Nigerian singer, Johnny Drille, has spoken out about why Nigerian musicians fall out with their record labels over time.

Johnny Drille, a Mavin Records artiste, has said the reason why some Nigerian artistes fall out with their record labels is because they don’t understand the terms of contract.

The singer said this during an interview on Smooth FM’s, Lagos Talks, monitored by Premium Times on Thursday.

He said, “The numerous legal tussles in the Nigerian music industry can be avoided if artistes are aware of the terms of their contract. What I think is, a lot of artistes don’t pay attention to a lot of things. We (artistes) just want to make music and get music out there.

“If you even ask some artistes what licensing is they can’t even tell you neither can they tell you what copyright is. But, these are things most of us don’t pay attention to and we get to pay for them in the long run. We don’t even read contract, we don’t even try to understand them and we don’t even try to get lawyers to interpret it for us.”

During the programme, the 28-year-old singer also spoke about what his fans should expect from him this year.

He said, “I have got a few things planned out for the rest of the year. I have only released two songs this year but I plan to drop more music and videos. I am planning my first concert for this year as well, but we don’t we a certain date yet.”

He also spoke about the message behind his latest track titled Halleluluya, which features afro pop singer, Simi.

“’Halleluya’ is not exactly your typical Johnny Drille song. It has a lot of folk influences and if you listen to my previous songs you will understand that they are very heavy on folk. This new track has a lot of African vibes to it. It is also my second single on Marvin Records’ imprint.”

Born John Ighodalo, Johnny Drille, began his musical career in church. He partook in the sixth edition of Project fame in 2013.

His song “Wait for me” earned him a Headies nomination for Best Alternative Song in 2016. He officially joined Mavin Record in 2017.

Medical workers at the Ondo State Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Akure, battled to resuscitate their Chief Medical Director, Dr. Akinwumi Akinloye, after he was viciously attacked by a patient admitted in the hospital, Punch has reported.

The patient identified as Folorunsho Olawale, who was referred for admission by the men of Ondo State Police Command, allegedly attacked the CMD and nurses on Wednesday night.

He also reportedly destroyed some equipment at the hospital, with the workers claiming that there was nobody to rescue them from the deadly assault.

A source disclosed that Olawale became a patient in the psychiatric hospital after the Police suspected that he was suffering from mental impairment.

He had reportedly gone to a Police station in Akure where he had reportedly confessed to being involved in the killing of Khadijat, the daughter of a former deputy governor of the state, Lasisi Oluboyo, who was suspected to have been murdered by her boyfriend and two other persons.

Khadija Oluboyo’s murder case is still pending.

A source told our correspondent: “After a series of interrogation by the policemen at the station, Olawale was discovered to be having metal problem because his statement was incoherent and he was behaving abnormally.

“That was how he was referred to the psychiatric centre for observation.”

The source added that Olawale had been aggressive since his admission, noting that, on Wednesday evening, he allegedly stabbed two nurses and beat CMD Akinloye to a coma.

The source added that it took the interventions of other doctors from the Ondo State Specialists Hospital to resuscitate Dr. Akinloye.

The nurses and other medical workers of the psychiatric hospital have since gone on strike over the issue, citing inadequate protection and government negligence as reasons.

The workers flayed the Permanent Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, Dr. Ikuomola, who they said ordered them back to work instead of identifying with their complaint.

In response, Ikuomola said, “We are going to address all the grievances and challenges confronting the hospital, such as power and security.

“I have assured the workers that we will table their complaints before the state governor.”

However, the chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council in the state, Mr. Opeyemi Oloniyo, said the workers would not “subscribe to any threat from the permanent secretary.”

The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident.

The chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Walid Jibril has said it was the action of the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, that made the PDP donate former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio to the APC.

According to him, it was the response of the Acting President to the security siege at the National Assembly that made the opposition party allow Akpabio to go.

He, however, said that the PDP wants Akpabio to learn from the past.

He also said the PDP was happy “donating ” the former Senate Minority Leader, to the APC.

DAILY POST reported yesterday that Akpabio, a former chieftain of the PDP, officially dumped the party under which he was elected a two-time governor, for the APC.

Walid said it was within his right to decamp to another party, adding that there were competent hands in the party to take over from him.

“The recent attempt to tamper with the legitimate function of the National Assembly by selfish individuals who attempted to block the Assembly should be condemned and appropriate action taken against the intruders,” Walid told reporters in Abuja yesterday.

“In this respect, the Acting President Osinbajo should be praised for taking a decision to do away with the DSS boss, promising that the situation will be further investigated.

“The purported resignation of our minority Leader, Godwill Akpabio is also an act of democracy.

“Therefore, considering the recent action taken by Acting President Osinbajo, the PDP is happy to donate Senator Godwill Akpabio to APC through him with great pleasure, as we have many PDP Senators to do that job which has been upgraded to majority leader.

“On behalf of the BOT we wish Akpabio bye-bye and safe journey, advising him to learn from history especially from those that left us and are now returning in droves,” he said.

D’banj and wife suffered a devastating loss June 25, 2018 when their son and only child Daniel Oyebanjo III died after he drowned in a swimming pool at the family residence in Ikoyi.

D’Banj was away in Los Angeles for the BET Awards when the incident happened and at the time, Lineo was reportedly placed on suicide watch as insiders alleged she couldn’t stop crying since the tragedy.

Cynthia Cherop, a student at the Moi University, in Kenya has pleaded guilty to stealing money from her mother to spend with her boyfriend.

Cherop, had been accused of stealing KSh70,000 from her mother’s two accounts at the Barclays and National banks before spending it with Josephat Ng’ang’a.

She pleaded guilty to the charge but said she was a first offender. The student, in defense, told the court that she bought second hand (mitumba) clothes for her business.

CCTV footage of the Barclays Bank captured Ng’ang’a and Ms Cherop withdrawing the money.

Ng’ang’a was also charged with creating disturbance by threatening to beat up Cherop’s mother, Milka Chebosisi Sitati, on June 5 this year. He denied the charge and was released on a cash bail of KSh30,000.

Cherop’s mother pleaded with the court to jail her daughter after she pleaded guilty.

Chief magistrate Francis Andayi said it was unfortunate that the accused stole the money to spend with her boyfriend whom her mother did not approve of.

However, two of Ms Sitati’s brothers pleaded with the court to release Cherop to them since her mother did not want to see her. They said they wanted her to continue attending college.

Stunned, the magistrate asked Cherop:

“What have you done to your mother for her to hate you this much?”

State prosecutor Solomon Naulikha asked the court to treat the accused as a first offender and was not opposed to her being ordered to serve probation term.

The magistrate directed that a probation report be brought in court on August 2 to enable her go back to college.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actress who recently achieved a major feat in her weight loss journey, also emphasised that she never expected she would ever be a single mother as she described herself as someone who appreciates marriage and believes in building a family with her man.

Uche Ogbodo said, “It hasn’t been easy raising my daughter alone, I never ever wished I’d be a single mother because I am a family person and I am someone that has always loved marriage and raising a family.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday said its combat aircraft neutralised several bandits during air attacks near Mashema village and at another location, four kilometers Southeast of Yanwari, both in Zamfara.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

“On Aug. 1, 2018, ground troops, while on clearance operations near Mashema, came into contact with a group of armed bandits at a location West of Mashema village and therefore requested for air support.

“Accordingly, a NAF Alpha Jet aircraft from Katsina and an Mi-35M from Gusau were scrambled. In close coordination with troops on the ground, the combat aircraft engaged the bandits’ location with rockets and cannons neutralising several of them and causing a few survivors to scamper into different directions.

“The 2 aircraft subsequently pursued the fleeing bandits and thereafter neutralised them in follow-up attacks.

“Similarly, while on armed reconnaissance on Aug. 2, 2018, a NAF combat helicopter located over twenty armed bandits dressed in black attire with stolen cattle in their custody, in an open field near Yankari and Hayin Alhaji villages.

“The bandits, a few of whom were mounted on motorcycles, began to disperse on hearing the sound of the helicopter but were engaged by the helicopters’ machine guns.

“Several armed bandits were neutralised in the air attack while a few survivors seen fleeing the location, were taken out in subsequent follow-up attacks,” Daramola said.

He said that OPERATION DIRAN MIKIYA, which commenced on July 31, 2018, was an intensive air operation aimed at locating and neutralising armed bandits and other criminal elements in the North-West with a view to restoring normalcy in the affected areas.

“The Operation will be sustained, in coordination with sister Services and other security agencies, to stop killings, cattle rustling and other criminal activities.

“Accordingly, the NAF continues to solicit credible intelligence from locals, traditional rulers, local government chairmen and other government functionaries to facilitate the success of the operation,” he added.

The attacker fell foul of WADA’s rules and, following a failed appeal, will not be able to return to training until November.

Former Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has had his suspension for violating UEFA’s anti-doping regulations increased from six to 18 months.

Nasri was originally banned for six months after he received a drip treatment at a Los Angeles clinic in 2016, which UEFA said contravened rules laid down by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

But an appeal against the initial sanction by UEFA’s ethics and disciplinary inspector has resulted in an extended suspension, announced on Wednesday.

The ban is backdated to July 1 2017 and while Nasri made eight appearances for Turkish side Antalyaspor during that time, the 31-year-old free agent can return to training in November.

A statement from UEFA read: “The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body’s decision of 22 February 2018 is amended as follows:

“1. The player Samir Nasri is suspended for eighteen [18] months. This suspension will start running on 1 July 2017.

“2. The player Samir Nasri is allowed to return to training, with any football club starting from 1 November 2018.”

Ex-France international Nasri was pictured in a tweet posted by Drip Doctors in December 2016, in which they said he was being treated with “a concierge Immunity IV drip to keep him hydrated and in top health during his busy soccer season with Sevilla”.

Nasri, who was on loan at Sevilla from City at the time, asked that UEFA grant him a backdated therapeutic use exemption (TUE) that would have seen him escape any punishment for the treatment.

UEFA rejected his request and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the decision in December last year, after Nasri appealed.

In his acceptance of her resignation letter, Buhari said: “I have today received your letter notifying me of your intention to contest for the governorship of Taraba State in the 2019 election.

“Let me thank you on behalf of the Federal Executive Council and Nigerians for your services as minister under this administration. I note with passion your past contribution to our great party APC during and after the 2015 elections.

“As you are aware I am totally committed to free and fair elections. Our policy is to support all APC candidates. I wish you well in your ambition to be governor of your state. Rest assured that all security agencies as well as INEC will have my full support to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in 2019.”

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmed has berated Kano Senator, Rabiu Kwankwaso for saying the President will lose the 2019 election.

Kwankwaso’s media aide, Binta Spikin, had said that President Buhari will not win in Kano State come 2019.

New reports are surfacing that Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West, claims that he “spent 11 hours in the wilderness” was all lies as he was never kidnapped.

Melaye was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday before the Magistrate court in Abuja for alleged gunrunning, but the trial could not hold due to the claims by Senator Ben Bruce, quoting Melaye’s brother, that he had been abducted by unknown gunmen. [SEE HERE]

Imams and Islamic scholars in the country have been tasked to take the lead in preaching against corruption to their followers.

They were charged to tailor their sermon towards promoting accountability and transparency in public and private sectors.

Chairman of the occasion and Lagos Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdulhakeem Abdulateef said Lagos state government will continue to interact with leaders of different faiths and “we shall be willing to even engage many of them by making provision for their salaries so that they can assist government to re-orientate the people for good”.

Huge drama is expected in Kwara state politics in the weeks ahead as Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor AbdulFattah Ahmed planned defection to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress.

It is believed that what happened in 2014, when APC members left to join the PDP after Saraki joined the APC, a counter-defection from the PDP to APC or another political group is now easily predictable.

A sign of what to expect is the declaration by the Kwara State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, that he cannot work with the incoming defectors, especially Saraki and Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed.

Two senators, Shaaba Lafiagi (Kwara North) and Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara South) as well as the six members of the House of Representatives from the state were among federal legislators who defected on Tuesday from the APC.

Oyedepo who spoke on the development on a radio programme in Ilorin, the state capital, said the national leadership of the PDP set up a committee to interface between his group and the defectors. The first meeting is slated for next week, he said.

Those are all lies; the Senate President despite his humongous wealth, does not yet have what it takes to buy me. He cannot ever buy me because he cannot buy my integrity. If my bank account is not fat, my integrity account is very fat.

“So they have not met with us but our national body said they have set up a committee to meet with the two sides next week and when that meeting comes up, we are going to tell the national body that we cannot accept the formula they have put down which is 60:40, 60 percent for a state defecting with the governor and 40 percent for the existing PDP members. And if they said what of 50:50, or 40:60 or 30:70 or even 10:90, we shall not accept; we cannot accept any offer. Anything less than our not working together we cannot accept.

“So, we will tell our national body to choose between us and them and I know that they will not choose us because we don’t have money but we are not worried. We will only know that an end has come to our journey and our relationship (in the PDP).

Nigerians across the country will experience total lunar eclipse or rather blood moon tomorrow, Friday July 27, 2018.

A ‘blood moon’ happens when Earth’s moon is in full eclipse and has no special astronomical significance, rather, the view in the sky is striking as the usually whitish moon becomes red or ruddy-brown, Guardian reports.

According to the Science News, Nigeria will experience total lunar eclipse, which would be fully visible in Lagos

It noted that there would be total lunar eclipse on July 27, 2018 and January 21, 2019; partial lunar eclipse on July 16/17, 2019; transit mercury eclipse on November 21, 2019; and penumbral lunar eclipse January 10, 2020.

Also, on July 27, Mars will pass closer to Earth than it has done for 15 years.

The phenomenon, known as perihelic opposition, will make the red planet appear larger and brighter than normal in the night sky.

The rare event occurs when Mars reaches its closest point to the sun as the same time as Earth’s orbit brings it directly between the two.

Although the actual point of opposition will take place on July 27, Mars will be noticeably larger for the majority of the month of July.

Perihelic opposition can be seen with the neykked eye, meaning there is no need for expensive equipment for stargazers to spot the rare event next month.

The celestial events have been confirmed by the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) Abuja and the United States National Aeronautic Space Agency (NASA).

The space agency said Nigeria, like most of Africa, the Middle East, southern Asia and the Indian Ocean region would witness a total Lunar Eclipse on the 27th of July 2018.

Head media and corporate communications of the Agency, Dr. Felix Ale, told newsmen:

“The Eclipse in Nigeria will start around 6:44pm as partial eclipse and developed into a total eclipse around 7:30pm.

The Eclipse is expected to reach its peak around 9:21pm and wane from then until the eclipse ends around 12:30am of the 28th of July 2018.

“The total Eclipse will last for about 1 hour and 43 minutes, making it the longest total Lunar Eclipse of the 21st century.

No other Lunar Eclipse will be as long as this in the century.

The moon is expected to turn reddish as against the familiar whitish appearance in the period of totality.

A member of a notorious kidnap gang, Sunday Clark, who plotted the abduction of a businessman, Mr. Adewale Kazeem, has been arrested by operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Rivers State Police Command.

Clark told newsmen he acted as an informant to the gang to kidnap a businessman, Kazeem, a resident of Rukpokwu in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

“I did not join them the day they operated at the man’s (Adewale) house, but they only gave me N40,000 after they collected ransom from the man.

“I know the man (victim) and his house because he gave me a welding job to do in his house. I was still on the job when I brought in Tony (Tony Raphael, one of the kidnappers) and pointed to the house.

“Although Mr. Adewale paid me my money after doing the job for him, it was the devil that pushed me to plan with my gang to kidnap him. I beg for forgiveness,” the 36-year-old Clark said.

Parading members of the gang at the Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaki Ahmed, said they operated with an unregistered police colour Ford Ranger van, which was among item recovered from them.

Ahmed identified the arrested gang members as Tony Raphael, Ifeanyi Okoye, Chigozie Onuigbo, Emeka Nwaiwu, Chinedu Isia and Sunday Clark, adding that they were apprehended on June 18 and 19, 2018 during a sting operation by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

He said,

“The suspects, who usually operate in a police van also wore black jeans and T-shirt in police colours with the Ford van also in police colour bearing revolving light, have confessed to numerous kidnapping operations.

“They confessed to kidnapping one Adewale Kazeem on 24/12/2017, the kidnap of one Chief Emmanuel Ogbuji of Igwuruta town in June, this year, abduction of one Ikechukwu Okorie and also robbed him of his Toyota Camry Spider, which was later recovered.

“Also kidnapped by the gang is one Mike Nagwu of Eneka road in Port Harcourt. Exhibits recovered are police accoutrements, Ford van with revolving lights, black T-shirts and some pairs of jean trousers and two pump action guns.”

A female member of a notorious cult arrested by the police in Lagos has made a startling revelation on how she killed members of rival cult groups and any other person for a fee of N10,000.

While speaking when she was paraded by the Police in Lagos on Monday, a 20-year-old self-confessed sniper of the dreaded Eiye confraternity, Mariam Abiola, revealed how she killed four rival gang members in the Ilasamaja area of the state.

The young girl who admitted dropping out of school in SS3, was arrested on Monay morning together with three male accomplices by a police team from the Ilasamaja division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Titilayo Oriyomi.


While making her confessions to police interrogators, she said it was easier for her to operate unnoticed wearing a hijab, adding that a member of her gang she described as an herbalist always prepared charms for her before she embarked on any major operation.


"He said I needed to blend into the system by being a member of the Eiye confraternity. I agreed. Thereafter, Sadiq taught me how to use a gun. By the time I went through training three times, I knew how to fire accurately. “Anytime I was going to kill, Sadiq would give me the person's picture and send the address to my phone. I usually wore a white male flowing gown and white hijab whenever we were going to kill any rival member. "We always went in a group of four, including Wasiu and Segun. The gun was usually tucked inside my white flowing gown. On getting to the target's house, which was usually at night, other members would jump through the fence and open the gate for me. I would enter and fire the person in the chest and forehead before leaving there.


“I have killed four persons. None of our targets survived. I killed one guy at Fadeyi area of Lagos. Another one at Hassan area, one at Ajeh area. At the end of each killing, Sadiq would pay me N10,000 and five others N20,000. "I had struck at Fabiyi, Hassan and Aje streets and another street, all in Ilasamaja. Before we leave for any killing, we would visit the herbalist who would give us charms to put residents to sleep until the operation is concluded. I never felt bad killing anybody."


Meanwhile, Sadiq also admitted being a member of the Eiye confraternity but denied knowing Abiola. Speaking on the arrest, Lagos State commissioner of police, CP Imohimi Edgal said, "It is shocking to see a young lady of Abiola's age talk of killings. Parents should do more by monitoring their children. "It is worrisome that her confession are startling, chronicling the number of killings. Apart from being an assassin, she was also an armourer for her gang.”

The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC), has cried out to human rights organisations around the world over the alleged ongoing politically motivated killings in Nigeria, saying it has evidence to prove that the attacks have political undertone.

The group, while threatening to drag those behind the bloodletting in the country to the International Criminal Court, ICC, noted that the endless clashes between herders and farmers, which had led to loss of lives and valuables worth millions of Naira in some parts of the country were motivated.

SHAC lamented that some individuals and organisations have taken the laws into their hands by inciting political violence among innocent and harmless Nigerian citizens.

”We are inundated with overwhelming evidence that suggests that the spate of killings under the guise of herdsmen’s/farmers conflict, are indeed politically motivated,” the group said.

A statement signed by Adams Odoh esq, Executive Director of the group and obtained by our reporter on Monday claimed that there are overwhelming facts to show that some individuals and organizations are taking advantage of the ethnic and religious fragility of the country to continue to sow the seeds of hate and discord to achieve political goals.

According to Odoh, “This act of impunity, this rampage of impunity must be stopped in the interest of the continued existence of Nigeria and by extension the African continent because of the strategic role Nigeria plays in the political and economic stabilisation of the African continent.

“We are also appalled that despite overwhelming pieces of evidence that point to specific individuals and -organizations, nothing has been done to bring them to face the full wrath of the law.

“While it is worrisome to state that these heinous acts has resulted in the loss of lives, and destruction of property, international human rights watchdogs and persecutors such as the United Nations (UN) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) have not acted in the interest of the human race despite the series of petitions that has been submitted to it. This is very sad.

“The ICC has the jurisdiction to prosecute individuals for the international crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

“The question we, therefore, seek to ask the ICC is whether acts deliberately committed as part of an attack aimed at a specific sect of the population can be considered as a crime against humanity? And if yes, why hasn’t the ICC deemed it pertinent to commence prosecution of these individuals and organisations? Does Nigeria not fall under its jurisdiction? Some of these questions we demand answers to in the interest of peace and stability.

“Having stated the above, we are in unequivocal terms requesting for an immediate investigation on the sponsors of politically motivated killings in Nigeria, and also scrutiny of the various petitions that have been submitted to the ICC in recent times.

“Some individuals that are supposed to conduct themselves as elder statesmen like General T.Y. Danjuma, have also constituted themselves into that clog in the wheels of progress in the country by directly and indirectly inciting the people to take up arms against a particular sect in the society.

“We are worried that no single individual has been called for questioning despite overwhelming pieces of evidences before the ICC.

“As a way forward, the SHAC as an organisation, in conjunction with other stakeholders, is desirous to see to an end of the spate of political killings (under the guise of ethnic and religious crisis) in the country.

“We are consequently going to embark on daily sit outs and pressure outings to drive home our point in the light of the above.”

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has taken a swipe on the Northern Elders’ Forum and other socio-political organizations in the country over the vote of no confidence passed on President Muhammadu Buhari.

DAILY POST recalls that a coalition of ethnic nationality groups had passed a vote of no-confidence on Buahri, over what they described as the President’s inability to find a lasting solution to the country’s problems.

Speaking with newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on Saturday evening, the National President of OYC, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said he was unsure if those who passed the purported vote of no confidence on the President consulted their people.

Isiguzoro pointed out that Ohanaeze youths would not back any leader who was not ready to consult the people on issues affecting them.

He said that despite the obvious marginalization of the zone in the current APC-led government in the country, Ndigbo would consider all the presidential candidates, including Buhari.

“We have passed the stage of abusing a sitting President. Ndigbo must come together and decide our political future in Nigeria. We will never repeat the mistake of 2015. We will never carry our eggs in a one basket. So, Ndigbo will come together over 2019,” he said.

He added that,”Ndigbo will sit in a round table with Buhari to know what he has in stock for us. We will also need to know why he would not give us additional state using his executive power.”

While responding to allegations that a grand plan was afoot by the government in power to rig the general election in 2019, including the presidential poll, former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku on Thursday said the opposition PDP was prepared and ready for any challenge that may come against it as the forthcoming general election is concerned.

Atiku, accompanied by his campaign director general, Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, and other supporters from across the country, was in Taraba State to solicit support for his presidential campaign.

Governor Darius Ishaku and his deputy Haruna Manu, the Speaker Abel Peter Diah, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Victor Bala and other executives received the ex-VP at the Government House chamber in Jalingo.

“I have come to formally place before you a request for you to support me emerge, not only as the candidate of our great party (PDP), but become the president of this country in 2019.

“You know, if I become the president of Nigeria, it is as good as a Taraban is the president.

“I believe you will oblige to my request,” he said.

Atiku, who hails from neighboring Adamawa State, said Taraba was, politically, his home even more than Adamawa State.

He hailed Taraba for remaining a PDP State since 1999.

“Taraba has maintained the party’s continuity, handing over from PDP to PDP. I urge you to continue to do PDP and support PDP,” he said

He said he will restructure Nigeria if elected president.

Atiku’s campaign Director General, Gbenga Daniel, urged Tarabans to support Atiku because he is their son.

Daniel said whenever they are to bring a presidential candidate from the north, the candidate always comes from Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna, forgetting other states that are classified under the northern region.

“This time the president should come from the northeast,” he said and asked Governor Ishaku and Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe who are the only PDP states in the north, to lead the campaign for Atiku.

Students of Lagos State public schools are yet to access their results, two weeks after the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

A source from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, who pleaded anonymity, told The Nation that the non-release of the result, may not be unconnected to the non-completion of the payment of the examination fees by the Lagos State government.

“Some public school students have not seen their results because the process to pay the money was incomplete. But they are working on it,” the source said.

However, the Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, Demianus Ojijeogu, insisted the result had been released.

Reports reaching DAILY POST from Eruwa, headquarters of Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State have it that workers at the Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa are currently protesting against the alleged non-payment of their salaries and other entitlements running to twenty-four months by the Oyo state government.

The workers, among whom were members of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), were as at press time locking the gates of the institution.

DAILY POST learnt that they had yesterday informed the students not to come to school today (Wednesday) warning that should they come, no one will attend to them.

A source, who spoke with DAILY POST in a telephone conversation Wednesday morning, informed that the workers after chasing the students out of the institution, declared an indefinite strike over the alleged non-payment of their salaries and other entitlements by the state government.

The source, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, added that the workers had waited for many months to be paid, noting that they declared the commencement of the strike after all efforts to get their entitlements met a brick wall.

He said, “Yes, the workers in Ibarapa Polytechnic Eruwa today embarked on strike. It started yesterday, they had informed the students not to come to the school today and when the students came they locked the gates and declared an indefinite strike.

“You can see in the pictures the students are locked outside. The workers are protesting against non-payment of their salaries for several months”.

Chairman, Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), the Polytechnic Ibadan chapter, Comrade Ibrahim Akande, who confirmed the commencement of the indefinite strike to DAILY POST, however warned that the Polytechnic Ibadan will also join the strike if the situation is not brought under control by the state government.

Akande, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, added that the workers among whom were SSANIP and NASU members at Ibarapa Polytechnic Eruwa and Oke-Ogun Polytechnic Saki embarked on the strike due to the failure of the state government to offset their salaries and other entitlements running between 8 to 24 months.

Akande, who said it is only The Polytechnic Ibadan that is yet to join the industrial action, said workers at the Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki are already on strike.

He said, “Yes, I can confirm to you that SSANIP and NASU members at the Ibarapa Polytechnic Eruwa have declared an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their salaries and other entitlements running between 8 and 24 months.

“It varies, as at the last time that we met, it was between 8 and 24 months. You can see that Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki is also on strike. They are currently on strike due to non-payment of their salaries and other entitlements. SSANIP and NASU members in Saki are on strike too. Others are about to join.

“So, you can see that strike is looming in all the tertiary institutions in Oyo state. That of Polytechnic Ibadan is also looming. We are still waiting. It is only The Polytechnic Ibadan that is not on strike now. Yes, I can confirm to you.”
