We will have to tie him down before spanking him because I wasn't exaggerating when I said we can no longer spank him. When you try to, he turns on you.

Scratch that, I just remembered now that we can't even tie him again. The last time we tried he fought us tooth and nail.

The only thing he fears is broom grin

You can look for a catch pole (Has a noose end) to catch him or use trap nets like we see in movies, while you beat the hell outta him wink grin

But how you go remove am after deed is done o cheesy

Haha grin. The rott dey give you trouble.

One of the major triggers for rotts' aggression is fear. It could also be trying to dominate tho.
Check out this site. It might help.

Yea boerboels were genetically selected not to think of biting owner or family. The boers simply killed a dog that snarled at or bit a family member. I've never owned a rott but the pup I met kept on biting me with those pin teeth and strong body for its size

Rotts are just too stressful. Calm pups are the best for me. Rotts are good for security tho.

Actually rotts are more protective of it's family than a boerboel it all boils down to early training..by nature rotts tend to be very assertive and dominant hence one need to start showing the pup who is in charge at a very stage if not you ll have the same issue OP is having...

I was chanced to partake in the training of a female rott pup a year ago... believe me at just a month+ this pup began challenging every one through growling and unnescessary barking...we didn't back down or play with her rather she was showed that's it's wrong and was put in her place....fast forward to early this year she gave birth tho I wasn't no longer frequent in her every day Life,I was able to walk up to her and help arrange the pups so they ll suckle well...even picked them all to inspect she was just there looking at me no reaction! Why? I had already showed her I am above her in the pack when she was young so now she respects me..

I now own a pup from her litter

I have a one and a half year old Rottweiler named Gift and I don't understand him anymore. We can't chastise him again when he misbehaves because he bares his teeth and growls menacingly at us if we try to spank him for being naughty. He welcomes us when we come home like any loyal, loving pet, but yesterday he shocked me. Usually as we are about to enter the house he playfully holds one foot down so we can't enter, or he jumps on you and hugs you tight so you can't move. When I got back from work yesterday I was exhausted and I didn't have energy for his play so I hugged him briefly but as I entered the house I mistakenly stepped on his right hindpaw.

He howled, left me, and lunged at me, this time to bite me. He actually narrowly missed my arm.

I was mad. I turned and yelled "Gift are you mad?" He bared his fangs and barked at me. Me sef I bared my teeth at him and ordered him to stand down. He growled, me sef I growled back. Do you know this dog kept advancing menacingly at me and barking? I quickly borrowed myself brain and locked the door. Werey dog.

I can't shoo Matilda, my chicken in his presence. He covers her with his body and warns me away. And now, the most perplexing thing is he now marking every where in the compound. My sib came visiting and before he entered the house, he quickly relieved himself outside because he was very pressed. Do you know Gift went to where the dude urinated and peed on top? It has gotten so bad now that Gift entered the house and marked different sections of the corridor and smaller dining area with pee.

Now, I don't know if this is classic Rott behavior or if he is just being indisciplined. I confess we spoilt him a bit because he is such a sweet animal when he is not misbehaving.

How do we discipline a dog that has grown wings? He is well socialised so it's not a case of too much isolation.

Lol @Gift are you mad.. Why them no name am Emeka or Nonso... Why u go anthropomophize common Dog..
The Dog now has 100% undiluted entitlement mentality.
Now its screwing up and you worried.

I hope u get this fixed if not, maybe just put him up for adoption.. cheesy

Smh..Op u must also be a funny Soul.. This your anecdote cracked me up o..

I am having same issue with my Caucasian sherperd. He used to be a gentle lad, but now he plays too much. He has already torn two of my jeans and a polo by playfully dragging it with his teeth.
So to stop the issue from occurring again, i have stopped playing with him, once i give him his food, i japa.

Your dog is claiming alpha because you have failed to show you are the alpha

But it can be corrected

Start by corrective alpha training

Start by treat and food control

Use positive enforcement training for submission only hence forth

Deny him his play time and toys till he lays down in submission

Whenever he bares his teeth don't shout back turn your back to him and turn back keeping eye contact then state him down till he stops

Change all this positions around the house and start domineering stances with him

You need to show you are alpha always

Infact when you serve food stop him from eating while keeping eye contact

Hold your arm.beteeen him and the food till he lays down roll him on his back and rub his belly this is total submission

There is no phase of transiting here, is either the op dominate or He dominate which he is doing , He needs to curb it and start showing he is the boss or else he will have to either sell it or leave with it for the rest of the dog's life, the moment your pet start forming to you and marking even human urine at any slight chance shows the dog is trying to pass a message to them that he is the boss.

with these large and dangerous breeds it is veery important to establish dominance. make sure he sits before you give him food . Also I would tie him and flog very well with a rod for that snarl. Even something like blocking your way pretending to be sleeping he's testing your dominance. Give an small kick to leave your front. It's what you want he must do not what he wants.. you must be the alpha so get to it before it's too late

Also I wouldn't let him into the house. Too much love is not good for a dog. Have heavy rods and woods handy to discipline him if he tries to bite you again. So many stories of loving female owners savaged and sometimes killed by their large breeds.

Na wa with all these "whipping/be the alpha" advice. I doubt the whites train their dogs that way. Shouldn't you rule out rabies. Perhaps it is afflicted with that.

Few years ago, I bought a 'few weeks old' male Rottweiler. Having catered for the dog for about a year and a half, it attacked me while I was tryna discipline it. Fortunately, it was chained...I had to run for my dear life. I later placed a call to the vet doc, who took it away(sold it)..and I lived happily thereafter. The end.
