Politics‘don’t Sack Civil Servants Over Tinubu’s Comments’ – PDP Begs Nigerian Govt by 3Ebisco(op): 9:53pm On Jun 25, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the All Progressives Congress, APC, led federal government ‎not to sack civil servants ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu disclosed the sacking plan last Saturday, during the party’s national convention in Abuja.

‎The PDP also described the planned sack as extremely wicked, reprehensible and unacceptable, saying the government ought not to sack workers that have a different ideology from that of the government.

“Nigerians were terrified when APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the party’s National Convention revealed the party’s plan to undertake a blanket victimization of federal civil servants and appointees perceived to favour or habour opinions different from those of the APC.

“Our investigation reveals that part of the plot, which is feared might even commence soon, is to frame up such public servants as fifth columnists as openly suggested by Asiwaju Tinubu and hang spurious allegations on them for political reasons.

“The PDP totally condemns this vicious scheme to victimize our federal workers or cause any one of them to suffer any hurt because of APC’s re-election quest. We insist that this desperation for power by the APC should not in any way, or under any guise whatsoever lead to the victimization of workers at any level across our country.

“Under our laws as a nation, Nigerian workers, like other citizens, have the right to opinion and choice of who to vote for at elections and nobody has the power to molest or threaten them in the exercise of such rights.

“It is on record that throughout the years of the PDP in government at the centre, no worker or public servant, at any level, was intimidated or coerced in any form for his or her political opinion or preferences.

“We know that the Buhari Presidency and the APC is jittery ahead of the elections but such burden should not be placed on the shoulders of our workers and we urge the workers to note those to hold responsible should any harm befall any of them.

“Finally, the PDP urges all Nigerians workers to be at alert, especially as the APC will use its agents to attempt to divide their ranks in furtherance of the plot,” the PDP said.

PoliticsAPC National Convention: Obaseki Speaks On Oshiomhole’s Emergence As Chairman, O by 3Ebisco(op): 9:40pm On Jun 23, 2018
Edo Sate Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has reated to the election of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He also saluted the immediate past National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, for providing purposeful leadership that brought the ruling party to power after defeating the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 general elections

He said, “We are very proud of Comrade Oshiomhole’s emergence as the National Chairman of our great party, the APC.

“He is adequately equipped to foster unity and provide a new direction for the party, as we move closer to the general elections in 2019.”

He said Odigie-Oyegun was a worthy leader with honour, adding, “Chief John Odigie-Oyegun’s impressive rise to prominence was the product of a combination of hard work, humility and faith in God.

“From his humble background, he was taught the inestimable value of hard work, integrity and a good name.

“In the federal civil service, Chief Odigie-Oyegun distinguished himself and was propelled to the enviable position of a federal permanent secretary.

“Chief Odigie-Oyegun’s forthrightness, civility and decorousness garnered from his impressive years of service to our great country in the civil service, marked him out for higher national call to serve our country after his retirement from the federal civil service.

“These sterling qualities earned him the confidence of Edo people, when they turned out in their numbers to entrust him with their mandate as the first Governor of Edo State, in the aborted third Republic, from 1992-1993.

“As a loyal and dedicated party man, his leadership qualities earned him the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and under his leadership, the APC grew into the largest party in Nigeria and displaced the then ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power at the center, through popular vote in the 2015 presidential election.”

PoliticsWhat I Will Do To ‘hypocrite Obasanjo’ On July 3 – Soyinka by 3Ebisco(op): 12:58pm On Jun 23, 2018
Noble laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka yesterday said he will expose the atrocities of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to Nigerians on July 3.

The literary icon said while maintaining that it was time the old breeds left the political stage.

According to the veteran playwright, the country cannot continue to recycle old corrupt and geriatrics.

Soyinka said this yesterday at a Dinner and Award ceremony of the International Press Institute (IPI) in Abuja

“The old corrupt and old geriatrics should leave the stage now,” he roared.

Speaking further, Soyinka noted that Obasanjo had crossed the red line, adding that the revolution for young people to take over governance should not be led by somebody like the former President.

“Obasanjo has crossed the red line”, he declared.

He said Obasanjo was “one of the greatest hypocrites Nigeria has ever produced,” vowing that he will on July 3 at Freedom Park, Lagos unveil Obasanjo’s atrocities.

He said he documented the atrocities because Nigerians had the tendency to forget easily.

CelebritiesKim Kardashian Hits Back At People Who Blasted Her For Wearing Fulani Braids by 3Ebisco(op): 7:26pm On Jun 22, 2018
Kim Kardashian West has spoken out against critics who judged her for rocking fulani braids for an awards show .

The 37-year-old reality star who rocked raids to the MTV Movie & TV awards Sunday was slammed over her thin corn rows after experiencing an immense about of backlash earlier this year for a similar style after calling them Bo ‘Bo Derek’ braids .

In an interview with Bustle, Kim revealed her decision to wear the braids was because her eldest daughter, North West, wanted matching hairstyles.

‘I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her. So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair,’ Kim explained to the news site.

I obviously know they’re called fulani braids and I know the origin of where they came from and I’m totally respectful of that,’ she said. ‘I’m not tone deaf to where I don’t get it. I do get it.’

After people complained, Kim said she should’ve explained her meaning before posting the Snapchat.

‘But in no way am I ever trying to disrespect anyone’s culture by wearing braids,’ Kim said. ‘If anything, my daughter was so excited to see me get matching braids with her.’

Politics2019 Election: I Can Face Any Force, Apc Ruining Nigeria – Atiku (must Read) by 3Ebisco(op): 9:10am On Jun 20, 2018
Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday stated that he can face “anybody” in Nigeria.

He also lamented the state of the economy, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) government was running the country badly.

The Waziri Adamawa said this after a meeting with Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

He was accompanied by a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Minister of Nigeria Delta Affairs, Godspower Orubebe among others.

After a close-door meeting with Dickson, Atiku visited the PDP secretariat where he addressed a crowd of party supporters.

He said: “The last time I came here was several years ago. The changes l have seen in the state are monumental.

“This is all because of you not because of one individual. You have been supporting this party since 1999 and what you are seeing today is as a result of your support and hard work.

“Once you don’t change parties, you will see what is called good governance. Once you change from one party to another, this one will come, he will do this project and stop and another one will come and start another project and stop.

“We have to work together to see the changes in Nigeria like you have been experiencing in Bayelsa. We must return PDP to power at the federal level. I am ready. I was in the vanguard of fighting the military to return this country to democracy.

“Some of us lost their lives but we succeeded. When we came back to democracy, we stood up to anti-democratic forces and you know l can stand up to anybody and any force in this country.

“This country requires a change. Before 2015, you know how the economy was and today you know how the economy is. We have the largest unemployment in the history of this country since the APC came to office.

“Because APC were never there before they don’t know how to create jobs, they don’t understand the economy, they don’t know how to govern and they never understood the complexities of this country.

“I have been following with keen interest your (Dickson’s) position on restructuring. If you know, I have been advocate of restructuring since 2004. Governor Dickson, I would like to invite you as you join me as we work together towards 2019 so that we can do it together.

“The governor and I are on the same page as far as the issue of restructuring is concerned. We have been consistent about it. For us to get the unity, progress and development we are looking for, we cannot escape from restructuring”, Atiku added.

CrimePolice Deny Shooting Four Persons In Kano by 3Ebisco(op): 2:32pm On Jun 19, 2018
The Kano Police Command has denied a media report alleging that its officers shot four persons at Shoporite located in Ado Bayero Shopping Mall Kano on June 17.

The denial is contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Majiya and issued to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.

“The attention of Kano police command is drawn to a media publication by Solacebase media that police on guard duty allegedly shot four persons at Shoprite Kano on June 17.

“The reporter did not verify nor balanced his story but went on to publish.”

According to him, ongoing construction works from Dangi round about to Zoological Garden along Zoo Road in Kano had created heavy traffic flow forcing the closure of recreation centres in the area.

He however said that some youths protested over the closure, throwing stones and vandalising public and private properties, a situation that necessitated police intervention to restore order.

“Police would not fold it’s arms and watch while law and order is broken,” he stressed, insisting that when the stampede occurred the police acted professionally and never shot at anyone.

The command’s spokesman further insisted that that the police neither used firearm nor even teargas.

“Minimum force was used to disperse the protestants, while children and properties were professionally safeguarded by the police and sister security agencies working at the place and peace was brought under control within shortest time.”

Majiya stressed that the people of Kano enjoyed peaceful Sallah celebration with many trooping to other recreation centres to celebrate Eid-El-Fitr.

Eze, who escaped being lynched by the community youths on Tuesday after he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old male student of the school, is reportedly on the run.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Haruna Muhammed, told SUNDAY PUNCHon Saturday that the principal had yet to be arrested.

PoliticsRivers LG Polls: What Would Have Happened If APC Participated – Wike by 3Ebisco(op): 10:21pm On Jun 16, 2018
Govenor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has stated that the state would have witnessed violence if the All Progressives Congress (APC) participated in Saturday’s local government election.

He commended the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) for the successful conduct of the polls.

Wike made the commendation in an interview with newsmen shortly after monitoring the election in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas.

According to a statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, his media aide, the governor also commended the security agencies for creating the right atmosphere and ensuring that the elections were peaceful.

He said: “Sixty-six out of 68 political parties participated, but no violence. That means that if APC had participated, probably we would have seen violence.

“Sixty-six political parties, no violence, no shooting, nobody has died.

“But, if the APC had participated, they would want to coerce security agencies, they would do all manner of negative things like bringing cultists to shoot.

“You can see that nobody hijacked materials. Everything has been peaceful.’’

The governor also noted that the security agencies played their constitutional roles during the elections.

“I have called the heads of security agencies and commended them for a job well done. That is what I have always said – allow people to vote for those they want,” he said.

Wike said that the message to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was that they could conduct credible elections if they resisted pressures from different quarters.

“INEC can be committed to do the right thing; once they build confidence, every other thing will move on smoothly.

“We have gone round two local government areas; the elections went on peacefully and they were credible. Election materials arrived on time, except for a few places.

“Like this, nobody will complain. Observers from across the board have commended the process,” Wike said.

PoliticsWhy Igbo Will Vote For APC In 2019 – Ex-reps Member, Oge-ali by 3Ebisco(op): 7:38am On Jun 16, 2018
The immediate past representative of Ohaukwu/ Ebonyi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Peter Oge-Ali, has said that the Igbos had fully embraced the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oge-Ali told NAN on Friday that the region had realised that APC was the only realisable path to the country’s presidency in 2023.

“During the 2015 presidential elections, the APC received less than 200 votes in the South-East Zone but the people have presently seen the importance of linking to the centre.

“This can only be achieved by identifying and voting for the APC because it is difficult to get the nation’s presidency without negotiation.

“The Igbos will have the bargaining power for the 2023 presidency if they vote for APC in 2019 and this is the message we are preaching to the people,” he said.

Oge-Ali urged the Igbos not to vote for parties that assume regional dimensions because the possibility of getting the presidency in 2023 is real.

“They should massively vote for President Muhammdu Buhari for a second term in office because he is determined to correct the anomalies that have bedeviled the country.

“The president should be allowed to complete his eight years in office to adequately sanitise the country and set it on the path of greatness.

“Buhari’s works will not be appreciated presently but in the future with landmark achievements such as signing the Not-Too-Young to run law, financial autonomy to the legislative and judiciary, among others,” he said.

He urged the National Assembly to cooperate with the executive arm of government to ensure effective legislation and implementation of governmental policies and programmes.

“Both arms of government should cooperate instead of engaging in excessive squabbles but it should be understood that such situations are normal even in developed democratic settings.

“However, it shows that democracy is finding its roots in the country but the interest of the country should supersede other interests,” he said.

PoliticsEid-el-fitri: Saraki, Dogara Speak To Nigerians by 3Ebisco(op): 7:39am On Jun 15, 2018
President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has called for sustained prayers for peace in the country even as he congratulated Muslim faithful across the country.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, to commemorate the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations urged Nigerians not to lose hope even as he commended Federal Government efforts in combating the challenge of insecurity.

He, however, said it was imperative for Muslim faithful to utilise this period to pray fervently for peace and unity in the country.

“We have just ended a month-long fast thus paving way for the Eid-el-fitr celebrations. These two periods are such times that the Almighty Allah enjoined us to ask for his blessings. We should, therefore, seize the opportunity to pray for the country and its leaders,” Saraki said.

“Nigerians should use the season to promote national integration as Eid-el-fitr is a time of love and goodwill. It gives us a message to love all and hate none.Despite numerous challenges in the country, hope is not lost as only tolerance, stronger sense of patriotism and love for one another will help the country surmount her present socio-economic challenges,” he said.

Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has urged Muslims to pray for key leaders in Nigeria.

Dogara in his Sallah message to the Muslim community in Nigeria enjoined them to sustain the lessons of Ramadan and replicate same in their daily lives for a better society.

His message read “As you join the rest of the Ummah all over the world to celebrate this year’s Eid el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, I enjoin you to replicate and demonstrate in your daily lives the lessons and virtues of sacrifice, forgiveness, piety, self denial and genuine love towards one another which you learnt during the month-long fast.

“This is indeed another moment of celebration and sober reflection. And apart from reflection, I urge you to also take out opportunity, cashing on the spirituality of this festive period to offer special prayers for the nation against the backdrop of the current security and economic situation and to lift up our people before God, especially the downtrodden- those Who struggle to make ends meet as well as the leadership of this country- from Mr. President, the Vice President, the Leadership of the National Assembly, the Governors down to Local Government Chairmen and councillors for God to grant us wisdom and give us understanding and for Him to open up doors of opportunity so that we will be able to meet the expectations of the peopleand overcome the many challenges in the country.

“Nigerians, irrespective of their persuasions should cement the bond of unity and brotherhood as a people of common destiny and contribute meaningfully in the quest for building a peaceful and united country.”

PoliticsI Won 2015 Election – Ohakim Tells Okorocha by 3Ebisco(op): 11:22pm On Jun 14, 2018
The former governor of Imo state, Ikedi Ohakim has described Governor Rochas Okorocha as a ‘liar’, while revealing why he lost the 2015 governorship election in the state.

The former governor, who was reacting to Okorocha’s claim that Imo people hated him and kicked him (Ohakim) out of office, said the governor had lost credibility.

Okorocha had also claimed yesterday that Ohakim ran the worst government in the state right from the military regime.

But Ohakim, reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Collins Ughalla, said Okorocha does not like the truth, adding that Imo people like him so much.

According to him, “Okorocha does not like the truth. Going by the 2011 governorship election, Imo people loved Ohakim, so much. They voted for him [Ohakim] and he won that election.

“Don’t forget that the election was militarized. It also witnessed the kidnapping of the returning officer from Ohaji/Egbema local government, which had 34,000 votes.

“Don’t forget Ohaji/Egbema, remains a PDP stronghold and the votes were Ohakim’s votes. The votes from Oguta LGA, remains inconclusive.

“They did not allow it to be counted. If you put all these together, you will find out that Imo people did not reject Ohakim. Today, Imo people now know that Ohakim is a saint compared to Okorocha.”

PoliticsCourt To Rule On Suit Asking Buhari To Declare Fulani Herdsmen Terrorists by 3Ebisco(op): 8:30pm On Jun 13, 2018
The Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday fixed June 21, to rule on a suit seeking the proscription of Fulani herdsmen as a terrorist organisation.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole fixed the date after listening to an ex-parte application filed by a Makurdi- based legal practitioner, Mr Matthew Nyiutsa.

Nyiutsa is seeking the leave of court to compel President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney -General of the Federation (AGF) to move a court of competent jurisdiction to proscribe herdsmen as a terrorist group.

He said that this was with particular reference to the herdsmen operating in Benue.

Nyiutsa, who appeared in person, told the court that he was a victim of the continued attacks by “Fulani herdsmen” on communities in Benue which resulted in the death of more than 200 persons and the destruction of private and public properties.

“Properties such as residential houses, hospitals/clinics, churches, schools, bridges and markets worth billions of naira have been destroyed.

“The herdsmen have also caused grievous bodily injuries to several hundreds of people as well as take-over ancestral houses of displaced persons in Mbadwen, Uvir, Mbabai, Nyier and Mbayer/Yandev among others,” he said.

He submitted that the series of armed attacks particularly from Jan 1, to May, on inhabitants of communities in Guma, Logo, Makurdi, Gwer-East, Buruku, Tarka, Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local government Areas of Benue were acts of terrorism.

This according to him is as defined under Section 1(3) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011 as amended.

Nyiutsa further submitted that his right to ventilate his predicament under Section 6 of the 1999 Constitution must be preserved and protected by the court.

He urged the court to grant the application so that it could be heard on its merits.

The plaintiff in the suit is demanding the sum of N50 million as exemplary damages against the respondents.

PoliticsFayose To Obasanjo: Stop Raising Alarm… Clear Your Name by 3Ebisco(op): 1:46pm On Jun 10, 2018
Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to clear his name and stop raising alarm on plot to arrest him.

In a statement on Friday, Obasanjo accused the government of President Muhammadu Buhari of plotting to hang a crime on him.

But Fayose said Obasanjo deserves whatever “humiliation” he gets from the current administration.

He also told Buhari to be careful because he would not be president forever.

“Nigerians are being humiliated and tried every day by the dictatorial government of President Muhammadu Buhari that he (Obasanjo) helped to enthrone,” he said in a statement.

“Some of us have gone through trials before and we are not afraid of trials even today.

“The President can go ahead and arrest Obasanjo if he desires but he should remember that what goes around comes around. He won’t be President forever too. After all, they have been intimidating and humiliating former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife.”

Fayose referred Obasanjo to page 96 of ‘My Watch’, the autobiography of the elder statesman.

“I prefer him (Buhari) to jail me than Jonathan to return to destroy this nation,” Obasanjo wrote in the book.

Fayose said since Obasanjo preferred to be jailed by Buhari, he should not be afraid to go to prison.

He said Obasanjo refused to speak when Buhari’s government allegedly harassed people in the past.

“When other Nigerians were at the receiving end of President Buhari’s
dictatorship, Obasanjo was going in and out of the Presidential Villa.

“Where was he when Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) was arrested and detained since 2015 despite court orders for his release? When over 1,000 members of the Nigeria’s Islamic Movement were killed in Zaria and their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky arrested and dumped in detention since 2016 despite of court orders, what did Obasanjo do?

“Where was Obasanjo when armed men of the DSS invaded the Ekiti State house assembly and abducted one of its members? Did Obasanjo travel out of Nigeria when judges were being arrested in the night in a Gestapo manner?

“Obasanjo lacks moral rights to complain about Buhari’s government because himself and the President have been partners for over 40 years. It was when President Buhari served as Minister of Petroleum and NNPC Chairman in 1977 under Obasanjo that N2.8 billion oil money went missing from the accounts of the NNPC in Midlands Bank, United Kingdom.

“Both Buhari and Obasanjo are already spent forces and have gone senile. Nigerians no longer need the two old men and the more they fight themselves, the better for the country.”

PoliticsNigeria’s Democracy In Danger, Duke Warns by 3Ebisco(op): 6:20am On Jun 10, 2018
• Reaffirms readiness to face Buhari in 2019

Christopher Isiguzo in Enugu

Former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke Saturday in Enugu said he was not deterred by the apparent determination of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to clamp down on perceived opponents ahead of the 2019 general election, vowing to sustain his ambition of seeking for the presidency.

Duke who spoke at a dinner and award ceremony organised by the Law Students Association of the University of Nigeria (UNN) in Enugu expressed dismay that the nation’s democracy was under threat.

He was also concerned at the alarm raised by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo of plot to arrest him based on trumped-up charges by the Buhari administration, and hoped that it was false.

According to him, “should such alarm turn out to be true, then any gains made since the nation’s return to democratic rule 19 years ago would have been totally destroyed.”

On his presidential aspiration which he formally declared at the event, amid large ovation, the former governor said he was tired of complaining, adding “it has come to a point that if you run, you may not win but if you don’t run at all, it means you will never win. It’s therefore better to run and that’s what we must do.”

He said the nation needs a leader imbued with demonstrable strategies to steer the ship and rescue it from sinking.
On whether he would prosecute his presidential project on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Duke said though he still remained in the party, there was an ongoing amalgamation of various political parties which he said would ultimately shape the coming elections.

He disclosed that there was no going back on his presidential aspiration whether on the platform of the PDP or not.

“I am in the PDP at the moment, but there is an evolving amalgamation of various political parties but I don’t want to pre-empt them; I don’t know what shape or form it will take. Whether in the PDP or not, regardless of what it is; I am going to run,” he stated.
THISDAY checks revealed that the former governor was a leading member of the ‘Coalition for Nigeria’ Movement and may likely eventually pitch tent with the movement’s adopted political party, African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The PDP has since last year, zoned its 2019 presidential ticket to the north.

The former governor however chided the youth for paying attention to frivolities like acquiring numerous SIM cards, instead of getting Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and urged them to take advantage of the recent “Not-too-young-to run” Act to get actively involved in the political processes.

Regardless, he applauded Buhari for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day and recognising the presumed winner of the 1993 election, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, posthumously; his running mate, Alhaji Babagana Kingibe and frontline legal activist in the battle for the revalidation of that election; Chief Gani Fahewimi.

Duke however, urged the federal government to release the full result of the election conducted 25 years ago which was adjudged the freest, fairest and most peaceful in the nation’s history.
