Civil Engineering calculations are more straight forward but chemical engineering is more complex.
So I'd say chemical engineering is more difficult.
Never underestimate any department in faculty of Engineering.
Before you start quoting me Upandan I have degrees in both.
Never knew this untill I tasted chemical engineering.

This comparison is baseless, as it aims to achieve nothing more than massage or bruise some people's ego.

Mechanical is not even as hard as chemical talk less of civil. The truth is that in civil the calculations are somehow straight forward, u can know wen u arrive at the answer. but chemical, my brother it's too complex. Before anybody quotes me, I have a degree in chemical and mechanical. I will prefer writing mechanical exams compared to chemical. civil na their junior brother.

I don't think you understand what mechanical engineering is... pele......

bros... chemical engineering is dangerous. Our motto in FUTO..... WARHEADS!!!
Dat alone, plus d complex nature will drive u crazy.

U are asked to solve a question..... after solving, u can't differentiate btwn d question and the answer.

Bro, neither Chemical nor Mechanical is as diverse and wide as Civil.
Secondly I beg to differ from what you said, Civil na their eldest brother... It's just a matter of interest

no engineering courses are as hard as agricultural engineering vis it encompasses all aspects of engineering but for this topic civil is harder

Chemical Engineering should be more difficult....However from my experience over the years, course difficulty depends on the school, department, and lecturers taking the course (I mean how deeply the decide to drill the students).
Back then in school Chemical first, mechanical second.

All na dasme. Engineering have same basics in 100 and 200 levels. Changes begin to take place from 300 level. An intelligent student who does well at those levels will also do well at further levels in any engineering discipline. They all have same prerequisites

I am a graduate of Civil Engineering a third class holder, my best friend is a graduate of Chemical Engineering a first class in fact a record breaker at FUT Minna. In Civil Engineering it is hard to have first and 2:1 not because of the hardness but the mentalitty here that it is hard but in Chemical Engineering you can have at times 3 to 4 and they are often the best in Faculty of Engineering alongside Electrical Engineering. Chemical Engineering courses are highly volatile you can easily forget it so there is great need to either cram or memorize on short term base. But Civil Engineering is highly technical, you must know it you must understand it and must not miss details or else you fail. Most of my woes back at school was my bad hand writing. In Civil there are few Professors across Africa, in Chemical Plenty plent. In my own opinion there are no difference between the two, something links the two of us and that is unemployment. Several Civil Engineering And Chemical Engineering graduates are unemployed most end up becoming teachers.

Both
One is more of Chemistry while the other is more of drawing.
Both are mathematic
Both are Physical
Both are nice
Both are etc
AutoCAD etc

Bros, are you an engineering student at all? All engineering students draw till their final year. It's the language of engineering: Drawing and Calculation
Re: Civil Engineering Vs Chemical Engineering by zagadat1: 8:09am On Jul 28, 2017
Civil engineering is not easy at all... and what aspect of civil engineering are you talking about? Is it Structural design or geotechnics and foundation or highway and transport or water? Only civil engineers will understand how complex these are even in terms of calculations or other aspects.

Baseless comparison. I can't fathom why you want to create an unnecessary debate on these fine Engineering courses. You should be thinking of the one that will get you a job after graduation in Nigeria and not to bruise ego.

"Hardness" (H) of a course is not a function (f) of automatic employment in a saturated (s) Labour market.
Re: Civil Engineering Vs Chemical Engineering by Yankiss(m): 8:21am On Jul 28, 2017
Of course Chemical Engineering is tougher. I am talking from experience. I am a Chemical Engr. As student at the university of Lagos, we undertook courses in Civil Engineering up to year three. The reverse wasn't the case. Chemical Engineering had much more number of units to pass to graduate. The work load is unimaginable. The fact of more first class in Chemical Engineering is about volume of entrants. More and more brilliant students take to Chemical Engineering than to Civil. It is easy to understand. It is not rocket science. Again, much has to do with individual flair. What you regard as difficult is to another person, quite easy.

Why the hell is this on fron page? Someone asked an unnecessary question and they put it up here?

Oga, your question is like asking whose meat is softer between a Hen and a Turkey. That's not even a valid question. Same way 4/0 is not valid.

I'm a student of Chem Engr. I took courses in CVE. They are both great courses. I would have advised you if I knew the reason you were asking.
Re: Civil Engineering Vs Chemical Engineering by Olisa116: 8:33am On Jul 28, 2017
Civil is tough shay, just because of the structural analysis. If u are not good with mathematics don't go for it. But is interesting.

Disagree with you that MOST Civil Engineering graduate end up as teachers. The construction industry is extremely large . I have had the privilege to change my job over and over again as a result of offers but decided to stay where I'm coz I enjoy what I do. You can't be a Civil Engineer and sit back. Self development is key. I have done projects single-handedly without having a clash with my present job. Go get experience from where you won't get paid. It has paid off for me and several friends. The built-environment needs to be harnessed.

During my time in uniport, both departments were tough, none had produced a first class in their history.
Haven said that, chemical is definitely more diverse than civil and quiet interesting, and more students enroll in chemical than Civil on the average, so the possibility of attracting the very best is higher in chemical than civil.
The rate at which you may find one more difficult than the other depends on your interest.
but the same uniport for the last 3 years the number of applicants for chemical eng has been below 550 will civil has always been above 1000 I have statistics from jamb to prove this infact that is the reason I applied chemical eng this year

I often hear students complaining about how hard Chemical engineering is but after a little research which I carried out, I noticed more students graduating with first class in Chemical engineering than in Civil engineering. Which do you think is tougher

Choose anyone and read your books. That's all. All have calculations.
