PoliticsBuhari Responsible For Deeply Divided Nigeria – Odinkalu by 4Ebisco(op): 8:04am On Apr 14, 2018
Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has said that Nigeria has never been as divided as it is under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an interview with The Sun, Odinkalu said Buhari acts as if “Nigerians don’t matter, as if we don’t exist”.

Odinkalu, who questioned the priorities of the president, said Buhari was quick to send a “very powerful message” when Winnie Mandela, ex-wife of Nelson Mandela, died, but kept mum on the deaths that occurred in the country days earlier.

“The country is deeply divided as it is now and I think the reasons are due partly to the actions and inactions of President Buhari,” Odinkalu said.

“ I am not the oldest Nigerian alive but in my limited lifetime I have never seen Nigeria this deeply divided and I think many of the issues have to do with this incumbent president.

So far the president behaves as if Nigerians don’t matter, as if we don’t exist, as if he doesn’t need us and that he is doing us a favour. So on security, there is nothing.”

Odinkalu said Buhari who contested the presidency on the mantra of change is “incapable of change”.

He said though it is up to Nigerians to decide if they want Buhari to be president beyond 2019, “he is not a person to unite Nigeria and he is not the person to transform the economy”.

“President Buhari ran on a mantra of change, but nothing has changed, not even the thinnest drop in his performance,” he said.

“He has changed nothing and is incapable of changing nothing. He is incapable of change, he is incapable of fighting corruption.

Let the people decide whether the country that Buhari has led over the last three years is the kind of country he promised he would create.Whether the kind of divisiveness, prejudices and subversion of the basic precepts of coexistence is the way to go, it is up to Nigerians to decide.”

PoliticsElectoral Act: Why NASS Must Override Buhari – Wike by 4Ebisco(op): 7:41am On Apr 13, 2018
Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has again urged Nigerians to prevail on the National Assembly to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto on the 2010 Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

He said this will guarantee free, fair and credible electoral system.

The governor made the call on Thursday while declaring open the 2018 annual Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Section on Legal Practice Conference in Port Harcourt.

He appealed to the Nigerian legal practitioners to rise up and insist on the relevance of the amended Electoral Act, 2010.

“Let me remind us that a defining feature of the legal profession is the commitment to promote both the substantive rules and the processes of the law, as well as to defend the democratic values of our society,’’ Wike said.

He called on the lawyers to constantly reinvent and reposition themselves in response to existing and new challenges both in the theory and practice of the law.

The governor said that legal practitioners should think of ways of remaining relevant in the legal practice in a bid to meet the demands of their clients and society in the most professional, diligent and efficient manner.

PoliticsThere Will Be No E-voting In 2019 Election – INEC by 4Ebisco(op): 12:12pm On Apr 12, 2018
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, says electronic voting will not be used in 2019.

Prof. Yakubu said this in Abuja on Wednesday at the end opening of a three-day International Conference of Election Management Bodies (EMBs) in West and Southern African countries in Abuja with the theme “Opportunities and Challenges in the Use of Technology: Experiences from West and Southern Africa”.

INEC boss, who is also the President, ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC), however, said that electronics facilities would be deployed in the collation and transmission of elections results.

He said, “The brainstorming was to look at the adoption of technology in all the areas of electoral process and how to provide secure platform for the transmission of election results without hindrance.

“We are to deploy technology within our various legal frameworks within the regions. Election is not just about technology, it is about the confidence of the people in the electoral process.”

He said with the efforts being made to improve the electoral process, elections were going beyond the capacity of the electoral commission to manipulate.

Politics2019: Woman Will Takeover Over From Me – Gov. Amosun by 4Ebisco(op): 8:50am On Apr 11, 2018
The Ogun State governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun has declared that his successor would be a woman and ‘a whiz kid’.

The Governor’s declaration apparently shocked members of his cabinet who were with him at a World Press conference to herald the 3rd African Drum Festival at MITROS Suites and residences, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

Amosun, who was fielding questions from newsmen on the sustainability of the Drum Festival after his tenure ends next year, assured that his choice of replacement would be “a whiz kid, who will surpass him in all ramifications.”

“Let me say this. A woman is going to be next governor of Ogun State. She is a whiz kid that will key into what we have been doing in the last eight years,” he said.

He assured that with what his administration had achieved, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, would win the 2019 elections.

Before now, there has been speculations that the governor had settled for the choice of a Canadian-based Mrs. Titi Odunfa Adeoye as the party’s candidate in Ogun state come 2019.

He was quoted to have said at a recent fora, that “my candidate will not be politician, not even in APC.” The disclosure on Tuesday, may have further put to rest all permutations and calculations even in the ruling APC in the state.

Politics2019: It’s Easier To Defeat Buhari Than Another Candidate – Deji Adeyanju by 4Ebisco(op): 12:37pm On Apr 10, 2018
A former New Media Director for the Peoples Democratic Party and Co-convener of Our Mumu Don Do group, Deji Adeyanju, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a ‘dunce,’ who should not be given another chance to rule the country.

He said all Nigerians should unite and vote out Buhari, who he described as enemy of the country.

Adeyanju was reacting to the Monday’s declaration by Buhari to run for a second term.

Airing his views on Twitter, Adeyanju wrote, “For me, it’s good for the dunce to seek re-election because if he doesn’t & they present another candidate, it will be difficult to defeat them.

“The entire opposition in the country must unite against this enemy of Nigeria before July. Forget about PDP or any party, just UNITE. Buhari will suffer the same fate Jonathan suffered. He will be defeated.”

PoliticsIn A Surprise Announcement, Buhari Says He’ll Seek Re-election In 2019 by 4Ebisco(op): 4:53am On Apr 10, 2018
• Kano residents jubilant, stocks drop to three-month low
• APC reverses tenure extension, grants waivers to Exco members to re-contest
• He has not secured party’s ticket yet, says PDP

Omololu Ogunmade, Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja, Victor Ogunje in Ado-Ekiti and Ibrahim Shuaibu in Kano

After months of speculation about his real intention, President Muhammadu Buhari surprised the leadership and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s secretariat in Abuja Monday when he informed them of his intention to seek re-election in the 2019 polls.
Buhari, who made the declaration at the resumed meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the APC, took party members completely unawares as they were not expecting him to speak on his 2019 presidential bid.

He informed them that his decision to make another bid for the presidency was in response to the clamour by Nigerians for him to re-contest in 2019.
A brief statement by his Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, said using the platform of the NEC meeting to make the declaration was predicated on the president’s decision to give the committee the honour of first notification.

Following the president’s announcement, residents in Kano celebrated, with many youths in the state expressing confidence that Buhari would now be able to complete the projects he had started.
However, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it would refrain from commenting on the president’s declaration, saying he had not yet secured the ticket of the APC.
Nigerian stocks also dropped to a three-month low after the president said he would seek re-election in 2019, ending months of speculation about his future after bouts of ill health.

According to Reuters, the stock market, which opened on a losing streak after Lafarge Africa announced a surprise 2017 loss, worsened its decline. The equity market fell near 40,000 points.
Monday’s NEC meeting, however, saw the ruling party reversing its earlier decision to extend the tenure of its executives by one year, and directing that the processes for the conduct of congresses and a convention should commence.

But it wasn’t a winner takes all for those opposed to the tenure elongation, as the NEC approved a waiver that would enable the current party leadership to seek re-election while retaining their various positions.
The party also approved the aspect of the recommendations of the Governor Simon Lalong-led technical committee, which advised that in the event that there is a problem and the congress becomes inconclusive, the party will ask the current leadership of the APC to remain in office, but in an acting capacity.

Before his presidential declaration, Buhari had thanked the committee for a job well done within the limited timeframe given it for the assignment.
He also encouraged party members to accept the report of the committee and prepare for congresses and a convention to elect new national executive committee members for the APC.

According to him, the work of the technical committee had shown a great sense of commitment to the ideals of the APC, “with a view to consolidating and positioning the party to continue delivering good governance in the overall interest of Nigerians”.
“With the present state of the party and based on the report submitted by the Technical Committee, it is important to focus on how to move the party forward by avoiding actions detrimental to the interest of the party.

“Considering that politics is a game of numbers, we must not be a house divided against itself and must try to note, appreciate and accommodate our differences as far as the law permits.
“Upon my review of the report, my position is to ensure that the party tows the path of unity, legality and cohesion and not that of division.

“Therefore, I am stressing that we should strengthen our internal democracy by organising the party’s congresses and convention where the election of National Executive Committee members would be held.
“This will automatically end the cases filed by members seeking orders of the court compelling the party to hold its congresses.

“I also believe that the current executives should be free to vie for elective positions in the party if they so wish as permitted by our party constitution,” he said.
Buhari, however, drew the attention of party members at the NEC meeting to Article 31(1)(iii) of the APC constitution, which requires any serving officer desirous of seeking re-election to resign from office 30 days before the election, saying he was uncertain of the practicality of serving officers meeting this condition.

On this basis, the president asked the APC to consider granting waivers to party executives at all levels so that they are not disenfranchised from participating in the elections.
“Considering the provision of Article 31(1)(iii) of the APC Constitution which requires any serving officer desirous of seeking re-election to resign from office 30 days before election, I am not sure of the practicality of present serving officers’ ability to meet this condition.

“Accordingly, the party may consider granting waivers to party executives at all levels so that they are not disenfranchised from participating in the elections should they wish to do so, provided this does not violate our rules.
“Necessary waiver(s) should also be extended to executives at the ward level whose tenures may have elapsed, and indeed to anyone knocking at our doors from other political parties. This is in the spirit of the Right to Freedom of Association guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In this circumstance, the party should officially issue a statement on the above waivers so that our house may be full. We all must not be ignorant of the times, and the journey that is ahead of us.
“Just like our party symbol, ‘the Broom,’ which typifies strength in unity, let us strive to remain united in our purpose. Victory is sure by the Grace of God, and together we must continue to sanitise Nigeria’s political environment,” Buhari said.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Lalong said Buhari formally informed the party of his intention to seek re-election in 2019.

Lalong, who was joined during the briefing by the APC spokesman, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, also made reference to Article 31(1) of the APC constitution, which states: “Subject to the approval of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee may in special circumstances grant a waiver to a person not otherwise qualified under if, in its opinion, such a waiver is in the best interest of the party.”

He said on this basis, the NEC approved the waivers that would enable executives of the APC to re-contest at the congresses and convention without having to resign 30 days before the elections.
Collaborating what the Plateau governor said, Abdullahi added that the report of the committee clarified the issue of having a caretaker party executive as opposed to the tenure elongation that had caused misgivings among members.

According to him, the NEC also approved the timetable and modalities for the national convention of the APC, adding that the NWC will at the appropriate time release the details.
He said contrary to predictions by naysayers that the NEC meeting will end in turbulence, party stakeholders were happy at the decisions reached at the meeting, describing them as a “win-win situation”.

Earlier, in his welcome speech, the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, expressed displeasure at the events of the past few weeks, saying that some persons had taken advantage of the unfortunate situation to malign him.
He said all the leadership of the party was looking for was for ways to minimise rancour in the party ahead of the next general election.

Oyegun, however, commended the president for showing respect for democratic ideals by not trying to impose his preferences on the party.
“We were looking for ways to save the party from potential legal booby traps. These are both valid considerations. The challenge that we have faced has been how to reconcile the two in the best interest of the party.

“On a personal note, I have had to endure virulent media attacks, malicious insinuations and outright character assassination.
“However, the responsibility imposed on me by my position as the national chairman of the party, demands that I rise above my personal pains and refuse to yield to the temptation to react in a manner that potentially complicates the situation for our party.

“However, I will like to urge everyone else to remember that regardless of our ambitions and personal interests, the party is greater than all of us,” he said.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and all the governors elected on the platform of the APC with the exception of Edo, Katsina, Yobe, Niger States, which were represented by their deputies, attended the meeting.

Jubilation in Kano

Upon getting the news that Buhari had formally declared his intention to seek a second term in office in 2019, many youths were jubilant in Nigeria’s largest northern state by population, Kano.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), some of the youths expressed optimism that Buhari would be able to complete the development projects that he had started.

Usman Baba, a resident, told NAN that the past three years of the Buhari administration had been spent restoring security in the country and fighting corruption.
“We are happy and hoping that President Buhari should return to embark on infrastructure development since he has already retrieved a lot from looters,” he was quoted to have said.

“We don’t want someone to come and embezzle the retrieved loot or divert it to some looters again. That is why we want him to serve another term.”
Abduljalal Mu’azu, another resident, also expressed optimism that if Buhari wins a second term, the country’s situation might improve.
A female respondent Malama Musa said the world had accepted the president as trustworthy and transparent.

Kano is pivotal to Buhari’s second term bid as the state gave him the highest number of votes in the 2015 election, just like in the elections of 2003, 2007 and 2011.
Out of the 2,172,447 votes cast in Kano in 2015, Buhari won 1,903,999 votes.
Also reacting to the development, the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who bizarrely threatened to sue Buhari if he failed to re-contest the election, described the president’s declaration as a patriotic response to the clarion call of Nigerians for him to put himself forward for re-election.

Speaking through his information commissioner, Malam Muhammad Garba, Ganduje said Buhari’s declaration to seek a second term in office would silence the opposition parties.
According to him, “I have been in the forefront campaigning and even asking the president to make his decision open to Nigerians on the second term bid.

“We thank God that today the president answered the call of Nigerians.”
Ganduje also assured the public that the state government would put all the necessary machinery in place to ensure Buhari’s success in the 2019 elections.
According to him, the citizens of Kano welcomed the declaration of the president with wild jubilations, signifying their support for the president.

Similarly, Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, commended the president for his decision to seek re-election in 2019, saying this had reaffirmed the president’s love for Nigeria.
Masari, who spoke through his media aid, Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, said it was now up to patriotic Nigerians to make sure that the president’s re-election comes to pass.

He said: “We owe ourselves a duty to ensure that President Buhari continues beyond 2019, so that he could consolidate on the achievements so far recorded under his watch.
“We will pull out all the stops, leaving nothing to chance in our efforts to ensure that Katsina State gives the president the highest votes in 2019.

“I congratulate ourselves (Nigerians) for this wonderful news of the president’s declaration to go for re-election in 2019, because there is no one better than him for the office, for now.”
Masari noted that the declaration would rekindle investors’ confidence in the Nigerian economy, and appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the APC-led administration for its purposeful commitment to providing meaningful development in the country.

Not Yet Presidential Candidate

The PDP, however, acted out of character Monday when it decided not to comment on the declaration by the president until he secures the ticket of APC to contest 2019 presidential election.
PDP spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan said in a statement that it was an internal affair of the APC.
PDP said the declaration had merely placed Buhari among the ranks of aspirants seeking to be president of Nigeria, effective May 29, 2019.

“Until he becomes the candidate of the APC, we will not spend precious time on his mere show of interest,” the main opposition party said.
Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, on the other hand, elected not to toe the path of his party, when he warned Nigerians not to embrace the re-election bid of the president in 2019. According to him, the declaration was dead on arrival.

The Ekiti governor also warned that if Buhari was re-elected, he would kill the country.
Fayose, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said if Buhari is unable to read the handwriting on the wall and does not know when to call it quits, Nigerians would show him the exit in 2019 by voting him out of office.
Fayose opined that Buhari was not only too old to lead the country, he had bungled the opportunity given him by his woeful performance.

“That ambition is dead on arrival. We don’t want grandpa as president anymore. Nigeria does not deserve a Buhari as president in 2019. Buhari is old and tired.
“When people don’t know when to take their leave and say bye, Nigerians will show them the exit.
“He has done more harm to this country. His ambition is a means by which Nigerians will tell him good riddance to bad rubbish when they boot him out of office. He is an easy candidate to defeat at the polls for he has failed woefully.

“He has failed on all fronts. He has failed in his so-called fight against corruption, he has failed on the economic front. He has not done well in terms of security.
“People are being killed in large numbers daily and Nigerians have no confidence in him.
“His declaration today is a slap on Nigerians in the face of what Nigerians are passing through. His government is not only clueless, but in a shambles. He should go home and rest,” Fayose, a harsh critic of the president, said.

PoliticsBiafra: What Igbo Elders Will Do If Buhari Fails To Remove IPOB From Terrorist’ by 4Ebisco(op): 9:20am On Apr 09, 2018
A renowned constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze has said that if President Muhammadu Buhari-led government continues its alleged injustice on the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Igbo elders be forced to takeover the agitation.

He said this while insisting that he will not be part of any kind of peace talk until the Federal Government reverses the proscription of the IPOB and removed it from its list of terrorist’ organisations.

He stated this when the leadership of IPOB visited him in his Kosisieme Family Estate residence in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State.

The IPOB had gone to apologise to him and the leadership of Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, for disrupting their meeting in Enugu on February 27, 2018.

Prof. Nwabueze said, “If the injustice being meted by the Federal Government on IPOB is not addressed, it will get to the stage when it will become an all embracing Igbo movement, that elders like me will take over the agitation and it will spell doom for the country.

“The injustice meted on Ndigbo and everything concerning them in Nigeria, justify the agitation by IPOB,” adding that “injustice against Ndigbo, dates back to 1965 when the Governing Council of University of Lagos, dominated by the Yoruba attempted to illegally remove a Vice Chancellor of Igbo extraction of the institution, Prof. Enyi Njoku.

“I still remember the story of University of Lagos when on 2nd March 1965, then I was a lecturer in the newly established University of Lagos, they attempted to remove Prof. Enyi Njoku as the Vice Chancellor and I said no, we will not accept that. I mobilised all the university students and lecturers in protest and the university was closed down for a whole session.

“We fought the Federal Government of Alhaji Tafawa Balewa to a stand still. I was arrested and sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Yoruba Magistrate for leading the protest and we appealed the judgment and a Sierra-Leonian Judge, J.S Taylor threw the judgment away and reversed my six months imprisonment and I regained my freedom and there was jubilation everywhere in Lagos by Ndigbo.

He lambasted the current administration for proscribing IPOB when organisations and associations like armed herdsmen, whom he said had massacred and slaughtered many Nigerians and are still killing people, have not been proscribed or declared a terrorist organisation.

“I will not be part of any kind of peace talk until the IPOB is unproscribed, until the declaration of IPOB as a terrorist organisation is removed. If the Federal Government has the courage to meet these two conditions, okay. We can talk peace and I will be there. If not, then count me out.

“I will not participate in any kind of peace talk so long as IPOB remains proscribed, so long as IPOB remains a terrorist group or organisation in the eye of the Federal Government. IPOB is only agitating for Biafra and self determination; they have killed nobody. On the contrary, IPOB members have been killed and are still being killed by the Federal Government’s troops.

“Nothing has been done to those who have committed murder and slaughtered innocent and law abiding citizens. You have not even disarmed the herdsmen, they are still moving about with AK 47riffles slaughtering people all over the places.”

Celebrities5 Ways You May Be Blocking Your Own Blessings by 4Ebisco(op): 9:15am On Apr 08, 2018
Sometimes “you” are the only person standing in your way. How is that possible you may ask?

1. Self Doubt: Think of how many talents, dreams, goals, businesses, gifts, jobs, relationships and so much more go to the grave with people. Fear is a roadblock stopping us from experiencing the life for which we were created to live.

2. Pride: Being able to admit our faults and wrong doings are what enables us to get back up and keep going when we fall. Proverbs 24:16 says “The righteous may fall seven times but still get up, but the wicked will stumble into trouble.”

3. Negativity: Negative thoughts can become negative words, and we all know words have power. Negative thinking can keep us captive. We can unknowingly choke our own blessings with negative thoughts.

4. Holding on to the past: Living in the past and refusing to move on only hinders growth and blessings. While you’re trying to hold on to a relationship that was never meant to be, God is trying to make room for the right one to come into your life.

5. Guilt: The devil’s favorite tool. He loves to remind us of our mistakes. Avoid the ‘If-Only Syndrome’. “If only I had done this… If only I hadn’t done that”. Guilt only reminds us of who we were yesterday, not who we can be tomorrow.

PoliticsNigeria Need Spiritual Support – Presidency by 4Ebisco(op): 5:50pm On Apr 07, 2018
The Presidency on Friday said that Nigeria was in need of spiritual support from respectable men of God as she approaches election year.

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina who stated this when he received pastors of the Gospel Faith Mission International led by the Deputy General Overseer of the Mission, Pastor Emmanuel Oluwayemi that paid him a courtesy call in his office, called on religious leaders in the country to continue to pray for the unity, peace and prosperity of Nigeria especially as we approach 2019 elections.

A statement by Attah Esa, Deputy Director, Information at the State House said, “As we approach the election year, please continue to pray that all will be well with our country.

People are getting desperate to ensure that their desires, often ill-motivated, are actualised. But by the prayers of spiritual fathers like you, it will be well with the country.”

He added that God is the ultimate solution to all challenges and that no man has the solution to happenings around him.

Mr Adesina expressed happiness that the Gospel Faith Mission International which is a highly respected organisation, known for its open and broad mindedness, had chosen to offer spiritual support to the government.

He reiterated President Muhammadu’s assertion that he is not a religious bigot and can never be one.

Pastor Emmanuel Oluwayemi had earlier told the Special Adviser that the church and the nation have a lot to do together especially at this time when there is tension in the land.

He added that the role of the church is to advise and pray for leaders of the country as commanded by God in the scriptures.

He acknowledged their role as co-builders in Nigeria to ensure that there is fairness and justice in the nation.

The Deputy General Overseer assured that the Gospel Faith Mission International will continue to provide back-up support for the government rather than heat up the polity.

He prayed that God’s hands will continue to be on President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other elected people in the country.

CelebritiesTaste Your Man Before Marriage – Actress, Sylvia Ukaatu by 4Ebisco(op): 7:28am On Apr 07, 2018
Nollywood actress, Sylvia Ukaatu, who recently celebrated her birthday, has shared her thoughts on pre-marital s-x.

According to the actress, she would taste her man before marriage to avoid stories that touch the heart. In her words; “It’s an individual opinion but there is nothing wrong in giving in to s-x before marriage when it comes to two consensual adults who know what they want.

I will give in to s-x before marriage because I can’t shout I need to know if my man is fit for the match. It is a serious business because it will be appalling to discover after marriage that my man cannot stay for five minutes in bed,” she told Potpourri in a one-on-one chat, when asked if premarital sex is wrong.

The Anambra beauty further emphasized her love for the intimate act when answering the question of what she would do if after marriage her man becomes inactive. “We must find a solution, I’m not the type of woman that sings “I don’t like s-x” thereby pushing my man outside.

I love sex, so, we must find a solution if such a thing happens but God forbid that it happens,”

PoliticsNigerian Constitution Guarantees Everyone Option Of Self-defence – Nwabueze by 4Ebisco(op): 7:56am On Apr 04, 2018
Elder statesman, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, has backed former minister of defence, General Theophilus Y. Danjuma’s call to Nigerians to defend themselves against alleged killer herdsmen.

He reiterated that the 1999 Constitution (as amended), guarantees every Nigerian the option of self-defence; if provoked or attacked.

Nwabueze also noted that the Federal Government’s failure to take proactive action against alleged killer herdsmen has put the country in a situation where anarchy and ethnic cleansing may be inevitable.

“Anarchy and a consequent ‘ethnic cleansing’ loom in the horizon if the attacks, killings, destruction of property and displacement of people by Fulani herdsmen continue unchecked and unpunished, given the failure or inability of the federal government to take action; to that effect, a state of things that may likely force the communities at the receiving end to resort to self-defence, as guaranteed by section 33(1) & (2) of the Constitution.”

Nwabueze reiterated that Danjuma only re-echoed a guarantee in Nigeria’s constitution when, in a statement on March 24, he called on Nigerians to rise up and defend themselves against the murderous attacks of Fulani herdsmen.

“The action, which the aggrieved individuals may take in self-defence, guaranteed by the constitution, must be viewed in the context of the extraordinary situation created by Fulani herdsmen insurgency and the means they employ – AK47, and other sophisticated weaponry.

“Faced by an attack by such means, self-defence using sticks, bows and arrows is futile and meaningless. What is the value in guaranteeing a person the right of self-defence and then denying him the appropriate means to exercise the right effectively when the need to do so arises?

Self-defence, to be effective and meaningful in the prevailing context, must be by means proportioned to the means employed by the attackers.

Disarming the citizenry and leaving them unprotected against killer Fulani herdsmen would only render nugatory, to a large extent, the constitutional guarantee of self-defence, viewed again in the context of the extraordinary situation created by the Fulani herdsmen armed insurgency and the failure or inability of the federal government to stop it.”

He said Danjuma did not just get up to make the call.

“He was moved to do so by the extraordinary situation, with its tragic effects, created by the Fulani herdsmen and the federal government. The result of Nigerians rising up to defend themselves may be indiscriminate killings, on both sides, ‘ethnic cleansing’ and anarchy.”

Regardless, the elder statesman hoped that such should not happen and added that if allowing Nigerians to bear and keep arms for self-defence leads to chaos, President Buhari should be held responsible.

“Should allowing Nigerians to keep and bear arms ever lead to anarchy and ethnic cleansing, then, the blame for that should be laid squarely on President Buhari for failing to disarm the killer Fulani herdsmen at the early beginnings of the conflict.

Had that been done, the killings, the destruction of property and the displacement of persons might not have occurred to the point of their escalation to a national calamity, and the point where self-defence becomes a national issue.

Still armed with AK-47 guns, the Fulani herdsmen were thus enabled to kill people in Kaduna State on March 29 and even on the very days the president went on a visit to some of the affected states – Plateau, Taraba, Zamfara and Benue.”

The Borno State Governor, Governor Kashim Shettima on Monday described the Boko Haram insurgents’ Sunday night attack on communities in Jere Local Government Area of the state as “sad and inhumane”.

Shetiima told newsmen when he visited the over 80 victims of the attack on treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri that the attack indicated high level of atrocities committed by the insurgents.

“It is very sad which no any sensible human being could inflict on another person; such level of dexterity, such level of atrocity but this is a war between light and darkness, and in the fullness of time truth shall always triumph over falsehood.

“We have repeatedly said they have been sufficiently decimated and these decimated monsters berks in the oxygen of publicity they are targeting soft targets, senselessly and criminally opening fire on innocent souls.

“Yesterday, we witnessed that very sad episode, we will continue to intensify our efforts to safeguard life and property, and we are talking with security agencies that are doing their utmost best to secure the state.

“Appreciable progress has been made but such hiccups are inevitable. I will visit the communities to see what measures need to be put in place to forestall future occurrence,” he said.

Shettima assured that the state government would provide free treatment to the victims and provide necessary support during their period of recuperation.

The governor also condoled with the families of those who lost their lives in the attack.

Meanwhile, the Police in Borno had confirmed 20 persons killed and 84 others wounded in the attack.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu, disclosed that five mutilated corpses of male suicide bombers were recovered and two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) vests were diffused by men of the command at the scene of the attack.

He said: “On 01/04/2018 at about 20:20 pm; Boko Haram terrorists in an attempt to infiltrate into Maiduguri through Bale Kura, Bale Shuwari, Jamine and Alkaramti villages in Jere local government area of the state, in the outskirts of Maiduguri detonated IEDs.

“They were promptly repelled by military and police reinforcement. In the process about 84 persons were injured and 20 others killed.”

Chukwu added that normalcy had been restored to the area and called on people to go about their lawful businesses.

CelebritiesYour Job Is Not Complete; Kate Henshaw Blasts Government Over Leah by 4Ebisco(op): 6:57pm On Apr 02, 2018
Nigerian actress Kate Henshaw is far from pleased with the current situation surrounding the only Christian Dapchi school girl Leah that is still in the den of Boko Haram.

The iconic actress has revealed that the work of the government is very incomplete if they fail to bring back Leah.

The actress went on to disagree with the idea of the federal Government planning to give amnesty to Boko Haram members; she said they have to pay penance to their wrong doing.

“I don’t think the government should grant amnesty to members of Boko Haram. Have they paid penance for the wrongs they have done? Are they repentant? They have not even been punished for what they have done. When you do the crime, you do the time.

They must be punished for what they have done first and then we can talk about amnesty. It is very sad that other kidnapped Dapchi children have been released except one.

The government should have pulled out all the stops to get that one last girl out to make sure that their release was wholesome because you cannot leave anyone behind. Every child, every citizen of this country deserves to move around freely without fear.

If one person is still being held, then your job is not complete, you have not done anything. Also, why is it that it is a Christian girl that was left behind? I would not want to go into the religious aspect because I don’t want to go into something that would be divisive. She is a young girl and a human being,” Kate Henshaw wrote.

A former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has declared that he is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The ex-Governor maintained that the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, being championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo is not a political party.

According to Duke, the Obasanjo coalition had members cutting across many political parties.

He spoke at public lecture organized by the Nigeria Movement for Positive Change, NPMC, in Lagos.

Duke pointed out that the coalition was only concerned with sensitizing Nigerians to rise up to the challenges facing the country.

The former Governor said, “Nigeria is like a dam, if that dam should burst, it would flood all of West Africa.

“Our population is more than half of West Africa and it is growing astronomically but our economic indices are not growing as fast, which is the challenge we have.

“As I speak to you, over three million people have registered with the coalition but it is not a political party.

“I am still a member of the PDP for instance; you can belong to any political party.

“All it is trying to do is similar to what NMPC is doing here to sensitize Nigerians to our present circumstance.”

PoliticsOkowa Grants Pardon To Five Prison Inmates, Commutes 30 On Death Row To Life Sen by 4Ebisco(op): 10:07am On Mar 29, 2018

The State Government has also approved the construction, rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of four roads in the capital territory.
The pardon was in the exercise of his Prerogative of Mercy under Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
A statement released from the Office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor, stated that the governor acted pursuant to powers vested on him in exercise of his powers of prerogative of mercy in the spirit of the Easter celebration and took into considerations the several international and local pleas including those from Amnesty International.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice explained that the governor acted in accordance to his constitutional powers based on the recommendations of the Seven-Man Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy headed by Chief Patrick Okpakpor that was inaugurated by the Delta Governor on March 30, 2017.

PoliticsObasanjo Slams Buhari For Not Signing Africa Free Trade Deal by 4Ebisco(op): 9:39am On Mar 28, 2018
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has decried the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the Africa Continental Free Trade Area agreement, expressing hope that he will change his mind before it is too late.

Obasanjo poured out his mind on the AfCFTA during a presidential panel, titled: ‘When Leaders Make History’ at the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday. He was joined by the President of Zimjo said, “That President Buhari didn’t sign the free trade agreement in Kigali is disappointing; I hope he signs it before it is too late.

“Egypt started the discussion on the formation of the Organisation of African Unity but didn’t conclude it and Nigeria took over. Nigeria was also central to the discussion of the free trade agreement, but I am surprised that the country withdrew from signing.”

The AfCFTA treaty is one of the flagship projects of the African Union Agenda 2063, and is aimed at creating a single continental market for goods and services, with free movement of business persons, investments and a single currency.

Also, the agreement commits countries to removing tariffs on 90 per cent of goods and to liberalise services, while items identified as sensitive, which make up the balance 10 per cent, will also be phased out later as tariff-free.

But the President, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Frank Jacobs, said the government’s enforcement mechanism in the area of enforcement of rules of origin needed to be clearly defined before local producers could support the agreement.

It is believed that the AfCFTA treaty would improve intra-African trade and enhance economic growth and sustainable development.

The Federal Government had delayed the signing of trnment had delayed the signing of the treaty to allow for more deliberations and input from stakeholders and had set up a committee on the issue before the President would sign the treaty.

Speaking on the need for increased youth and women participation in politics in Africa, Obasanjo, who zeroed in on Nigeria, stated, “In our own part of the world, we have not done enough in this regard. Since independence, we have never had any woman as president and VP; no woman has contested governorship election and won.

“In the coming dispensation, all organs of political parties should have 30 per cent slots for women, 30 per cent for the youth, and 40 per cent for the others.”

He said it was disheartening that the number of the women in the National Assembly was still very insignificant.

PoliticsHerdsmen: Ortom Reacts To Call For Declaration Of State Of Emergency In Benue by 4Ebisco(op): 10:06am On Mar 27, 2018
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State said the call for the declaration of a state of emergency in Benue and one other state by the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore was tantamount to punishing those states that have performed their legitimate constitutional responsibilities of enacting laws for good governance.

Ortom said, “The call is unrealistic, untenable and unacceptable because many other states across the six geopolitical zones of the country have been affected by similar crisis, sometimes at a greater magnitude than the two states, yet the call does not include them.”

The governor, in a statement issued by his media adviser, Tahav Agerzua, restated his call for the declaration of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore as a terrorist organisation, while also asking for the arrest and prosecution of their leaders for terrorism.

The governor was reacting to the call by the National President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, where he called for a declaration of state of emergency in Benue and Taraba states on account of crisis between farmers and herdsmen.

The governor said, “Incidentally, what Benue and Taraba states have in common is the enactment and implementation of ranches laws which prohibit open grazing.

“These laws were made in accordance with the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended, to curb incessant clashes between farmers and herders that had taken a huge toll on human lives and property in the two states.”

Ortom expressed concerns over the “failure of Police” to arrest the people, warning that “attributing the enactment of the law to non payment of workers’ salaries is untenable,” as several states with salary payment challenges have not resorted to the enactment of a similar law.

Politics2019: You Can’t Crush All Of Us – APC Guber Aspirant, Adol Awam Tells Umahi by 4Ebisco(op): 8:34pm On Mar 26, 2018
The governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Ebonyi state chapter, Prophet Adol Awam on Monday challenged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led administration in Ebonyi state that it cannot crush all APC contestants in the 2019 general election.

Awam, the General overseer of Eternal Light World Christian Church, made this known to journalists shortly after receiving the blessings and support of elders of Izzi land which comprises 3 LGAs at isiuke ancestral home, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

Recall that the governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Umahi had earlier this year threatened that any one who tried to terminate his second tenure bid will be smashed into ashes.

According to him: “anyone who tries us would be injured because if the person falls on us, he will be grinded into granite and if we fall on him, he will be grinded into ashes.”

The governorship aspirant warned that he will not tolerate the situation whereby thugs were used to threaten his supporters ahead of the forthcoming polls in the state.

“I’m deeply touched by the prayers of this elders. I’m a man that respects tradition, especially when it comes to believing in God. Elders like this, to me, they are like prophet of our time. Whatever they pronounced, stands. I feel that the whole journey is concluded and fulfilled.

“Now we have visited here, I don’t think there is any obstacle that will stand on our way. I want to be the governor of Ebonyi state and the elders of Izzi land have accepted my request. I am sure of picking the ticket of APC. They have blessed me for that.

“I do not see any challenge especially when confronting the PDP leadership, that is in place in Ebonyi. Nobody is custodian of violence, I say nobody. My problem now is not how to face the PDP government because I do not see them as a challenge.

“No one wants this government, I use this opportunity to advise and to say that criticism is good and I don’t hate to be criticized. I like people to criticize me but when somebody criticize you and you turn to attack him, this will show that the government is bad”, he said.

The general overseer noted that he was prepared for the governorship and cannot be afraid of the government in power in the state even on the faces of threat by anybody, and assured of his readiness to takeover power from the incumbent administration.

“Have you silenced us? Even if you kill me today, you have not stopped all of us, until good thing is done, the issue of using thuggery or not, we started from the grass root, we are not afraid of that. I started playing politics from ANPP, and all through my life, I have been a field man.

“I’m not afraid whether there will be use of thugs. When there is war, somebody must die but I know that the Lord we serve will not allow any member of my group to die.

“APC must take the government of Ebonyi state, we cannot be crushed, all of us, one of us must remain and takeover the government. Some people are coming out to say, if you crush us, other people must remain to takeover,” he stressed.

Earlier in a remark, Ugbala Clement said the reason they gave their blessing to the aspirant was as a result of marginalization the people of izzi land had suffered.

“We have blessed him and it will happen the way we have said it. And that is the culture of Izzi land, whatever you need and you come to us, we will pray for you so that God will go before you. We have been marginalized and now, if our own son gets there, he will help our people and develop Izzi land,” he stated.

PoliticsBuhari Is A Disaster, Bill Gates Spoke The Truth – Fani Kayode by 4Ebisco(op): 9:35am On Mar 24, 2018
Femi Fani-Kayode, Former Minister of Aviation has blasted President Muhammadu Buhari over Bill Gates’ statement on Nigeria’s economic plan.

Bill Gates at the expanded national economic council presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said that President Buhari’s economic recovery growth plan (ERGP) does not truly reflect the needs of Nigerians.

“The Nigerian government’s economic recovery and growth plan identify investing in our people as one of three strategic objectives. But the execution priorities don’t fully reflect people’s needs, prioritising physical capital over human capital,” Gates had said.

Fani-Kayode, reacting, called Buhari a disaster.

He advised the President to listen to the truth spoken by Bill Gates and address issues in the country.

The former minister stated these in a series of tweets.

He wrote “You invited Bill Gates to your Economic Council meeting and he told you the bitter truth and that things are not working the way they should.

“When your guest tells you the bitter truth you better sit up and listen. Gates needs nothing from you and he has no reason to lie. You are a disaster.”

Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.

Depression symptoms can vary from mild to severe and can include:

Feeling sad or having a depressed mood
Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
Changes in appetite — weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting
Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
Loss of energy or increased fatigue
Increase in purposeless physical activity (e.g., hand-wringing or pacing) or slowed movements and speech (actions observable by others)
Feeling worthless or guilty
Difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions
Thoughts of death or suicide
Symptoms must last at least two weeks for a diagnosis of depression.
