A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolgatanga, has remanded into prison custody a self-styled Evangelist, and four others for accusing and detaining three accused witches in Duusi, a suburb of Tongo in the Talensi district of the Upper East Region of North Ghana.
This comes after four members of the same family were on Wednesday remanded for the lynching of an alleged ‘witch’ at Yenboka Kenna, a town in Pelungu, Ghana .
The five suspects identified as Evangelist Akwesi Ali Baba 29, Douk Sapark 30, Messiah Somlate 25, Mba Gurang 40, Malpayah Mbayin 27 and one Tarabon, currently at large were arrested and subsequently arraigned on Thursday, 15th June 2017.
They accused Bayeta Kiimbey, Ateensage Ziyaaba and Sagteg Yamboreya of witchcraft.

The court held that on 6th June 2017, the Evangelist Akwesi Ali Baba accused the complainants of being ‘witches’ and based on that, the accused persons were attacked and threatened with death by some irate persons led by Tarebon.

The accused persons managed to escape and reported the matter to the chief of Gaare, Naab Yamboreya Gbmere.
The chief Naab Yamboreya, kept the accused persons at his palace for safety for three days, before calling on the police to rescue them.

Following the chief's decision, the four suspects including the one at large unlawfully entered the rooms of the accused persons and destroyed properties in search of supposed witch-pots and other items they believed were used to bewitch people as claimed by the evangelist.

They were later arrested by the police and arraigned.

The state prosecutor, Mr. Gilbert Boateng Addae, prayed the court to remand the suspects into prison custody to enable police complete investigations for their trial.
The presiding judge of the Bolgatanga Magistrate Court, His Worship Osman Abdul-Hakin, granted the request of the prosecutor and remanded the suspects into prison custody.

According to Citi News, they are to appear in court on the 30th of June 2017.

"Boko Haram Bombers Now Pretend To Be Epileptics To Gather Crowd"- Adamawa Govt. Warns

he Adamawa state government has warned Nigerians against the new method employed by members of the Islamist-Jihadist sect, Boko Haram in carrying out their deadly attacks.

The warning comes hot on the heels of recent attacks carried out by the terrorist sect leading to the death of several persons.

The Adamawa State Government in its warning noted that the terrorists now pretend to have epileptic seizures before blowing themselves up.

The state commissioner for information, Ahmad Sajoh, during a press briefing yesterday said: “We are also aware that the terrorists now have another tactics which is that they will come to a place where people are gathered and begin to pretend as if they are epileptics or having severe stomach pain, and once people gather to assist them they will detonate the bomb. So, we are also doing advocacy to tell people not to fall for such tactics.”

He added: “We have had it in the past, the first bomb blast in Yola was engineered like a street fight. Two people were fighting and people gathered to watch the fight and they detonated the bomb. The second one, they went to a tipper garage where labourers were buying food, they declared the food free of charge, paid the woman and started giving people five hundred Naira gift, then people rushed down and gathered and then they detonated the bomb.

“We have now understood and going on advocacy to the parents to tell their children not to collect something from people they don’t know. We also interfaced with all the vice-chancellors, rectors and their heads of security in anticipation that something like this could happen.

“We took several measures but you know somebody who is planning evil may have more ways than you can imagine.”

Politics / Looting Nigeria's Money Is Very Easy - Kemi Adeosun by 360frolic(m): 6:59am On Jun 07, 2017
Nigeria's finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun on Tuesday said that it is very easy to loot the country's treasury but the hardwork lies in discovering and repatriation of looted funds.

Adeosun made the remark while speaking at the second day of a three-day conference on ‘Promoting International Cooperation in Combating Illicit Financial Flows and Enhancing Asset Recovery to Foster Sustainable Development.’

“My experience from the little time I’ve spent as a minister is that it’s far too easy to do these things in Nigeria, and we’ve got to make it much more difficult.”

“A lot has been done about speaking about the problem. We need to move to how to solve the problem. From the Ministry of Finance’s perspective, our view is that prevention is better than cure.

“Recovering money is exciting but it’s difficult. It takes years. We’re still battling to recover money that was looted from Nigeria 20 years ago. So, my perspective as Minister of Finance and as an accountant is: how do we block the money from getting out in the first place? How do we strengthen our controls? How do we create the early warning systems that tell us to flag certain transactions?

“Let’s stop the money going out; let’s stop the loss, and then we can work on recovery.”

Politics / Nigeria Is Living On Borrowed Money, May Collapse Soon- Ex Gov Obi by 360frolic(m): 10:27pm On Jun 06, 2017
Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi has decried the level of hunger and poverty in the country.

According to the ex governor, the country's economy will collapse in no time if nothing is done to arrest the situation.

He also called on youth nationwide to show more concern to creativity to enable them realize their dreams and warned them to stop emulating the Nigerian leaders.

“Our leaders are doing things wrong, we should not follow them to celebrate what is wrong. What we have in Nigeria is that we are celebrating what is wrong. And I am of the opinion that we should stop celebrating what is wrong and start doing things right so that this country can grow.

“People are hungry and we should join hands together to question our leaders to tell us what is happening in this country and making sure that the right thing are done”.

“Our leaders should cut the cost of governance and show more concern to how to improve the standard of living of all Nigerians.

“All of us, from 1960 when we gained independence, if we had done the right thing from then, it is not the question of PDP or APC. We have lived wrongly, we have done the wrong things and that is why the country is not growing.

“If we don’t do anything now the country will collapse. Nigeria is living on a borrowed money. So, you see things are difficult in Nigeria and we need to change our society so that things will get better,” he added.

Agriculture / Why Garri, Semo And Fufu Are Now More Expensive - Farmers' Body by 360frolic(m): 1:44pm On Jun 02, 2017
According to Segun Adewumi, President of the Nigeria Cassava Growers Association, the recent reduction in cassava supply and increased cost of cassava products is due to herdsmen attacks on farms.

“It has been a very difficult time for cassava farmers in Nigeria because of the incessant attacks by herdsmen, who make it difficult for them to go to their farms.

“Farmers are afraid to go and cultivate; some farmers have lost their lives for venturing into the farms.

He said “garri”, flour, “fufu”, starch and semolina had become more costly, because these attacks caused cassava farmers to stop farming in some parts of the country.

Also, insurance firms did not compensate the affected farmers because policies taken by the farmers did not cover malicious damage to farms, he said.

A small paint bucket measure of cassava flakes, otherwise known as ‘Garri’, costs between N900 and N1,100, depending on the location in Lagos metropolis.

A 60kg bag of the commodity costs between N11,000 and N12, 500 at the Mushin Oloosa Market, depending on the quality.
