Jaqenhghar:

Like I always say. If the conditions dont favour You, quit the job. Go to UK.Go to the Canada. If Doctors quit en masse shey government will sit up.

2. Let's not be vague who are the "government" who does not provide them with equipment. Minister for health no be doctor? The CMDs who chop money is it not their fellow doctors? Like I pointed out in a post the person who said doctors should go to farm was it not a fellow doctor? The one who ignorantly said they should go if they want that we have enough doctors, is it not their fellow doctor?

Then why must we tax payers suffer becaise their colleagues are fùcking Up?

They wont address the problem where it is but it is to punish innocent people. Same as the soldiers and police

Sir I think you should understand that these 'colleagues' of theirs you mentioned are full-fledged members of the government in power.

It's just like those Benue doctors that were sacked. Wasn't it a 'colleague' of theirs who sacked them too?

Really sad story .

Fever, breathlessness, chest pain - it's not unwise to think corona virus .

Should health workers be running from covid?
I wouldn't think so with adequate protection.

'Is it safe to approach ? ' is one of the guiding principle for any emergency.
Those health workers should be punished for negligence if they have been provided with appropriate protection by their employers. Otherwise, this might just be another number to our terrible health indices.

Tragic.

To be candid though, I'd rather put the blame on the failed government than on the medical personnel. The behaviour of the medical personnel towards the man's wife is a fallout of the government's refusal to provide them with equipment for fighting this virus.
Stop covering up for them.
Government has its own blame, but not this.

They refused to make attempt at stabilizing a patient. As soon as she died, PPE came out from no where. If you know how many patients die by doctors and nurses nonchalance, inefficiency, negligence and stubbornness you won't say this.

In st Joseph maternity and FMC all in Asaba, I have heard of patients that just died by the negligence of medical workers

Nigerian hospitals....may God help us. I can't start to relay my own experience when m Dad was admitted at Babcock hospital , ilishan. Ogun state. The place needs to be flattened, its not an hospital . its just a money making cemetery........Shame on Nigeria health system. I dont even know if we have a health regulatory body or a Care quality body.

What a sad loss, yet many idiots supported the nigerian doctors who object to the Chinese doctors coming to the country, claiming they can handle things on their own. Pride comes before a fall

Is the bolded a fact sir?

As for insinuating I'm 'covering up for them', how so?

Tell me who wouldn't join in condemning them if they had PPE but refused to attend to her.

But why didn't you take her out of the hospital when you found out she was neglected, why did you watched her die like that, why ??

Take her to where? Did you not read she was moved from park lane to unth? Those 2 are the biggest and most equipped hospitals in Enugu being state and federal teaching hospitals respectively. It is a pity the wife died but the is the true situation of any major sickness in Nigeria now. The private hospital will not even allow you come down from the car before referring you to teaching hospital.

FOR THOSE OF YOU YOU BELIEVE THE DECEPTION OF BOHARI AND HIS FELLOW CLUELESS MEN WHO WERE BEATING THEIR CHEST THAT THEY WERE READY, READ THIS

From the chairman covid-19 taskforce:

We just ended another meeting of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. Today marked the inaugural meeting of the Presidential Taskforce National Pandemic Response Centre. I think it is important to let us know that the country is about to witness turbulent times induced by the pandemic coronavirus. We may soon be hard hit. The reason for this is that, we, I mean the Nigerian Government, delayed in taking proactive action at the onset.

However, I can assure us that the government is serious about taking necessary steps to curtail the level of casualties. Well coordinated measures are about to be put in place from a broad, diverse spectrum. All the necessary Working Groups have been inaugurated today. International bodies such as WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, CDC, World Bank, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as the private sector, civil society groups are partnering the Taskforce, providing technical and financial assistance and support. Donations are quite streaming in. From Global Fund we got $33m, another $3.3m came from another body I cannot give the name immediately. Max Air donated $200,000, the Chinese firm, Huawei, doled out #100m. There are a number of other handsome donations. We have been holding these meetings with some foreign experts. In the next few days, more concrete action will become manifest. All relevant institutions are being mobilized for action to tackle the scourge. The taskforce is also galvanizing the State Governments to ensure their is effective collaboration and cooperation.

More importantly, the purpose of this message is to give us the privileged information that a complete lockdown of the country is imminent. *Soon, very soon, perhaps, this weekend, this will take effect and may last for at least 14 days.* Therefore, I advise us to immediately make adequate arrangements for our families. Thank you and may God Almighty help Nigeria and Nigerians in these trying moments. Remain blessed.

*Dr Aliyu. Chairman Presidential Task Force on Covid 19*

We do not have a national database due to the skewed nature of this miserable project called Nigeria. Due to that, we lack a national medical database.
These things I stated above are part of the reasons your wife died.

With the nature of your wife's symptoms that you described, how do you expect a poorly motivated uninsured doctor who feels so 'lucky' to be resident at UNTH to get your wife's medical history from mere "word of mouth" under this CORO period.

Nigeria failed the health system and the health system in return failed you and many other including one oga at the top.

Accept my sympathy while we pray for a peaceful repose of her soul.

OdefaGirl:
"Doctors At UNTH Watched My Wife Die Like A Foul Without Helping Her For Fear Of Coronavirus"

-Husband

A 40-year-old man, Mr Nwachukwu Alagbu, has accused medical doctors at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital UNTH, Ituku Ozalla, Enugu state, of killing his wife for the fear of been contracting the dreaded Coronavirus.

The man who cried profusely over the death of his wife with four children behind, explain to our Correspondent that; “my wife, late Mrs Nkiru Alagbu, was a 35-year-old woman who developed cardiovascular disorder shortly after her last child more than a year ago.

“Her medical condition had been waxing and waning, especially after every treatment.

“In January 2020, my wife developed the following symptoms: fever, breathlessness, chest pain, morbid weakness, and excessive sweating and loss of appetite. Her illness made my lovely wife visit so many hospitals until Tuesday (14th April 2020) when she had to be referred to a diagnostic Clinic in Enugu for some investigations.

“Right there, the good-spirited Consultant in that Clinic promptly referred her to a cardiologist for immediate attention when he noticed her major health challenge was cardiovascular disease”.

Continuing, Alagbu said “this action heralded our travails. For the avoidance of doubt, my wife and I had not traveled outside Enugu and Anambra States in the last five years. We had never come in contact with anyone diagnosed or suspected of having COVID-19.

“Unfortunately, by the period we got to the private hospital in Enugu in the morning on 15-04-2020, we were directed to Enugu State University Teaching Hospital Parklane GRA, Enugu. At ESUTH Parklane, they informed us their hospital did not have a functional Trolley or wheelchair to wheel my wife to the ward and that the hospital wards were full without empty beds.

“In frustration, I immediately took her to UNTH, Ituku/Ozalla. That was where the worst happened. A doctor came and from a prescribe social distance asked some few questions. Quickly, he concluded that, it was a case of COVID-19. Immediately myself, my brother’s wife and a family friend who offered to accompany us to the hospital started crying because none of the medical personnel on duty in the hospital Emergency cared to assist after my late wife was tagged a COVID-19 case. At this time my wife whispered to my ear, that I should not allow her die. I saw my wife in pain and she keep telling me that she would not die. I cried my eyes out when i learnt that the consultant cardiologist called UNTH, informing them to admit my wife for him. That he was coming to take over her treatment, but they ignored him, saying my wife was a Coronavirus patient.

“Within a short while, after the doctor made that COVID-19 proclamation, all the medical personnel disappeared. No one bothered to come close to her while she was lying in the car helpless. And after waiting for more than 30 minutes, I saw my brother’s wife ( A Consultant’ wife) crying uncontrollably, and handing her phone to a doctor so that the husband could explain the health situation of my wife to him.

“My brother later informed me what the doctor said. He said that they had started making efforts to contact the COVID-19 medical team that would handle the case of my wife.

“He told me that the doctor he spoke with on the phone was so rude and that that UNTH doctor started accusing him of threatening him after informing him that he had to make efforts to sustain the sick alive while they make their efforts at confirming or ruling out the COVID-19.

“All attempts made by my brother to convince them that my wife was not a COVID-19 case proved abortive”, Alagbu added.

He continued: “I have never felt so incapacitated like this since I was born some 40 years ago. I saw my wife die like a foul in a hospital, and the doctors turned their backs at her and worked away without pity or compassion, he wept.

“They allowed my wife to die unattended to, all in the name of fear of COVID-19. Medical doctors watched my wife die like a soulless being. I thought it was a local movie playing when I could not get help from the Government Hospital, simply because the doctors felt my wife had COVID-19 symptom.

“I knew the worst could have happened. But, I kept calm. To my most considerable chagrin, it took the person of the Chief Medical Director of the hospital to attend to her personally and certify her dead after the sick had been in the hospital for hours without the desired attention.

“It is a sad history in my whole life watching the mother of my children died like a foul. The hospital could not open a folder or card. She came to the hospital, died after about three hours while in a car”.

At that point, Nkiru’s body was taken away from UNTH Enugu to a private mortuary.

While calling on Enugu state governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), to urgently intervened on the matter, Mr. Alagbu, asked If indeed the case was a COVID-19 case, “how come there were no efforts put in place for sample collection even after death, what measures did the hospital put in place to safeguard the mortuary staff?, Why did it take the hospital hours to wear their PPE and attend to the patient? What is the hope of ordinary men in our Nigeria hospital today? How come the whole fear of COVID-19 disappeared as soon as the patient died? I am heart-wrecked because my wife died leaving behind four children, the eldest is 11 year old.

“This wicked doctors watched my wife die like a foul for a purported fear of COVID-19”, he cried via telephone.

When contacted on the allegation the chairman UNTH, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Valentine Ogwu, he said he was in a meeting and promised to called back which he never did after several calls and text messages.

For your wife to have died within 3 hours of being brought to the hospital, it means she was almost dead before referral to the hospital. She has been ill since January- about 3 months.
I doubt if much could have been done to help her especially since she also seems to be having symptoms of covid with an underlying heart condition.
While I know it hurts to see your loved one abandoned by those you hoped would save her, the times we're in has everyone under confusion.
Some hospital staff too are high risk groups with asthma, diabetes, kidney problems etc and they also have their own underlying health conditions. It would be foolhardy to go to a suspected covid patient and try to be a saviour.
I hope the hospital management will at least provide their staff with enough PPEs, special training for all Drs on how to wear PPEs and handle suspected covid patients.
This is a war folks, so the earlier we realise our almost dead health system will not save us, the better.
if you have any relative who is elderly or who has any existing medical condition, ensure they stay indoors and even exercise indoors, if possible let them stay in their rooms (if you have space big enough) and help meet their needs from outside. Be careful you dont go out and bring covid in for them too

Our main prayer in this country to pray against the massive case of this disease because if it get out of hand people will die like fowl, imagine our medical experts that supposed to be in front line are already skeptical, wat is now the faith of corona cirus patient.

Don't blame these people Jor. This same doctors and nurse would do better if they were employed abroad. Cos their lives are insured. They are well paid, and their health is considered first. In this situation, they would have been provided with protective wears to protect them from contacting the virus. This doctors are humans too. They have family, they worked hard to get to where they are, do u expect them to risk their lives without measures and risk their lives and that of their loved ones? Think again abeg
