The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Wednesday noted that the state would not vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike, while giving conditions for the party to get Rivers votes, said unless the state is rewarded just like Adamawa, Benue and Delta states.

The Rivers State Governor stated this during the flag-off of the construction of internal roads in the Igwurita Community in the Ikwerre local government area.

The flag-off was performed by the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu on Wednesday.

He further stated that the party feels they are harming Rivers, adding that they would experience confusion unless they change.

Wike said, “Nobody should come and deceive you. No amount of social media war can solve any problem. Anybody who wants our vote must tell us what is there for us. Our votes are no longer for the dash. Our votes are for you to tell us what you will do for us.

“So, if you have given to Adamawa, you have given to Benue, you have given to Delta, why can’t you give to Rivers? Won’t you give to Rivers? Just to come and collect the votes, far, far, far, foul!

Couple found dead at home in Katsina

A couple, Muhammad Umar and Sayyada Shamsiyya, have died mysteriously in Katsina State.

Details of the incident are still sketchy, however, it was gathered that the couple who got married last year, were found dead in their home in Unguwar Rahamawa area of Katsina metropolis at about 5:00pm on Friday, August 19, 2022.

Neighbours said that the couple showed no sign of illness, adding that they had attended Friday prayer before they were found dead.

The couple were buried on Saturday morning, August 20, according to Islamic rites.

Nigeria Isn’t Ready for a Muslim-Muslim Ticket, Says Kaigama, Reacting to Tinubu’s Selection of Shettima as Running Mate

Ignatius Kaigama, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, has stated that Nigeria is not ready for a Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket.

During an interview with journalists in Daura, Katsina State, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu confirmed the selection of former Borno Governor Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Prior to this development, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had strongly opposed the idea of a single-faith ticket, urging political parties to prioritize competence over sentiment.

Tinubu, who ended up running on a Muslim-Muslim ticket, has defended his reasons for not selecting a Christian as his running mate.

Kaigama told The Punch on Sunday that the country is not yet prepared for the same faith Presidential ticket in the 2023 presidential election.

Kaigama contended that the choice between a Muslim-Muslim and a Christian-Christian ticket is unfair and unjust to the faith that was excluded.

According to the cleric, such tickets should be balanced for the sake of religious sensitivity and tolerance.

“It would not be fair and just to decide that only one religion will produce the major actors, excluding others who will become like strangers,” he said. For the sake of religious sensitivity in a country like Nigeria, it is important that we strike a balance and become like one big family.”

Boko Haram Rains Terror, Kills 17 Officers, Abducts Four Chinese In A Move To Seize Shiroro Power

On Wednesday evening, Boko Haram terrorists rained terror on Ajata Aboki Village in Shiroro Local Government Area which is about 200 kilometres northwest of the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

At least 17 soldiers andofficers were killed, while four Chinese workers were seized during the assault by the insurgents. The state government said in a statement that four Chinese were abducted, but could not immediately ascertain fatalities of security personnel.

The government said reinforcement was dispatched to the scene, but no further details could be provided as of Thursday morning.

Boko Haram fighters have made repeated attempts to seize the facility, which contributes about 620 megawatts to the national electricity grid, since last.

A spokesman for the Nigerian Army and the police headquarters did not immediately return requests seeking comments about how the incident unfolded and what efforts had been activated to nab the assailants.

“The Boko Haram terrorists tried to take over Shiroro station again and on their way they met resistance from our men and left many of them killed,” a security source told Peoples Gazette by telephone on Thursday morning, fearing that casualties may rise from the violence. “We have been receiving reports that the situation might be worse than we know right now.”

PROSTATE cancer can be difficult to detect in the early stages, as symptoms are hard to come by. However, as the disease progresses, Dr Hasan Qazi details one sign all men should look out for.

A consultant urologist at The Princess Grace Hospital, Dr Qazi specialises in diseases of the male anatomy. Here, he speaks exclusively to dailyexpress.co.uk about prostate cancer.

Quite frankly, he explains that by the time symptoms of prostate cancer occur, it's "usually beyond the stage of a complete cure".

However, there is hope as it can be "treated, nonetheless", meaning people can still enjoy a high-quality life.

Dr Qazi begins to differentiate between "local symptoms" and "systemic symptoms".

Local symptoms are "related to the presence of cancer, invading adjacent structures", he explained.

Systemic symptoms, on the other hand, are "related to the cancer spreading across the body".

The one sign all men should look out for – in terms of "local symptoms" – is "change in urination".

This can include a weakened flow of urine, dribbling, or waking up at night to pass urine.

These signs occur when the cancerous tumour enlarges or deforms the prostate and the urethra that passes through it.

Dr Qazi highlights other local symptoms of prostate cancer you're encouraged to discuss with your GP (if it applies to you).

For instance, any blood mixed with semen to urine should be regarded as a warning sign.

This could be indicative that the cancer has invaded the urinary bladder or the urethra.

Another local symptom is "problems achieving or maintaining an erection", adds Dr Qazi.

This suggests the cancerous tumour has invaded the "nerves near the prostate surface that supply the penis for erection".

Systemic symptoms (i.e. cancer that has spread to other body parts) include "back pain or weakness of legs".

This could be a sign that the cancer has "invaded the vertebral bones and the spine".

Moreover, "like many cancers, unexplained weight loss is a sign of advanced prostate cancer".

Diagnosis of prostate cancer will likely include a blood test and an "urgent referral to the hospital" for an MRI scan.

The first step with treating any type of cancer, including prostate cancer, is making your doctor aware of any symptoms you may be experiencing.

“This value addition expectedly developed from within, with the aid of local services and resources in the petroleum industry, should contribute to local capacity building, with considerations for the elements of health, safety and quality.”

Lawan while underscoring the need to develop the nation’s local capacities said, “we need to also appreciate that our social and economic conditions need continuous reviews for development, with a good quantum of home-grown fundamentals, and especially considering the new realities, brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic reminds us of the need for resource independence, the strengthening of local capacity, and the importance of increasing indigenous variables in the Oil and Gas production, and in other areas.”

“The overall aim of this is the promotion of industrialization of the nation’s all-important Oil and Gas sectors, for enhancing the wellbeing of those in the industry and the overall growth of the Nigerian economy.

As a matter of fact, the Gun popularly known as AK-47 is best described as a hybrid of previous rifle technology innovations. It is an invention which evolved from a combination of previous other technologies.

It is stated that Mikhail Kalashnikov designed an automatic rifle combining the best features of the American M1 and the German StG 44.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has asked the former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu to stop commenting on plans to end the agitation for Biafra.

Recall that the Senate Chief Whip, in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, told President Muhammadu Buhari that he can convince the IPOB leader to come to Nigeria and end Biafra agitation.

The lawmaker added that Kanu will listen to him and stop the altercation between IPOB members and security personnel in the South-East

But reacting to the statement made by Orji Kalu, the IPOB leader, during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra on Wednesday evening, warned the Senator against coming to convince him to end the agitation of Biafra.

He noted that anybody coming to him with the intention of convincing him to drop the idea of Biafra will receive the treatment Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President, got in Germany last year.

Kanu warned that he has not mandated anybody to speak on his behalf to meet with the Nigerian government nor representative to negotiate to stop Biafra agitation.

The IPOB leader added that he will only meet the Nigerian government to show him the boundaries of “Biafra land and sign the necessary documents”

He said: “Anybody coming to me with intention of convincing me to drop the idea of Biafra, I can assure you what happened to Ike Ekweremadu will be a child’s play to such an individual. This is the era of saboteurs and we must be very careful.

“I have not mandated anybody to speak on my behalf or myself to meet with Nigeria government nor representative to negotiate to stop Biafra agitation. I will only meet the Nigerian government to show me the boundaries of Biafra land and sign the necessary documents.”

Senator Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has revealed that members of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group killed 75 members of his community in Gwoza LGA in one night.

He made this known on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by Senate Committee on Special Duties and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Maiduguri.

Ndume, who has been consistently vocal on the insecurity suffered by his district, stated that challenges faced by the people of Borno State were not adequately reported.

“If the Senate Committee would take time during their stay to go round some of the camps and even the nearby Konduga local government, we would all better appreciate what the people are facing,” he said.

“Even as a serving senator, I still cannot go to Gwoza my home town because it is not safe.

“Our security operatives are trying their bests, and we have to give it to them. But the situation is overwhelming. People are dying every day, either from attacks or by hunger. We have lost many lives here.

“There was a time in my home town Gwoza, that about 75 elders most of whom I know personally were dragged by Boko Haram to the town’s abattoir and slaughtered like animals.

“Only two persons survived because their bodies were covered with other people’s’ blood and the assailants thought they were dead.

“In the same Gwoza, Boko Haram had in a single day lined up young men and summarily shot them dead. These were just some stand out cases.”

Ndume, a former Senate leader, also lamented the issue of hunger in Borno State.

According to the APC chieftain, the hunger situation could have been worse had there not been non-governmental organisations in Borno.

“We don’t know where we would have been or what would have happened to us in Borno State, had there not been the NGOs.

“People die every day here, and I can assure you that even today or this evening, someone may have died of hunger. I am not talking about children – I mean adults,” he said.
