Big Brother Naija star, Tobi Bakre, in a new interview insisted that he didn’t unfollow his fellow housemate Alex; but that he was blocked. “I didn’t unfollow anybody; I was blocked and then she followed me back. I have never unfollowed anybody on my social media accounts before, I was blocked and then she followed me back,” he insisted. The reality show star who also addressed rumours of buying Instagram followers, also disclosed his plans of becoming an actor. According to Tobi, he was already into acting but chose not to talk much about the project. “I am already into acting, but I cannot talk about my projects yet,” he simply told Saturday Beats “No, I don’t buy Instagram likes and followers and I will never do that. I don’t want to comment much on that. I had about 25,000 before the Big Brother show and after BBA, I currently have about 867,000,” he said. Mr. Akinlayo Kolawole is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State. In this interview, he spoke on the ongoing Election Petition in the tribunal and his House of Representatives ambition in 2019. SEYI TAIWO-OGUNTUASE brings the excerpts: How do you intend to get the party’s ticket considering the contending forces that may be interested in the same seat? Though, I have been an active member of the party, though I have been underground. I came fully into APC January, 2018. Shortly after, I unveiled my intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat of Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, comprising Ido/Osi, Moba and Ilejemeje Local governments. It is not when one joins a party that matters, but one’s worth and contributions. The governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, who returned to the PDP recently won election on APC’s platform in 2015, barely one month he joined the party. The governor was given the ticket based on his worth and not when he joined APC. When I joined APC, the party was docile in my constituency. I mobilised the people to bring it back to life. I sensitised our people that hope had not been lost. The outcome reflected in the results of the July 14 governorship election, which Dr Kayode Fayemi won. I also worked for the emergence of Dr. Fayemi in the primary. I convinced our people on the need to embrace his aspiration owing to his worth and his performance during his first term. I have become a household name in that constituency. I am not afraid to go into election with anybody. What have you done that makes you stand out among APC aspirants? Before I joined our party, I have been giving out scholarships to students. I have been empowering the widows and our jobless youths. But. since I joined the APC, I have paid WAEC fees of 180 students in the three councils that make up our federal constituency. I have given bursary to 210 students of tertiary institutions. I have empowered the youths and provided social security to the elderly across the three councils. I have been encouraging our youths on how to be focused and this I did by way of getting joblessness out of their lives. The recent one was for our farmers, who I have organised into groups with access to soft loans from a fund I provided to help them expand their farms for better profit and for them to live good lives. So, whoever will contest against me must come out with his own score card of what he has done for the people. The contests, both primary and the general elections, will be based on what you have done for the people. This stands me in good stead to clinch the ticket and win the election. What are your chances in securing the APC ticket? Let me say that the chances of APC is very high in that constituency, because the 79-year-old man, Hon. Thaddeus Aina, who is representing the constituency now has not given effective representation. He has not called a meeting once to tell his people what he has done. Apart from this, he has not raised any motion or sponsored any bill or even contributed to discussions on the floor of the National Assembly since 2015 he was elected. Is that what we call representation? Our people are ready to change and that will happen in 2019. They need a very active youth and that they have seen in me. Regarding the APC ticket, I know I have a good chance. Our leaders, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Chief Segun Oni, knew my worth and contributions to ensuring that APC won the governorship election. Though, I am not saying I should be imposed, all I want is free, fair and credible primary and once that is done, I will surely get the ticket. Our people are behind me and they are supporting my aspiration. Do you put the influences of your leaders like Fayemi, Oni and Adebayo into account over who becomes the party’s candidate? Yes, I put that into consideration, because they control large followers, including me. But, they are leaders who believe in fairness and justice. They won’t impose anybody and that they have assured us. So, it is a mere rumour that they are supporting anybody. They do not have an anointed candidate for the National Assembly contest, whether in my constituency or elsewhere. As our fathers, they will ensure that right things are done. You said Dr. Fayemi won the July 14 election. Are you not worried that the PDP is challenging his victory? Well, that is the beauty of democracy. Election petition tribunal is part of the electoral process. Dr. Fayemi became the governor in 2010 through the same process. So, we are not rattled at all. The PDP is embarking on a wild goose chase by challenging the outcome of the election. The APC candidate won the election through free, fair and credible process. The election was never rigged. Even the PDP thought we would deploy federal might by arresting their members the way they did in 2014 election. But in this election, nobody was arrested, nobody was molested, it was largely won based on popularity and antecedents. There was no town out of the 133 towns that we got to that Fayemi won’t point to at least three projects, unlike the PDP that concentrated all its projects in Ado and Ikere Ekiti. Besides, we did vigorous campaign before the election. We did door-to-door campaign, neighbour-to-neighbour and house-to-house contacts to let our people know that the APC was better and they agreed with us. We met with teachers, workers, artisans and farmers and they voted for us. Forget the vote buying issue the PDP was using to discredit the election. When we had the opportunity under Dr. Fayemi, we didn’t renege on our promises. We did well and this gave us the hope and confidence that Dr. Fayemi won’t fail at the tribunal. The PDP will come out of the litigation process empty. They have no sufficient grounds to upturn the verdict of Ekiti voters. Your party has won the governorship contest. What do you expect Dr Fayemi to consider while constituting his cabinet? I won’t be the one to dictate to an experienced person like Dr. Fayemi how to compose his cabinet. He has the experience and human capital to get the right people that can move Ekiti forward. But, you should know that if he could appoint a diligent Opeyemi Bamidele as his campaign Director General, he would fill his cabinet with persons that can deliver the goods. But, as a matter of suggestion, let him consider competence and party loyalty. Party loyalty is very important, because when a person works hard for a party day and night and he is sidelined or discarded after recording victory and freshers are brought in to enjoy, such could cause crisis and apathy about party issues. Those who did well for our party must be compensated. A situation whereby someone who did nothing will be the ones to enjoy, our party will be faced with major challenges. Even when one is loyal to a party, he must possess the capacity to deliver. He must be competent, because it takes an intellectual and brilliant person to turn around an economy like Ekiti. We must put the right pegs in the right holes. Dr. Fayemi has the capacity to assemble a good team that can take Ekiti to the next level...Read More Here http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/08/fayemi-will-floor-pdp-at-tribunal.html

Reports from multiple sources have revealed how three young Nigerians reportedly tortured to death by the Police in Delta State, who accused them of being ‘yahoo boys’. The late victims were arrested after police officers attached to B Division in Delta State broke into their apartment, and surrounded everyone in the house with guns. Social activist, Prince Emefile Harrison who shared the report, wrote; “#PoliceKilling #Justice4Ifunanya ONE MINUTE SILENCE FOR IFUNANYA, VICTIM OF NIGERIA POLICE TORTURE, DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND. Ifunanya, a young promising Nigerian tortured to death by Nigeria police officers attached to B Division Warri Delta State. Ifunanya was still at asleep when officers attached to B Division broke into their apartment and surrounded everyone in the house with guns . Looking for what they call ‘YAHOO BOYS’. They searched the house, found nothing and ordered Ifunanya and four others to enter their Hilux van…. At first, they thought it was a normal thing they experience everyday, police breaking into people’s house, arrest them and threaten them to pay before they are released. Police officers picking you up walking on the street and force you to write statement. But this time, the officers from B Division Warri tortured Ifunanya to get information but he couldn’t make it like many Nigerians who passed away through that process. Ifunanya fainted and was rushed to General hospital and was confirmed Dead by the Doctor. The police hurriedly arraigned the other people arrested with Ifunanya and charged them for Armed robbery. This is no movie… The picture shows Ifunanya, who is now lying dried in the mortuary. The other people are currently in Okere Prison Awaiting DPP advice for a crime they didn’t commit. For years, the police keep acting with impunity and they always resort to torture and other forms of human rights violation in dealing with civilians. Until the Nigeria Government take a firm and decisive stand on violations of human rights, arbitrary arrest, the unlawful killing of unarmed Nigerians by security personnel will never end. These young Nigerians were killed by officers in B Division Warri, Delta State led by CSP Aniete Eyoh. Some shot, some tortured to death and others that survived are in Okere Prison because they couldn’t bail themselves out. Information received from that end is a bad one and needs urgent attention. Together with other dedicated, passionate Nigerians, we are working out plans to put an end to these killings. When you see us in your street, join us” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/08/police-brutality-3-nigerians-boys.html

A user @obembet, on a popular Nigerian forum, Nairaland, has given her opinion concerning the popular singer, Yinka Ayefele’s building demolition, last weekend. On Sunday 19th August, 2018, the Oyo State government had taken an action to demolish Yinka Ayelefele’s Music House after serving the media house a demolition notice weeks earlier. The demolition of the N800 million building sparked reactions across the country and a lot of Nigerians are of the opinion that the government had gone way to far in their ‘witch-hunting’ escapade. However, the user on the forum had a different view and wants Nigerian to think twice before getting emotional over the demolition. According to @obembet, Yinka Ayefele ‘excos’ demolition won’t be the first in Oyo State. She added that there was even a demolition that was supported by Yinka Ayefele’s Fresh FM radio station. Read her post: JUST BEFORE YOU GET EMOTIONAL AMD CONCLUDE WRONGLY. There are intricate lessons to be learnt from the demolition. I have decided to take the lessons rather than being emotional. I knew the building will be pulled down if not now then later. If not by this government, then by a later government. Why are we being emotional about this demolition? Oh because it’s owned by Ayefele or because it is a radio station? Definitely whichever of the two reasons is not above the law of the land which is subject to a lot of interpretations. Has any one drove from Idi Ape through Bashorun to Akobo? Those buildings pulled down were owned by people like Ayefele. The businesses there employed people too. Oh because we assumed that they were not physically challenged or owned a radio station? When Barrister Lowo Obisesan held away as a Oyo Commissioner, he went about restoring the beauty of the land by pulling down everything that needed to be pulled down thus making Ibadan a beauty to behold. A lot of bread winners were affected. Same FRESHFM supported him back then. So now the chicken has come home to roost. Let’s not crucify Ajimobi, Ajimobi has no single power to effect any demolition. The demolition was done by the OYSG. By May 29 2018, Ajimobi would walk away as a private person. The OYSG would always be here with us. Another man would mount the saddle as a Governor. Governance would continue. Our dear UCH lost its fence worth about N12million to that road in front of the Hospital. I doubt if we have been paid for it. This is an opportunity for politicians to score cheap points. I’ll rather these politicians come together, pulled resources together and build another befitting Music House that in years to come would not fall ‘foul’ of government environmental laws. Government is like Management. Decisions are taken a times that we do not understand and feel shouldn’t have been taken. But the government like the management still has to take a decision irrespective of whose ox is gored, irrespective of if we like it or not, irrespective of if it favors us or not. A government or management who lacks the will to take a decision has no moral latitude to be called a government or a management. However, if like it’s being guessed that the demolition was to silence the opposition, then too bad. There area about 27 other radio stations in Ibadan alone. I seriously doubt if OYSG will want to muzzle the media. They told me this has been on for 7 years that Akala out of impunity bent the rules and roads for Yinka and no way it will not haunt him forever. Now a demolition of a year was sent to him to come rectify the adjustment.he refused. At the expiration of d 1 year.they served a 3days notice on him which expired on wednesday. The buldozer did not come that day only for yinka to rush to sue the government on thursday.Meanwhile courts are on break and case yet to be heard.no court injunction served.Yinka n fans continued to sentimentally insult Ajimobi and even Dapo Lam Adesina was at the station yesterday bashing Ajimobi. He now went ahead to pull down the illegal structure in question and not d entire building. Now egbon what is on that land that yinka is scared to leave.Remember his scandal with Erelu Agbaye who claimed they gave him fame.Yinka could have gone to Akala to help intervene and relocate him to another place.!!!!! The Zamfara State government has claimed that it has lost 3,000 lives, with the state government spending some N17bn in the past seven years on fighting against banditry in the state. The Secretary to the Government of Zamfara, Prof Abdullahi Shinkafi, made the disclosure on Sunday in Gusau at a town hall meeting, organised by the Nigerian Bar Association. NAN reported that the meeting was called to find a lasting solution to the worsening insecurity in the state. According to Shinkafi, “the banditry has resulted in the death of over 3,000 people, destruction of over 2,000 homes, burning of over 500 cars and kidnapping of over 500 people for ransom. “When you hear N17bn, it sounds huge but when you break it down to the various components in tackling insecurity, you will see that it is not even enough. “In 2011, we provided 457 vehicles for security agencies; in 2012, we provided 2,250 vehicles; in 2014, 77 vehicles and 50 vehicles each in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. “We also have to give funds to those affected by these attacks to at least help them in some way.” He recalled that the crisis which started as a minor clash between herders and farmers had been taken over by armed bandits, who had carried out about 40 attacks. He attributed the banditry to the shortage of manpower in the state, stressing the need for more indigenes to show interest in joining the security services to protect the state. Kevin Hart and his gorgeous wife Eniko Hart celebrated her birthday and their two year wedding anniversary last night. Kev decided to leave the kids at home and take his wife out to a romantic dinner in Beverly Hills. Kevin opened the door for his wife – who had on heels. And the paparazzi snapped a pic of the two standing side by side. In the pic, Eniko was standing on the curb (about 4 inches) and Kevin wasn’t. But the size difference between the two was dramatic. Folks online are commenting on how much TALLER Eniko is than Kevin. In the pic she seems more than a foot taller than her husband. Kevin’s happy family life comes just months after the actor was involved in a cex extortion scandal after he cheated on his then 8-months-pregnant wife. On September 16, 2017, the actor and comedian issued a deeply sentimental apology to Eniko, 33, who he’d been married to for a little over a year, tying the knot in August 2016 after a two-year engagement. In the apology, Kevin addressed the news of his encounter with model Montia Sabbag and the subsequent extortion attempts that took place, whereby the pair was recorded having cex in his Las Vegas hotel room a month prior. “And I just, you know, it’s a s—-y moment. It’s a s—-y moment when you know you’re wrong and there’s no excuses for your wrong behavior,” Kevin said. “But I’m also not going to allow a person to have financial gain off of my mistakes […] I’d rather fess up to my mistakes,” he added. Captain Muhammed Abubakar has revealed how he went from being an aircraft cleaner to a pilot. Abubakar became a viral sensation, recently, after a tweet about how he went from an aircraft cleaner to a pilot was made. In an interview with Dailytrust, Abubakar has now revealed how he was able to achieve his goal. He revealed that when he finished his secondary school, he went to Kaduna in search of admission into Kaduna Polytechnic. Unfortunately, he went there late and could not get the admission. According to him, he searched for something to do to get going, so he got a casual job as an aircraft cleaner with Kabo Air in Kaduna. He said; “I was earning N200 per day, even though many believed that I wouldn’t do it because of the meagre money involved. I was later employed as ground staff with the airline in Maiduguri.” Along the line, Abubakar got employed as a cabin crew member, earning N17,000 monthly. He later moved to Aero Contractors, where he worked with their chartered services. According to him, when Aero Contractors ventured into scheduled services, he gave some input, which made the then Deputy Managing Director of the company to take notice of him. He recalled to Daily Trust Saturday that when he received his first payslip at Aero, he was shocked, and even tried to return it, thinking it wasn’t his. Instead of adopting a lavish lifestyle typical of the sector, Abubakar decided to save and invest. Abubakar said; “I joined a contribution system with my colleagues, and when it was my turn to receive the accumulated funds, there was a sizeable amount of money. So, I went to the MD and sought his advice on my dream of training as a pilot. He was so happy, and supported me. That’s how I managed to sponsor myself for my private pilot licence in Canada,” Aero then assisted him to return to Canada to train for a commercial pilot license and type rating, which qualified him to be a pilot. Prophet Udensi Godlove of Land of Oil Prophetic Ministry (AKA Hill of the Lord), Lagos has predicted the outcome of the 2019 general elections. The cleric gained national recognition in June, when in a viral audio message, he prophesied the Otedola bridge tanker explosion where nine persons were roasted to death and more than 54 vehicles burnt to ashes along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He also warned Nigerians to pray and avoid traveling out of Lagos on some certain days because of a looming disaster. Speaking with DAILY POST during the week in Abuja shortly after ministering at Joshua Talena Shpeherd’s House, the young prophet said that power would only change hand in 2019 if President Muhammadu Buhari chose to withdraw from the presidential race. According to him, there will be a cold war before, during and after the election, but at the end, the storm would role away. Asked to comment on the outcome of his prophecies, which sparked nationwide debate, the fiery preacher said, “The aftermath of the prophecies has been overwhelming. In fact, so many people have been calling and as a matter of fact, many people who have not been taking prophetic declarations seriously have been calling and asking for spiritual directions in other to escape all the tragedies. “It has created a lot of awareness. One good thing about it is that it brought about reawakening because so many people now believe that truly God speaks. “I knew the prophecies would spark controversy, but I am messenger and I had to do my job. When you are a messenger, you don’t bother about the repercussion of the message if you are delivering it the way the messenger wanted it to be delivered.” On how he feels if his prophecies don’t come to pass, he said, “It is very rare because most my prophecies always come to pass except the one that has to do with individuals that they have small roles to play before the prophecy would come to pass. For instance, if God says you are going to have a baby boy and you spend three years without meeting your wife, the prophecy cannot come to pass.” When reminded that many men of God predicted that immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan was going to win the 2015 general election but it failed, he said, “Do God lie? No, God is not an author of confusion. Some people prophesy out of sentiments so they tend to speak towards the direction of that person. But when God speaks, it must come to pass. When you see a conflicting interest, it is not that God is divided, those behind the prophecies did that behind their selfish motives and what they stand to gain. This is why there is conflict of interest.” On what Nigerians should expect in the 2019 general, Udensi said, “2019 is going to be very interesting. By the Grace of God I have watched the election twice, the election day, after the election and the result of the election. “You know in 2015, there was a lot of tension before the main elections; it was as if Nigeria was going to break, in fact, there will be tension everywhere but along the line, the storm will just disappear. “There is something you have to learn about Nigeria, they can shout but are afraid to die. “I see some few candidates coming up, by the end peace will reign. There would be cold war, but there won’t be battle. There is no cause for alarm.” Asked if power would change hand, he said, “Power changing hand? No, power will only change hand if the president decides to withdraw his candidacy from the race; apart from that, I don’t see any power changing hand.” On the killing in the nation, the man of God said, “Every life is important to God. These killings are signs of demonic presence. So there are people who have sold their souls to the devil, there are some people who are celebrating the killings in the nation. The truth is that they will not escape the wrath of God.” PLEASE READ MORE>>>http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/08/2019-pastor-who-prophesied-otedola.html Kindly Visit: mcebisco.com.ng

The Chairman, Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr Suleiman Nazif, on Friday said the committee would submit its report to the Committee on Appropriation for further action. Nazif made this known when the Minister of Budget and Planning, Udo Udoma and INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, appeared before the joint committee on INEC in Abuja on Friday. President Muhammadu Buhari had requested the National Assembly to approve N189billion, out of which N143.52 billion will be in the form of virement for funding of the 2019 elections from the 2018 Budget. He said the balance of N45 billion would be included in the 2019 Budget. The INEC chairman also presented a budget of N189 billion but explained that the commission required the whole amount for the conduct of the election. Nazif said the committee would meet to deliberate on what was presented to it and thereafter forward its report to the Committee on Appropriation for further action. However, he expressed concern that while INEC was requesting the appropriation of the total amount, which is N189billion, Mr President requested for virement of N143 billion from the 2018 budget and balance of N45 billion from the 2019 Budget. “We made consultations and it was based on that that we invited the Minister of Budget and National Planning to make comment on the issue in contention. “The issue in contention is that we have a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari of a Supplementary Budget of N143 billion. “Though, there is another N45 billion which he said will be included in the 2019 Budget. When you put that together, you will get N189billion, which is what INEC also presented. “So, there is no confusion in it. INEC did the right thing. INEC sent exactly the same thing. “However, it is the source of funding that is the problem and that is why we invited you. “The president said the balance of N45 billion will be serviced from the 2019 budget and our concern is that election would have been over by then. “We have gotten the message from the minister of planning. It is our duty to decide on what to do. “We have the prerogative as a committee and we will decide if we will go with N143 billion or 189 billion. “We are talking about national interest and we should be united to move the nation forward,” he said The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Mr Udo Udoma appreciated the lawmakers for cutting short their recess to attend to the budget. He said, “The amount INEC asked for is N189 billion but when Mr President considered the funding constraint, the budget office looked through the budget. “We realised that there are aspects of this budget that will not be spent in 2018 but in 2019 and those elements were pushed to 2019 budget. “I heard that one of your concerns is that the 2019 budget may not be passed in time to accommodate the N45 billion. “What I will like to say is that we will have no objection to your appropriating the full amount of N189billion, so that you do not have to reconsider for the 2019 budget. “That will mean that we will not include the N45 billion in the 2019 budget. “Because the President has approved 189billion, should you wish to appropriate for the full amount now, the president will not have objection. “However, the president came in the form of Virement because of funding constraint so as not to increase the overall size of the 2018 budget.” The minister said the request by the president that the election budget be funded from N578 billion inserted in the 2018 Budget by the national assembly was to maintain the budget size. However, he noted that the N578 billion was not inclusive of N100billion appropriated for constituency projects. He said, “we prepared a schedule which was attached to the letter sent to the national assembly and the schedule has projects worth N578 billion. “Provided the amount is taken from this by way of Virement, it will be consistent with the president’s request. “This list of projects does not include the N100billion provided for constituency projects.” In his remarks, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said what INEC submitted to the committee was in tandem with what the president presented. He, however, noted that the issue is, how much of it is coming out of Supplementary Appropriation of 2018 and how much of it is going to be taken in 2019. “How the money is sourced is not a matter for INEC, it is a matter between the Executive and the National Assembly. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari, in his “desperation to achieve a personal ambition was holding the nation to ransom” by refusing to sign the Electoral Act Amendment bill, passed by the National Assembly to check manipulations in the 2019 general elections. PDP claimed that President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are “quavering because the draft law effectively checked all their machinations, which they have been deploying in rigging past elections and intend to use in the 2019 general elections.” A statement by PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan said the “Amendment bill, which is in the overall interest of the nation, embattles President Buhari because it eliminates openings for major malpractices including the use of underage and alien voters, vote buying, alteration of results and manipulation of voter register, which the APC intends to use to rig the 2019 elections. “Such provisions include granting INEC powers to utilize Full Biometrics Accreditation of voters with smart card readers and other technological devices, which the Buhari Presidency and APC know will effectively check their reliance on dead, underage and alien voters, which they intend to use, particularly the Presidential election. “The amendment bill also provides for Instant Transmission of Results from polling to collation centers which ensures real-time results and reduces human interferences and election malpractices, thus effectively checking the alteration of results by the APC. “Furthermore, the Presidency and APC are against the provision that makes it mandatory for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish voters register online as such will end their usual manipulation of voter register ahead of elections. “The Presidency and APC are also opposing the amendment bill because of a provision which restricts arbitrary qualifications for candidates and encourages younger aspirants, as they fear that such can jeopardize President Buhari’s chances within the APC. “President Buhari knows that, having failed Nigerians in his first tenure, there is no way he can win in a free, fair and credible election, hence the desperation to manipulate the system and undermine the electoral laws”. The opposition party also urged the PDP the National Assembly to “override President Buhari since his refusal to sign the amendment bill is out of personal and partisan interests instead of the overall interest of the nation. “This is especially as Nigerians have already reached a consensus to rally on the platform of the repositioned PDP to elect a new President with the competence and sincerity of purpose to return our nation to good governance, national cohesion and economic prosperity.” PLEASE READ MORE>>>http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/08/2019-why-buhari-is-jittery-holding.html Kindly Visit: mcebisco.com.ng

A Former United Kingdom Foreign Minister, Baroness Lynda Chalker, has called for synergy between all tiers of government in Nigeria in order to meet the needs of the citizens. Chalker told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that Federal and State governments must learn to work together in the interest of the masses. “Nigeria’s government at all levels must learn to listen to one another and work together to provide social amenities that the people want. “The federal and state governments must learn to listen, learn and work with one another to provide what the people want. “It is not right to say that a road is a federal road when it damages; so the government must learn to talk together and listen to one another in order to satisfy the needs of the people,” she said. Earlier in her lecture on “Africa in a Competitive World, Development and Business” at the Lagos State University (LASU), Chalker said most African economies, including Nigeria’s, would not achieve sufficient sustainable growth unless there was progress in raising competitiveness, productivity and business digitization. “The capacity to offer Nigerians greater opportunities and better living conditions would depend on how successful it was at increasing competitiveness, controlling corruption and smartening up its offer to both Nigeria and foreign investors”, she said. The UK former minister said that success could only be achieved by reinforcing education, creating a stronger ecosystem where the private sector could develop. “Over the last five years, Africa has seen the highest rate of population growth at about 2.5 per cent annually and by 2050 a quarter of the world’s population will be on the continent,” she said. According Chalker, in Nigeria alone, two to four million young people are estimated to join the labour market yearly. Governor of Enugu Dtate, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has advised members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that would participate in the conduct of the 2019 general elections to be guided by national interest. Ugwuanyi gave the advice on Monday in Enugu during the closing ceremony of 2018 Batch ‘B’ orientation course for corps members deployed to the state. The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Josef Udedi, said that the call became necessary following the increasing and critical roles of corps members in the electoral process. “The 2019 general election is fast approaching and corps members, as usual, will play vital roles in making the exercise successful as electoral umpires. “I urge you not to be partisan but to acquit yourselves creditably in order to contribute positively to the smooth electoral system in the nation. “The actions of the corps members should be anchored on the objectives of the scheme among which he said was to promote unity among the diverse nationalities in the country. “I, therefore, charge you to pursue the realisation of this goal in practical terms by regarding your host communities as your homes by joining to uplift them. “Your primary assignment will certainly be challenging as you will be posted to four key sectors of the state economy where your services will be mostly needed. I have no doubt that the training you received had prepared you adequately. “It is my belief that your initial apprehension and prejudices have given way for better understanding of the diverse cultures and nationalities that make up this country,” he said. He, however, cautioned them against unnecessary journeys, adding that many lives had been lost in the process. “You should, therefore, avoid embarking on frequent travels except when absolutely necessary.“ PLEASE READ MORE>>>http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/08/nysc-what-ugwuanyi-told-corp-individuals.html Kindly Visit: mcebisco.com.ng

A former military governor of Kaduna State, Colonel Abubakar Umar (rtd), has said that the sack of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura was not enough. He, therefore, insisted that the Federal Government must investigate him. In a statement on Friday, Umar said that he (Daura) might constitute a threat to Nigeria’s democracy if the Federal Government fails to investigate him. According to the former governor, he had in the last three years of leading the DSS created for himself, “a government within a government in Nigeria”. He said: “Without a doubt, the summary dismissal, last week, of Alhaji Lawal Daura, Director-General, Department of State Services, came as a big surprise to many people. It seemed to contradict the world order! “In the last three years, Lawal Daura had marched from one audacious act of impunity to another; had rudely defied the president, had routinely ignored court orders and seemed all but successful in carving out, for himself, a government within a government in Nigeria. “There was hardly any observer of the turbulent Nigerian political scene over the last several years who still believed that Lawal Daura was subject to any laws not to speak of official code of behaviour. “But on Tuesday, the 7th of August, 2018, Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, signed a terse, two-paragraph letter telling Lawal Daura that he has been dismissed from office. Not only that, Professor Osinbajo also ordered Lawal Daura be arrested and remanded in police custody. “Given all the distress created by the actions of Lawal Daura and those caused through his refusal to act, the decision to sack him did not come a moment too soon. “And yet, in the interest of our democracy, to guard against unexpected threats and conspiracies, the action taken by the acting president must not stop halfway. The government should seek to discover the motives as well as the explanation for some of those crazy manoeuvres, many of which simply beggars belief,” Umar said. According to him, some of the areas the former DSS DG should be probed include reasons why he allegedly deployed DSS operatives and prevented EFCC personnel from searching the residences of Mr Ekpenyong and former NIA DG, Mr Oke. Several rallies were held on Wednesday in some local governments in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district of Akwa Ibom State against the defection of former governor Godswill Akpabio from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Before Akpabio was received into the APC, some stakeholders in the senatorial district gathered at Ritman College to denounce Akpabio’s defection, while also reaffirming their support for Governor Udom Emmanuel. According to Emmanuel Ibok Essien, former deputy chief whip of the senate and founder of Ritman University, the resignation of Godswill Akpabio as senate minority leader was without the support of the people, adding that his defection was a shameful act. Essien, who said he was the director general of Akpabio’s senatorial campaign, expressed dismay that the former senate minority leader took the decision to defect without the courtesy of informing him and other dignitaries in the district, maintaining that the people had withdrawn the endorsement and the support they had earlier given to Akpabio. “Since we heard that Akpabio was going to defect, it has been a shameful thing to us and we as a people have withdrawn the earlier endorsement given to him,’’ he said. Essien, who addressed the rally at the Ritman College, said his defection would mean a liberation to the people of the area, since according to him, out of the 54 appointments in the district, Akpabio got 34 for the people of his local government area, while Ikot Ekpene got only five. He maintained that Udom, who is from Akwa Ibom south senatorial district of the state would serve for eight years since Akpabio from Ikot Ekpene senatorial district had also served for eight years. Other speakers, including serving commissioners, like the commissioner for science and technology, Nse Essien and chairman of Ibom power company, Etido Inyang, as well as Sunny Ibuot, former chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local government, all denounced Akpabio’s defection, while pledging their support to Governor Udom Emmanuel. It was gathered that similar rallies were held in all the local government headquarters in the senatorial district as a demonstration of the people against the defection of the former senate minority leader. Meanwhile, at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium, Senator Akpabio was formally received into the APC by the party’s National Chairman Adams Oshiomole.
