People should be careful with information posted here, there are nairalanders paid to promote specific ponzi schemes.They will falsely claim the scheme is certified by SEC, EFCC and even CBN. Zezit: If the deposits are insured with NDIC, depositors with 500k and below will get all their money. Depositors with above 500k ought to be financially literate and sophisticated by monitoring the financial reports of their banks and do the needful whenever they observe red flags. A bank can't become distressed over night, Oceanic, Intercontinental, Skye and others showed the red flags for more than 9 months. Informed depositors closed their accounts, informed investors also sold their shares in the bank. Some people who also understand the product life cycles of Ponzi schemes cashed out before they are distressed or crashed. All Ponzi scheme are expected to crash but not all banks will become distressed. The oldest bank in Nigeria is over 100 years old, most of the banks are about 30 years old, I doubt if any Ponzi scheme can be in business for 10 years before it crashes 3 Likes |

People comparing banks to a clear ponzi scheme shows that academic literacy may not equate financial literacy. Let me broach on a few points: 1. Granted, all investments involve a level of risk, but there is a clear difference between a risky investment and a ponzi. A risky investment though not designed to fail but may fail because of the risk it faces. On the contrary, a ponzi is designed to fail because no wealth is created within the system (it only a matter of when and with which victims money) 2. Banks consistently provide proof through release of financials, press release and even real investments about the nature of their activity and the source of their revenue. which of the ponzi systems have shown even a simple fund analysis showing, where they invested and the returns made? Zezit: Lets see a 1998 fiscal crisis that effected the world and that is not a PONZI.. Banks are put under a microscope, have to follow regulations. Would you prefer to eat a restaurant under a health code or give everyone the freed to cook without health codes. -You put money in a Bank. -Bank loans money to investors. -Investors create businesses, products, and services. These Provide JOBS. This cycle is for the betterment of Nigeria. The problem really are dirty politicians. Banks are a foundation for a country to flourish. Dont throw around the word PONZI if you have no clue what a ponzi is. Banks create profits - Ponzi is just shifting money from person to person with an illusion of profits This is why deposits are late, people dont not get returns of the investment when they cancel and now 99% of the company has been sold to another country. Remember the deposit were late because of power issues... that was a total lie to cover up the banks clamping down on MBA because the exchange rates are black market exchange rates. |
