If good governance had always consolidated upon the work of previous good leadership then we would not be where we are today.

Needing to refurbish intra-State rail network , that was built well in the first place, is a hell of a lot cheaper than having to begin from scratch because such never existed to begin with in virtually all States of Nigeria !!!! Virtually everything has to be developed from scratch because of lack of investments in vital socio-economic sector over decades !!!!

You guys don't get these sort of simple concepts because you are about politics of tribalism, hate and enmity. When your people are not in government you just criticism the current Government blindly and without any objectivity whatsoever. Look below to gain perspective over real figures so you can appreciate your own mumuism before rushing to insult others.

To even reinstate what is available to an acceptable standard, to begin the move towards optimal power supply, $10 billion is needed. If the Government propose borrowing this amount, a drop in the ocean considering the total needed over three decades, mumus like you will shout. You then wonder why we remain in darkness when the simple reality is that several truckloads of money, that Nigeria does not have and cant make, is now required to reverse decades of decay and poor investment in all critical sectors. ‘Nigeria needs $900 billion to fix energy sector in 30 years’
By Sulaimon Salau
13 April 2016 | 2:46 am

powerPower supply challenges may jeopardise vision 2020 agenda
For Nigeria to properly fix the challenges bedevilling its energy sector, the nation requires about $ 900 billion to further develop the sector over the next 30 years.

The statistics revealed by the organisers of the on-going Nigeria Energy Forum at Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, said the nation also needed no fewer than $ 10 billion in the next few years to reinstate its power infrastructure.

According to Innovation and Strategy Lead official, Mrs Bamise Olanrewaju, the forum, which focused on “Energy Access Targets”, is targeted at ensuring that leaders take ambitious decisions to bridge the wide gap between energy demand and supply in Nigeria, in order to achieve national energy access targets and meet the new United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.

Olanrewaju, in statement made available to The Guardian said, in other to attract private investment in the sector, “Nigeria has to build new power plants, develop new gas transmission infrastructure, expand the existing electricity transmission and distribution network, develop local manufacturing capabilities for energy systems equipment, and train professionals to operate and maintain the energy system”.

Besides, she added that government also needed to develop innovative incentives and mechanisms to leverage private sector investment for development of the energy sector.

Lamenting the poor state of the sector in recent times, she pointed out that Nigeria is currently the largest economy in Africa with a population of over 170 million people, of which about 50 per cent of the population have no access to the national electricity grid and only 18 per cent of people living in rural areas have grid access.

“The nation has a peak electricity demand of 13000 Mega Watts with an installed on-grid generation capacity of 7500 MW, of which only 4000 MW is operable. About 90 per cent of industrial consumers and a significant number of residential and non-residential consumers provide their own power at huge cost to themselves and the Nigerian economy,” she stated.

These technical barriers, according to her, would constrain economic growth and setback Nigeria’s target of being among the world’s top 20 economies by 2020.

To address these grand challenges, the Federal Government has been implementing a Power Sector Reform to privatize electricity generation and distribution companies, increase private investment and develop a market-based economy for the power sector.

NEF 2016 is hosted on the platform of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

The group however lamented that women are adversely affected by the lack of renewable energy solutions, as they are most often the primary energy managers in their households.

“This is especially true in developing countries, where women do the cooking and cleaning but lack access to electricity. They often use unsafe methods like kerosene or fires,” it stated.

The north is over doing this Nigeria domination thing.

One of the key points he talked about was the allocation and projects for the loan is lopsided to favour one part of the country.

Is that how its supposed to be?

Buhari is overdoing this nepotism and tribalism.

The Niger bridge is just one of such projects that need to be done and I don't think you need to borrow to complete that project.

Truth is bitter. I don't need to cuddle.

Such humongous monies should go into strategic projects devoid of sentiment that would set this country on the path of economic self sufficiency and industrialisation.

If you use that money to build northern roads, rails and bridges to nowhere, you are all on your own.

The p is that we have a triabalistic president..

Yes,he will award nd pay for very good strategic projects...but they will all b in the north....

Nd the next 8 years of southern rule will b used for re-payment

U spoke intelligently but u refused to see the main argument here.

One of the points Abariba brought up was the fact that the break down of the loan, and the allocations to the regions and zones are extremely lopsided. If you go through the loan details u won't be surprised if the North gets 70 percent of projects, the west 15 percent, the SS 10 and the east 5.

If the Senate leader has nothing to hide why doesn't the senate leader want an open scrutiny of the budget?

Or is it only the north that will pay it back?

Why cant we all reason together and do things with equity. Why must one region want to always cheat the other?

The north is already benefitting massively from Buharis govt, now he wants to take alone that would majorly benefit them.

Omen this is cheating now.

If half of the money is needed, some may be for debt servicing, next 5 years we will borrow to service another debt.

Firstly, I congratulate Emefiele as the luckiest man this time around. He should be very grateful to God. He witnessed the last minute looting by PDP and he is also around when the North is carrying out the massive looting. People should differentiate APC from South West on what is currently happening in Nigeria. The South East / South South inherited economy when Yaradua was sick.

The Jonathan government that sold oil above $100 / barrel expected to have added about $60 billion or more to the estimated $50 billion Obj left when oil was less than $100/barrel. Obj met oil at $9 per barrel and $5.5 billion in foreign reserve with huge debt. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and her kinsmen (Abaribe inclusive) did not save one Kobo, spent every kobo, borrowed heavily and spent part of the reserve Obj left leaving about $25 billion as at May 29, 2015. That was a great fraud.

This time around, Fulani / Hausa came looking for money to loot. Abba Kyari and NSA fighting mainly because of security contract deals.

Soludo and Bismarck Rewane economic team needs to inform us about their stand on this loan and how the loan would be paid back. We need a breakdown of the loan showing how it would be invested, monitored and rate of returns on its investment.

Until Prof Soludo and Bismarck Rewane team tell us their own professional view and stand, the loan is a fraud. The Senate has been lobbied (anticipated settlement) as usual.

Majority of the loan will go into the development of Northern part, Security issue, created by the North and huge embezzlement by the Hausa Fulani.

Nigeria is a failed state , nothing works normally. There is no logic in taking such loan which generations unborn cannot pay back. It is a preparation for an end of tenure settlement. Preparation for 2023. .

Nigeria is a failed state. The South West leaders should be very proactive. Those slaves that wear the caps of their religious masters to religious functions in South West should be very careful.
