Some of us try to stay as private as possible. I think "how did you get my number" is more appropriate, that's if after the necessary introduction, you still don't have an idea who the person is.

A guy who doesn't ask how a female stranger got his contact to initiate some convo, in this 21st century....WILL PROBABLY DIE LIKE A FOWL. The person on the other end may not be the beautiful girl you see on the profile picture. It could be a "village people", fraudster or even assassin trying to monitor you through your SM accounts.
