Nollywood actress, Adebimpe Oyebade, who was crowned ‘The Best New Actress 2018’ in the Yoruba section of the City People Awards ahead of so many big names in the industry, has revealed how she stumbled on acting and why she’s got no man at the moment.

Here are excerpts from the interview Adebimpe Oyebade granted Vanguard;

You just won ‘Best New Actress 2018 (Yoruba) at the City People Magazine Awards that held last Saturday. What’s the feeling like, in view of having being in the industry for just two years?

I feel great. It is by the grace of God and hardwork. I joined the industry in 2016 but started professionally in 2017, after my NYSC in Benin in 2016. I started with modeling when I was in the university but didn’t go professional until my service year in Edo State.

What spurred your interest in acting?

Honestly, acting was never in my plans; as a child I wanted to be an air hostess or a newscaster. Acting happened by chance for me. During my NYSC I got an information about a movie audition, the director was casting for a lead role of a movie. I decided to audition for the role, it was an online audition, so, I sent different videos to the email that was attached to the message that I got. Eventually, I got selected to play the role, the movie was titled ‘Agbede Meji’ (cross road) by Yomi Fabiyi. I acted alongside Gabriel Afolayan. After the production of the movie I went back to Benin to complete my service year. The movie however got a lot of good reviews and that got me so many acting opportunities.

Are you in a relationship?

I’m very single and not searching. I’m focused on my career so I don’t need any man.

You mean having a man in your life will disrupt your career?

I don’t mean it that way, if I meet someone today and I like him then why not? What I’m trying to say is that I’m not desperate to be in a relationship.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of flying many helicopters full of cash into Osun State ahead of the Saturday’s election.

The party said the APC was planning to buy votes with billions of Naira in order to manipulate the people to vote for the ruling party’s candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.

The PDP also denied that its candidate in the election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was collecting bank details of the electorate through a WhatsApp number in order to buy their votes.

Speaking with journalists at the party’s secretariat on Friday, the PDP Chairman in Osun State, Soji Adagunodo, noted that the party had detected several means through which the APC wanted to rig the election.

Adagunodo said, “We wish to alert the general public to the planned monetisation of the Osun State governorship election, especially the voting process, by the APC.

“Towards this ignoble end, several helicopters loaded with cash were flown into the Government House between the hours of 4pm and 8pmon Thursday.

“The money, which we were reliably informed about run into billions of naira, was contributed by state governors elected on the platform of the APC to enable the party to induce voters at various polling units.

“In addition, each of the 67 local government council development areas in Osun State was made to cough up N12.5m for the same purpose.

“The plan of the APC, as gathered from very credible sources, was to buy votes with a sum ranging from N5,000 to N10,000 each at the polling units.

“It is quite unfortunate that a government which did not find it compelling to pay salaries and allowances of its workforce for 34 months could resort to attempting to buy the conscience of voters in this election.”

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has declared that the Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, was not in any way embattled over the contention for the governorship ticket of the party in the state.

Following a reported relationship breakdown between Ambode and a National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, the latter was said to have anointed one Babajide Sanwoolu as the next governor of Lagos State.

Just recently, the Vice Chairman of the APC in Lagos East Senatorial District, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, stated that Tinubu instructed the 57 Local Council Chairmen in the state to work towards the emergence of Sanwonolu as the next governor of the state.

However, Oshiomhole dismissed the claims of rift between Ambode and the Lagos APC leader.”

Speaking during a meeting with the party’s governors, Oshiomhole insisted that the Lagos State chapter of the party was in sound health, irrespective of the discontents against the governor, Vanguard reports.

According to Oshiomhole, “Now, the attempt to say an embattled governor…there is no APC governor that is embattled and because we are democratic, the best way to measure democracy is the presence of more than one person showing interest in an office.

“That does not make any other person embattled. But, of course, the media can create this impression that there is an earthquake in Lagos; there is no earthquake.

“At every level, I have seen people claiming that in one or two offices there was no opposition. In every other office, we have more than one candidate expressing interest. Those people who are currently occupying those positions are not by reasons of those new expressions of interests, embattled.

“Three, to say that you have never seen Lagos state governor in our meetings is to the extent that your lens is blurred. My records and minutes of our meetings will show the participation of the Lagos state governor in all the meetings in which he has been invited.

“I think our party in Lagos is at peace.”

What is your fashion weakness?

I love handbags and I want to stop buying them because they are bankrupting. I have lost count of the numbers of bags I have in my closet.

What is that item you can’t go out without?

I always have sunglasses with me.

How would you describe your style?

I think it is different. I just like to be comfortable.

What steps do you take to look this good?

I just try to be myself and be healthy because I am mindful of whatever I consume. I visit the gym once in a while and I stay happy always.

What is your outlook on life?

It’s very important to pray a lot; just believe in yourself, have amazing people around you, stay focused and keep pushing. Just keep a positive mind and be optimistic generally.

I think when you worry about your situation, after all, it is not a remedy; so the remedy is just to stay positive and pray.

Do you cook?

Of course, I cook. I only like to cook for people. I don’t like cooking to eat. And I have my own cooking book, so I like to experiment.

What clothes won’t you be caught wearing?

I have my moments. For me, I think I wouldn’t wear something that does not suit my body.

Do you use waist trainer?

I did that for a long time, but I think there was a time during fasting that I couldn’t do it, so I stopped.

What else are you into apart from acting?

I love anything related to arts so I do interior designing. I produce movies, write and I direct. I also edit. I also edit all my movies. I think I just like being involved in everything.

Which of them do you fancy the most?

I love the interior job. I like transforming beautiful rooms into something wholesome.

American singer, The Weeknd has been sued for at least $5 million for alleged plagiarism a Somali-American poet named Yasminah.

Yasminah si suing the 28-year-old and the song’s producers, Daft Punk, with claims that her song Hooyo is the blueprint for ‘Starboy,’

The self-described ‘activist’ released her track in 2009, seven years before The Weeknd’s chart-topper. Both tracks feature the ‘same hook, same key, similar tempo and both songs feature prominent claps on beats 2 and 4’.

When The Weekend dropped ‘Starboy’, it became an instant hit and sold more than 6 million copies in the US alone.

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, an All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant in Ebonyi State, Chief Kelechi Chima, has insisted that the Presidency was not backing any aspirant in the state.

Chima, a former member of the House of Representatives, made the remark while addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital on Monday.

He noted that neither President Muhammadu Buhari, presidential aides nor the party was backing any of the eight governorship aspirants in the state gubernatorial race.

Chima said, “The alleged report is unfounded, replete with falsehood and completely untenable.

“APC as a party does not believe in imposition because it believes in rule of law and the right of party members to choose their candidates in credible, free, fair and open selection process.

“Any of the aspirants who wins the party’s nomination in a free, fair and credible election, the rest of us will support the person.

“I don’t believe that the presidency or the party will impose anybody on Ebonyi; it is what Ebonyi people decide to do that they will do.

“Any of the aspirants who manages to play his politics well and wins, it means that Ebonyi people have accepted that person to be their candidate and we will support him to win the election.

“There is nothing like imposition in APC or the presidency supporting any aspirant against others to the best of my knowledge.”

A kidnap victim, James Uduji, on Friday told a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere that the alleged billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, gave him tetanus injections for seven days to treat the gun wounds he sustained during the abduction.

According to PUNCH, Uduji, a businessman, also told the court that Evans drove the Lexus 470 SUV in which he was abducted on September 7, 2015 by four armed men on his way home from his factory at Agbara, Ogun State.

He made the revelation while giving evidence at the commencement of trial of Evans before Justice Adedayo Akintoye.

Evans is currently facing two separate charges, bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder, before the judge.

Evans is standing trial alongside Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba in the first charge. In the second charge, he is standing trial alongside Joseph Emeka, Linus Okpara and Victor Aduba.

At the resumed trial, Uduji told the court that the incident happened close to his house on 7th Avenue, FESTAC Town, Lagos.

Uduji said the kidnappers were driving a Lexus 470 SUV at the time of the incident and that they fired several gunshots during the operation.

The witness said he was surprised to see men shooting at that point, adding that he thought they were policemen.

He said,

“I was inside my Hilux van with my two drivers when the men came and pulled me out of my vehicle and dragged me inside their own vehicle.

“I was not blindfolded at this point, so I saw the men clearly and the man at the steering with a gun was Evans. He is the only one I can recognise among the four.”

The witness also said that when he was dragged out of his vehicle, he noticed that he was stained with blood.

“I then realised I sustained bullet wounds,” he said.

Uduji said the kidnappers later called a doctor on the telephone who treated his bullet wound at their destination.

He stated that he was given two tetanus injections for seven days, adding that Evans was the so called doctor, who treated him.

The businessman said he spent a total of 45 days in the kidnappers’ den before he was released following the payment of $1.2m (about N400m) as ransom.

Uduji told the court that the $1.2m ransom was paid by his family in three instalments, adding that he was released eight days after the ransom was paid.

Also testifying as a witness, one of Uduji’s drivers, Mr. Jerome Ugoeze, told the court that he was equally shot in the attack.

He said after being shot, he pretended to be dead while his boss was whisked away by the kidnappers.

The driver said some Good Samaritans later came to his rescue and took him to a hospital.

Further proceedings in the trial have been adjourned till Monday, September 17.

Uduji was, however, cross-examined by the defence counsel, including Mr. Olarewaju Ajanaku, who represented Evans.

Ajanaku said the specific date when Uduji was released from the kidnappers was not mentioned in the statement which the witness made at the police station.

He also said the date which the businessman testified that he made the statement at the police station did not tally with the date in the body of the statement.

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Sule Lamido has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of dehumanizing Nigerians like he did in 1983.

Lamido speaking in Benin City, Edo State on Thursday while addressing delegates ahead of the October National Convention of the party, insisted that Buhari who staged a coup in 1983, removed the political class and clamped them into prisons, “is the same Buhari doing the same thing today, dehumanizing humanity.”

He urged Nigerians to join hands with his party to rescue the country from the clutches of President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The former Jigawa State governor said “For us to have a country which belongs to all Nigerians in a federation, we must have equal rights and opportunity. Every Nigerian has the right to access power whether from the North or South.

“PDP made some mistakes. Some of its members were reckless but they are humans. Time will cure us because they are humans. Some us are calling Buhari’s name because we don’t have institutions. The economy is very weak, no security, no bureaucracy, and no standing institutions to protect all of us in terms of justice and fairness. One single human being is appropriating Nigeria as if it is his own.

“Today, this party of saints called the APC is a party of pains, hunger, anger and evil and where are we today? It is a party which has no historical foundation, no philosophy, ideology.

“Buhari who staged a coup in 1983, removed the political class and clamped them into prisons is the same Buhari doing the same thing, today, dehumanizing humanity

“Today, we are more divided as a people. There is more poverty in the country than it was in the past; more pains and agonies. APC has no history like the PDP. It is a mere political contraption.

“Buhari and the APC have no vision, no human compassion and all they like doing is to inflict pains on Nigerians. They want to destroy people’s living standard to a level that they will all become perpetually poor.

“Leadership is geared towards raising people, motivate and give hope and confidence. All those that makes APC government thick are former PDP members.

“They are former governors, senators, ministers, ambassadors among others. The PDP you maligned is now the prominent members of the party and if you says we are thieves, then the government in Abuja is of evil people.

“The former PDP members are the ones that produce the APC government in Abuja. Then how do we build a nation by maligning each other’s where there is no love, respect. Leadership is about that human feeling in you, the feeling of care and compassion. When you see poverty, you feel it.

“Nigeria is for us and not for APC, Lamido or for PDP, as such nobody can come and destroy the country. Be on the watch out. My aspiration is not a desperation. But you and I have been in PDP. We have been demoralized, gone through hell, coerce but yet we never left the party.”

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, a Presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on Kano delegates to give him the necessary support during the forthcoming primaries.

He made the call while addressing party supporters at the personal office of the embattled chairman of the party, Sen Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa in Kano on Monday.

Atiku said if he eventually emerged as the party’s flag bearer and was able to achieve his presidential ambition, he would do everything possible to improve the living standard of Nigerians, especially the poor.

Atiku said he would tackle unemployment, especially among the teeming youths in the country, in addition to introducing empowerment programmes for women.

He urged Kano people support the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in its bid to address the ‘various socio-economic challenges’ facing the country.

Earlier, Doguwa, said the defection of Atiku to PDP had strengthened the party at both the state and national levels.

He said the visit was a clear demonstration of Atiku’s love for Kano people, and assured him of support of the people.

“You are known to be a fighter to the core. We know your importance when it comes to election.

“We know if you are given the mandate, the country will witness a lot of development,” he said.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi on Sunday said starting from September 2018, each member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the state will be paid N10, 000 allowance.

Umahi made the declaration while opening the maiden David Umahi Tertiary Institution Games (DUMTIGA) at the Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium, Abakaliki, the state capital.

He explained that his administration was extending the gesture because the Corps members had shown commitment to the cause of their fatherland.

According to Umahi, “I want every sector of the state’s existence to emulate the corps members for its overall betterment.

“In appreciation of the corps members commitment, I will donate N6 million to them for their transportation in addition to the N10, 000 allowance that each will receive from the end of September.”

He also gave a N3 million transportation donation to other teams at the competition, with particular reference to the Ebonyi State University team who are playing in the male football event’s opening match with the NYSC team.

“The organisers of the competition will receive N1 million as the government has released funds to ensure that the sports competitions are uninterruptedly organised in the state till December,” he said.

This week’s siege on the home of a foremost ijaw leader, Edwin Clark by the some officials of the Nigeria Police has continued to receive condemnations.

The latest, from a group known as Ijaw Solidarity Forum, ISF, not only condemned the raid on Clark’s residence but as well as the siege on the home of Kingsley Kuku, a former Presidential Amnesty Coordinator under the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

In a statement signed by the Group’s Coordinator, Borowei Peretei and made available to DAILY POST on Friday in Akure, Ondo State capital, he decribed the raids as a deliberate ethnic target on its prominent sons.

The group also alleged that the raids were orchestrated at embarrassing and silencing opposition voices ahead of 2019 election.

“The move is a clearly premeditated political attempt and a tacit ploy to intimidate the opposition ahead of the 2019 general elections”, the statement read.

Peretei said that nothing could have offended the people of Ijaw ethnic tribe more than the reckless conduct of the police, all in the name of searching for non-existing arms and ammunition in the homes of their illustrious sons.

The statement further read, “No bigger insult could have been meted out to the people of Ijaw ethnic tribe by the police than the raid on the residence of a 91 year old foremost Ijaw son.

“We cannot fathom what a man of Chief Clark’s age would be doing with weapons which as a matter of fact only exist in the imagination of the police. And more offending to our collective sensibilities was the fact that there was no trace of any arm or ammunition in the Elder Statesman’s residence at the end of the unjustifiable search”.

Peretei also lamented an earlier raid similarly carried out on the ancestral hometown of Kingsley Kuku in Arogbo – Ijaw.

“It will be recalled that a similar raid was carried out by a team of police detachment on the instruction of Police Inspector General at the Arogbo-Ijaw residence of Dr. Kingsley Kuku. Some relations of the former Presidential Amnesty Coordinator were manhandled while some properties were either destroyed or badly handled during the course of this raid. At the end, there was no trace of any arm or ammunition in the residence,” he said.

The group said that they refused to believe that these chain of illegal events were mere coincidences.

Rather, the group was of the opinion that “the police under Ibrahim Idris was merely unveiling a rehearsal of planned police harassments and intimidation to be unleashed on the opposition voices in 2019.”

The group, however, warned that any further police harassment targeted on any son or daughter of Ijaw ethnic tribe could derail the prevailing peace being enjoyed in the Niger Delta region of the country.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, Alhaji Umar Aiyelabegan, on Wednesday declared that the party would sweep the polls during the 2019 general elections.

Aiyelabegan told newsmen in Ilorin that Senate President Bukola Saraki would be “humbled” even in his Ajikobi Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

He said Saraki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would be defeated because the people were resolute in rejecting the senate president as a political leader in the state.

Aiyelabegan is from the same Ajikobi Ward as Saraki.

“APC is going to win the state in the 2019 elections and Buhari is going to be the president.

“Every candidate of the APC will be victorious over their opponents during the elections,” Aiyelabegan said.

According to him, the major objective of the party is to rescue the state from “a particular family that has held the entire state to ransom for over two decades.”

Former Governor of Cross River State and Presidential aspirant, Donald Duke, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Donald Duke who is expected to run on the party’s platform, declared his decision at the national secretariat of the SDP on Tuesday afternoon where he was received by the national secretary, Shehu Gabam, the publicity secretary, Alfa Mohammed, amongst others.

Donald Duke who is remembered by many Nigerians for massive projects like the Tinapa resort and the Obudu cattle ranch, both of which have been mired in controversy since his exit, left his party of about 20 years because according to him, it had derailed and lost its values and was not the same party he joined back then.

The former Governor had only few days ago, clarified the homosexuality comment credited to him while on a recent interview with Falz and Laila on the viral show ‘On The Couch’.

Donald Duke who disclosed how he intends to lead the country on the show, disclosed that he won’t criminalize gay people. He reportedly said;

“I don’t understand the emotional feelings a gay person would have toward someone of their sexuality. I don’t understand it. But I would not criminalise them. I would ensure that they have the protection of the law. But if they want to exhibit their sexuality, then that’s an affront on the current norms of society.”

However reacting the statement which generated controversy, Donald Duke alleged that he was taken out of context and that ‘Homosexuality is a crime in Nigeria and ought to remain so’. Recall also that the interview was centered on food, before the presidential aspirant made it known. that he wanted to talk about gender and then delved into homosexuality. Six suspected members of a deadly armed robbery gang terrorising Imo state have been arrested by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS).

The suspects were arrested with two locally-made pistols, two locally-made revolver pistols with three live unexpended cartridges, one ammunition and a bag of weed suspected to be India hemp, The Punch reports.

The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, September 2, according to a statement by the state commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi.

Galadanchi gave the names of the suspects as Onyebuchi Uruaku, 62; Micheal Chigozie, 20; Ifeanyi Uchenna, 21; Ugochukwu Ejiniogu, 28; and Chinonso Obiakor, 32.

The police boss said: “We have redoubled efforts in fighting criminality in Imo State. This is ember and we have closed all the gaps.”

Meanwhile, Mc Ebisco earlier reported that the police command in Akwa Ibom state said its officers had killed four of the five suspected armed robbers who robbed a fuel station in Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom on August 21.

The commissioner of police in the state, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, made the disclosure at a news conference in Uyo on Friday.

According to a report by PRNigeria, the recently sacked Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Lawal Daura may be recalled to his duty post.

The news outfit claimed that a top security source close to the presidency said plans are afoot to reverse the various reorganizations embarked upon by the new Acting DSS boss, Mathew Seiyefa. The sources said;

“The presidency is not happy with some recent deployment by the acting Director General of DSS, Mathew Seiyefa especially the redeployment of Director of DSS in Kano, Alhassan Muhammad to the Headquarters in Abuja and the deployment of Director Operations at the Headquarters,

Mr. Godwin Bassey Eteng who was moved to the Institute of Security Studies, Abuja as Director. And the posting of another officer from Kebbi to serve as the Chief of Staff to the DG in Abuja.

“The recent reorganizations which the new DSS chief has initiated include but not limited to postings of directors from headquarters to states and vice-versa.

Others include reorganization within the headquarters, postings across the various government agencies, and postings among the rank and file. Over 30 officers at all levels and cadres are affected in the reorganization.”

“The impending reversal of the reorganisation is to maintain the status quo hitherto left by the erstwhile DSS boss Daura to pave way for his likely return following what the source revealed as a clean bill of health given to him or for a new replacement that will be very loyal to the Presidency and the government of the ruling party.”

Frontline Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has laughed off insinuations in some quarters that he is fronting for another aspirant and would eventually step aside from the race.
“There is nothing like that. He will never step down for anybody. We are not working with anybody,” a statement issued on Sunday by the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki Presidential Campaign Organisation said.
The statement dismissed as “ridiculous, the very idea of Turaki stepping down for anybody”, declaring that “that will never happen”.
The statement added: “Turaki is eminently qualified to provide the kind of leadership Nigeria needs at this critical juncture of her history. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he has risen to the top of his profession, Law. He has requisite managerial and leadership experiences, having served his country meritoriously as a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity, and Chairman, Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of the Security Challenges in the North East.
“Turaki is neither old nor too young. He is strong, vibrant and possess a first-class intellect and the kind of radical ideas needed to take Nigeria out of the woods and make her a respected member of the comity of nations whose citizens would be proud of, instead of the present situation where many Nigerians have lost hope in the country and would do anything to migrate abroad through any means possible.”
The statement further noted that Turaki, the current Chairman of former PDP Ministers’ Forum of Nigeria, who picked his Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms on Wednesday, has taken a head start in the presidential race and has no reason to back down for any reason.
It said: “Turaki has toured more states than any other aspirant and has received assurances of support from many of the states so far visited for consultations. He is the New Face of Hope Nigeria needs at this time and we are confident that our great party will give him the mandate to contest and defeat President Muhammadu Buhari, whose visionless administration has set Nigeria several years backward, in the 2019 presidential election.”

Renowned Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has revealed why she wears made in Nigeria designers to major outings.

The eminent Nigerian author and feminist, Adichie revealed the reason behind her choice of fashion in an interview with i-D’s Candice Carty-Williams.

“I decided to use fashion as a kind of political statement,” Chimamanda reveals, “which is to say that I made the choice to wear mostly Nigerian designers to public events, because obviously I want to support an industry that’s full of talent, but also to make a case for how fashion can tell a story. Fashion and culture are intertwined in very interesting ways.”

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has continued to use her Instagram page to showcase her love for Nigerian fashion brands. She makes sure she tags each post with “#MadeInNigeria”

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki yesterday, in Abuja, visited the immediate past president of the country, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, with a declaration that all lovers of the country must work together to return the country to the path of growth, fairness, equity and justice.
Saraki pointed out that the declaration became necessary in view of the present realities in the country.
This is even as Dr Jonathan commended the Senate President for his leadership abilities.
According to Jonathan, “Looking at what is happening in the country, if not for your strong leadership, probably the National Assembly would have been in chaos and if the National Assembly is in tatters, then of course, democracy is gone”.
The immediate past President commended the President of the Senate, Dr. Saraki for the firm and progressive leadership he has provided for the National Assembly.
Jonathan said the tremendous support being enjoyed by Saraki from lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives testifies to his leadership ability.
He thanked Saraki and members of his entourage for the visit, noting that most of the leaders that came to his house with the President of the Senate had at one time or the other, played key roles in his political hostory and development.
Jonathan said: “Senate President, let me use this opportunity to commend your leadership abilities. Looking at what is happening in the country, if not for your strong leadership, probably the National Assembly would have been in chaos and if the National Assembly is in tatters, then of course, democracy is gone.”
Earlier, Saraki said his visit was to pay his respect to the ex-president and also to inform him of his formal return to the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Princess Shyngle’s infamous interview with the controversial Delay had a mentioning all the men that have passed through her project and Michael Essien was one of them.

Reno Omokri, former Special Assistant on New Media to erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan, has slammed IGP Suleiman Abba (Rtd) for claiming that he was fired by the immediate past government for refusing to rig the last Osun governorship election in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Abba made this claim in an interview while addressing the circumstances surrounding his unceremonious exit from the police force.

However, Omokri said the ex-IGP’s poor memory exposed his own lies, stressing that he was sack by Jonathan seven months after the said Osun governorship election for dereliction of duty and his inability to account for the mysterious death of the then Kano state Resident Electoral Commissioner and his family.

A statement on Sunday by the ex-Presidential aide reads: “My attention has been drawn to recent comments by former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, who alleged that he was sacked by ex President Goodluck Jonathan because he refused to rig elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party during the gubernatorial elections in Osun State.

“Speaking to Daily Trust on Sunday August 26, 2018, Mr. Abba had said ‘One of the leading stalwarts in the PDP then said to me: ‘IG (you know I was acting then) deliver Osun to us and we will confirm you quickly.’ I was shocked! That was when I knew that I may not last long in the office.’

“The former Inspector General of Police then blamed his failure to influence that election for his sack by then President Jonathan.

“IGP Suleiman Abba is proof of the fact that liars need a very good memory otherwise they would contradict themselves with their lies.

“Let us examine some facts. The Osun State gubernatorial election held on Saturday August 9, 2014. The results of that election was declared the next day on Sunday, August 10, 2014.

“Mr Suleiman Abba claims to have been sacked because he failed to rig that election for the Peoples Democratic Party.

“However, Suleiman Abba was appointed acting Inspector General of Police on Friday August 1, 2014 and sacked from office on Monday April 20, 2015.

“If it was true that Mr Abba was sacked for refusing to rig the Osun State election, which held on August 9, 2014, why would former President Jonathan wait for 7 and a half months before sacking him?

“If it was true that Mr Abba was sacked for refusing to rig the Osun State election, which held on August 9, 2014, why would former President Jonathan keep him in office to preside over the Nigerian Police Force during the more important 2015 Presidential election which was even more crucial to the then President and the PDP?

“When juxtaposed with these facts, the accusation of the former IGP of Police makes no sense to reasonable men and women.

“Former President Jonathan is known as a man who is not desperate for power. He has a reputation for providing the enabling environment for free and fair elections.

“As a matter of fact, when the current chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, was re-elected after the June 2012 gubernatorial election in Edo State, the then Edo State Governor said on July 15, 2012 as follows:

“President Jonathan has demonstrated statesmanship. I think there is hope for Nigeria. What the Edo election has confirmed is that when the President and Commander-in-Chief puts the country first and conducts himself as a statesman, not just as a party leader, credible elections are possible.”

“This testimony, from an opposition governor, who was opposed to the re-election of then President Jonathan and who is now the chairman of the APC, completely rubbishes Mr Abba’s statements.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr Suleiman Abba was sacked for dereliction of duty, because under his watch, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Kano State, Alhaji Mukaila Abdullahi, was burnt to death with his wife and two children on Friday, April 3, 2015, under suspicious circumstances after he had reported incidents of severe electoral fraud in his domain.

“When confronted with this suspicious death, the then acting IGP of Police gave contradictory and unsatisfactory answers. As a leader who valued the sanctity of human life, former President Jonathan ordered the sack of the then acting IGP and appointed Deputy Inspector General of police, Solomon Arase, to act in his stead and get to the bottom of the suspicious death.

“I therefore urge Mr Abba to find other ways to ingratiate himself to the current powers that be and leave former President Jonathan out of his lying schemes and plans.”
