AnonyNymous:though u r not referencing from the article, i would respond from ur perspctive...u mentioned 'for their own safety' this simply means you acknowledge there is a chance peace or sanity is lost and violence occurs. Hence they took precautions, distributed at night. The law which chinakwe is charged of violating exists also for our own safety. Except you are intentionaly being insincere, u should know the group is more powerful than the individual. An individual kkk member wont go into a black dominated corner of the bronx or queens to show off his hatred...he wont survive, the police may not see his body. Even here in nigeria, as a group, a robbery gang or a cult may strike terror in the heart, but when they walk alone, they must respect themselves. That you have freedom of movement does not mean u move anywhere, there are sports u avoid for ur own safety, and the safety of others. True we enjoy certain freedoms, it does not give us rights to trample on other peoples sensitivities. I will end my comment wit a scenario. Please be fair and sincere in ur assesment of this. Imagine u and i are neighbours, u are married with a six months old baby, i ama bachelor who is care free and believes strongly that that constitution guarantees me freedom. So all day i am in party mood with my sound system. Afteral, i bought the system with my money i fuel my gen myself, as long as i dont put my speakers in ur room, it shouldnt be ur concern, however, i have a speaker just outside my bathroom which faces directly into your babys room so all day and through the night i am playing loud music (my business). You try resolving this with me tru talks but i only turn the music louder. How long before this case degenerates into violence? If u report me to the police and i am charged for a conduct likely to breach the peace would it be wrong? |

bonechamberlain: Chinakwe has learnt his lesson and is now professing love for everything named Buhari. His brain is now reset to its default setting. Public disorder has been avoided and peace continues to reign in the man's community and the market. All's well that ends well. That's the power of corrective punishment. Mental pygmies can continue to rant. 1 Like |

Kakamorufu:e tire me oh. What is "buhari"? buhari is a gworo chewing daura dullardo-basterrd cow. I can't give my pet such a horrible name. I'm sure the dog would reject the name if it could talk. buhari is never a nice name. |

fiizznation: Did you even read the article? It clearly states that the man was arrested because he wrote his neighbour's father's name on his dog as a form of mockery. It had nothing to do with President Buhari. TheArchangel: Don't mind them. Soon it'll be common to see Christians being arrested and legally detained just for preaching the word of God in their midst. 1 Like |

bonechamberlain:That is what it means to be proactive, rather than looking for how to investigate when the deed has already been done. Its quite unfortunate that most people, especially nigerians dont know the situation in Nigeria now. Any little thing can at this moment spring up voilence. So its better to arrest the situation than to start battling with "who killed who". |

Naijageak:the man not only named his dog "buhari", but went ahead to paint it all around the dog! , if he was not looking for trouble, what was he looking for! he knows fully well that people in his community has some sort of reverence for that name yet he went ahead to parade that dog in the community. He was looking for trouble and he has found it! |
Re: Joachim Iroko Remanded In Prison For Naming His Dog Buhari by Nobody: 11:42am On Aug 23, 2016 |
Timoleon:Making noise like that without a noise permit is wrong, it's a crime, and I'd obviously go report to the police. That one isn't freedom of speech, because you're infringing on my rights. Its physically affecting me. The man with the dog wasn't harming anybody. He was walking around with the dog in a Hausa area. As I said, 'for their own safety'. Do you think if a single KKK member went to a black neighborhood and he was beaten, if he comes out a live he won't tell the police? The black people will be the ones arrested for violence. Although the black people are now arrested, the KKK guy suffers the pain of the injuries. Thats why he won't do such. But in a democratic society, where there is freedom of expression, people are supposed to learn how to take contrary opinions. As I said, Westboro Baptist Church are known for showing up at lgbt+ where there are usually thousands of gay and lesbian people. Its during the gay parades and ceremonies that they raise up anti-gay signs. But the lgbt+ have learned how to ignore the protests, which they find offensive. My point is that while it was very offensive to the Hausa people to parade the dog, its still under his rights as a citizen of Nigeri, a member of the UN. 1 Like |

rose54321:I think you need to check your brain before commenting sometimes, The write ups i read up there indicate that his name got him arrested for using his father's name Alhaji Buhari... Now back to your claim of freedom od speech, freedon to air our opinion etc.. If that is the case why is Nairaland banning someone for insulting each other? If you call someone a fool in Nairaland you will be ban why? Also because there's freedom of speech and freedom to air our view does not mean you should start insulting someone, Do you even know the meaning of public assault, Public harassment etc? |

The man could be making a positive expression but which wasn't the case.... if his intention was to pass a message like a dog being a man's best friend and tagged the dog buhari which could be translated to buhari is a man's best friend or a dog can secure your property and was refering to buhari to that effect but not the case here but what exactly was his message...? its a dog not a pig so how exactly is he intending or could ve breached the peace and provoked Muslims? I ask myself sometimes im I nigerian first or Niger deltan ( I ve never been there ) or lagosian the only place I know in nig? If we are nigerians we should be one ppl tribe or culture/tradition based on ethnicity should not suffice . Wierd how ogun state is trying this guy based on their constitution and not Nigeria constition it seem the only control states don't have is resource control. Very contradicting. In a sane environment this man will be a free man but what do I know I can say whatever do whatever towards teresa may as long as I don't threaten her life or physically hurt her right outside number 7 and nothing will happen. The man's lawyer is rubbish |

bonechamberlain:Use your brain for once, So because we should be allow to do what ever we want then i can start to insult you since i have the freedom to do so? won't you report me to Nairaland and ask them to ban me? Since there should be freedom of everything why don't start walking naked along the street. Why can't he write his father's name on the dog instead of someone else father's name? |

omogin: Little wonder people like you get arrested and send to prison. You Because there's freedom of speech you can insult anyone. The troubleshooters had it coming since they don't know where to draw the line. Can someone from the north go to the market in Anambra , write Jonathan on his dog and parade same in the market? You in fact the original wailing zombie cause hatred has hypnotized ur common sense |
Re: Joachim Iroko Remanded In Prison For Naming His Dog Buhari by bkool7(m): 12:19pm On Aug 23, 2016 |
bonechamberlain: It's the imminent violence that may occur if not cubbed that concerns the police. The Police can't dictect an assassin and say they're waiting for him to commit the crime b4 arresting him. Let's not let hatred and the hangover of the last election get in the way of objective reasoning |

MosquitoREBIRTH:I understand ur point but we must not respond out of fear or intimidation, we cannot say because some people are highly violent then they should be treated specially, this was a case that could have easily been settled but with the response of the police, seems they did that out of fear for some persons, which shouldn't be so. 1 Like |

jmoore: Please stop acting like a dummy because I don't think you are one. The article clearly states that Joachim's action is punishable under Section 249 (d) of Criminal Law of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2016. You are now asking me to quote the section of the law Joachim allegedly broke. Well, I have one question for you: Is your father a graduate, and are you one? The answer to this question should reveal to us whether your silly post was done "tongue-in-cheek" If I were to call you an untrained goat, I'd be in violation of NL rules, so I will restrain myself this time, but I caution you to watch your words. |

You can call me whatever names you like, I don't care!!!!!!!!! Yes. I am a graduate who has common sense, unlike zombies that have sold their souls. |
