Hi guys, I am still curious about what Christ told the young rich man about selling all he has and giving to the poor in Matthew 19:16-30, Mark 10:17-31, and Luke 18:18-30?

I brought this up because some Churches always bring these bible passages up, while others say Christ is not poor so Christians are not supposed to be poor.

Yes he must if he just doesn't want to be saved to enter into the kingdom of God in heaven, but also that which is on Earth.

It doesn't necessarily mean a rich man literally forsaking all his riches, but to forsake it mentally.

To illustrate, Abraham didn't need to literally sacrifice Isaac to God, but he would have done it had God not stopped him to show that he'd already sacrificed him mentally, so doing it literally would just be a mere formality. Hence God rewarded him for obeying His voice despite the fact that he didn't literally sacrifice his son as God had instructed him to do.

That mentality is all God requires from anyone who wants to enter into His kingdom on Earth, and i wouldn't be surprised if Jesus had stopped the rich young man from doing it literally as God did in the instance of Abraham, if he had also shown that mentality of the kingdom of God.

This is the mentality all of His apostles had, so for anyone to truly become one, he must have that.

Jesus said, it's almost impossible for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God on Earth because they hardly have that mentality which it requires.

God bless.

This is very wrong from you. What that scripture is saying is the will of God for a Christian. You give or sow all you have to God whether you possess very much or very little. There is no middle ground or anything like a mental giving Here but actual giving up of your property. That is the work of GRACE in a Christians life.God’s GRACE will first of all make you very poor before it will now lift you to realms you could never have attained even with your former riches. You can see GRACE at work in the early church by them selling Their possessions(lands and houses inclusive) they had and laying it at the Apostles feet to be shared to everyone who had need(Acts 2:45 and 4:32-37).That is why 2 cor 8:9 says”For you know the grace of our lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might be rich”.So also you who has riches will become poor for others to be rich if you are a man under the GRACE of Jesus Christ. It is the law of Grace and the law has not changed.thanks

The answer is, Christ Should Be Your First Love and Your All Always, Nothing Else.

He is a Jealous and He does not want to share you with anyone or thing like husbands do not share their wives.

There Must be Nothing Else!

That was the same ground God Found Adam guilty, for Adam Chose to Please his wife rather than God!

Same as Solomon, Same as Moses to the people (speak to the Rock event), Samson, etc.

As you can see from these cases it is Very Grievous to love anyone or thing greater than God.

Which is why it is the First Commandment "Thou Shalt Love the Lord thy God, with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength (With Everything)

You are addressing a one who is a kingdom of God.One who has knowledge and experience of that scripture and not at sense or intellectual level like you. nope that wasn't the reason. I thought for one with such a high understanding as yourself you would have seen that one post was sent before the other and had little connection.

Admit what?

You couldn't even comprehend my speech which showed how one could be said to be proud in the sight of men yet humble in the sight of God, how could you now comprehend the deep things of the Spirit?

Men like you highly esteemed the Pharisees yet they were an abomination in God's sight.

Men like you saw Jesus as proud when He said things like "before Abraham, I Am", "I and the Father are One" that they wanted to stone Him to death, but there has not been a more humble Man in God's sight.

It's all about what God thinks about someone, not man, for man is lost himself, so how can one who knows the Truth take the opinion of man seriously?

The high level I claim has nothing to do with pride but the plain truth, but it appears a claim of pride to you because of your ignorance of that truth just it was to those that wanted to stone Jesus in that instance for saying the Truth.

I see how many here lack the required level to put the devil in his place and it bleeds my heart, because It's my earnest desire that many to come to that level because it would be to God's glory, hence my sharing these rare revelations of the Spirit. But look at what you're ignorantly making of it?

Maybe this is the reason Jesus said we shouldn't display our treasures before those who are ignorant of its value.

You can continue deceiving yourselves to know the Truth, but the Truth knows those that are truly His own, and in time they'd be distinguished from those who are not.

I brought this up because some Churches always bring these bible passages up, while others say Christ is not poor so Christians are not supposed to be poor.

Lalasticlala
Bible 101, is that you surprisingly as soon as you become a believer, means you've signed up for willing to go anywhere, do anything and give up everything in order to achieve the goal of the Gospel and will of God, by any means lawfully necessary.

Matthew 19:16-30, Mark 10:17-31 and Luke 18:18-30 was not a teaching for the body of Christ per se, but it was for a self-satisfied, smug and self-congratulatory, puffed-up, self-approving, pleased with himself, I am-all-right-Jack rich young man and ruler because Yahshua Ha Mashiach, aka Jesus Christ, had a good insight, x-ray and clinical understanding of the deepest working of the rich young man and ruler's heart. He knew the rich young man and ruler, would willing give everything up except for his riches, wealth and worldly possessions, so after the rich young man and ruler was done with his elaborate posturing and grandstanding, Yahshua Ha Mashiach, aka Jesus Christ, put it to him, that he needs to give up his doted riches, wealth and worldly possessions in order to have treasure in heaven and then step forward, to follow Him.

The real lesson in that narrative isn't really about "riches, wealth and worldly possessions", but it is about self-righteousness and hypocrisy. In the rich young man and ruler's eyes, thinks he is perfect, thinks he ticks all boxes correctly, thinks he is complete, thinks he is in the same league of the best thing since sliced bread et cetera, but penetratingly far-seeing zoomed down and zeroed in to the very thing that has a vice grip hold on the rich young man and ruler. His riches, wealth and worldly possessions, he can never let go for anyone, not even for a kingdom's sake. He is impressed by his money, riches, worldly possession and his social status as a ruler, but not impressed by how the poor can be taken care of. The rich young man and ruler, passed every thing except having a duty to promote the welfare of the poor.

onenaija001:

Lalasticlala
"Judas did not say this because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief.
As keeper of the money bag, he used to take from what was put into it.
"
- John 12:6

"Since Judas was their treasurer,
some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay for the food
or to give some money to the poor"
- John 13:29

Churches who always bring these bible passages up are biblically undereducated and are suffering from chronic truth decay, from not regularly brushing with the Bible

If Yahshua Ha Mashiach, aka Jesus Christ, really was poor, do you think, while dying of the cross of Calvary, why would the Roman guards be throwing dice to see who will win collecting and having Yahshua Ha Mashiach, aka Jesus Christ' clothes.

If Yahshua Ha Mashiach, aka Jesus Christ, was poor, how come Him and the disciples, had a money bag that Judas, as treasurer, was in charge?

Jesus often read people's hearts, so it's obvious that the young ruler strongly believe in his material possessions, that's why Jesus asked him to sacrifice this for the love of God.
Otherwise if Satan should demand for all those things, the man will easily give out. The same thing happened when a tax collector named Zacchaeus approached Jesus and promised to give half of his wealth away and also to pay back four fold whoever he might have defrauded in the past. Luke 19:5-10

So it's the heart that really matters not the material possessions per say, Job lost everything yet he remained steadfast! smiley
