The greek word translated "beginning" in that passage is ARCH. Read Ephesians 1:21 and Colossians 2:10: "and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power." The word principality in these passages is the same word for beginning in Revelations 3:14.
The word is ARCH could mean rule, beginning, first, principality, magistrate or power.
