The University of Lagos is to screen its newly-admitted students for hard drugs, an official said on Wednesday in Lagos.

The university’s Principal Assistant Registrar, Communication Unit, Mrs Taiwo Oloyede, warned that the university would not hesitate to withdraw admission of new students who would test positive to hard drugs.

Oloyede spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to her, the screening is to ensure a drug-free academic community as well as promote peaceful co-existence.

She said that all newly-admitted students would undergo the screening before registration.

“This test is compulsory and will be administered on new students before they are allowed to go ahead with registration.

“Admission of any newly-admitted students who test positive to drug use shall be withdrawn.

“Our students must be seen to be good products not only of the institution, but the larger society.

“We want to ensure that we get students who will be willing to maintain peace, show leadership qualities and be law-abiding,” she said.

Oloyede told NAN that preparations for registration of new students admitted on merit had been concluded.

Sports / AFCON Qualifier: Fans Hail Eagles, Urge Rohr To Fortify Team by 4Ebiscoo: 3:07pm On Oct 17, 2018
Ebonyi football fans on Wednesday commended the Super Eagles’ 3-2 victory over the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday night in Sfax, Tunisia.

The fans expressed their satisfaction with the result, recorded by the Ahmed Musa-led team, in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki.

NAN reports that the Libyans decided to play the qualifier for the 2019 competition finals scheduled for Cameroon in Tunisia as a result of the ongoing civil war in their country.

The football enthusiasts, however, advised Coach Gernot Rohr to fortify the squad, by correcting the lapses noticed in the match in Tunisia ahead of the two remaining matches of the qualifiers against Seychelles and South Africa.

Chinedu Chukwugbo, a fan, said that with the victory in Tunisia, the coast appeared clearer for Nigeria’s flag to be hoisted at the AFCON in Cameroon in 2019, having missed out of the 2015 and 2017 editions of the competition.

“At the moment, the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the AFCON finals in Cameroon are brighter. The result of the match in Tunisia is a testimony that the team have improved tremendously under Rohr.”

Joel Igboke, a former Manager, Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium, Abakaliki, warned the team against complacency in its two remaining matches.

“Rohr has distinguished himself by retaining the same crop of players that featured in the first leg of the double header against Libya in Uyo on Saturday; this is good team-building and good for the development of football.

“The team should realise that Nigeria’s loss to South Africa in June 2017 in Uyo should be avenged because of national pride,” he said.

Silas Igwilo, players’ scout, however, advised Rohr to fortify deficient areas in the encounter in Tunisia.

“The goalkeeping department remains shaky with Francis Uzoho not performing to the expectations of football-loving Nigerians.

“He was fidgety and was culpable in both goals scored by the Libyans in Sfax, Tunisia; it was a repeat of his under- performance at the 2018 World Cup in Russia,” he said.

Chika Ajoku, the goalkeeper trainer, Samba Football Club, Enugu, advised Rohr to give Ikechukwu Ezenwa a chance to compete with Uzoho, in spite of being a home-based material.

“Ezenwa saved the country’s goalkeeping crisis when Carl Ikeme was incapacitated with leukemia during the Russia 2018 qualifiers; and the man performed creditably in the matches against Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia.

“Rohr will improve the team’s overall performances if Ezenwa is given a chance to man the Super Eagles goal post.

“This will put an end to insinuations that the coach has a soft spot for Uzoho, because he discovered him,” Ajoku said.

Mrs Chienyenwa Nwadike, a civil servant and football enthusiast, urged Nigerians to continue to support the team with prayers, to ensure Nigeria’s qualification for the AFCON final in Cameroon.

“The late Stephen Keshi-led Eagles won the 2013 AFCON, after missing the 2012 edition; and we should pray that the present team achieve such a feat,” Nwadike said.

Politics / 2019: You’re Atiku’s Errand Boy, Failed Governor – Buhari Group Attacks Tambuwal by 4Ebiscoo: 7:41am On Oct 17, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari support group, the Buhari Media Organization, BMO, has attacked the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, for saying that it would be suicidal if the President returns to power in 2019.

BMO said Tambuwal was just a “failed governor and errand boy.”

DAILY POST reports that Tambuwal had, on Monday, said that he would fight to end Buhari’s rule-by-proxy in 2019.

The group said that from the Governor’s speech, it was obvious that his frustrations after his unsuccessful outing as a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirant was beginning to manifest

The BMO assured Tambuwal that Buhari was in charge of the government.

The group’s statement was signed by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju, and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke.

The statement reads, “President Buhari is fully in charge and in control of the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and anyone who is in doubt of this is in grave error.

“We wish to note that Governor Tambuwal has not only failed to serve the people of Sokoto State diligently in the past three and half years, but has, in his utterances, displayed crass ignorance on sensitive national issues.

“Perhaps the clearest evidence of Tambuwal’s failure as a politician and governor is that he has turned himself into an errand boy of his fellow contestant, Atiku Abubakar and the opposition PDP.

“We, therefore, advise the Sokoto State Governor to stop deluding himself about his party defeating President Buhari in the 2019 presidential election as Nigerians have already taken note of Buhari’s commitment towards solving the myriad of problems confronting the country, and they are poised to re-elect him as president in 2019.”

Politics / 2019: President Buhari Speaks On Plan For General Election by 4Ebiscoo: 7:13pm On Oct 16, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the forthcoming general elections will be free and fair.

The President assured Nigerians and the international community that the election will usher the country into another clime of maturity, peace and unity.

According to a statement forwarded to DAILY POST by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari said this when he received Letters of Credence from four ambassadors at the State House.

The Ambassadors include Yutaka Kikuta of the Peoples’ Republic of Japan.

Buhari pointed out that the country’s political and electoral institutions have continued to evolve in strength, skill and experience after each election.

“We are currently at the threshold of another general election and after five general elections in the country since 1999, we expect that the 2019 elections will be free and fair.

“The political system is good and if people work hard they will succeed,’’ the President said.

President Buhari also said the increase in number of political parties that will field candidates in 2019 elections indicates more democratic consciousness among Nigerians and willingness to serve the country.

Receiving Letter of Credence from the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Alexey Shebarshin, the President noted that discussions on reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, partnerships in agriculture and other bilateral interests in trade and economic development will be sustained, commending the country for always standing by Nigeria.

“We have opened discussions on the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, and we will continue,’’ President Buhari added.

The President told the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Richardo Guerra De Araujo, that the historical ties between both countries and the shared potentials for growth will be further explored, with strong emphasis on economic and social development.

He said the number of Nigerians in Brazil already provide a strong reason for deeper and richer discussions for both countries.

Receiving the Letter of Credence of the Ambassador of United Arab Emirates, Fahad Al Taffaq, President Buhari assured him that Nigeria remains committed to strengthening the bilateral relationship that has existed between both countries for many years.

The President said the courtesies extended to Nigerians in the United Arab Emirates was commendable, assuring the envoy that his administration will continue to strengthen business and trade relations between both countries.

In his remarks, the Ambassador of Japan said his country remained grateful for Nigeria’s concern and support during the flooding that devastated the country, promising to work hard to further enhance relations in technology, agriculture and trade.

The Ambassadors of Russia, Brazil and United Arab Emirates assured the president that they will work hard to ensure improved relations in key sectors of the economy, while wishing Nigeria the best in the forthcoming elections.

Education / Enhancing Literacy Through ‘jolly Phonics’ by 4Ebiscoo: 6:34am On Oct 14, 2018
A new World Bank report released recently says that only about 20 per cent of young Nigerian adults, who have completed primary education, can read. HENRY TYOHEMBA, in this report, takes a look at the 21st century method of teaching reading in early grade levels called ‘Jolly Phonics,’ as a way to improve reading skills in Nigeria.

o have a strong foundation in English literacy nowadays is believed to be a very fundamental prerequisite for children to survive and succeed, both in their educational and social lives.

Such has been a major issue with the Nigerian child as majority of them head into secondary schools with the future uncertain.

One of the most effective tactics for enhancing children’s early reading and literacy skills is through Jolly Phonics, a multi-sensory synthetic phonics method that gets children reading and writing from the early age.

This means that children are taught letter sounds with the right tools used to decode the English language. When reading a word, they recognise the letters and blend together the respective sounds.

Despite the popularity and its effectiveness, there are still factors responsible for the absence of the strategy, namely lack of teachers’ knowledge and some schools yet to accommodate it into their system.

Jolly phonics, which teaches children how to read and write using synthetic phonics, is widely recognised as the most effective way to teach children to read and write in English. The result of this famous method of teaching led to phonics becoming central to the UK curriculum, which is also one of the worlds’ most advanced, educationally.

LEADERSHIP Sunday checks revealed that most of the schools in the urban centres have embraced the modern method and it is having a drastic positive impact on the children as most can now read efficiently even in primary two.

Whereas, some schools dwelling in remote areas are not likely to get familiarised with the method, this however, calls for a need to install this into the curriculum in order to make it compulsory for all the schools to adopt this method of teaching.

In one of such, the principal of Santus Lumen Christy College, Abuja, Isaac Moji, revealed that with Jolly Phonics, His son in primary three, Senator, can read perfectly like an adult.

The World Bank report further warned that there is a looming learning crisis in global education, pointing out that schooling without learning was not just a wasted development opportunity, but also a great injustice to children and young people worldwide.

There is no fact denying that those children, who achieve a good start in the first few years of reading are very likely to have accelerated progress in their attainment throughout school as they engage with the curriculum. They are also very likely to achieve the skills valued by employers.

Moreover, there is no doubt that reading can change lives and can create opportunities which may otherwise be denied. Reading is a powerful, life-enhancing skill which is the entitlement of every child.

The new synthetic phonics system, which is being embraced by over 100 countries worldwide, is a method of teaching reading that ensures virtually all children can learn to read quickly and skillfully.

Children are taught the correspondences between sounds (Phonemes) and letters. They identify and blend different letter sounds and letter combinations together to make a word. Through this, children take the first important steps in learning to read. They can also use this knowledge to begin to spell new words they hear.

The executive secretary, National Commission For Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Muhammad Babba Aliyu, recently said the commission is leveraging on enshrining the internationally recognised method of teaching reading known as Jolly phonics in the NCCE curriculum.

He said this while speaking recently in Abuja at the international symposium tagged, ‘the Future of Teaching Early Grade Literacy in Nigeria,’ organised in partnership with Universal Learning Sloutions (ULS) to develop a first class pre-service teacher training in Nigeria.

He said it is of a great disservice to the Nigerian child that after primary school, he still remains illiterate. Represented by the director of academic, Mr Vitalis Uji, the NCCE boss said, ‘Now that submissions are being collated in preparation for NCE national review workshop on languages, my desk officer and the participants will leverage on the insights espoused in this workshop to ensure that this internationally recognised method of teaching reading is enshrined in the NCCE curriculum.”

Recently, commenting on the need to embrace this Universal method of learning, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) said that the federal government has invested about N2 billion on the introduction of jolly phonics teaching method in schools across the country.

The fund, according to the commission, was to provide funds for the state government for implementation of the jolly phonics projects in schools by UBEC under its teacher professional development fund.

The public relations officer of UBEC, Mr Ossom Ossom, said the landmark achievements were recorded through partnership with the UK-based educational publisher-Jolly Learning Ltd, and the not-for-profit organisation, Universal Learning Solutions.

According to him, through the partnership, on the Jolly phonics project, over 50,000 teachers in public schools across 31 states in the country have been trained and have reached approximately 3.5 million children.

He further added that, the result from the beneficiary states have highlighted how children, taught by Jolly phonics trained teachers to read and write, were significantly above those taught by teachers who have not been exposed to the jolly phonics method.

On his part, the central executive officer (CEO) of Jolly Phonics, Mr Gary Foxcroft, said the method of learning was introduced to Nigeria in 2012 to help children to read and write as many are leaving primary school without knowing how to read.

According to him, “We are looking at how we can ensure teachers have systematic synthetic phonics and resources to help children to read and write in order to ensure that all the children are learning to be literate.”

It is however, of importance to note that most of the states in Nigeria are wholly embracing this new method of teaching in order to boost the standard of literacy in the country.

Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) for instance, have recently partnered to deliver intensive training to over 500,000 teachers and dedicated government officials in Jolly phonics.

There is need for other states to key into this to save the future of our children.

Politics / Youths Burn Down Houses Over Election Results In Plateau by 4Ebiscoo: 8:23am On Oct 12, 2018
Some Irate youths on Thursday razed down four houses in Langtang South Local Government of Plateau State in protest of the outcome of local government while election results.

The incident happened after the youths became angry over the outcome of the Wednesday local government elections in Plateau.

They said that the results of the polls were not declared at the local government collation centre.

A top security personnel told NAN that the youths, who were waiting for the local government Returning Officer to collate results brought from the wards, got enraged when Governor Simon Lalong announced on Radio that the winners would be sworn in by 2 p.m.

“They were shocked when a candidate they claimed did not win the polls was announced as the winner,” the source said.

According to him, the protest began peacefully with the youths chanting war songs and accusing the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) of “cheating”, as they marched through the streets.

“But, the protest turned violent when some youths decided to attack the houses of those they suspected had connived with PLASIEC officials to `steal’ their mandate.

“Within a very short while, three houses belonging to some prominent persons and an official of PLASIEC were burnt down by the irate youths,” the security personnel, who craved anonymity, told NAN. ’

He identified houses burnt as belonging to Mr Andrew Sambo, the Electoral Officer that conducted the election in the area, and one Mr Jackson Ponzhi, a prominent politician.

Also burnt was the residence of Mr Nicholas Vongsin, a former chairman of Langtang South Management Committee, as well as the local government chamber where results of the elections from the wards were to be collated and announced.

Speaking on the development, Mr Domle Simon, PDP Vice Chairman, Plateau South, blamed the state government for the destruction recorded in the area.

“The governor should have allowed the electoral officers to collate the results. The decision to swear in those that clearly lost the election was an invitation to chaos and anarchy.

“I am almost 70 years old and have been in this town all my life, but I have never seen anything like this,” he said.

He advised the state government to always be mindful of the effects of their actions on those they have sworn to lead, saying that leaders should always remember that they would give account of their actions in the hereafter.

Confirming the incident, Mr Terna Tyopev, spokesman of the Police Command in Plateau, said that he heard about the crisis in the area but has yet to receive details.

“I have not been briefed by the Divisional Police Officer in the area. If I get the details, I will call you,” he said.

Politics / FG, Labour Disagree Over N30, 000 Minimum Wage by 4Ebiscoo: 4:13am On Oct 11, 2018
The federal government and the organised labour may be headed for another industrial crisis after both sides yesterday disagreed on the subject of N30,000 new minimum wage.

The minister of labour and productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, had yesterday denied media reports that the federal government had agreed on N30, 000 minimum wage with organised labour.

However, the organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the United Labour Congress (ULC), yesterday issued a statement in which it insisted that the tripartite committee negotiating the new wage had concluded its work, adopted the figure through a formal motion.

In a statement jointly signed NLC president, Ayuba Wabba; TUC president, Bala Bobboi Kaigama, and ULC president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, the unions threatened to resume its strike after it accused the federal government of “manipulating and bending of facts” to delay the process of passing a new minimum wage.

Ngige, who made the denial after the federal executive council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja, stated that negotiations were still ongoing and that the parties involved were yet to come to a consensus, adding that state governors and all principal actors have to be carried along.

He further explained that during negotiations with organised labour the figures were adjusted as the labour unions adjusted their figure and came down to N30,000 per month, while the organised private sectors also adjusted their figure from the earlier proposed N30,000 to N25,000.

Noting that governors had their own figure, which was different from the figure of the federal government, Ngige said both the federal government and state governors’ figures were also presented.

He, however, noted that the cardinal principle of wage fixing mechanism under the International Labour Congress (ILO) was the ability to pay.

According to him, under convention 131, the fixing mechanism says that there must be consensual agreement.

“So we have a figure of the federal government and the state governments have theirs. The state government figure at the last time was N20,000, the federal government had a figure of N24,000 and that was where we all stood.

“This negotiation took into account this irreducible offers on the different governments but we could not arrive at a consensus. Even though we adjourned our meeting and said we will put up a report that will reflect this position, we are still continuing to discuss informally to see if we can arrive at a common figure,” Ngige explained.

The minister added that the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission had done its work and presented it to the economic management team, adding that discussions were ongoing.

“This information becomes very pertinent because I saw all your papers, the dailies yesterday awash with the news that we have all agreed on N30,000; that is not true. The federal government has not agreed on N30,000.

“The federal government is also carrying the states along with them because a lot of the workers are in the states and it’s a very sensitive matter; we cannot, because the issue of minimum wage is item 34 and an exclusive legislation by the federal government.

“So it’s a bi-focal arrangement. The federal government, through the National Assembly, cannot go and fix an amount which the states will find difficult to pay, resulting maybe in the retrenchment of workers in the states,” the minister said, noting that President Buhari had always reiterated that no worker should be retrenched during his administration.

“No worker will be denied his promotion for as long as this administration is on and recruitment to replace people who have retired or people who are dead should continue to be done so that we face the issue of unemployment and do what we can through such recruitment. So this is the situation,” he added.

But contrary to Ngige’s position, the Labour leaders have insisted that they have an agreement with the federal government on N30,000 new minimum wage.

According to the statement by the workers’ unions, this was after a thorough debate of a report from the sub-committee figure, chaired by Sen Ngige himself.

The statement reads in part, “the Sub-committee worked on the basis of a figure proposed by the federal government, figures proposed by a number of state governments as well as proposals submitted by the organised private sector and organised labour.”

They contend that the committee formally adjourned its sitting with a decision that a date will be communicated to members for the signing of the report and submission of same to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The organised labour expressed shock at the statement credited to the Labour minister, describing it as “unfortunate and sad.”

Politics / APC Group Calls For Sack Of National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole by 4Ebiscoo: 3:31pm On Oct 10, 2018
Factional group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday took to the streets of Calabar, the Cross River State capital, demanding for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The group accused Oshiomhole of refusing to recognize the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Usani, as the governorship candidate of the party in the state, despite a court order to that effect.

Federal Commissioner of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Cross River State, Mr Sylvester Nsa, regretted the action of the National Chairman, saying, “If he continues, he would destroy the party”.

Nsa who was speaking on behalf of the protesters said, “The people of APC in Cross River have gone out to protest against impunity, injustice and total and blatant refusal to respect court ruling by the national chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole.

“His attitude in recent times has made us to understand that Oyegun, the former chairman, was a saint and angel. Therefore, the people of Cross River State are angry that Oshiomhole has brought impunity in Cross River State and not only in the state, but the action of Adams Oshiomhole will also destroy APC in Nigeria.

“The people of APC across the country, rise up and tell Oshiomhole that he cannot destroy APC, therefore in Cross River State, Usani is right. Usani is the answer. No Usani no election. We want the whole country to know that Usani built the party. He nurtured the party. He is the leader of the party. He stands to protect the interest of the common men and that is why, the people of APC in Cross River have stood their grounds that without Usani, there is no APC in the state.

“I stand here as one of the leaders in the party in the state to declare that Adams Oshiomole should be called to order. This is a man that is a beneficiary of court order. He became a governor because of court order and today Oshiomhole does not want to honour court order. Therefore he must be called to order.

“I call on the judiciary to stand up otherwise; the action of Oshiomhole is a total play down on the integrity of the judiciary. It is an insult to the judiciary; it is an insult to democracy, so we call on Oshiomhole to leave Cross River State alone. He must leave us alone, otherwise, he would come to Cross River and walk alone because the people are angry and they have spoken that they want Usani.

“If it was court that made Oshiomhole a governor, he must respect court order. He is a man of impunity. He should resign otherwise if he continues, he will destroy this party,” Nsa said.

The Director-General of the Usani for Governor Campaign Organization, Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham, also said, “This march is a clear message to the leader of this party, which is the President, that Oshiomole is toying with the election of the President. He is toying with the soul of APC. We will not accept impunity. Oshiomhole is not above the law. He must act within the confines of the law. If he does not do that, then we would revolt.

“This impunity must stop. Nigeria is a democratic nation and we expect him to function within the precepts of the law. That is our position. We cannot be subverted on intimidated. We stand resolute behind Pastor Usani Uguru Usani. He is the leader of our party. He is the governorship candidate of our party and the man who has built this party.

“Some people have been sent on secondment from the other side to come and hijack this party. We would not allow that. They were part of the destruction of Cross River State for 20 years and now they are coming here to tell us they believe in the change. They are not part of the change.

“They have no change to offer us. They are here on secondment. We don’t want them. They are not our candidate, we didn’t vote for them. Let them return to where they came from. In APC we work for change and Oshiomhole must work within the confines of that change. If peaceful protest is being resisted, we would rise up. Cross River State belongs to us. Let him respect the law.

“We need change in the state and the only man who can offer that change is Pastor Usani. He personifies light. Darkness cannot dethrone darkness. Oshiomhole must leave Cross River alone. That is what we are saying and what we stand for,” he stated.

Politics / PDP Senators Warn APC, Lawan Over Plot To Impeach Saraki by 4Ebiscoo: 6:37pm On Oct 09, 2018
Senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have warned their colleagues in the All Progressives Congress (APC) against plot to impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Senate Minority leader, Biodun Olujimi, said in an interview yesterday that Nigerians should hold Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, responsible should crisis erupts in the upper chamber. The call became necessary following the tension in the upper chamber as it convenes from its long break. Lawan was reported to have threatened that the APC senators would remove Saraki, through an impeachment process when it reopens for legislative activities today.

Olujimi said: “The Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan, should not cause tension and problem in the Senate. He should not promise the APC what they cannot deliver. “Nigerians should hold him responsible if the Senate is unable to sit, because the leadership of the Senate is not by party affiliation, but through an election by all the senators.

“Lawan should be reminded that the election of the present presiding officers was done, even when he was not present. He should be reminded that responsible senators who attended the inauguration of the Senate, as announced by President Muhammadu Buhari, elected the presiding officers.”

Olujimi urged Lawan, as the Senate leader, to be conversant with the procedure for the removal of presiding officers. She declared: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Senate is solidly behind the presiding offers, and we will resist any attempt that would offset the calm situation in the Senate.

“The Senate leader should please note that we are returning to handle all outstanding issues and should be held responsible, if we are not able to accomplish them.” She asked that, as one of the principal officers of the Senate, Lawan should reframe from beating drums of war that would do no one any good.“We have resolved as senators of the Federal Republic to face our duties squarely, and pray that no one distracts us. The unity of the Senate is more important than anybody’s inordinate ambition,” she added.

Politics / FG To Announce New Minimum Wage This Week by 4Ebiscoo: 4:05am On Oct 09, 2018
The federal government will this week announce the figure of the new minimum wage for workers in the country. President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, who disclosed this yesterday, said this followed the completion of negotiations by the tripartite committee negotiating new wages for workers.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, he noted that the committee has completed its assignment and is ready for onward submission of its report to President Muhammadu Buhari. According to him, the committee used the two days following the suspension of the strike action by organised labour to reconvene and deliberate on a new minimum wage figure that is acceptable to all employers of labour in the country.

Wabba said, “I want to assure workers that all has been concluded and will be passed for signing within the week. I also want to appreciate the Organised Private Sector, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) for their resolve to pay the new minimum wage when it is signed into law”. The NLC president however refused to disclose the figure arrived at by the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage. Wabba said the presidency would make it public after deliberation at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting.

LEADERSHIP recallS that organised labour had two years ago demanded for an increase of the minimum wage from its current N18,000 to N56,000. During the submission of memorandum to the tripartite committee negotiating the new minimum wage, the workers later increased the figure to N65,000. Following a series of setbacks, President Buhari in November 2017 inaugurated a tripartite committee to commence negotiations for a national minimum wage.

Celebrities / I Can Never Lose Weight Because Of A Man – Halima Abubakar by 4Ebiscoo: 8:44am On Oct 08, 2018
Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar got tongues wagging when she took to IG a few hours ago to share a photo if herself looking trimmer.

The actress got many talking about her weight and has now addressed it in an interview with Sunday Scoop.

In her words:

In a chat with Saturday Beat, the actress noted that she was not bothered by people’s opinion of her trimmed physique. She explained how she was able to shed some weight within a period of one month.

“A man can never make me slim down. A woman should lose weight when it is necessary, especially for her health’s sake. I feel it is the business of those that are bashing me because I am trying to be healthy for myself and not for anybody. I do not care what they are saying about (my) losing weight or not.

“They do not expect me to be ‘thick’ forever, do they? I recently started this weight loss regimen about a month ago. I reduced what I ate and I was able to achieve this weight loss.

“Now I eat a lot of vegetables and take a lot of juice; everything I eat has to be nurturing. I used to love pounded yam, but I stopped eating all that. Now I prefer to take carrots. Also, I was on a ketogenic diet, it worked for me but it is not for everybody.”

He noted that no amount of pressure on him will make his defect from the ruling party.

“I was among the founders of this party, I was in Lagos, Nasarawa states for meetings before we gave birth to the APC, therefore no amount of pressure will make me to leave the party.

Politics / APC Primaries: Party Supporters Clash In Lagos by 4Ebiscoo: 7:20am On Oct 06, 2018
Violence erupted in some parts of Ikorodu on Friday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted its state house of assembly primaries, among others in the state.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who monitored the primary in the area reports that disagreement between supporters of two contenders in the state assembly race, led to disturbances in some areas, with shops looted and property destroyed.

Disagreements among supporters of aspirants disrupted the peace temporarily in Ward F, Grammar School, and Italewa Ward, with gunshots being fired into the air, leaving people scampering to safety at around 1.30p.m.

Some shops were also vandalised and property destroyed by hoodlums who took advantage of the problem to loot around Ota Ona Junction, in the local government area.

The Area Commander, Ikorodu, ACP Amadu Dankasa told NAN that he deployed his men to all the strategic hot zones where the election would be taking place to ensure peace.

The area commander warned supporters of contestants to maintain peace, warning that anybody caught would face the law.

“The problem has been surmounted now, but anyone arrested will be seriously dealt with,” Dankasa told NAN shortly after.

NAN reports that officers of Operation Awatse joined the police to restore normalcy to the area and a security officer who sought anonymity said that two persons had been arrested.

In Badagry, Police and Nigeria Army vehicles were seeing patrolling major streets to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that five aspirants are eying the Lagos State House of Assembly Badagry constituency 1 seat, and contesting fly the party’s flag.

They are Mr Olawale Yahaya, Mr Olufemi Hunsu, Mr Babatunde Mesewaku, Mr Bonu Solomon and the incumbent Hon Ibrahim Layode.

NAN correspondent that monitored the exercise in some areas reports that there was high turn out of APC members at Sand fill Marina Street voting centre where Layode and Yahaya were expected to vote.

The APC electoral officers came around noon and appealed to members to queue behind their candidates.

Meanwhile, there was confusion when the party electoral officer started counting members who were standing behind their preferred aspirants and disagreement arose over the manner in which it was being done.

This resulted to a fight among the supporters at the venue.

The Badagry Divisional Police Officer, Mr Samson Akhiromen, appealed to the party men to allow peace to reign, telling them they are one family.

Akhiromen told NAN that his officers and other security agencies were fully on ground to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

The DPO said that he had gone round other centres and voting was going on peacefully there. (NAN)

Politics / PDP Presidential Primary: How Wike Is Working With Buhari To Destroy Party – Ade by 4Ebiscoo: 5:20pm On Oct 04, 2018
A former New Media Director of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Deji Adeyanju has alleged that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike is a mole in the party.

Adeyanju, a co-convener of OurMumuDonDo alleged that Wike was working with Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari to secretly destroy PDP.

In a statement he personally signed and confirmed to DAILY POST, Adeyanju claimed that Wike met with Kyari and signed an agreement to ensure that PDP produce a weak candidate during Saturday’s presidential primary election in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The statement titled, “Wike is the Mole in PDP,” Adeyanju highlighted reasons to back up his allegations against Wike.

The statement reads, “As promised, I will now tell you how Governor Wike is working with Buhari and his men for second term. Wike had constantly met with the former DSS DG, Lawan Daura and in July 2017, he signed an agreement with the former DSS DG in the presence of Chief of Staff Abba Kyari.

“Wike is extremely close to the Chief of Staff to the president and has secretly met with the President on numerous occasions on supporting him for a second term, before and after the agreement was signed. Wike is the biggest mole in the PDP.

“As agreed, Wike was mandated to support the emergence of a weak candidate for the PDP against president Buhari in the general election. In return, Rotimi Amaechi will engineer a crisis in Rivers APC and make the party weak in the State. FG will not interfere in Rivers election.

“Wike alleged the desperation by some PDP presidential aspirants but he’s the one who is desperate.

“He was desperate to produce Sherrif
He was desperate to produce Secondus
He’s desperate over PH venue for the PDP convention
He’s desperate to produce a presidential candidate.

“10 out the 12 presidential aspirants opposed PH as convention venue, but Wike’s puppet -Secondus connived with Delta governor who is Wike’s friend to take the convention to PH against objections just to pave the way for the manipulation of the convention in Wike’s domain.

“The BoT of the party opposed taking the convention to PH since Wike has a vested interest & is supporting a candidate. But Secondus still took the convention to PH on the instruction of Wike the mole.
Today, Wike is threatening the party because God has exposed his plans.

“Wike the mole is trying to play the same game Asiwaju Tinubu played in 2011 with Jonathan when he signed an agreement to produce a weak opposition candidate -Nuhu Ribadu against the then president but God has exposed him.

“Almost all the presidential aspirants know the agreement Wike has signed with president Buhari. The party should not beg Wike the mole. They should allow him to do his worse. Energy should be dissipated on how to produce a strong presidential candidate who can defeat Buhari.

“The Board of Trustees and all other organs of the party must save PDP from Wike the mole. The naive supporters of Wike always claim that He is the one that has been funding the party since 2015. One must ask how?
Wike could not fund Edo, Ondo, Anambra, Ekiti, Osun, etc.

“Wike the mole only funds the few hungry people in the party who run to Rivers State everytime they are broke. Wike cannot fund a presidential election. He can not even fund elections in Rivers State and his next-door neighbour Akwa Ibom in 2019.

“The recent shaking up of Wike by EFCC with the arrest of Zenith Bank GMD over N117bn suspicious bank withdrawals by Wike is to put him in line after there were fears that he wanted to rescind on the agreement.

“Wike’s arrogance and the way he threatens the party and its leaders publicly and privately comes from the fact that he has stolen Rivers State funds in his custody.

“If the opposition like, let them be wise, if not: Na dem go SUFFER.”

Politics / Buratai Reveals Those Sponsoring Armed Militia In Jos by 4Ebiscoo: 12:18pm On Oct 04, 2018
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has revealed those sponsoring armed ethnic militia groups in Jos, the capital of Plateau state.

Buratai said the armed ethnic militia groups in Plateau State were supported and sponsored by elites or elders of the state.

Buratai disclosed this on Wednesday during the burial of three soldiers who were killed during the violence that rocked the state’s troubled Barkin Ladi Local Government Area at the Maxwell Khobe Military Cemetery at 3 Division Headquarters, Rukuba Jos.

Buratai, who was represented by the Operation Safe Haven Commander, Major-General Augustine Agundu, said, “It is evident that there exist armed ethnic militia groups sponsored or supported by some elites and elders who deploy the misguided youths into committing the worst heinous crimes.

“There is certainly no constitutional provision that allows civilians to bear firearms but their possession has become a well sort-out vocation here on the Plateau.”

Expressing regrets over the death of CPL Effiong Mbuotidem, he said: “Human dignity has lost its value on the Plateau.

“The troops of OPSH like all service personnel are officially detailed to Plateau State to perform the duties upon which they swore an oath to serve the nation.”

Frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential aspirant, Senator David Mark has urged delegates to the national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to vote for him in the interest of unity, stability and prosperity of the nation.

Senator Mark told party faithful in his Otukpo, Benue state country home today, that the peace and unity of Nigeria supersedes any other consideration.

He said that Nigeria had gone through avoidable turbulent times in the last few years, pointing out that only a man with the requisite knowledge, experience and passion for the country like him can salvage the situation.

Senator Mark stated that he had a clear road map to revamp the economy within two years and also halt the intractable security challenges if voted into office.

“The situation in the country more than ever before demands ready hands, stable character and commitment to the ideals of nation hood. I am committed to the sanctity of our unity. We must restore the trust and confidence in our people. We all have a stake in Nigeria. We have no other place to call ours”, Senator Mark stressed.

He reminded the delegates to vote wisely at the convention saying “I will be with you and serve the nation diligently. I will be there for you. I will not let you down. I will be the last man standing“.

Senator Mark stated that his record of service in various parts of Nigeria over the years put him in a better stead to serve the nation creditably, reiterating “I am the bridge Nigeria needs now. I will be the bridge between the North and South and between the old and young”.

The former President of the Senate added that he possesses the requisite Executive and Legislative experiences to lead Nigeria to prosperity and restore the trust and respect of the international community.

Politics / APC Primary Will Not Hold – Gov Yari by 4Ebiscoo: 8:52am On Oct 02, 2018
Zamfara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in the state would not hold as scheduled.

He said the exercise would be suspended indefinitely unless the party’s National Working Committee followed the documented guidelines for the conduct of the exercise.

Addressing a press conference in Gusau on Monday, Yari told the committee constituted by the national headquarters to act on some infractions surrounding the conduct of the exercise.

He said: “As a leader of the party in the state and the chief security officer of the state, I’m telling all the stakeholders that the election slated for tommorow 2nd of October will not hold and we don’t know when it will hold.

“The committee sent by the stakeholders has grossly violated the 20-page document containing the party’s guidelines for the election, therefore there would be no election until the committee is ready to work with the document,” he added.

Governor Yari noted that the guidelines said that only a registered member of the party is eligible to vote and the party ward chairman and his secretary should participate in the process but the the committee jetisonned the provision for reason best known to them.

“I am one of the founding fathers of this party and I worked hard for its success. There is going to be a bloodshed tomorrow if the election is held in that way and and I’m the one to provide security for the peaceful conduct of the exercise,” he said.

Religion / 2019: What God Showed Me Concerning Nigeria, Another Civil War – Olumba Olumba by 4Ebiscoo: 8:20am On Sep 28, 2018
Founder of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, BCS, Olumba Olumba Obu, has revealed what God showed him concerning Nigeria and another civil war in the country.

Olumba, who spoke in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa, ahead of the centenary celebration of manifestation of the order, Olumba Obu, said God told him there will not be another civil war in the country.

He said the centenary torch which would be lighted in Yenagoa would herald peace, prosperity and development to Bayelsa State.

He said that when the torch was lighted in Port Harcourt, Rivers State it halted the bloodletting that would have occurred during the local government elections.

“The plan of God as far as Nigeria is concerned is a mystery only known to him. I cannot tell you whether there would be crisis or not or whether Nigerians would kill themselves.

“One thing that he, however, made clear is that Nigeria would not experience a Civil War.

“During the Orkar Coup, he said that was going to be the last military coup in Nigeria and that there would never be a successful coup in Nigeria.

“He told us to go to Port Harcourt; Rivers State to light the torch and that there would be no crisis.

“On the 2019, our father is not a pastor, a general overseer or prophet who starts predicting what would happen or who would win.

“What is going to be come of Nigeria in 2019 is best known to God and he has not made it known to any of us.”

Politics / BREAKING: Benue Government Drags EFCC, UBA, Fidelity Banks To Court by 4Ebiscoo: 2:20pm On Sep 27, 2018
The Governor Samuel Ortom-led Benue State Government has dragged Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and two commercial banks before the Federal High Court, Makurdi, the state capital over the recent freezing of its accounts.

The banks are United Bank for Africa, UBA, and Fidelity Bank.

The state government through the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice is demanding that the court declares that the EFCC acted against the law when it directed the banks to freeze its accounts.

The State Government is also praying the court to make a declaration that by freezing the said accounts, EFCC denied the government the right to operate and transact on the affected accounts.

The suit also seeks the verdict of the court to the effect that a state government’s account maintained with any bank or financial institution in Nigeria does not fall within the class of bank accounts liable to be frozen by EFCC.

Another relief sought by the Benue State Government is an order of perpetual injunction restraining the EFCC or its agents from freezing accounts held in UBA and Fidelity Bank or any other bank. The State Government is also demanding N30,000,000,000 from the defendants as damages suffered during the periods the accounts were frozen.

The case comes up on October 8 this year for hearing.

It will be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on the 7th of August, 2018, ordered the freezing of Benue State Government’s accounts in UBA and Fidelity banks; a decision that adversely affected government business for some days.

Politics / Osun Rerun: How Buhari Sent Fayemi Back To Nigeria To Meet Omisore Ahead Of Elec by 4Ebiscoo: 10:24am On Sep 26, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly instructed the Governor-Elect of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to return to Nigeria over the Osun governorship rerun election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission ((INEC) will Thursday conduct supplementary election in four local governments.

Fayemi, who accompanied Buhari on his trip to the United Nations General Assembly, was asked to come back home to meet with governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

The sole agenda of the meeting was to seek his support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.

Omisore is popular in areas where the election would hold especially at Garage Olode in Ife South Local Government Area where his father, Oba Olajide Omisore, is the traditional ruler.

On Tuesday, Fayemi visited Omisore in Ile Ife to woo him ahead of the rerun holding in seven polling units in four local government areas of Osun State on Thursday.

Omisore also met with APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, Reps Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, Governors of Jigawa (Muhammad Badaru), Oyo (Abiola Ajimobi), Kano (Umar Ganduje), Ogun (Ibikunle Amosun), Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, among other top chieftains.

A source close to Fayemi told Punch that the discussion was fruitful.

The source said, “Dr. Kayode Fayemi went to discuss with Senator Omisore in Ife today. The meeting was not unconnected with the Osun rerun poll.

“Dr. Fayemi travelled to the US with President Buhari to attend the UN General Assembly and it was Buhari that asked him to return home to hold a meeting with Omisore on the matter.

“One vote is very important in this election, so every vote is important and that is the reason for the visit.”

DAILY POST recalls that Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, had on Monday visited Omisore to seek his support for PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke.

Politics / Osun Rerun: Do Not Be Afraid To Vote – Adeleke Begs Electorate by 4Ebiscoo: 4:56pm On Sep 25, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the Osun State governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has appealed to the electorates not to be afraid to vote for him on Thursday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had on Saturday declared Osun election inconclusive after the difference between the two leading parties, the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, was lower than the number of the votes cancelled.

The Senator in a recent video appreciated Osun electorates for voting for him in the Saturday’s election.

He, however, called on them to persevere and ensure they come out enmasse again on Thursday to vote for him..

“Thank you Osun people for putting APC to shame despite all their powers.

“Do not be tired, do not be afraid to vote again and come out in numbers on Thursday.

Politics / Osun Decides: Adeleke Finally Breaks Silence On Inconclusive Election by 4Ebiscoo: 7:45am On Sep 24, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the inconclusive governorship election in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has thanked electorate in the state for their kind support in Saturday’s governorship poll.

Adeleke led the race with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than that of Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.

The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where voting were cancelled.

Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.

But, Adeleke in a statement he personally signed on Sunday; said he was honoured to have won considerable votes across all local governments of the state despite the “blackmail” during electioneering campaign.

He, however, appealed to the people to rededicate themselves to the ‘struggle, adding that ‘the tyrants can be forced to submit to the will of the people.

The statement reads, “I sent my appreciation through this medium to Osun voters who find me worthy of their votes. Your votes humbled me and further strengthen my resolve to truly serve our people.

“Despite all the blackmails and persecution, you stand by me, you voted for me and you defended your votes. You adopted me as the rallying point of the redemption movement. Words cannot express the depth of my appreciation.

“We will get to the promised land. It started well and it will end in praise to our dear God. Let us rededicate ourselves to the struggle. You have proved that with determination, the most powerful tyrant can be forced to submit to the will of the people. I appreciate you all.”

Celebrities / Nollywood Star, Anita Joseph Speaks On Possibility Of Acting Porn by 4Ebiscoo: 8:24am On Sep 23, 2018
Nollywood star, Anita Joseph has stated that she will never accept a role in a porn movie.

Speaking with Vanguard, the beautiful actress said it was a taboo for her to engage in such act.

“God forbid,” she said when asked if she could take up a role in a porn movie in view of her association with Judith Mazagwu, better known as Afrocandy.

Afrocandy is perceived as a professional and a hardcore porn star.

“Anita cannot do porn. You know why I can’t do porn? Because the money will finish but the movie won’t go,” she said.

“It’s not something I would like to do. Everybody in life has what he or she wants to do, I don’t care what anybody does.

“Some people said you’re friends with Afrocandy and all that, So What?”

The actress also noted that many Nigerians are very hypocritical when it comes to the matter of sex.

“Some of them do worse things behind closed doors. So don’t judge me, I do what I want to do but I can’t do porn. Anita is crazy, Anita is this, is that, I can’t do porn.

“There are some kinds of things I can’t do. If I’m doing business with Afrocandy, it’s movie business not porn and it’s my business.

“Nobody has the right to tell me I shouldn’t do it because she’s this, she’s that, that’s their business.”
