He died because he is a Nigerian and lived in a country with weak health system.

He wouldn't have died if he was a South African or lives there.

When I watch NatGeo wide! I see how dogs are treated of snakes bite talk more of humans.

Our life expectancy in this part of the world is indeed low.

Don't blame those migrating out of Nigeria to Canada and other countries.

Security of life, high life expectancy, good medical care and assured future are the motivation.

Rest In Peace young man. Your nation failed you.

SMH.
Learn more about snake venoms before you put down your country.

This is a lie
Even in south Africa u will die if they dont have the anti venom
Snake bites are dangerous anywhere in the world if the sample of the venom is not available to have the anti venom ready

Leave Nigeria out of it
That is why it is advised to capture a snake for devenoming it for emergency cases like this..oyibo wey dey do am no be fools..they catch those snakes and use their venom to produce antivenin to combat snake bites..

the minute venom enter the bloodstream, its usually too late to cut the hand... unless you do that the same minute he was bitten. the stress/running to native doctor made his heart beat faster thus making the venom travel faster in his bloodstream
A tourniquet would have sufficed.

It’s deadly but not the most deadliest. Not when there is Forest cobra, Mozambique spiting cobra, green mamba, King Cobra, black mamba and the Oga kpata kpata inland taipan. One bit from any of these snakes especially black mamba and inland taipan; you are gone.

From the photo I can tell that’s a full grown Gabon viper with horns. Jeez! shocked.
They are not the deadliest..what makes them fearsome is the deep bite they deliver because of their long fangs..they have the longest known fang in the snake kingdom.

Nigerians love to kill snakes, Now a snake has killed one of them....

Sassygem101, You see what I was telling you on your thread??

The fact this thread made it to FP was not because a precious soul was lost, but because it has a snake Content in it.......
Let's save the snakes...

Please, know this:
When a snake bites you, loosen your belt or get a rope and tie the part that leads to the rest of your body.
2) get a knife or blade and cut the point of bite open. Suck the blood from there. DO NOT SWALLOW!!!
3) Head for the hospital.

I guess there are faster ways to make antivenin than using horses

Not necessarily when you attack. They bite if they feel threatened. So you might just be walking without knowing they are there and they strike. If you or they get too close for their comfort, they strike! It doesn't matter whether you attack first or not.
But the documentary I watched on TV said that snakes are one of the most afraid scrolling animal. When they sensed human they run and it is common experience while growing up, they always run. They don't attack, that's why a snake can shelter in your house for years without you knowing. If they are bad, when you are sleeping they will have a free lunch of your body. They only attack when you mistakenly or intentionally marched or hit them and they do that with fear. Even from that story, the guy mistakenly cut the snake and the snake sting him in self defence.

Lesson to those who think local herbs are more reliable than Orthodox drugs! Herbal medicines are based mainly on trial and error. The practitioners in most cases are not sure if these herbs work.

Simply rushing this man to a hospital and administering either a polyvalent or monovalent anti snake venom would have saved him.

RIP to you sir. You have paid the price of being born into a cave called Nigeria!

First aid, bodily fluids, stabilization etc can be done b4 moving him to a bigger hospital
The system doesn't work. With no ambulance to stabilise and move to a good hospital, how will it work?

Over 95% of Nigerians won't know what to do if they found someone choking or if he suddenly collapsed. Even parents considering risk of choking in kids. They will first run away. Then come back to take pictures and videos. grin

Such a patient should be eventually airlifted to the regional antivenom specialist unit. Be it in Enugu, Owerri or wherever if Ebonyi has none.

Lord have mercy. Well if we have any anti venom in any hospital it shud be for that snake cos it’s too common short and fat, unless we have none at all.

That’s my point.

I know at least 3 people that were bitten by poisonous snake and they survived !
Anti venom are readily available in most hospitals .
Nigerians and fake news . Eh!
Spreading fake news with so much energy . Abah !
What do you stand to gain ?

Ikr. If snakes are native to a certain area..the hospitals around should defo have anti-venom.

I know nigeria is bad, but not that bad

Adders and Gaboon are both viperids. Both are vipers. He didn't say Gaboon viper. Just viper. Viperids are many and widely distributed worldwide.
Different sizes, different geographical distributions, climate, etc. Viper is one of the few snakes found naturally in UK and some similarly temperate countries. Virtually the only venomous indegineous UK snake.

Animal activists, shey una see why we dey kill snake anytime we come across them. these creatures are dangerous, once they trespass to your territory, kill them!! Don't listen to any nonsense animal activists.

A serious country will educate it's citizens on how to deal with these snakes, develop anti venoms..Hate it or love it, the key issue here is we will continue to have more bites from vipers littered all over W . Africa no matter how many you kill...

The corruptNigerian government will not even bother because it cost research and money to develop anti venom..People have been bitten by far more dangerous snakes ( black mamba) in Southern African countries than the Gaboon and they survived thanks to availability of anti venoms in those countries..

May his soul RIP..
