Hello nairalanders. I would love to share my bitter experience today. It all happened by 5.30pm. I had a chat with a seller on jiji and we agreed on a price. I got to his shop and inspectred and saw all phones were sealed. So a receipt was issued and it was written tested and okay. I paid through transfer and left thanking god i managed to get a brand new phone.

By the time i got back home, I tore the nylon as usual. However i heard a sound . I opened the box and saw the phone had flipped. I took out the screen protector, the phone was on. Inshort the phone was a refurbished phone. I felt sad and scammed. I called the shop and they start telling me sorry, that they did not know its refurbished .but i saw them all sealed in nylon. I later discover that the seal tape was missing. The imei sticker at the back was missing, lo and behold the screen was poorly glued. They promised to replace a brand new one. Now the question is how will i be sure brand new one is brand new one.

Nigerian crooks can get anywhere to get the seal sticker before opening it as brand new. I feel so stupid right now. All this happened at iwo road, inside a nice shop to fool ppl. I feel so ashmed. i paid 135k but got refurbished phone of 70k worth.

If this happened at iwo road?? Buh why didnt u go to Micro station or SLOT?? Those guys at iwo road are something else.. especially dah iwo road shopping complex beside Top success.. if you enter there and go back happy.. Thank your Mama ni o grin

Abeg when next you want to buy a new phone, just go to Slot or 3cHub.

I am very devastated. Its a different thing if i got uk used. However it was sealed as brand new so i wasnt bothered. Not knowing i was scammed. The shop is owned by an igbo man and he claimed he bought it brand new.now im scared that the one they will give me tomorrow will still be refurbished and nicely sealed as brand new. I went to a shop withh my intention to buy a brand new never before used phone and i paid via real transfer .but look at what i was giving. Thats the phone as i got it from the shop before tearing away the nylon

why are you giving them the option of giving you another phone?
just ask for money back

I truly sympathize with you man. However, I must be very frank with you that you may never get a new phone or anything close to it if you continue with this your gentleman's approach.

You were scammed deliberately by that crook,so what makes you think the refurbished phone he sold as new will be replaced with a new one for you ? Omo,jara e ! You said this happened at "Iwo road", is it Iwo road in Ibadan or where ? You need to act very fast man before those crooks turn the table against you. Trust me,this is not a matter for the police o ,urgently approach those NURTW guys at Iwo road motor parks and table your matter before them. Request to see the park manager and discuss your matter him. Trust me,you will get a brand new phone you paid for immediately unless, that Igbo man wants to go back to anambra or wherever he came from empty handed and with some very serious bodily injuries.

Try this and thank me later.

OP when you get home please, please and please gather your parents and beat the living daylight out of them for not teaching you common sense.
Like really bros, it's like you and your family are sharing one brain and it was not your turn to use it that day.
I fail to believe that a grown ass man will wake up and go to market to buy a "brand new phone" without checking right there in the store what you are buying.
Maybe they sold it to you cheap and you thought you were duping them and was in a hurry to leave the place.
You were quick to point out that it's an "Igbo" man that duped you even though it wasn't relevant, would you have preferred it if it was a yoruba, hausa or fulani that duped you. Would it have made the loss more bearable?

There is nothing scam here. They have shop, address, contact number and they never deny the goods. Just go back and get your money. If they want to play smart, get one mopol officer and settle him with 2-5k.

They also have police syndicates. I have been in his shoe at Lagos. Mine was a TV. I have vowed never buy anything second hand or even online. They are at Jumia, Konga ,JiJi etc.

I just hope the OP comes out fine.

Take it back to the shop for return and if they try to play you, look for their association especially chairman, if it is a market place. Complain to them and immediately they will answer you.

OP I want to believe you where not born yesterday. All this you wrote is irrelevant, you bought something from a store that isn't what you expected simply go back and return the item or ask for a refund. Telling us the tribe of the person is also irrelevant and I will tell you why.
I have bought about 5 flagship phones, laptops etc from people I have no clue of where they come from in computer village through jiji and guess what, non of them sold me something bad, I always did my due diligence of taking my time to check the product before leaving.
Now I was not always lucky, so last year I got this your phone Note 8 from a shop in computer village again through jiji and after spending time testing the phone I was satisfied took it home and the very next day the phone screen went dead.
I did not come here to open thread that I was scammed, grin
I went back to the store first thing in the morning, explain to them and they gave me another one.
Simple... No too much grammar
Not everyone is a scammer, many of those people are honest hard working people just trying to make a living.
Stop trying to vivify them for their condition.

Don't even wait long or ask for another phone. Ask them to refund the money immediately through transfer. Pursue the case ASAP. Arrest someone if you have to.

Don't wait for any replacement. Get your money back immediately. Go back ask them to give you your money before leaving the phone. Don't leave the phone or receipt with them until you get it. Involve the CID
