I'm happy for the friendly. Hopefully, the coaches were able to fine tune the formation well. Looking forward to Sunday's friendly against Slovakia. Another chance to fine tune team cohesion and communication. Results dont matter in games like this.

Overview of the South korea Women Football team

Women’s football in South Korea has made huge progress in recent years, and the national team heads to France with aims of reaching the knockout stage. In 2010, South Korea won the Under-17 World Cup and also reached the semifinals of the Under-20 World Cup.
With many of those players still involved, now with the senior team, this can justifiably be called Korea’s Golden Generation.
The coach, Yoon Deok-yeo, prefers to use a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 formation, but also likes to tinker to have many different variations of those two constellations. The most important player is, of course, Ji So-yun, who has been playing for Chelsea since 2014. Here, quality and experience is a huge help on and off the pitch. South Korea have another outstanding creative attacking midfielder among their ranks, Lee Min-a, although it might be tricky for the coach to have both on the pitch at the same time.
Lee’s stamina and creativity can be very useful for the team, but her inclusion could mean that Ji has to play more defensively as Lee prefers a more attack-minded position.
The midfield anchor is Cho So-hyun, who can do pretty much everything. The West Ham United player has over 100 international caps and is the captain of the team (she also captained them in Canada in 2015). If she is in top form, Korea have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.
If there is one main weakness with this team, it is the defense. Yoon has had his two first-choice goalkeepers out injured for long spells recently and there seems to be at least one high-profile mistake per game from the defenders. Moreover, they always look uncomfortable when they play against physically strong teams.

I think the Superfalcons should be able to overpower the Korean side, they might be fast but the pace of Ordega and Oshoala should be a problem for them also Oparanozie physical style should also trouble them alot......although one of them is probably going to come from the bench

Oshoala On Fire As Falconets Rip Haladas Viktoria Apart

By Iwedi Ojinmah23 mins ago

The Nigeria women's team came from a goal down to claim a 5-1 victory over Haladas Viktoria at the Király Sports Centre in Szombathely.

A brace from Asisat Oshoala plus a strike each from Chiwendu Ihezuo, Francisca Ordega, and Ogonna Chukwudi ensured Thomas Dennerby's side completed the fightback.

The African queens were aiming to step up their Women's World Cup preparations with a morale-boosting win against Hungary's topflight campaigners.

The Hungarians made a fine start to the game in front of their fans as they gained the lead after just seven minutes, capitalising on goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi's accidental slip.

In the 32nd minute, China-based Ordega set up Ihezuo, who eventually finished off brilliantly to level matters for the Super Falcons.

Ordega fired the Africans in front through Ngozi Okobi's corner kick seven minutes after the restart of the encounter.

Substitute Oshoala increased the tally in the 70th minute through Chinaza Uchendu's assist before being set up by Uchenna Kanu for her second of the game two minutes later.

In the 84th minute, substitute Chukwudi got on the scoresheet courtesy of Anam Imo's assist to guarantee the comeback win for the African champions.

After the win, the Super Falcons will face Slovakia in a friendly on Sunday, who they defeated 4-3 at the Cyprus Women's Cup two months ago.

From the line ups yesterday, it looked like the whole team is now understanding the 3-5-2 formation well. I heard the coach changed the whole team in the 2nd half.
Slovakia will be another opportunity to practice the system against a decent, but not hard opposition.

Ngozi Ebere
Jersey no.4
Date of birth: 05.08.1991(27yrs)
Height: 168
Club: Arna Bjornar, Norway
Position: Left Back
World Cup appearance: (2015)

Among close watchers, the former Rivers Angels Left back is regarded as one of the most disciplined defenders in the country.
She is known for her Speed, dribbles, accurate passes, What she does down the left side of defence is a joy to behold. The former Rivers Angels star is fine defender who can take on any defence when she is on the attack and can stop any striker that comes her way. Ngozi put up virtuoso displays for Rivers Angels and the Falcons in 2015 and sealed a move to PSG of France after the world cup. She later moved over to Barcelona FA of Cyprus where she continued her goalscoring form. She currently plays for Arna Bjornar of Norway.

Strengths - Experience, Excellent pullouts, Good freekick specialist, confident on the ball and good in the air

Weakness/es — A one legged player

Chidinma Nkeruka Okeke
Jersey no.20
Date of Birth: 11-08-2000 (18yrs)
Height: 168
Position: Defender
Club: Fc Robo, Nigeria
FIFA World Cup Appearances: ( Debut )

It is not always easy to convert playes from their nature playing positions yet they perform. That is the case with the former Falconet star. Chidinma Okeke started as a striker for FC Robo of Lagos where she formed a formidable partnership with Rasheedat Ajibade. However, at the 2018 U20 women’s world cup, Coach Christopher Danjuma converted her to a defender. Since then, Chidimma has not disappointed anyone in her new position as she tackles fearlessly and with her height, is an advantage to the team when there is a set piece The Fc Robo defender would however be contented watching the matches from the bench as there is no way she can wrest the central defence position from Onome Ebi.

Strengths —Hardworking, agile, Strong, Fast, Very good marker, Can use both feets.

Weaknesses —Need Experience.

Women’s World Cup 2019 team guide No 4: Nigeria

The Super Falcons, with star players such as Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie, have finally been backed by the NFF

Solomon Fowowe

Tue 28 May 2019 13.00 BST

This article is part of the Guardian’s 2019 Women’s World Cup Experts’ Network, a cooperation between some of the best media organisations from the 24 countries who have qualified for France. theguardian.com is running previews from two countries each day in the run-up to the tournament kicking off on 7 June.

Overview

For many, many years the Super Falcons have been a team of disparate parts cobbled together in the shortest time frame possible and expected to perform optimally with very little preparation. To their credit, they have almost always delivered, especially on the continent where they have won nine of 11 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2018 tournament, however, was the clearest indication yet that Nigeria’s dominance in Africa was under threat. Though the Super Falcons eventually won the tournament, they were tested and well-matched by Cameroon and South Africa in the semi-final and the final. Both games ended goalless and Nigeria were taken to penalties before winning both shootouts to win a third successive title.

The continued excellence of the women has contributed towards papering over the cracks. They are seriously underfunded with the men’s – as is the case in so many other countries – a priority. Star players Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie expressed their frustration on social media with the team’s lack of games after winning the Awcon in December 2016. The Super Falcons did not have a game until April 2018, months before the next tournament.

Heading into the Women’s World Cup, the Nigeria Football Federation has got its act together and ensured that the team have had a much better preparation. Bringing in Thomas Dennerby, who won bronze with Sweden at the 2011 World Cup, was a clear indication and then Nigeria featured in the Meizhou Four Nation Tournament, the Cyprus Cup, and had a training camp in Spain, where they played a friendly against Canada before their final preparations in Austria.

The NFF now hopes that the Super Falcons can transfer their continental success to the world stage and at least get out of the group for the first time since 1999.

They have been handed a tough, draw, however, as they ended up in Group A together with hosts France, South Korea and Norway. Dennerby believes having “three or four points” before the final group game against France (Nigeria lost 8-0 to France in a friendly last year) will be crucial.

Dennerby has tried to instil some order in the attack and tried to make the players work together while still trying to maintain the verve and pace of the forward line.

Playing with a 4-5-1 that easily morphs into a 4-4-2 when Rasheedat Ajibade starts, the pace and agility of Barcelona forward Oshoala, strength and poise of Oparanozie, and the creativity of Francisca Ordega are pivotal to the team’s forward play.

The Super Falcons play a fluid attacking system based on quick transitions into the pacy attackers. Despite the inexhaustible Rita Chikwelu plugging several holes in midfield alongside Halimatu Ayinde, there are spaces there for opponents to exploit with the ageless Onome Ebi and the defence needing to keep a high defensive line.

The defence looked strong at the Awcon, conceding just one goal throughout the tournament, but the friendlies before the World Cup revealed a weakness in set-piece situations.

Coach

In search of more than just continental success, Nigeria turned to the Swede Thomas Dennerby in January 2018 after the NFF failed to land the American coach Randy Waldrum. He has had to work quite hard to be accepted because of the fact that he replaced the Super Falcons legend Florence Omagbemi, who had won an Awcon title and made the Fifa Coach of the Year shortlist.

But the former Sweden coach had an impressive CV that probably justified the NFF’s actions. Dennerby has had success with the team, winning the Awcon title and bronze at the maiden WAFU Cup but he now has his work cut out with the aim to excel on the global stage.

Star player

Asisat Oshoala. After winning the Fifa Under-20 Golden Ball and Golden Boot in 2014, “Superzee” has not looked back. She has added three African Women’s Footballer of the Year awards, earned moves to Liverpool and Arsenal and now is on loan at Barcelona after an eyebrow-raising move to China. Oshoala scored seven goals in seven league games for Barcelona and contributed to the Spanish side’s journey to the final of the Champions League.

Did you know?

Rasheedat Ajibade, one of the brightest young stars in the team, is also an accomplished freestyler. She won the first edition of the Nigeria National Freestyle Championship and retained the title in September 2018. Apart from freestyling, Ajibade has also had success as a rollerblader, winning the Lagos state skating championship.

Brief history of women’s football in Nigeria

Women’s football in Nigeria started in the late 1960s when it was played in schools and on the streets in the villages and big cities as the girls joined the boys to play the game.

The formation of the Nigeria Female Football Organising Association in 1978 was another big step forward, though it took another six years before the first national women’s football championship was organised by Princess Bola Jegede and held at the national stadium in Lagos.

The women’s national team began playing games in 1991 in the African Championship. Nigeria won the title beating Ghana in the finals and qualified for the inaugural Women’s World Cup in China.

The Falcons would win seven straight continental championships before finishing third in 2008. After 2008, the fourth place finish in 2012 served as an interregnum in Nigeria’s dominance on the continent. The continental success has so far not transferred to the World Cup with the Nigeria’s women going past the group stage only once.

Which player is going to surprise everyone at the World Cup?

Onome Ebi. The 36-year old, playing in her fifth World Cup, has aged like fine wine with her impressive strength and steely determination. She may have lost a yard of pace but she makes up for it with her supreme game-reading ability and anticipation. The Henan Huishang defender always knows when to step up from the defence to shut down attackers.

What is the realistic aim for Nigeria in France and why?

For a team that has not gone past the group stage since 1999, getting into the last 16 would be a cause for celebration. The Super Falcons are placed in a tough group and they could well fail to go through but if they produce gutsy and impressive performances it would still not count as too great a disappointment.

The writer is not a keen follower of Nigerian female football. I think only Sam Ahmadu has been keenly up to date with womens football. Imagine saying the team plays 4-4-2, something we havent played in a long long time.
I expect that by next week, all these lazy journalists who have been watching the team from afar will start giving lazy opinion on how the team plays. A lot will be surprised that we now play like Burnley, while they expect us to play like Crystal Palace.
I just hope they dont over criticize the ladies.

We have abundance of talent for the next U20. If the NFF is serious, they will appoint Dedevbo because he is very apt in his understanding of football. In fact, I think he should be the next falcons coach.

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/05/29/football/nigeria-super-falcons-thomas-dennerby-asisat-oshoala-womens-world-cup-spt-intl/index.html

Some quotes from the coach on how we will play.
"The feeling is it's going to be hard to score against us,"
"If we can get to the knockout stages this year we will be very happy about that. Maybe we can be a nightmare for our opponents. If they think 'we can beat Nigeria, they're only ranked 39' my opinion, and that's from the heart, we're definitely better than the ranking we have.

I think it's normal as they've had few days intensive training. Training twice a day will raise levels.
Arsenal played 3-5-2 And got exposed badly because the midfield was over run. If you can't hold midfield in a formation like that then dint use it. I'm glad we have Ayinde and Okobi who are hard-working.

Evelyn Nwabuoku
Jersey no.6
Date of birth: 14-11- 1985 (33yrs)
Position: Defensive Midfielder
Height: 167 cm
Club: Rivers Angels, Nigeria.
FIFA World Cup Appearances: (2015)

Evelyn is a leader. She was the captain of the Falcons as they won the 2014 AWCON and also at the world cup. She is a versatile midfielder who can play in defence too. A dynamic, diminutive, and hard-working player, known for her energy and excellent ball-winning abilities as a defensive midfielder, as well as her positional sense, athleticism, intelligence, versatility, and ability to read the game.
Although she is predominantly known for the tactical and defensive aspect of her game, she has the ability to cut out opposing attacks, tackle opponents, and intercept passes – she is also capable of starting offensive plays after regaining possession, courtesy of her simple yet precise and efficient long ball distribution. Her experience and good ball passing skills is an asset to the team. After some time off on an international wilderness from the team, she makes a return under Dennerby and is currently won the WAFU cup with the team. The former Kazygurt, Ostersund and Guingamp midfield stalwart definitely relishes another world cup with the Falcons

Strengths — She's a born Leader, Experience, Excellent ball winning abilities, Efficient long ball distribution, Very good marker.

Weaknesses — Considered slow of recent.

Position: Midfield
Height: 160
Club: Kristianstand DFF, Sweden
FIFA World Cup Apperances: (2007, 2011)

It is very clear that the No10s are the players to watch in any game. They are the driving force for their respective teams. Rita Chikwelu is Falcons motivational player. She will be heavily counted on by coach Thomas Dennerby.
Rita Chikwelu is Primarily an attacking midfielder, although she is also capable of playing on the left, in a holding role, as a deep-lying playmaker , in a box-to-box role , or even as an central midfielder, Rita has been described by her club Kristianstand DFF as a powerful, skillful, and creative" player who has "an eye for goal. She's quick, hard-working and a physically strong player. she excels in the air, and she's also known for her stamina, as well as her powerful and accurate striking ability from distance; she has also drawn praise for her finesse, technique, flair, and dribbling skills, as well as her ability to hold up the ball. Her control of the ball and the way she can swiftly change the play from defence to attack is special." Rita is also an effective free kicks and penalty taker .

Strengths — Strong on the ball, Good passer, Full of energy, good dribbler and experienced

Weaknesses —The pace may no longer be there

Jersey no.2
Date of Birth: 12-12-1992 (26yrs)
Height: 163
Club: Nasarawa Amazon
Position: Midfield
FIFA World Cup Apperance: ( Debut )

Amarachi is a goalscoring midfielder and one of the best women footballers in Nigeria. She was at the U20 world cup in 2010 and has played her way into Dennerby’s heart. She can score from outside the box and that gives the Falcons an advantage in difficult games. She may have the experience but she may be denied enough paying time by coach Thomas Dennerby. But one thing is however certain that she is a player to depend on when the occasion arises.

Strenghths —Experienced midfileder, Good marker, good passes.

Weakness/es —Small in height
