aisha2: thanks for the great tips |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by MadMax1(f): 3:33pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
aisha2: I get what you mean about people giving you reason to doubt, and preferring to deal directly with the hospitals. Money brings out the worst in people. Are you confirming that you'll take up the boy's case? That would be so good. Donations will simply be made out to the hospital as suggested, and we'll know the actual costs involved. |

Write a check in favor of NTA? Nigerian Television Authority? |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by platinumnk(f): 3:55pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
Mad_Max: How to donate to the hospital, for me thats not easy. Thats why I opened up the online option so one payment can be sent at once. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by Nobody: 4:07pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
platinumnk:First of all, you get to know the Nigerian Hospital he is being treated, then make a cheque out in favor of the hospital for the treatment, this gives more credibility and protection against scams. platinumnk: TheSeeker:This happens if the child is to be treated outside the country and we cannot get cheques in favor of the hospital, we contact NTA who we have a partnership, all cheques will then be written in favor of NTA, when the parents have found a hospital abroad, NTA will make the payment to the hospital, we have had this partnership for years and it has worked against fraud and it helps people sleep better when partng with thier money. Platinukumvisit our website, there is a number there, you can call it so we could discuss more. Its www.giplc.org. If you call ask for my number, am currently out of the office. The Boy is recieving treatment t University of NNsuka Teaching Hospital, so preferbale, write a cheque in favor of the hospital. Make sure your money is going to the right place |

aisha2: ok I checked it out, its just that I dont write checks. Strictly cards or paypal. And I know a lot of people that are the same way as me, so what do we do then? Oh and oh yeah I was banned. - Spam like message- But I dont see where. funny. Im going to email Seun once about it, if he doesnt do anything, once the child gets his funding, then that will be the last of Plat on nairaland. |

aisha2:OK, I'll be sure to check a few things out. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by Nobody: 4:33pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
platnumnk.:If you collect the money donated, get someone you trust who has an account that can issue third party cheques torite a cheque in favor of the hospital for the said sum. Believe me its more stressful but if you want to help its better to do it right. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by platnumnk: 4:38pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
aisha2: Wouldnt it be more hassle to deposit checks from overseas? Is there a transfer of funds I can do? |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by Nobody: 4:42pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
Are you overseas Do you have someone you can trust to send the money to here and write a cheque to the hospital and sed it through DHL. Thats what we do. I spoke to the Boys mother, i am a social worker i have been doing this a longer time, i would feel safer apying to the hospital. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by TheSeeker(m): 5:01pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
Aisha, I just placed a call to the boy's mother and she said she'd appreciate if someone around comes to see the situation of things and talk extensively. I know we haven't come up with enough but also, it might be a good idea if someone from your agency can go there to see the boy to discuss some solutions such as one poster said earlier about some specialists at OAU. Let me know what you think, |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by platnumnk: 5:03pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
aisha2: Yes I am overseas. Surely the Hospital has an transfer number for funds. i hear about safety, But I have been doing payments online for about 5 years. I would rather do a wire transfer of a WU of the money to the Hospital where he is doing the operation. Is that possible. Checks are good, but I am going around my school and my workplace and collecting cash, they will also have to be sent. Not everyone has checks. |

Good wor. There is hope in our Generation. Good night dear friends, i have to go see my boys |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by TheSeeker(m): 5:36pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
I just got off the phone with the uncle now, I think I have someone in Enugu who can go and check things out. But 'aisha2', how soon can you have someone from your agency go there? |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by chosen04(f): 6:02pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
aisha2: I really dont get most of the points aisha2 makes. Why will she suggest writing cheque in favour of NTA? With the way she is talking about trying not to be scammed and she claims to be a social worker, she gives one the impression that we that have decided to use Joshua's mom acct to pay our money has been scammed alreay. I suspect we shld be very CAREFUL of her claim. She is just too interested the money that is yet to be realised. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by platnumnk: 6:21pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
^^ I understand, but The funds would be given to the hospital or the mother, not anyone else. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by Nobody: 6:48pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
Chosen 04, i understand your concern. Its safer to pay for treatment directly to the hospital. I see stuff everyday. If you want to help its good to be sure dat you are doing d right thing. We have raised over 30million 4 kids. All the money goes directly to the hospital not to us or any individual. This ensures credibility and speedy treatment. Am not saying you guys ve been scamed its just better to be safe to avoid stories. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by chosen04(f): 7:06pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
platnumnk.: Platnumnk, Thank and i understand. Bringing NTA or any other organisation into the scene at this moment may end up in disaster. aisha2, I understand ur fear, just that its capable of scaring potential donors, especially people that will want to use Joshua's mom's acct!!! |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by Nobody: 7:13pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
chosen04: Seconded!! Please don't lets change the plans now Let's stick to what was earlier agreed I am sorry Aisha but am not convinced!! Social worker in Nigeria I doubt if I ever heard of any or if they are functional!! You can try and raise money where you are as well and send it to the hospital!! Forget about scam, it might not be! let's just do it |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by chosen04(f): 7:33pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
aysometin: Thank u aysometin. Lets stick to the Plan. Its my 1st time of even hearing about social worker in Nigeria. Come to think of time! If we start sending all the money to the hospital, what happens to flight and Transport expense. And tired of people always wanting things to be done exactly same way it is done in their organisations/firms etc. |
Re: Help Me! Disfigured Teenage Student Cries Out by platnumnk: 8:50pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
aisha2: Wait. Excuse me?? Im not trying to take it as an insult, because this is Nigeria. Look, I will raise the funds. If you want to help, please do so, but your words are discouraging. And I ask people who I have spoken to before. I agree with your point with the hospital but not with the point of "avoiding stories" I am the one handling Nairalanders and Funds in the US/UK, another Nairalander is handling funds from Canada and other sources. I have a jar of funds I have collected from work. What stories is there to be said. Are u trying to stay something? Look- I live abroad. I know it might not mean much but, I have a very stable income. Lots of people hold fundraisers here and no one trips about it, I donate when ever I can. When people ask me to donate, I donate because I want to help, no to worry if it is a scam or not, if you have to worry then you need to hold on to your money. Because you need it more than what ever you are giving to. What more do you need? Have you contacted the hospitals? Sent your "organizations" to them? I dont like this tone you are taking, rallying up people to do things, when I have taken out my time and organized it, site went down and i rebuilt another one from scratch. Im not trying to boast, I just want you to see the effort put into this. And it hurts me when u insist on scaring people. My phone number is on the site, why not call me? To all those who have donated so far, Thank you. I will count the amount I collected at work and post. Might post pics too if I have time. **I am also holding a raffle for an iPhone ** but I think I might hold that one at work. That should raise money quickly. thanks |
