this case is October 2014, or is there something I'm missing? |
Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by Azy123(m): 11:41am On Jul 26, 2017 |
Well, this is bad news for me. But if that is the correct information. I'm glad I am getting it now rather than later. I will still do more research on this. Please if you have contrary information to NNB2012, doyen06, iceberg64 and alphadoor info/opinion on this matter. please come out and help a brother. All of a sudden 65 points has drop to 60 points. @ all please ask your questions here so others can counsel and advice. An individual might simply advice or inform you based on what he believe to be true. *Modified* As it turned out, after constructive argument, we can now say, 100% as @ 26th July 2017, that point can be claimed for the highest qualification obtained whether assessed or not. But it must be according to CEP. NNBB2012: 1 Like |

Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by lawland: 12:17pm On Jul 26, 2017 |
Azy123:There is always a conflicting information on this topic, but from my experience and that of my friends, you can only be denied visa for qualification if your assessing body assessed your highest qualification as not being comparable to AQF bachelors degree and you go ahead and claim 15 points. If your assessing body didn't assess your highest qualification because it is not related to your nominated occupation, you can go ahead and claim points for it as long as it is comparable to the AQF equivalent. Two ways to know this are by going for PTA with Vetasses or by accessing CEP. Vetassess and DIBP use CEP to assess qualification.A CO will never deny you visa straight away if he is not satisfied with the comparability of your qualification to AQF, you will be asked to go for PTA. Like i said, this is from my own personal experience, intensive research when i was in this situation and from my friends after me. 1 Like |

Thanks lawland for your comment. It is music to my ears. Can you please help with specifics. I try to send you a PM I don't know if you got it ( just in case you feel the specific are too personal). I need to be 100 % sure on this. Thanks. Please help to answer the questions below: 1) Did the assessing authority mention the degree at all. In my own case it was not mentioned. Same with ZoeW from that screenshot posted earlier 2) What point was claimed 3) What was the CEP equivalent 4) Were you or any of your friend asked to do VETASSES PTA and did it came out as the same to what was on the CEP. (4.5) Was the VISA granted . The most important question 5) In the case PTA comes out different, then point is overclaimed, do you think in that case CO may allow one to graciuosly withdraw the application citing human error in form filling?? lawland: |

Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by Alphadoor: 12:58pm On Jul 26, 2017 |
lawland: @lawland who certifies the highlighted or is it "Self Evaluation" please help me shed more light sir when you say friend experience or your experience. Did you or your friend claim points using a non assessed degree certificate and you have both gotten Direct Grant Letters. was you or your friend advised by CO to go for point test? I believe its not your duty to decisively self evaluate your AQF, its up to the assessing bodies to do this. Example.... @toslad had vetassess deny her degree while IPA or ICAA recognised it. ..... #5pts_Movement# 1 Like |

Ok.. 4 of my mates did Advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering here, they assessed their diploma qualification for electrical engineering draftsperson with EA and never mentioned their degrees. They got positive outcome and nothing about their degree was mentioned in the outcome letter. When filling the EOI, they entered their degree as their highest qualification and got 15 points for it. Specifics: one studied a 4 years course in Unilag, the other 2 studied a 5 yrs course from FUTO and one is french and studied in France. They all got their visa granted and no questions about qualification asked. I hope this answers all your questions? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Azy123: I just double checked this and I found out that you could actually claim points from your highest qualification eventhough is not mentioned in your assessment letter. However, the qualification in question MUST be equivalent to Australian Bachelor degree, as assessed by Vetassess or Case officer referring to CEP Where did you finish from and how many years? Take a look at the policy guideline below used by the case officer in decision making. Decision maker must also have regard to any other claims provided by the applicant that are relevant to the consideration of the qualification. It is anticipated that, generally, an applicant’s qualification claims will be assessed by the relevant assessing authority for the purpose of that authority issuing a skills assessment. If an assessing authority has provided an opinion on an applicant’s qualification, the applicant should provide this with their visa application, together with any other relevant supporting documentation to support their claims and should include copies of the qualifications and transcripts provided to the assessing authority. If an applicant may be issued with a suitable skills assessment based only on an assessment of an applicant’s claims of on the job training and skilled employment then, unless the applicant has other qualifications of a recognised standard, they are not eligible for educational factor points. If an applicant’s highest level educational qualification (including qualification at a doctorate level) is not related to the nominated or closely related occupation, the applicant can have their qualification assessed by VETASSESS as to the comparability of their qualification to Australian standards for the purpose of awarding points. Decision makers must have regard to any opinion provided by VETASSESS on an applicant’s qualification (as this is ‘any other relevant matter’ they must have regard to in determining whether an educational qualification is of a recognised standard, under regulation 2.26AC(5)(d)). If neither the relevant assessing authority nor VETASSESS has provided an opinion on an applicant’s qualifications, case officers must assess the qualification claims presented by the applicant. In such scenarios case officers should take into consideration any relevant information that is available to them, including information available on Country Education Profiles, advice from AEI - NOOSR and any other relevant evidence provided by the applicant. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by Alphadoor: 3:00pm On Jul 26, 2017 |
Misoke: Yes . you can select 189/190 as shown in the attached. There is no penalty for mulitple EOI's but once you get desired invite from any of the EOI its good withdraw the others. Having multiple EOI is to help you maximize your options E.g Just imagine getting a NSW nomination today ... and the next day a 189 nomination, multiple EOI gives you the chance to cancel the 190 and proceed with the 189. but if you received the 190 ITA under same profile, it automatically locks that profile for further ITA and if u decline the ITA, it puts back on the queue after 60 days. i hope am right though 1 Like

Plunge already taken since that is why I claimed 15 points. That was what I believed to be true but started doubting and fearing when I saw comments. As it is, nothing has changed. CASE CLOSED. This case was open on this forum and closed before with the same conclusion. Thanks lawland for the example from experience. If we like we can read all blogs but one single comparable experience helps put the mind at rest. Thanks NNBB2012 for the info. Alphadoor #5 pt_movement# Summary for others As far as you have a positive assessment from an assessing body and the point you are claiming is clearly supported by CEP. the following applies... 1) If you have a positive assessment with one qualification and have another qualification that is higher you can use the higher qualification to claim point. 2) If your assessment authority is silent on the higher qualification - you can claim point for it 3) If the qualification is not related to your occupation - you can claim point for it 4) Even if you complete the highest qualification yesterday - you can claim point for it today @ZoeW edit your 189 EOI Asap congrat on your ITA in advance Alphadoor: |
