To train a child is a big stress, now adding a dog to it. Risking your children's life because you wan turn to Oyinbo. Na Oyinbo I know wey dey love animals like children, but Africans must copy. People are starting to own cats now sef. I pity all of you, be romancing dogs enh,be copying white people. I won't pity you when the dog harms you or your family member.

The time you used for disturbing your brain with yeye dog behaviour, you can invest it in your children, by monitoring their behaviour, read child psychology books. If I should ask most of you, what psyche stage is your child, you probably don't know.
At every childs stage, there are things to do for each child to bringforth some behaviors or erase some behaviors. Most bad temperaments starts from early childhood, as well as some adults behaviors that are as a result of some things as early as when the child is a year's old. Men just want to be naturally useless and give all the parenting role to mothers.
Buy psychology books and read about your child, I'm tired of seeing stingy adults, people that can't be contended, sluts, heart breakers, criminals, it all starts from the HOME and early childhood. Don't be a useless parent and later start blaming witches and wizards if your child start misbehaving, or blaming it on TEENHOOD. Children nowadays could start smoking, thanks to exposure to sites like Nairaland if not well monitored, they can start thinking their gays, lesbians etc. Some Agbaya on NL is busy promoting smoking, protect your child from such people through good monitoring, discipline and training.

Your comment is good but smoking is not bad either. Nice comment

Dog Lovers, Please I Need Advise On My Rott's Naughty Behavior

I have a one and a half year old Rottweiler named Gift and I don't understand him anymore. We can't chastise him again when he misbehaves because he bares his teeth and growls menacingly at us if we try to spank him for being naughty. He welcomes us when we come home like any loyal, loving pet, but yesterday he shocked me. Usually as we are about to enter the house he playfully holds one foot down so we can't enter, or he jumps on you and hugs you tight so you can't move. When I got back from work yesterday I was exhausted and I didn't have energy for his play so I hugged him briefly but as I entered the house I mistakenly stepped on his right hindpaw.

He howled, left me, and lunged at me, this time to bite me. He actually narrowly missed my arm.

I was mad. I turned and yelled "Gift are you mad?" He bared his fangs and barked at me. Me sef I bared my teeth at him and ordered him to stand down. He growled, me sef I growled back. Do you know this dog kept advancing menacingly at me and barking? I quickly borrowed myself brain and locked the door. Werey dog.

I can't shoo Matilda, my chicken in his presence. He covers her with his body and warns me away. And now, the most perplexing thing is he now marking every where in the compound. My sib came visiting and before he entered the house, he quickly relieved himself outside because he was very pressed. Do you know Gift went to where the dude urinated and peed on top? It has gotten so bad now that Gift entered the house and marked different sections of the corridor and smaller dining area with pee.

Now, I don't know if this is classic Rott behavior or if he is just being indisciplined. I confess we spoilt him a bit because he is such a sweet animal when he is not misbehaving.

How do we discipline a dog that has grown wings? He is well socialised so it's not a case of too much isolation.

Wait... Why is no one talking about the fact that you have a pet chicken grin grin

This is a typical rot behaviour. Always bossy and aggressive. Bro let me tell you something. Your dog as grown wings. Before this year runs out that dog will eat or mercilessly bite someone around that area to a point of death. When my own started behaving like that. I sold her out to all those Calabar men that usual eat dog. Do the same before the dog change am for you. But if you stay in those parts of Lagos that have security challenges. Now is the best time to have such dogs around you.

I'm not an expert on this, but just like everyone who makes this statement is won't to do, I'll give you an expert opinion still.
*Find professional advice your dog might be suffering from early infection of rabies. Rabies causes aggression in dogs.
*Also your dog might be trying to impress Lady Matilda the chicken, I hope thats not the case, my guts tells me it though, which of cause makes it a fool of unequalled measure, because no where in recorded history has there been any such amorous relationship. Say dog go dey chyk chicken. not that I know of..
*Finally ask yourself if you can't shush your dog whoelse will, is it the visitors that will come visiting , and you mentioned when you try to shout it down it growls back, so imagine a situation where a visited is being threatened by the rebellious beast and you can't control it, omo if na me, I go call pow-lace for una two.

P s don't bare your teeth at a dog any dog it's a sign of challenge, hell they don't like you looking them in the eyes either especially when they are looking to attack.

Dogs know good and bad. The way we trained our Caucasian dog , if she does anything good,I spoil her silly . If she does bad , I will carry a cane which I always keep on the roof of her cage and call her name. Once she sees me with the cane I will tell her to go to her cage, normal level, she knows she will chop cane die. So ,she will carry me to run round the compound, the moment my eye change she will enter her cage and go to the extreme end and fold up. At that moment, I will tell her what she did and spank her, funny enough I don’t spank her beyond two soft strokes to remind her that we own her and she must obey us.Most times I carry whatever she destroys to her face while I spank her. In terms of pooing in restricted places, I willl take her there and show her then spank her there. I will then release her to her cage where she will go and reflect on her wrong doings. Most of them, she never repeated after that treatment.
We lost her recently and I cried like a human being died. She was a companion and a friend, a dog with the heart of a child. She could sense emotions (pain and happiness)
I understand how you feel, so sorry for your loss.

You seems to be stepping down every proven advice given to you here. @Gabrokpala001 and some others have said it all. Either you take or leave it. One thing I know is that this dog will surely do the unthinkable against you or your household one day if care is NOT taken cry

I have two giant Caucasian security dogs (M & F) and can vividly tell you about dogs character. I reared them from young. I equally researched about training dogs and that helped a lot. The secret is simple, maintain the 'Alpha' role. Don't take shit no matter how small. Chaining from puppy stage is good! Too much pampering is bad!!

When my Stud was around 1.5 years old, tried some funny character towards my son one time. Made sure I drove him into his cage and used the opportunity to hammer him from outside. Since then, his brain reset to natural factory mode. Anytime he sees my boy now the next is to start wagging his tail.

Let me tell you something you never have heard before: Dogs are like human beings and have a very matured brain, that is why they have a powerful sense of recognition and smell. If you disagree with them, they also know and learn to adjust. They know when you're scared and would want to capitalize on your weakness by putting you down.

Again, Rotts are usually not a good pet dog. I will advise you change him with another breed. To suggest, may be GSD pure breed.
Please can i see pictures of your caucs?

My dear rott is a guard dog and not a pet dog. Very aggressive one at that. The attitude it's displaying to you isn't new cos it's he's nature....if you need a pet dog, something you can cuddle play with and even create a room for it in your apartment, I'll suggest you go for Lhasa Apso. They're fun loving and easy to train. My cousin recently got one of them as a birthday gift for his 6 years old daughter.

For that rott I'll advise you to sell it. Your safety comes first. Marking where someone urinated is it's own way of telling you that he's alpah. Don't let your emotions for it cloud your better judgement. That dog is challenging your authority. One day he'll lash out aggressively at you.

Rotts are notorious for attacking and even killing their owners that's why some countries have limited them to serve as guards on private property... etc.

Just sell it Biko to avoid stories that touch the heart....stay safe.

Two things determines how ur dog will turn out,
1. parent traits
2. Owner personality + trainning
its either yu bring in a trainer or you bond him with a dog that as temperament. when ur cool dog sees d other dog barking vigorously biting the iron cage dramatizing whenever a stranger steps into the compound ... he will learn n pickup cos bad influence dey sweet.

Your comment is good but smoking is not bad either. Nice comment
Thanks for your complement. But smoking is bad, has no purpose. Lets consider it has no health dangers, it's a waste of time.
Even foods sometimes is a waste of time, and can be harmful if taken in excess without caution. You shouldn't be eating foods you don't need, for instance, I do not see the benefit of Fufu/Akpu for someone living a sedentary lifestyle, meanwhile its a necessity for someone doing hard labour.
The facial expression of smokers is abnormal, most teenagers smokes because of Ego amidst friends, which is a negative thing,as your actions shouldn't be decided by ego.

Smoking is addictive, Sir/ma, even if it is exessive talking that you are addicted to, you should stop. You shouldnt engage in anything that would control you.

Lastly, smoking is dangerous, it makes you less human, and distort your thinking. Also, there's no reason to be inhaling gas, when you can use that time for something positive

Ur dog has Castle syndrome which makes it feel like d leader of d pack,it's born frm indiscipline, rotts, pitbulls and other big aggressive breeds tend to develop this if their behaviour remain unchecked... U didn't train d dog wit a firm hand nd u allowed it misbehave 2 d point that it nw feels bigga Dan u,any form of u trying to caution at dis stage might lead to ur oga attacking u lol... The markings its doin is also proof of the dog showing its territoriality... At this stage u hav to be very careful, ur dog can be saved but it requires careful, guided and patient handling of the whole thing

Thanks a lot. So this is the transition someone mentioned on the first page? This naughty behavior started just recently, sometime this year. Thank you for the heads-up.

The challenge is we can't even tie him again because he is very strong.
I understand the feeling already... Rottweilers naturally are very strong dogs, their power is in their head and shoulders. They can push down a full grown man when they hop on the person.I also relate to ur situation of not bn able to tie him .I remember something that happened almost two years ago.A vet came to the to inject the dog.Twas jus ma parent's that were available, they could not tie the dog to the chain,He was jus barring his fangs at them. They got scared and called me..(((smiles)I had to leave work n came bek home to tie the dog to a chain.U can understand the nature of the dog. Most times,it's closer n more loyal to someone who gives it more time and who commands it more.it shows disrespect to other members of d family that are not close to it.
It is advised dat if it's ur first time having a dog,den a Rottweiler shouldn't be an option.Secondly,a lady or kid or old persons should not tend to Rottweilers, cos it requires a great measure of strength, commands, time, Toughness to tend to a Rottweiler.Give it more commands at d top of ur voice.discipline him when necessary but not always.Play WT the dog sometimes, spend some time with it.With all these,it will be more inclined to love u more, become more loyal n respect u more.Any further questions, plssss drop...I will be willing to help.

I know this is far too late, but I hope you see it. Discipline is the key word here.

First, place him on a permanent leash for at least a week, maybe 2 weeks.

Get a strong piece of wood, one which you can hold firmly, and about one and half feet long, maybe two feet long. A regular 2by2 wood or 1by 2 would suffice. Keep like 3 of such woods at different locations, for easy access.

I don't know how soft you are emotionally, but you have to try and be "wicked" or ruthless to do the next steps...

1. Starve him for a full day, maybe 2 full days (if you feed him once a day)... Allow him access to water only. Within this periods, scream orders at him- SIT! INSIDE!! OUTSIDE!!! STOP! SHUT UP (especially), GIFT!! ARE YOU MAD?! When you do, and he tries to be stupid, just carry your plank, don't mind that he ended up not being stupid ooo, just for trying to snarl at you, show you his teeth, or bark (at worst), nack am the plank for the joint of his leg, especially the back leg (I will mark the spots you should hit and send to you). Hit him with moderate force. If he doesn't react, hit him again and again, till he reacts angrily... Then you scream another order-STOP!!! Then hit him again... Make the dog see you as a very wicked and dangerous animal... No wahala.

2. Drop his food right in his front, and tell him not to touch it. He goes near it, reach for your cane (plank), he refuses to let go of the food, give am one, on the joint. He will scream, and then you tell him NO!!! DON'T!!! When you see he's looking at the food and looking away, you touch your cane and he backs down, you know you have conquered him, you can then walk away, to allow him to eat.

You can free him from the leash after like 1 or 2 weeks of constant cane (even for no reason, just gi am one). He won't lose the love he has for you, he won't stop playing with you, it won't change his aggressive behavior to strangers; it will only make him re-order who the boss is- and that boss is YOU!!! When ever he's misbehaving, he'll be looking at your face, waiting for an order to STOP! GO INSIDE!! GIFT!!! ARE YOU MAD??!

N.B: I'm a dog trainer (in addition to my main profession that still deals with animals). I've used this method severally and gotten a positive behavior. Sometimes, 3 days is enough, and the dog is back to his best behavior.

Hitting d dog on a joint with mild-moderate force will give a better result, compared to hitting him on the body; and less risky compared to hitting on the head. It's a very painful spot to hit by the way.

I ddnt want to say it buh thanks sum1 knew that particular rott is an alpha, dogs don't jus bite hands that feed dem ..in most cases naa mental issue, health related. Op shuld step up his personality, be assertive, set rules & boundaries, zero fear. when such dog disobeys redraw affection, let him miss you .. every dogs want to roam freely, use cage as punishment. an alpha dog wil not follow an unstable energy.
