Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, John Obi Mikel has vowed that the team will put in their best when they take on Argentina in the last game of the group in the 2018 World Cup.


Mikel expressed confidence that they will be the third team to stop Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi from scoring at the 2018 World Cup after Iceland and Croatia showed the way.

Mikel told reporters in the mixed zone, ”It is always difficult facing Argentina, this game is a do or die game, it is not like the first game of the group or the second game, this is the last game of the group. We have to die on the pitch.


“It’s obviously very hard to defend against (Messi). Both teams so far have done really well defending him, we have to see what we can do, how we can make sure we defend against him, not just against him but against the whole team.

”We have to play our game as well and make sure we create chances and score goals.”



The Super Eagles held their final training session at their base camp in Essentuki on Sunday morning.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has shared his testimony online.



According to Ikeme, he has been battling blood cancer for a while and only recently went into remission.

Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov has made Egypt’s talismanic striker Mohamed Salah an honorary citizen of the southern Russian region at a farewell banquet held for the eliminated World Cup 2018 side.


Chechnya has been hosting the Egyptian team’s World Cup training camp and Kremlin-backed Kadyrov has seized on opportunities to appear alongside Salah.

“Mohamed Salah is an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic.


“Yes, that’s right! Tonight I signed a decree conferring this high award on the great footballer and member of the Egypt and Liverpool teams,” Kadyrov wrote on Telegram.

Reuters reports that Salah was presented with a badge and a copy of the decree at the dinner on Friday night.

Kadyrov took charge of Chechnya in 2007, backed by Kremlin to impose tight control in the Muslim region where Russia had fought two brutal and costly wars to crush separatists since the collapse of the Soviet Union.


In an interview with the BBC this week, he denied human rights abuses and laughingly rejected the idea he was using the presence of Salah for propaganda.



“We don’t use this kind of thing for politics. Our enemies are paid to write articles like that. I didn’t invite Mohamed Salah or the Egyptian team, they chose us themselves,” he said.

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has finally addressed rumours claiming that he has dropped Onazi Ogenyi, as the vice-captain of the team.


The speculations arose after Onazi allegedly had a fight with captain, John Mikel Obi, just before the start of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Rohr who is yet to use the Trabzonspor midfielder at the tournament, explained that he has one captain and several vice-captains in his squad.


“What I have already said to some of your colleagues (journalists) is that it’s not true. What’s happening is that we have one captain and several vice captains‎.

“There’s one condition to be vice captain. The first condition to be vice captain is to play, if you’re on the bench, the captain is coming out like it happened in our last game and Onazi is not in the game, he can’t be vice captain.



“We have several vice captains. Onazi was not on the pitch. So I cannot say Onazi is the vice captain when he is on the bench. If Ahmed is on the bench, Onazi is on the pitch but Balogun is on the pitch he is the vice captain. We have one captain and committee of players who can be vice captain,” Rohr said.

Oyinye Aguluka was only 24 hours away from becoming a wife when death struck her tragically.

Oyinye was allegedly stabbed to death in bed by her own father at Ndiagu Igboezue in Osikwu village Awgbu, Orumba North local government of Anambra State in the early hours of Friday,The Nation reports.

Sources said her traditional wedding was scheduled for yesterday.

The suspect, Cletus Aguluka, is now in police custody.

He was arrested by members of the community’s vigilance group while trying to flee the village moments after committing the offence.

Giving an account of the incident, mother of the deceased, Georgina, said the suspect returned home late on Thursday looking drunk.

He asked for his torch from his children, none of whom gave him a satisfactory answer about its whereabouts.

The household thought it was all over and everybody went to bed.

“We thought he had forgotten about the torch until he woke up around one o’clock in the night, went inside his room and brought out a machete and stabbed Onyinye who was fast asleep,” Georgina said.

The suspect’s younger brother, Sebastine Aguluka, said Cletus had lately indulged in molesting almost every member of the extended family.

Twin brothers of the deceased, Sochima and Chidera, said they had to leave home that night when they saw the way their father was behaving and they did not want to give him an excuse to molest them.

The state police public relations officer, PPRO, Mr Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the killing yesterday but told reporters that investigation was still in progress.

He said that once the investigation was concluded, the suspect would be charged to court.

The EFCC has arrested two suspected fraudsters who operate from their base in Akungba Ondo state.


The suspects; Augustine Opaso and Balogun Olumide were arrested at the reception hall of Presidential hotel in Port Harcourt Rivers state while waiting to collect more money from the victim they defrauded of a whopping N31million.

The suspects placed on surveillance were nabbed after the victim petitioned the EFCC.

They led EFCC operatives to a shrine where special money making prayers were being offered. Several images and spiritual items were recovered from the shrine.

A Nigerian couple, Ajibola and Adeboye Taiwo who welcomed a set of sextuplets in the United States after 17 years of marriage – are still thanking God for the multiple blessings even after one year. The pictures of the healthy and fresh looking babies were posted on social media to mark one year of their miraculous delivery.


Ajibola Taiwo gave birth to sextuplets last year at a Richmond hospital, three boys and three girls. It was the first time sextuplets were born at VCU Medical Center, according to reports.

The babies were born on May 11 with the help of a 40-person medical team. Ajibola gave birth at roughly 30 weeks and delivered by Caesarean section.

The couple had tried to conceive a child for nearly two decades. They were described as being “overcome with joy when they saw four heartbeats” at their first ultrasound in November.

Nollywood actor Odunlade Adekola who was recently accused of bagging a degree in UNILAG without attending classes like his class mates has denied the accusation.

In a phone chat with Sunday Scoop, the father of 4 said his classmates can testify that he attended lectures just like every other students on campus.

“Being in school was a really thrilling experience for me. I was humbled in the sense that I had to attend classes, do assignments, sit for exams and carry out other academic activities. I had a good relationship with all the lecturers that taught me and the students too.

Pastor Micheal of a Celestial Church of Christ parish in Ilashe, Ogun State, has been disgraced for allegedly abducting and impregnating a 10-year-old girl who went missing in February.

The suspect, from Ondo State, allegedly abducted the girl in February and sexually abused her for months till she became pregnant. .

Michael hid the girl in his house despite a search party launched for her whereabouts by the community leaders, which was known to him.


According to an eyewitness, ‘’Prophet Michael seized the girl in February and kept him in his house and impregnated her. He had somehow hypnotised the girl to the extent that she would hide from her schoolmates whenever they passed through the area where Prophet Michael’s house is located.

The girl was however spotted by her parents on April 29, 2018, while she was sweeping the compound. She told her parents that she was kept in the house by Prophet Michael and she was discovered to be pregnant for him.’’ .


The suspect was subsequently arrested on April 30, stripped naked and openly flogged at king’s palace before being handed over to the police.

Super Eagles defender, Tyronne Ebuehi, has joined Portuguese giants, Benfica, on a five-year contract.

Benfica confirmed on their official website on Saturday May 19 that the 22-year-old Ebuehi joined them on a free contract following the expiration of his contract with Dutch club ADO Den Haag who will receive a training allowance of €250,000 euros for the transfer.

Ebuehi while speaking about his new deal with Benfica said:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal office, on Friday, May 18, 2018, secured the conviction and sentencing of a former Deputy Chief Registrar of the Oyo State High Court, Mutiat Omobola Adio.
Hon. Justice 0. M. Olagunju of the Oyo State High Court sitting in court 6, Ibadan found the convict guilty on count one of the two counts Charge preferred against her.

The count which earns the convict a jail term borders on the allegation of obtaining the sum of N9.2 million by false pretence from one Abiodun Rasheed Olonade, an Ireland based Nigerian.



However, the court dismissed count two bordering on the allegations of stealing the alleged sums on the grounds that she has already been found guilty on a more grievous offence. Adio was convicted and sentenced to 7years Imprisonment on count one without an option of fine. The court also ordered that the convict should restitute the sum of N9.2M she fraudulently obtained back to the complainant.

The convict was earlier arraigned on Friday April 28, 2017 by the prosecuting counsel, Dr. Ben Ubi of the Ibadan Office of the EFCC when she pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her. The fact that earned her the conviction states that she collected the sum of N9.2M from her victim as money realized over the sale of a property located at Plot 10, Block XXIV, Bashorun Estate, Ibadan, but failed to provide the title documents of the property to the buyer. All efforts made by the victim to either recover the money or have possession of the property yielded no result.
The charge reads:

“That you, Mutiat Omobola Adio on or about the 19th of December, 2016, at Ibadan within the Ibadan judicial Division of this Honourable court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of Nine million and Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N9,200,000,00) only from one Alhaji Yekini Olonade through Kunle Abimbola by falsely pretending that it was part payment of the cost price of a building and land situate, lying and being at plot 10, Block XXLV, Bashorun Estate, Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan which you purported to have sold to him”.

Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka yesterday urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-corruption agencies not to spare corrupt leaders.

Soyinka, who made his views known at the opening ceremony of the eighth Commonwealth Regional Conference for Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, said corrupt leaders should get ready to go down in status when justice catches up with them

He said:

“That we have been bled dry in this nation by corrupt leadership and their agencies is nothing to reiterate. It is a given. And I took the trouble yesterday to visit the headquarters of the EFCC. I wanted to see what would be the mode of hospitality of some of our leaders who will surely, sooner or later, pass through the doors of that beautiful building.

“I am not a vengeful person but I think until we ensure that some of our leaders pass through those doors, this struggle against corruption in this country will not be won, will not be over.

“And so, I spoke to Magu and I said I want to see where the presidential wing is. I said as a human rights person, I want to make sure you treat them right when they come here and he said ‘sorry it is an egalitarian institution and I said I would take that message back to them that they should get ready to go down a little bit in status when the time comes and justice catches up with them.”

: “For now, your responsibility I believe is to help us recover the rest of the loot which is still flying all over the continent.”



“We must really try to make sure that all our leaders elected into office do not touch the nation’s coffers. They should move away from being tempted to touch national wealth.

“We should come up with solutions on how we can deal with this problem (corruption) and get back all the money stolen from this country for the well-being of this country and not for the good of those in office.”
