Buttresses my point of how clueless most vying for power are. From Jonathan, Buhari and then this dude. What executive powers would he deploy to axe the senate? The only way is probably a referendum by the people to end the duplication of role at the senate. Stop promising about what you have no idea of. |

How are u going to do that??....wwpby a decree or by an executive order. I dnt understand. The only way to do tht is thru a decree but in a democracy there r no decrees. An executive order cannot abolish d Senate. If it is tru a bill, den tht bill must be sent to the senate to approve it.....imagine sending a bill to d senators to disband the senate.....my 3year old nephew get sense pass this guy |

The way people write garbage on nairaland baffles me. Omoyele Sowore was student Union President in Unilag 25 years ago and he went on to establish Sahara Reporter based in the USA. Someone here who has not even achieved anything in life is calling him a clown. This guy and Durotoye should be supported by all to bring an end to all these thieving old politicians. The president of France is just 40 years old. Stop collecting N5k to come and spew garbage on Nairaland. Ziggylady: 5 Likes |

He is committing the same error that MKO Abiola made however, he can't do that by veto power and the house of assembly may not approve such proposal. |

BlackBaron: In Nigeria that is not the only way . The political reality of Nigeria is that the powers of the president are immense. The main power he could deploy and I am not agreeing with him is the Federal might . If he campaigns and wins on that promise I do not see anything stopping him in Nigeria. It is a political and not a legal or constituutional issue One thing a lot of people forget is that the 1999 constiitution is essentially a military decree. ONE decree. It bears repeating. The Nigerian constitution is decree 24 of 1999. Just as it was enacted so also it can be abrogated or suspended . How? By force. The question is "Is it practicable " . In Nigeria yes. In fact it will not surprise me if Buhari does something like that To achieve that a president would first need to consolidate his grip on the Armed Forces which is doable . Whether Sowore has the skill to do that is another matter but there is no shortage of advisers. How it will end is unpredictable. There is no provision for referendums in orl law or constitution so that is a non issue. On the political front. I am sure a president should be able to persuade his party to back him but if he fails to do so then abrogating the National Assembly , assuming authoritarian powers and declaring a transitional government with an exit date is an option. The North did a coup in 1983 and when they were leaving put in place their own constitutiion. Do not doubt that a civilian head of state cannot do a coup against the national Assembly. 1 Like |

I think he has a point. If he wants to abolish the senate and adopt Unicameral parliament, he must push for a referendum just like they did in Mauritania, but would these thieves in the red chamber allow that? That is the question Sowore needs to answer. 1 Like |

Who are the real Nigerians who go out to vote? Personally I wish I could. But I will dare not be in a place where violence can erupt at any moment then probably get myself hurt. So are many other people who would rather sit at home where it's safe than take any risks on election day. But what we really need is a political coup. We need to take power from the hands of the current people who are making us suffer in our father land. These same people have their machinery in place already and they know how to rig elections, get the poor people just to make up the numbers they need to win. While people like me sit and watch the wrong person being sworn at the end of it all. |

Nigerian Youths may never breathe a sigh of relief from the hands of their oppressors if they miss this opportunity to elect Omoyele Sowore as President, This guy is the Last man standing when it comes to Real struggle in Nigeria, Many of his contemporary who fought the Military were Killed and some were imprisoned to death Sowore is indeed the Last man standing amongst the Unionist of the 80s, who refused to hands down to corruption even when it was profitable to do so, In the 80s when we were all in school, Sowore made name in all Nigerian Campuses as a notorious incorruptible Student Unionist, in the days when Aluta was Aluta before Obasanjo infiltrated the students with compromiser Unionist fought the Police to a halt and were feared By the present Oppressor (Police and Government) Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, University of Benin, University of Calabar and a host of other schools cooperated and were united as a front against the government draconian rule. no one thought that Nigeria will be this down This same Sowore was a Fire brand known to all union members across the tertiary institution, some of his contemporary were not so lucky, "Africa of OAU " was Killed BY government agent, one of the brightest union Leaders from IFE Sowore is not confused, He knows what a good system aught to be, If the Youths fail to sue for this Guy, it will take another 100 Years for Nigeria to be Liberated Mind you all these countries abolished the Senate Bahia, Ceará, Pernambuco, São Paulo (1930), Croatia (2001), Denmark (1953), Egypt (2013), Greece (1935), Hungary, South Korea (1960), Peru (1992), Portugal (1926), Sweden (1970), Turkey (1980), Venezuela (1999) and Mauritania (2017) once possessed upper houses but abolished them to adopt unicameral systems.
