Southeast or South South has nevet had the numbers or clout to put anyone in power.

Examples:

- After Yaradua passed & GEJ was blockaded from his constitutional right, SE & SS went mute. It took protests by SW to ease the man in. This is clout.

- Ibos in SE & those spread across SW, SS, NC, NE, NW & the peoples of all SS states voted massively for GEJ, did he win? This is numbers.

SE, like Buhari said, is 5% pere. Okorocha knows this & diplomatically said he does not rely on Ibo votes to win.
Where are you getting your history from?
it was dora akunyili in the national assembly that fought turai and her kitchen cabinet to force Jonathan to be sworn in .
Don't revise history here.

Jonathan gut 10million votes with his biggest base being igbos and the South South, Buhari got 12 million with unprecedented northern support and majority Yoruba votes .
Common sense shows that it was igbo support that prevented Jonathan from losing woefully given the odds.

Buhari claimed he got just 5% from the south East. Yes, because we didn't vote for him.
95% of our votes went to Jonathan which made the election very close.

The Yoruba on the other hand have always been perpetual opposition.
Hanging on to buhari coattails will not change that.

Southern part of the country cannot easily win presidential election. The north will continue to work against the unity of the south. It is to their own advantage. They understand politics more than their southern counterpart.
The problem is mainly structural and began with British interference. Firstly, Rivers Niger and Benue were the natural boundaries that should have formed the regions but it wasn't used rather the Northern region was allocated a very large area relative to the South. Why would states like Kwara, Kogi and Benue be in the North?
Secondly, while South has two major ethnic groups and other distinct but highly independent minorities, the North has just one major ethnic group and numerous minorities who were comfortable to accept Hausa fulani hegemony and cultural as well as language influence over them. This now gave the Hausa fulani an undue advantage over the Igbos and Yorubas coupled with a census that was rigged in their favour all in a bid to perpetuate their dominance over their Southern counterparts. The loss of Biafra by the Igbos worsened an already bad situation and the Hausa fulani now felt they are in complete control of Nigeria. They also used the military regimes to further strengthen their strangle hold on the rest of Nigeria. It would have been easier for the South to challenge them if the Yorubas are homogeneously Christians like the Igbos, but with the former having a huge percentage of its people as Moslems who are loyal to the Northern Moslems, it now forms a loophole for them to always manipulate the South easily through this fault lines. It would have been a balanced equation if the North East or North Central has a major ethnic group that could have countered the Hausa fulani hegemony.
The only thing that can save the South now is restructuring to make everyone semi independent and grow at their own pace instead of being controlled by others.

Bro, the thing is that, as things stand today, SW holds the ace in Naija politics at the moment. This could shift to any other region at any time. The need to force PDP out of government left ACN, a southwestern party at the center of political whatever since 2015. If PDP takes back the government, ACN/SW won’t spearhead or decide elections like it is now. It is just a momentary stuff. SW has always been a hub of opposition politics with preference for regional development.
Yes, you hold the ace right now as long as buhari is there.
Because he needs a southern base and the rest of the south will never support him except the South West.

if someone more acceptable comes to the fore and is acceptable to the rest of the south, Yoruba relevance diminishes very quickly.

Do not be disillusioned with the promise of power coming to Southeastern Nigeria through Buhari government. The mathematics is clear. Sentiments apart, Two Northerners will emerge as Frontline candidates of the two dominant parties and so it won't be a a walkover for Buhari in the north this time especially in the north central and part of North West.
Southwest are Enlightened enough to vote with their heads making them swing-region.
The only strategy that is not binding is the promise of returning power to Southeast which is not 100% guaranteed.
Once 2023 elections approaches, the full weight of North would prefer to support a South western candidate than an Igbo man. That's where Tinubu factor comes in. Once he signifies interest.... They will do everything possible to make him President.
Again, don't fall for power going to the southeast ín 2023....they'll rather allow a palace coup as the administration approaches the end....
With the antecedents of the present administration on Tribalism and ethnicity.... I can't believe them anymore. I'll prefer a liberal candidate from the North to spend another 8 years and restore the UNITY of Nigeria and equal justice among the citizens. This Buhari administration has created a very bad precedent!
When I wrote that post, I wasn't hoping to convince anyone of you that you should see the right path, enjoy your voyage into the political wilderness. Bye

If APC no field Ibo man for 2023 presidencu, SE + SS + North go vote PDP. Ibo no gree make yoruba become president again when OBJ don rule already. grin

Politics is all about interest, whether selfish or altruistic. In 2015, Tinubu wanted the vice presidency position while Saraki wanted to become Senate president. They both pursued their personal ambition that is within their rights. Attacking Tinubu based on his 2015 aspiration is plain silly.

As regards 2019, it is again all about interest, selfish or altruistic. Tinubu is supporting Buhari because his group will stand a good chance of getting the presidency in 2023. Igbo's are supporting Atiku with the hope that south east will get the vice presidency and subsequently get the presidency after his tenure. Atiku, Saraki, Tambuwal, Kwakwanso etc all rejoined PDP simply because of their presidential ambition. Power will go back to the south for 8 years if Buhari wins a second term. So, they have to fight it out with him now. Politics is all about interest, alignment, positioning and calculation
That's why politicians will continue to rape us. Nobody talks about development, about growth, about progress. It's all about interest, interest, interest. We'd be like this for a long time. The politicians are playing our games, acting out our drama and we find it all very interesting cos we have agreed it's all about saraki interest, Tinubu's interest, akpabio's interest, buhari's interest.

We'd be in this puddle for a long time.

Before 1999, Tinubu had none of these:

1. Oriental Hotel
2. Falomo Shopping Complex
3. First Nation Airline
4. Lekki Concession Company
5. Apapa Amusement Park
6. Maiyegun Land Project
7. De Nation
8. Renaissance Hotel
9. Tejuoso Market (Joint ownership)
10. Ikeja Shopping Mall
11. TV Continental
12. Converted Lagos Poly land for TVC
13. Owned NNPC Office building in Lagos
14. Radio Continental
15. Owned School of Nursing building in Lagos
16. Tax Collector of Lagos State (Alpha Beta)
17. Wife is a member of the National Assembly
18. Son-in-law is a member of the National Assembly
19. Daughter is the President-General of Market Women Association in Lagos
20. N4 billion government financed property for self at Queens Drive, Lagos.
Tinubu acquired all of the above and many more not listed after he became Governor of Lagos State, first in 1999 and won his second term in 2003. He remains Governor Emeritus of Lagos, controlling the State’s treasury through his protege Governor Fashola.

But EFCC will never hunt for him and his followers will say he's not CORRUPT. Until we are ready to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Politicians will keep taking us for a ride....Thief nah thief

Your submission is not only the wrong one, but an extremely emotional & deluded one!
Firstly, with the politics of bitterness & hatred the Igbos play now, mostly stemming from the fact that they're still so pained about GEJ's loss in 2015 even when the man himself & his people have since moved on, only the south south might manage to support an Igbo presidency if they contest against a South Westerner!

Secondly, you claim you're "too sure" Buhari will lose in 2019 but you yourself don't even know who he'll lose to! Isn't that funny? grin grin

Tinubu attacked first, and he set the records straight. Saraki has never been the first to attack Tinubu, because he's busy delivering dividends of democracy to the public through the senate.
Tinubu is still pained that Saraki defeated his candidate and also help Dogara defeat his puppet to become speaker

There was no way Saraki would have stayed back in APC, infact, he should have left long time ago, he was persecuted, called names, charged by the party he contributed to and helped win elections.

Though I don't have any pity for politicians, but Saraki for carpeting Tinubu is nonsensical

Tinubu is a very greedy animal.
He thinks he's the best thing to happen after slice bread, the people he's working for thrashed him in 2015 after winning the election only to come back when they discovered that he's needed, he'll be eventually used and dumped.

Tinubu is pained that, his puppet and car washer gbajabiamila was defeated in the speakership position while Saraki defeated his candidate, Lawan to be the senate president.

Tinubu should know clearly that, what Saraki has achieved, he can never ever achieve it in his lifetime, it's will be on record that, Saraki is the Number 3 man in the country, while Tinubu is a mere local politician in Lagos putting his children and grand children in positions

I want people to also mark this today, Tinubu will never ever rule Nigeria as president, he will be probably put where he belongs in 2019 after Buhari has rigged himself in, he will be taught a more bitter lesson like they did after 2015 election.

The senate under the leadership of Bukola Saraki is the best thing to ever happen to Nigeria since 2015 politically, they have stood the tyranny and militarization of Buhari and his cohorts, Nigeria belongs to all of us, and so no one can cajole anyone to support dictatorial tendencies.

I also applaud Saraki and encourage him to always keep the certificateless man in check, we the ordinary people will always stand by him.

Long Live Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki
Long live Oloye
Long live Kwara State
Long live Peoples Democratic Party.

Bull.

Buhari was elected because for the very first time he was able to rally the entire north through an anti Jonathan mantra.

Remember, Jonathan was taking the slot that was supposedly meant for the north which led to many heavy defections of political strongmen from the pdp especially from the north.

Take away that northern unity that he currently enjoys and buhari will never smell the seat of power even if every eligible Yoruba votes for him.

It is really bad that any individual or region will wish another 4 years of Buhari on Nigeria just to win the Presidency in 2023

This is very cold and calculated and surely does not serve the greater good.

Saraki is ambitious and so is Tinubu. But the clear fact is Saraki is aligning his interest with that of the Nation.

Supporting Buhari for another 4years because of 2023 aspirations is very bad. I hope Nigeria is there in 2023
