He can only be defeated if all Cercei and Danny stop their fighting and fight together against him but knowing Cercei, that is nut likely going to happen.
But it was just a dump plan going into the cold. They know Cercei and her character, and even if she joins, she's going to back stab Dany, she only cares about her power.
