A human rights activist and an Abuja-based lawyer, Oleka Udenze, has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Also joined in the suit are Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Abayomi Gabriel Olanisakin and the Chief of Army staff, COAS, General Tukur Buratai.

The lawyer is praying the court to determine, “Whether having regards to the provision of sections 1 (1) and (3) of Armed Forces Act, Cap A20, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, the defendants are conferred with the statutory power to deploy soldiers and officers of the Nigeria Army to the streets of the South-East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and lmo, without the approval of the National Assembly other than for purposes related to or connected with its statutorily prescribed powers and functions.

“Whether having regards to the facts, exhibits and depositions in the verifying affidavit hereto attached, the purported military Operation Python Dance and the deployment of soldiers to the South East has any place in our laws.”

The plaintiff filed the case on behalf of himself and the people of the South East and is also praying the court to declare that the 1st defendant acted ultra vires his powers and functions as statutorily conferred on him under the Armed Forces Act,” among other prayers.

“A declaration that the conduct of the defendants was biased and in contravention of the rules of natural justice and constitutional right to freedom from discrimination by deploying soldiers and laying siege to the south-east despite not being in a period of war nor a restive region.

“A declaration that the defendants lack the statutory powers to deploy soldiers to the South-East region and any other place in Nigeria without the consent of the national assembly.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from deploying soldiers to the streets of the south-east for Operation Python Dance 3 or any other operation under any guise and form.”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday condemned the killing of Miss Saifura Hussaini Khorsa, an aid worker, by the Boko Haram terrorists.

Khorsa, who worked for the Red Cross, was kidnapped about six months ago at the Rann camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno by Boko Haram terrorists.

The president in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Monday described the killing of aid worker as heinous and despicable.

The statement read: “The government of Nigeria strongly condemns this reprehensible and inhuman act. No religion permits the killing of the innocent.

“Saifura worked for the Red Cross, a humanitarian organisation tirelessly working to bring succor to all the victims of violence irrespective of the sides of the conflict.

“The President, therefore, appealed to Nigeria’s international partners and everyone with an influence on the terrorists to prevail on them “to stop these acts of extreme barbarism.

“Buhari further assured that his administration would seize “every given opportunity, with both hands and to use all means available to bring home all citizens being held against their will by the Boko Haram terrorists.

“The President, on behalf of his family, the government and people of Nigeria extends condolences to the family of Saifura, the Red Cross and UNICEF over the loss of the “selfless and hardworking mother.’’

Politics2019: Let’s Unite To Defeat Buhari – Kwankwaso To Saraki, Atiku, Others by 3Ebisco(op): 11:30pm On Sep 12, 2018
A presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on party stakeholders to unite in order to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections.

Addressing party supporters at the PDP secretariat in Minna, Niger state on Wednesday, Kwankwaso called APC the common enemy.

“All contestants and other stakeholders should unite in the general interest of our party and country,” he said.

Kwankwaso also urged PDP’s leadership to be fair to all aspirants during its forthcoming primaries, by ensuring level playing field for all.

The former Kano Governor however remained silent on the issue of consensus, but promised to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

Kwankwaso further said he regretted supporting President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 presidential election.

“We sought for change in 2015 and along the line, I realised the change only brought about more killings, hunger, under-development, poverty and unemployment.

“I will not support or remain in that type of change, that is why I am back to the PDP to change the change that has brought untold hardship on Nigerians”, he noted.

PoliticsInsecurity: How 2,300 Persons Were Killed In Zamfara – Yari by 3Ebisco(op): 10:29am On Sep 11, 2018
Abdulaziz Yari, governor of Zamfara, has claimed that insecurity in the state has led to the loss of at least 2,300 lives from 2011 till date.

The Governor said this while speaking at a special Town Hall meeting on security in Gusau, Zamfara capital, on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information; Mansur Dan-Ali, Minister of Defence and Suleiman Adamu, Minister of Water Resources.

Yari said agricultural activities in the state had suffered a major setback because of insecurity and that over 25,000 cattle had been rustled.

“About 2,300 people have died in the state since 2011. Agriculture has suffered setback as a result of this security problem,” he said.

“In Zamfara, we are all Muslims, I don’t expect a Muslim to kill another [Muslim]. We should know that we are dealing with criminals.

“In 2014, we had only 24 soldiers in the whole of Zamfara state.”

The Governor said since he assumed office in 2011, he has been facing security challenges.

“As a governor who has confronted insecurity since the inception of my administration, I have some experience,” he said.

On his part, Mohammed reiterated the spate of killings across the country “have fallen drastically.”

“Let me say straight away that the killings, resulting from farmers-herders clashes, cattle rustling, trans-border crimes and banditry, among others, have fallen drastically,” the minister said.

“Unfortunately, this has not received the kind of media coverage that was given to the killings.

“I appeal to the media to correct this. I have no doubt that the good people of Zamfara can testify to the drastic reduction in the activities of cattle rustlers and other bandits in the state since the federal government assembled a 1000-strong military force, comprising the army, air force, police and the civil defence, to launch fierce attacks on the bandits terrorising the villages and towns of Zamfara state.

“The situation will continue to improve until the violence has stopped.”

Dan-Ali expressed his displeasure at connivance of locals with bandits.

“Most of us are giving information to bandits, please let us change that [narrative] with the security agencies,” the defence minister said.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brig. Gen. Sale Zakari Kazaure, has revealed when corps members’ allowance would be increased.

Kazaure said corps members’ allowance will be increased when the minimum wage of civil servants are increased.

He made the disclosure while refuting rumours of increment in the monthly allowances of serving corps members.

Kazaure spoke at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Delta State while addressing the 2018 batch ‘B’ (stream II) corps members

He said corps members were not “different from civil servants, so whenever the minimum wage of civil servants is increased, increment in corps members’ allowance will automatically be effected.”

The DG assured that the NYSC is in corroboration with all security agencies to guarantee the safety of corps members in their various places of primary assignments.

He called on corps members to stay away from sharp practices and to “maintain neutrality if they are called upon as ad-hoc workers for the 2019 general elections.”

Kazaure cautioned them to avoid being involved in “yahoo business, 419, night parties and not to be deceived by politicians as 2019 elections are coming closer.

“Any where you find yourselves, be neutral. Also be good ambassadors and be patriotic to your country. Anyone found wanting will be dealt with.”

Jubilant market women in Enugu State on Friday converged on the Government House, Enugu to express their firm support for the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in 2019 for entrenching peace and good governance in the state, and assisting traders in the state grow their businesses.

The traders, who described Gov. Ugwuanyi as “the most trader-friendly governor”, disclosed that “we have never had it so good like this since the inception of civilian regime in 1999”.

The women added that Gov. Ugwuanyi was the only governor of the state, who came on board and remembered the welfare of the traders, stressing that they are supporting his re-election because he cares for them and the masses.

Presenting their stance, the state’s Market Woman Leader, Hon. Esther Edeh, appreciated the governor for the Enugu State Traders Empowerment Scheme his administration launched in 2017 to assist genuine traders who win the monthly open raffle draw of N50,000 each to grow their various businesses, irrespective of state of origin, religion or ethnicity.

She noted the women have benefited immensely from the empowerment programme, expressing delight with the governor’s passion for the wellbeing of the traders, saying: “Every day what he is thinking is what he can do for market traders in Enugu State”.

The excited market women, comprising representatives of all the markets in the state, therefore, unanimously endorsed Gov. Ugwuanyi for a second term in office, declaring that “the only thing we can give him is our vote – our united vote goes to you, Gburugburu”.

Hon. Edeh maintained that the market women in Enugu State have resolved to work for Gov. Ugwuanyi’s re-election in 2019 because he is “our messiah, a God-sent leader, the only and true governor, who knows where it pinches the traders and the poor masses”.

Her words: “Daddy, the reason why we are here is to thank you and also tell you that whatever you want in Enugu State as it concerns traders, we will give it to you double. We have come to say to you that this Lion Building there is no vacancy, come 2019.

“We have to establish that God loves women more than anything he created on Earth. He said that anything we ask of him that He will do it. Others have been praying and endorsing you, but we are women who have gone through nine months of pregnancy and given birth. What we have come here to say today is that God said that we should go and say it and so shall it be in Jesus Name, Amen.

“You don’t have problem. You are not dragging the governorship election with anybody come 2019. We say that it is well with you”.

Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi thanked the women for their support, solidarity and prayers, assuring them of his resolve to continue to serve the people of the state with the fear of God and to improve their living standard.

PoliticsNigerians More Divided Under APC Govt, You Can’t Give What You Don’t Have – Sara by 3Ebisco(op): 6:15pm On Sep 06, 2018
The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has said that Nigeria is more divided under the present administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari who, according to him, cannot give what he (Buhari) does not have.

Saraki made this known while addressing the Governor of Ebonyi state, Chief David Umahi and stakeholders of the state during his consultations for next year’s presidential election, which took place at the Dr. Sam Egwu lodge in Abakaliki.

He said that Nigeria was presently at crossroads, stressing that he will address the growing impunity in Nigeria if giving the chance to become the PDP presidential flag bearer in the forthcoming 2019 general election.

The Senate President stated that Nigeria has never been so divided like it is now and lamented that the unity the nation’s founding fathers propagated was at the verge of collapse, while the country is drifting into anarchy.

“As you endorse your governor, you will also endorse me as your presidential candidate. It is a trying time for our nation. The country is more divided than it used to be.

“We know about the insecurity situation. We must ask our self how did we get here and who can bring us out? You cannot give what you don’t have. We must create enabling environment for leadership capacity.

“There is a high level of un-inclusiveness in the country. We must choose leaders that have capacity to move the country forward. What you are seeing in Ebonyi is not by chance, it is because your governor has capacity, that is why you are witnessing development. How then can you choose a man with capacity in your state without choosing also a leader with capacity at the national level?

“We fight poverty, we will fight corruption too and not to do a selective corruption fight. We will develop solid minerals in Ebonyi State. We will bring private investors into the country and turn around youth involvement in governance by bringing youths to governance,” he said.

In a remark, the governor, Chief David Umahi, who was presented with the governorship nomination form purchased by the members of the State Executive Council described Senator Saraki as a refined Nigerian and defender of democracy as well as friend of Ebonyi State.

Umahi reiterated his earlier promise to return power to Abakaliki bloc in 2023 after his second term, adding that his administration remains focused on the developmental agenda.

“We will handover a state that is most beautiful, best economy and richest in the country,” he assured.

The Governor commended Saraki for standing firm over the various crisis he faced, and urged that the National Assembly must work together to unite the country and turn its fortunes for the best.

He called on the Senate President to look into cost of projects in the country to stop profligacy in the execution of projects in the country.

Umahi added that the South-East zone will be ready to support anybody who will be ready to recognize the rights and needs of the people of the zone.

PoliticsBoko Haram In Trouble As Donors Pledge $2.52b To Fight Sect by 3Ebisco(op): 3:16am On Sep 04, 2018
Boko Haram insurgents. Their days are numbered with this huge fund.

The international donor conference on Boko Haram holding in Berlin on Monday pledged $2.52 billion to help countries in the Lake Chad Basin to fight Boko Haram.

The German foreign ministry said the aid would be disbursed “in the coming years” to Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon, where the jihadist group launches frequent suicide bomb attacks from its bases in Lake Chad.

The conference, holding on Monday and Tuesday and being attended by more than 70 states, international organisations and non-governmental organisations, raised $672 million in 2017.

Mark Lowcock, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator and Head, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, thanked donors for their generous donations.

Lowcock said: “Your contribution at the Lake Chad Berlin conference will help us deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance throughout the Lake Chad Basin. This support is crucial to ensuring that life-saving assistance reaches all those in need”.

The conference, which focused on humanitarian assistance, civilian protection, crisis prevention and stabilisation for the region, had sought to raise $1.56 billion while Lowcock had projected more than one billion dollars.

However, the donations and pledges by countries monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) were as follows: Germany, the host country – 265 million Euros; and Norway – $125 million.

The others were U.S. – $420 million; Switzerland – $20 million; France – 131 million Euros; Belgium – 45 million Euros; Finland – 2.3 million Euros; and Denmark – $72.5 million.

UK also donated £146 million; Canada – CAD $68 million; the European Union – 231.5 million Euros; Luxembourg – 40 million Euros; and Spain – 3.2 million Euro.

Lowcock said that a famine was averted in the region last year due largely to international aid, but added that millions of people in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon were still in dire need of help.

The UN humanitarian chief, however, cautioned: “The crisis is not over. There are still 10 million people who need life-saving assistance.

“A quarter of the people we are trying to reach are displaced from their homes and the only means of staying alive they have is what is provided by humanitarian organisations.”

Achim Steiner, head of the UN Development Programme, warned that more people could flee the region unless the international community took action to help them for the long-term.

Ahead of the 2018 conference, about 10 non-governmental organisations active in the Lake Chad region had said 11 million people were in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

“The insurgency as well as military operations across the four countries have displaced 2.4 million people and left five million people food insecure while significantly reducing economic activity,” a statement signed by the NGOs said.

The conference will focus on humanitarian assistance, civilian protection, crisis prevention and stabilisation of the region, as well as seek to raise funds for humanitarian requirements totalling $1.56 billion.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Tijjani Bande, shortly before the conference, had appealed to all stakeholders to redouble their commitments to the Lake Chad Basin crisis.

Bande said: “The Berlin Conference on the Lake Chad has been slated for the first week of September 2018 and would build substantially on the outcome of the February 2017 Oslo Donors Conference on the Lake Chad.

“I would like to take this opportunity to call on all stakeholders to redouble efforts and commitment towards making the coming Berlin Conference on the Lake Chad of Sept. 3 to 4, 2018, a watershed.

“This is in our collective resolve to further mobilise resources and demonstrate implicit commitment to plans that will ensure moving quickly beyond the immediate humanitarian needs.

“This is to concrete sustainable developmental projects capable of substantially elevating the lives of the majority of people in the region”.

PoliticsLeah’s Release Is Key To 2019 Presidential Election —christian Leaders by 3Ebisco(op): 7:37am On Sep 02, 2018
LEAH Sharibu has become a metaphor in the frightening state of security in the country, write BIOLA AZEEZ, MICHAEL OVAT, ABIODUN JIMOH following the circumstances and continued captivity of the abducted schoolgirl by Boko Haram members.

I can confirm to you that the voice that spoke is that of my daughter Leah. It is her voice no doubt. I am happy that I can hear my daughter speak. This has given me hope that she is alive. I am also happy to see her recent picture displayed.

“My request is the same with my daughter. The government should play their part now by intensifying efforts to secure her freedom,” Nathan Shaibu said.

That is part of the latest expression of agony and trauma by a parent, who, in this instance, is the father of Leah. More than six months, beginning from February 18, 2018, Nathan Sharibu and his wife, Rebecca were inflicted physical and psychological torture by Boko Haram insurgents holding her in captivity. The terrorists abducted Leah and 110 other female students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State.

Sharibu remains in the dungeon of virulent Boko Haram members for refusing to renounce her religious inclination and to most concerbed citizens, her story is akin to the poetic phrase; so long, too long!

Nigerians and indeed, other men and women of conscience, share in the agony of the family, pleading with her abductors to set her free. They have consistently sent passionate messages to the authorities in Nigeria to ensure a quick action to enable her savour the air of freedom as her colleagues did long ago. And in a spontaneous reaction to latest outcry by the girl, the government the said it could not give the exact time and date she could regain freedom, saying only providence could tell. Nonetheless, the presidency said the authorities were unrelenting to ensure she breathed the air of freedom.

Of course, the voice of the 15-year-old in the 35-second online audio, which trended on the social media platform last Monday, was emotive and sombre: “I am Leah Sharibu, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get me out of my current situation. I also plead that the members of the public help my mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out of my predicament. I am begging you to treat me with compassion, I am calling on the government, particularly, the president to pity me and get me out of this serious situation. Thank you.”

Tribunechurch engaged some clerics on the horrifying experience the teenager was going through, as well as the real and imagined moves by the authorities to secure her freedom. For Rev Dr Felix Omobude, national president, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), the international community must sustain pressure on the authorities to ensure her release given their uncompromising stance on fundamental human rights and democratic process. He said the Federal government must act swiftly on the Dapchi schoolgirl predicament.

Buhari leaves for China Friday

He said: “ The Federal government should act fast now; it should do the needful and spare no efforts in securing the release of Leah, who has been held hostage for the past seven months. The PFN is considerably worried why it is taking the government such a long time to secure the release of Leah Sharibu from the Boko Haram enclave. The PFN, therefore, calls on the President Muhammadu Buhari -led Federal government to do the needful to reduce the tension her continuous detention against her will, is generating among the Christians in Nigeria and their well-wishers. All those, including the international community who cherish freedom and democratic process should combine efforts to ensure that Leah is released from Boko Haram captivity without further delay.

“The PFN is also calling on all Christians and Nigerians of goodwill to continue to pray for Leah’s safe return and re-union with her family. Miss Leah Sharibu is the Christian girl, who was kidnapped alongside 118 students of Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe State. All the other captured girls were subsequently released, but Leah was held back for her refusal to renounce her Christian faith.”

A similar demand was made by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Dioceses, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor. According to him, President Buhari must facilitate the release of Leah before the 2019 general election. It would be recalled that the insurgents released 104 of the abducted girls to their families and school authorities on March 21, 2018 after they had spent one month and two days with the ungodly group. Ezeokafor said chances of the president will be bright in next February election if he is able to facilitate the release of Leah from Boko Haram captivity.

The Anglican Bishop of Awka Dioceses, Bishop Alexander Ibezim, who also spoke on the travail of Leah, said the continued detention of the helpless girl by Boko Haram showed an alleged plan to turn Nigeria to an islamic nation. Ibezim, said that Christians were saddened by the traumatic experience the girl was undergoing in the hands of the faceless attackers.

According him, Christians are proud of the faith of Leah, who has dared Boko Haram terrorists. He said no amount of accolades would suffice to congratulate the girl and her parents who nurtured her to be that strong as Christian in her faith as to demonstrate such courage.

The Bishop called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), PFN, and other Christian bodies all over the World to embark on 21 days’ fasting and prayers and other necessary action that could lead to Leah’s freedom. He appealed to the international community to assist the Federal Government of Nigeria to secure the release of Leah Sharibu from her captors. He urged the government at all levels, to protect the lives and properties of the citizens as the 2019 elections approach

Pastor Biodun Oyeleye, Dominion Life Bible Church, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.

For me, the Christian bodies are doing what they should do concerning her case. They have organised protests; they fasted and prayed, and many are still doing these spiritual activities for her cause. However, I urge the Christian bodies not to relent in their activities; as the Bible says ‘let’s pray until our joy over her case is full. I recommend a series of protests, both nationally and internationally. As for the government, even if they are doing anything, nobody is being made to know. Nigerians must by now be tired of assurances that produce no result. The Federal Government has a duty and responsibility to ensure the safe return of the girl, not just because she is the only Christian but because she is a Nigerian and deserves the best service this nation can give her. Who knows she might be a First Lady tomorrow, or a source of glory to this nation one way or the other.

PoliticsEmery Demands More From Ozil by 3Ebisco(op): 6:57am On Sep 01, 2018
"I like the possibility to have the player play different positions on the pitch and then it depends each match for us and for the opposition," Emery said. "For that, Mesut played with me on the right wing and also as No.10, and we are going to continue to do that.

"Mesut in his career, he played as a 10 and on the right — when he was playing at Real Madrid, I remember a lot of matches on the right.

"His quality is for playing between the lines. But I spoke with him for his best position on the pitch and I know he can play right and as a 10. And he wants that I can use him for two positions.

"Every player in the squad plays in the position we need. Our demands are very high, very great, but I want to ask every player every day to give us more — not just Mesut, the team, the squad. We need to push, we need to have ambition, we need to have desire to improve every day.

"This is my message for the team, for the squad and for every player."

PoliticsThoughts On A Tambuwal Presidency, By Okey Ikechukwu by 3Ebisco(op): 8:33am On Aug 31, 2018
Prince Kasim Afegbua’s intervention on this page last week threw up some interesting aspects of the unfolding drama around the 2019 presidency, especially as it concerns the Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. The governor’s ambition is said to be a major headache to the ruling party at the federal level and in most states of the federation, All Progressives Congress, from which he switched to the Peoples Democratic Party a few weeks ago. But that is not the only headache the ruling party should worry about. Is it? The party lacks internal cohesion. It also has a man yet to be schooled in political party management and administration as its Chairman. In addition, the Federal Government it has put in place has performed abysmally on all fronts and is trying to build “a dictatorial democratic culture” by its contempt for national character and its desire to trample on both the legislature and the judiciary.

We say nothing about the Presidency’s reputation for incestuous nepotism and its determination to keep using lies as the main raw materials for keeping itself in office and moving the nation forward. But these are matters for another day.

For now, let us note, as Afegbua said, that it is difficult to take seriously the recent pronouncements of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who, on the heels of Tambuwal’s switch of political platform, made some fantastic claims about the latter’s motives for leaving the ruling APC. A Tinubu who said of Tambuwal a few years ago: “Your sacrifice for a greater … Nigeria will go down in history as one of the greatest pragmatic and progressive political sacrifices ever made in the politics of our country,” cannot be taken seriously in his more recent (contradictory) pronouncements on the same person. Besides, it is not the norm anywhere for the unilateral statements of an interested party who is losing both grounds and face on an issue to be taken as a valid and incontestable point of view on the matter in question.

Afegbua’s clear support for a 2019 Tambuwal presidency was further accentuated by Jasper Uche in his “Tambuwals 2019 Project, APC’s,” which appeared in Thisday Newspapers of last Saturday. According to Uche: “The meteoric rise of governor Aminau Waziri Tambuwal in the nation’s political firmament defies logical precision.” Really? I have another perspective. This perspective is even also borne out by Uche’s further comments in the body of his article. Since his narrative links Tambuwal’s “meteoric rise” to the latter’s character, leadership qualities, commitment to higher national goals and fearless focus on sustainable democratic values, it is only natural that such a person should rise. Hear Uche`s comment on Tambuwal as Speaker: “…throughout his tenure the independence of the legislature as a critical livewire for democratic consolidation was not compromised.” So I submit that the rise, rather than defying logic, is actually the logical result of the qualities and circumstances described by the writer.

Perhaps more important than all of the foregoing is the fact that Nigeria can only survive as a nation today by embracing 21st Century leadership paradigms and facing the direction the rest of the world is facing in terms of development. It should be noted, in this regard, that persons with great capacity for consensus building are to be preferred to those with imperial disposition and reflexes. When an imperial temperament is combined with ignorance and ineptitude, as it is combined in the current Presidency, there is no alternative to moving such a stumbling block to progress out of the way.

The areas to focus for a Nigerian president in 2019 are human capital development, the economy and national cohesion. On the last point, the nation is so divided today that only people who are disposed to justice and “live and let live”, and who also have wide networks across religious, ethnic, political and generational lines, can make any meaningful impact. The current President and his clan of relations and other incompetent associates do not fit the billing in any. If anything, they are a reference on what Nigerians must do everything possible to eliminate, going forward.

Concerning Tambuwal’s history, profile and political trajectory, perhaps the first question to ask here is: How could a man who left the ANPP become the Deputy Minority Leader in his new party, just like that? The stakeholders must have found something in him to warrant such elevation. He became Speaker by what some power brokers who were crushed by his “cross-national” coalition called a “frightening, resolute and unprecedented consensus” of elected representatives from all over the country. Interestingly, the decision to make him Speaker was even taken at the end of the precious House thus: In the event that we return here after the elections, we shall not have the executive choose a leader for this independent arm of government; and it is Hon. Tambuwal who shall be elected our Speaker.

What did his colleagues see in him? Certainly not money because, metaphorically speaking, those who were against him at the time had the national treasury in their breast pocket. The bulwark of opposition against him collapsed before a simple consensus of Nigeria`s elected representatives, based on their conviction that Tambuwal was the right man for the office of Speaker; and that he was their choice. Party lines were cheerfully ignored by the lawmakers. Threats of political reprisals were dismissed. And a Speaker, chosen by the House, emerged in the presence of some of the most powerful godfathers Nigeria had ever produced. Yes: They came and sat in on the proceedings of the House of Representatives in order to intimidate the lawmakers into going back on their choice and resolve. It did not work.

Having emerged Speaker and, so to say, chewed his antagonists like crackers, Tambuwal had no airs of a conqueror. His shoulders did not acquire a new “lift”, to show that he was now the new kid on the block who took the existing power brokers to the undertaker, no! He simply went ahead to further democratize House Committer leadership and membership, ensuring that his colleagues worked together as lawmakers for the Nigerian people and the Nigerian state, rather than as members of different political parties who would spend their energies fighting one another. Look at his record as Speaker, especially with regard to inclusiveness, solidarity of Members as one strong arm put in place to defend democracy and public good. His tenure as Speaker portrayed him as broad minded, cosmopolitan in outlook and also as someone who is far more interested in achieving results that would benefit everyone.

Tambuwal’s recent reaction to the burgeoning insecurity in the land, wherein he called on President Buhari to review Nigeria’s security architecture, also says more than is apparent to the casual observer. His comments were based on a deep feeling of dismay at the waste of human life and the destruction of local economies through massacres and sundry acts of banditry allover the country. Curiously, he became governor at a time that Sokoto State was a haven for robbers and disoriented youths. The first thing he did was to do both capacity and human resource mapping of the state, to determine areas with very high incidents of crime and criminality. Then he disaggregated the findings and was able to confirm the types of crime that were dominant in specific parts of the state. Then he abolished the slush funds put in place by his predecessor, from state coffers, from which thugs were serviced and also bailed from time to time, whenever they were arrested by the police.
This was followed by capacity building and economic empowerment schemes that took care of the livelihood of the youths and the resultant security situation in the state. Finally, miscreants arrested for any reason were taken to their village heads for surety and documentation, with the latter required to vouch for the subsequent good behaviour of the affected youth. As many Village Heads refused to stand surety, and began to ask both the youths and their parents to take responsibility, crime began to decline in the state. This is what ended the dreadful banditry of restive youths Tambuwal inherited when he was sworn is as Governor of Sokoto State.

Tambuwal had argued in his comments on national security that no nation can live with frequent killings, insecurity and death and succeed in bringing forth new generations of sensitive, morally upright and psychically balanced youths and leaders of tomorrow. His submission that no nation should tolerate “avoidable loss of life”, as such a nation would be “actually divesting itself of the human resources needed for national development” is instructive in more ways than one. It is from a man’s reaction to events that you can draw far reaching conclusion about what really drives him and what values he holds sacred. He called for an end to the massacre because he wanted to see Nigeria develop and use its massive human capital to take its rightful place in the comity of 21st nations, and with the right leadership paradigms. By refusing to keep quiet at a time of great national crisis, he stood up to be counted. He objected to the fact that state governors have no direct or indirect control over the police and other security personnel in in the states where they are presumed to be Chief Security Officers; calling for a re-examination of even the very concept of national security itself and way it is currently managed in the country.

As for his switch of political platform, every human being has the right and also the duty to upgrade his insights in the course of his life and experiences. This is usually the result of new knowledge, new realizations about old assumptions, changes in the circumstances that led to the earlier decisions and new realities occasioned by unforeseen eventualities. Look at the political and personal history of many outstanding leaders who had to traverse various terrains and platforms, as they struggled for clarity in their desire for the ideal platform to deliver public good.

Celebrities4 Things Davido Must Do In NYSC Camp As A Corper (no 2 Will Be Hard) by 3Ebisco(op): 8:33pm On Aug 30, 2018
Incase you don’t know, DMW boss, Davido has finally turned up for NYSC after 3 years of graduation. He is currently in Lagos NYSC camp for 3 weeks orientation exercise to kick-start his journey to serving his fatherland.

The singer took to his Instagram account earlier this week to share a photo of himself rocking NYSC kits, those kits are designers though.

As the latest celebrity, Otondo and a blown white foul , below are things Davido will have to do in NYSC Camp irrespective of the fact that he is a celebrity.
1. Early Morning And Evening Parade

At NYSC camp, it is a must that everyone no matter where you come from participate in match pass on parade ground. Soldiers storm corpers lodge in camp by 4am to wake everyone up for the parade.

OBO too will have no choice than to wake up 4am, run to the parade ground and do match pass. Pree Pree Shan!! That thing can tiring tho.

2. Man O War Drills

Yes! Davido will have to work with the MAN O WAR officers in camp for lots of intensive drilling. The Man O War drills are meant to train corpers in the art of self defence, leadership and challenges escape.

The drill include, climbing of rope, jumping fence, crawling under tunnel and lots more. Of course, Davido won’t be left out in all these activities and hopefully we think his belly might reduce this time.

3. Balling In Maami Market

No doubt, Davido likes to ball proper, hangout and chill out. He won’t be denied this at NYSC camp, just that he won’t have access to Quilox, Club 57 and other exotic hangout spots as usual for 3 weeks.

Mami Market is the only place to hangout in camp and of course Davido will have to hangout there with his fans and loyal soldiers in camp.

4. Bonfire Night

After all the drills and stress, corp members are meant to have fun and celebrate during the Bonfire Night.

This night, many music artistes will perform and of course, we expect another 30 Billion concert in camp as corp members will be eager to see Davido perform his hit songs live on stage.

That Davido will participate in all the activities in NYSC camp as a celebrity and OBO is not sure.

In your own opinion
Do You Think Davido Will Really Be Involved In All Of The Above Camp Activities?
Which Of The Camp Activities Will Davido Be More Active?

Let’s have your thoughts

Celebrities‘why I Stopped Being A Feminist’ – Billionaires Daughter, DJ Cuppy by 3Ebisco(op): 12:08pm On Aug 30, 2018
Florence Otedola, a Nigerian Disc Jockey, professionally known as DJ Cuppy, has refused to pitch her tent with feminists, stating that “she does not really understand it”.

The daughter of the oil magnate, Femi Otedola, revealed this in a recent interview with City FM.

In the interview, she said: “I used to consider myself a feminist until I realized that I did not really understand it. I don’t like people who are hypocrites. People are out there speaking about women rights, but behind closed doors are doing crazy things.

“I will never come out as a feminist because I am in a male-dominated industry, so I have a certain scenario. I deal with men on a daily basis and I realise that they will always think that they are better than women. I don’t think it is going to solve it.

“But you must also limit the amount of attention you give them because let’s be honest, the more energy you put into one thing, the less time you can into another.

“If I literally sat down all day and spoke about how hard it is being a woman, I won’t have time to sit here talking with you, because I will be somewhere in Alade market talking about how women need better rights.”

Politics2019: APC Will Win South East, Says Presidential Aide by 3Ebisco(op): 1:36pm On Aug 28, 2018
The Special Adviser to the President on Justice Reform Sector, Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, says the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) will win majority of votes in the South-East in 2019.

Ibekaku-Nwagwu disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu.

She said that her confidence hinged on the excellent performance of the APC-led administration in fixing hitherto abandoned infrastructure in the South East.

The presidential aide said that the zone had not had it so good in terms of infrastructural upgrade since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

She said that it was only logical for the region to repay President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC with bloc vote.

“The APC will win election in most of the South-East states or at least secure a minimum of 25 per cent of total vote cast in appreciation for this love.

“President Buhari has demonstrated his love for our people through the over 69 roads and bridges projects currently ongoing in the zone,” she said.

Ibekaku-Nwagwu described the gesture as a clear departure from the style of the previous regime that awarded most of these roads but never funded them.

“The president in his wisdom and frankness continued with the road contracts to avoid abandoned projects.

“He also awarded new ones and released funds to ensure work in progress.

“Work may not be very fast on site because of the economic crunch the administration is battling but is certainly in progress,” she said.

The special adviser said that the president had proven critics wrong adding that Igbos was indeed very grateful to him.

“We will reciprocate this gesture in 2019 by casting our vote massively for him.

“Political heavy weights are already joining the APC across the zone,” Ibekaku-Nwagwu said.

CelebritiesTongues Wag Over Davido’s Girl, Chioma Grammatical Deficiency by 3Ebisco(op): 2:07pm On Aug 27, 2018
There’s a saying that the constant reoccurrence of a poor habit cannot be termed a mistake but can be interpreted as one’s reality. That’s Chioma Avril Roland, Davido’s girlfriend’s present predicament.

Chioma, who’s currently enjoying the booming popularity bestowed on her as a result of the love “wantintin” drama with the stupendously rich silverspoon musician, David Adeleke a.k.a Davido has been under serious scrutiny for her various grammatical blunder on social media.

It won’t be against the rules to start questioning the self acclaimed chef’s educational profile. Strange and discerning how someone who claims she abandoned school at 300 level at Babcock University just to pursue her love life with the singer has been constantly “shooting gun” (please pardon the popular Nigeria slang for blunders) in public.

Initially when her lover boy, the producer cum singer, Davido made mockery of her for saying “I slepted off” the other day, one would have thought it was just one of those mistakes but apparently it is part and parcel of her. The OBO crooner’s girl’s English deficiency is no longer one that can be ignored as it has become quite frequent.

While celebrating her first trip on her boyfriend’s newly acquired private jet on instagram, she wrote

“First trip with my babies jet. Cotonou. Touchdown”, please how many babies is she talking about.

In another post she wrote “it’s Monday D.M for advertise you business. God bless our businesses” instead of Its Monday, DM to advertise your business.

Then this is another one, “Pencil in the hand of the creator…. He did created me well” she captioned another post. Lolz. Chef Chioma, the correct grammar is, He did create me well.

With this, it’s really a wonder how the love struck girl actually gained admission into Babcock University (a supposedly thorough missionary institution owned by the Seventh Day Adventist) where she claimed to be studying Economics since 2012 and yet to graduate.

Can someone who knows Chioma please talk her into going back to school because she clearly needs it since she is now a public figure and will need to address a crowd someday, everything is not about beauty, education is very vital in anything she’s willing to do. @Enquirermag

PoliticsWhat Buhari Told Nigerian Lawyers In Abuja by 3Ebisco(op): 9:50pm On Aug 26, 2018
President Muhamadu Buhari has urged Nigerian lawyers to work for national cohesion and unity.

He said this on Sunday in his address at the 2018 Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja.

Buhari expressed hope that the conference would consolidate the position of the NBA as a prime stakeholder in the national affairs.

Excerpts of his speech below:

“As you will recall, this administration’s emergence marked the first successful civilian transition in Nigeria’s democratic history, following the outcome of the 2015 General Elections.

“Given the enormity of the challenges we inherited and the yearnings of a citizenry earnestly desirous of a new way of running national affairs, our first challenge was to transform our country speedily into a society where impunity in the management of national resources would be replaced with a culture of accountability and transparency. We needed to deploy our resources to address our common needs rather than the greed of a callous few.

“In order to achieve this, we have had to disrupt age-old assumptions and unsettle ancient norms in the management of our national patrimony, as you have all witnessed in the last three years.

“While we have made appreciable progress in several sectors, including public awareness of the need to challenge the corrupt and the brazen in our midst, we have also learnt useful lessons on the dynamism of our society. However, elements within every society, including some lawyers, can equally become unduly resistant to change, even where it is proven that such change is to serve the interest of the larger society. At worst, corruption fights back.

“As we gradually move into another season of intense political activities preparatory to the 2019 General Elections, I enjoin you to remember that by reason of your profession, you all have a responsibility to work for national cohesion and unity through your speeches and public positions and most importantly in your advocacy in court.

“In the context of opinions and narratives about our past and present political and socio-economic experience, you cannot afford to jettison rational and proper analysis of issues in a manner which builds, rather than destroys the nation. I also urge you to work to uphold and improve the sanctity and integrity of our judicial and electoral institutions which play a fundamental role in the sustenance and growth of our democracy.

“Through fiscal discipline, good housekeeping, we navigated the difficult days of economic transformation at the beginning of this Government in 2015 and have now come to improving economic indices, including the consistent increase in our foreign reserves; thirteen straight months of decreasing inflation; the expansion of social safety nets programmes as well as the blockages of historical drain pipes in our national treasury, all within the context of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.

“It is equally significant to emphasize that our willingness to hold persons accountable for offences against society, through the judicial process, will equally transform the future of public service in Nigeria in a positive manner.

“I believe that lawyers can contribute to another core objective of enhancing our business environment and promoting social justice by promoting respect for the Rule of Law; contributing to the law reform process and putting national interest and professional ethics above self in the conduct of their business.

“Rule of Law must be subject to the supremacy of the nation’s security and national interest. Our apex court has had cause to adopt a position on this issue in this regard and it is now a matter of judicial recognition that; where national security and public interest are threatened or there is a likelihood of their being threatened, the individual rights of those allegedly responsible must take second place, in favour of the greater good of society.

“I trust that this Conference will achieve tremendous success and I urge you all to participate actively in its various intellectual and social activities in order to build new bonds and strengthen old relationships. I congratulate the incoming National Executive of the NBA led by Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN, and wish them a successful tenure in the task of advancing legal practice in Nigeria.”
