The lack of education is a purposeful thing. Incase you dont know.

Theres a reason why education is bleeped up here. Education builds character and power with this you can challenge anything.

So keep them illiterate and they cannot challenge us
And that is why I said it's up to us to change Nigeria and not some old people at Aso rock, the little I can help, I give them that education they are lacking.

After I finished my high school in 2005, I wanted to work and make money, so I was directed to a now defunct bank(Oceanic Sapele Road Branch, Benin City) to meet someone there to get a job as a janitor.

I went there and met this man, he told me my salary will be N6, 000, but I must pay him N4,000 cash before I get the job. I told him I had no money as I just finished my high school and then told him to deduct it from my first salary in that case - it was as if I insulted him by saying that. He said no way that he is going to have to give the job to someone who can pay him. That was how I didn't get that job. It changed a whole lot for me at that point.

Fast forward to about 15 years later, I landed in America with an immigrant visa. All I needed to apply for a job was a social security number (other than my visa). Started applying for different one online. I even got one without an interview - all that was needed to know was that I was legal, drug-free and able to work. That was it! No bribe, no payment of any sort.

Now, among many other injustices and harsh life the average Nigerian man and woman has to endure, tell me why I should regret leaving. Listen, I am not saying my life is perfect here, but I have a lot to be grateful for.

My only regret is not being able to bring all my family with me.

My only regret is staying too long
Re: What Are Your Regrets For Leaving Nigeria? by Focusmind: 6:04pm On Feb 21, 2020
All these comments makes some of us that wants to remain in Nigeria look insane. I had all the opportunity to leave Nigeria but just couldn't. I seems to be in charge of my affairs and life here in Nigeria.

What I did was to give citizenship to my kids by having them abroad but all of us are still in Nigeria.

I seems to be relatively ok and enjoying my consultancy job with the little freedom it offers me.

I wouldn't want to start life again. I did my masters in UK more than 10 years ago, but still came back because of family and boredom.

For now, no regret staying back in Nigeria. I believe strongly that my success and fulfilment will come here. The future is bright and the right contacts are also being made.

I remain HERE!

Not actual regrets....more like things I miss. I miss the easy-going nature of life and work in Naija. The " I can't come and kill myself" factor. After a few years of working in certain sectors in certain cities, you have to tell yourself to slowdown. I miss my old friends too and the many hangouts in Lagos and Ibadan. Hard to get everyone in one place when you visit now as folks are married with kids and responsibilities. I miss the food .. sometimes. Yeah, its available but to get authentic asun and suya is such a chore. fresh palmwine is a pipe dream and correct mortar-flavored pounded yam is a mirage. sometimes i miss the "lawlessness" when you want things done in a hurry also but that's something being eradicated from the system. Generally , Nigeria may have its severe challenges but its a great place to be and miss . Had the experience of going back to my favorite haunts in Ibadan recently and i was like a child again.

Same here. I'm going for my driving test soon and the whole thing makes me miss Naija's lawlessness. In Nigeria we get used to getting around things by paying for it.

Just imagine... and you expect Nigeria to be better.

Again, the biggest problem of Nigeria are Nigerians! Olofo! angry

Like many people have said, my regret is not leaving immediately I rounded up my youth service. I was so keen on living and making it in Nigeria that I started my business during NYSC in 2015, you can check my profile to verify. It was not until I got scammed and the Police demanded huge sums of bribes and 10 percent of my money if recovered that I realised that Nigeria was not for me. I eventually worked as a bank teller and I faced all kinds of discrimination because of my HND certificate, despite graduating with distinction. I took the bold decision to relocate to Germany in 2018 as a student and so far it is the best decision I have ever taken. The things I have achieved in 1 year living here and doing student jobs is more than what I achieved in 5 years living in Nigeria. My advice is if you can, migrate legally to developed western countries else you will be going in circles in Nigeria. Nigeria is favourable only to the rich not the middle class.

What's the nature of the student job please?

But dont forget from that 300 Million naira revenue this business man makes per annum.

In current Nigerian situation, at least 30 million will cost him keeping his kids out of naija for education and medicals and also for security cost (employ meguard, military escort, bullet proof vehicles ) that's not even guaranteed when the family are in Nigeria.

Even thou in the last four years ive been having serious thought and making provision and plans for future naija relocation.

But hey its very sad to say its not looking good in nigeria. It doesn't matter if you are in nigeria with 1 billion dollars in your account. as long as there is no peace in the land Noone is guaranteed peace including the rich..... shocked

Na person wey no get money dey complain say Nigeria Na shit hole. Whilst things are bad in Nigeria, there should be no regrets for staying back or leaving Nigeria if you really know what you are doing. A business man who does like 300 million Naira in revenue or say 2 million dollars can visit any country with no stress. It’s all about finding your vision and pursuing it.

Which kind thread is this that op won't just let sleeping dogs lie? Reminding those abroad isn't it more like reopening a wound that refuses to heal?
Isn't there a general consensus already that everyone trapped in this closet is seeking an escape route?
No one dares go back to his vomit, even Chinese won't for any reason.

Interesting question. It doesn't apply to me because I was born abroad. However, if I was to asked my parents they would say family. For instance, my mother never knew the day she left Nigeria and waved her dad away would be last time she would see him again. My father came to the UK during the early 80s, lost both his parents in the mid-80s. No such thing as camera phones or Skype etc back then so contact was limited.

See my long lost sibling I have been looking for

Finally God has united us

Have visited Nigeria four times. Mom is Nigerian from Imo State, and she thought me Igbo language and culture. I love the culture. I can write and speak Igbo fluently. I love the village so much. There you can actually eat fruits from the organic trees. My grand mother doesn't buy vegetables from the grocery store. She gets them from the backyard garden. I also love the bushes and the local streams. I love Igbo language. My mom always made sure I learn it, and I have been so grateful that I can speak and write it. I speak Spanish and little German. My college friend Bolla thought me some Yooruba language as well. I regret leaving my cousins and the village. I dont like Nigerian cities, always reminds me of India when I visited. Too crowdy, noisy, dirty, and dangerous drivers.

Finally I found myself my dream wife

you are saying this because you don’t have money simple. How much is 30 million? Will you tell Dangote about peace. Dangote too much self. I have worked for billionaires and even guys that don’t have billions self. They are living life. Will you tell Davido that Nigeria is shit hole. Dude is making his money. Same with million others. Again, Na person wey no get money dey rant about naija. If you get money you go no say naija Na people and people Na naija. Same with other nations. It’s all people. Find you niche bro and don’t have any regrets about some set of people!
