Our environments say a lot about our level of development. I think that its high time Nigerian governments at different levels should start making conscious efforts towards development our states infrastructure as well as its aesthetics.

Enugu is one state that has sustained their efforts in this regard. We also want the residents, landlords and tenants to go a step further in making our cities in every state to be beautiful. We love beauty.

Truth is that the current governor is not doing much in terms of pro-active planning for the future.
I was recently in Enugu.

I expected better planning and green areas for future developments, what you have shown are legacies of old Anambra state, all centering around Okpara Square. If you look at the areal plan, you will see that all the free flow of traffic and beautiful access we enjoy stem from the location of Okpara square and its ring road. A town planning master piece.

That's history though. The new estates around Ugwuaji Emene, Amechi etc, are not properly planned. They will be an eyesore in future. The current approach will also diminish the rate of housing and quality of life. These areas are cut-off from the infrastructure in Enugu by the Enugu -PH Express way.

As such, they should have a green park, equivalent to Okpara square (Maybe Enugu Central Park), future space for mall, a business district ( single Avenue is good enough). Golf course in Centennial City is not a public open infrastructure, so not good enough.

Also street Roads in these areas are now made less that the 12m standard set in the whole of independence Layout. I was at the so called independence Layout phase 2, and saw these pathetic development.

My point is that there are plans for individual closed communities (Centennial city, Heliu, etc), but no integrated plan for the whole area. They are just modelling the half hazard absurdities being done in the lower part of Lekki. That's nothing good to copy, the outcome is already chaos in Lekki.


Secondly @ ckenneths.
I have interest in investing in land in Enugu, with the exception of Nike due to no planning. Behind Ugwaji is really good, but I hear your current Governor precipitated a communal land dispute in a bid to grab a huge plot given to him in the area. The Centennial City, is fantastic, but again your Governor has scattered things around there with his so called revocation of C of O. Very absurd for an ongoing development for whatever reason. It is a debranding of Enugu.
So my question is, where else in Enugu is it safe to go for land that will still appreciate in value, apart from Nike?

Stop spewing nonsense, Onitsha has large amount of trees and greenery, it all depends on the location. What the op posted is just 2% of Enugu, while the rest of 88% is like the Agadez you described.

If I post only this areas of Onitsha, won't you say that every state should take a leaf from Onitsha

We have to give A LOT of kudos to Gov. Sullivan Chime for his aggressive effort to plant flowers and trees around Enugu. Why did this OP avoided the Road from New market to Abakpa Junction(more than 10km) If not for d fact he’s a paid zone B.
This present Government in Enugu inherited a masterpiece of a State from their predecessor Sullivan Chime. Gburugburus only task was just to maintain these roads already built by Sullivan Chime.

He failed miserably at it.
The Link Roads within The Cities That made Enugu what it is Today are all washed up and gone.
Roads in Enugu Today like
Roads in d streets of Abakpa,
Streets of Achara Layout,
Streets of Agbani Road,
Streets of New Haven,
Amechi Flyover bypass,
Ugwuaji Flyover bypass,
From Camp to Garriki is a Death Trap and have so deteriorated.
Mind you, these roads were constructed by Sullivan Chime and all Gburugburu needed was just to maintain it. He Still Failed at it. He’ll Rather pay folks like this OP to select/snap 1% of d Roads in Enugu metropolis That is still as it was when Sullivan handed it over to him.

I think the OP is just focused on the capital city parts of Enugu, we all know that all states have slumps,

U hv made ur point a long while ago and we hv noted that down. Dropping comments continuously to derail the OP isnt working. I love how matured he is.

At a point u even started posting pictures from Port Harcourt to drive home your point. U are not the only one from Enugu in this forum. Atimes u act matured and move on so you wouldnt be noticed.

I must really commend the OP, i am from enugu, and I really enjoyed the views, you really tried its not easy to drive round and take pictures.

One thing I would really give a thumbs up to the Enugu state government is the work of Enugu State waste management authority.
It has never been better like wat we have now, even during Sullivan's tenure.
Development is a process, I pray the next government focuses on the roads inside the other parts of Enugu that are not within the capital. With time, we will get there.

Again, i don't measure d*cks with touts. Onitsha has its advantages, however, lack of city planning and a culture of tree planting especially in the high-density areas makes its beauty very difficult to see. Same with Aba. But Aba is doubly inflicted with lack of proper waste management too.

Bottom line, jealousy is a disease. What i love most is that none of you can change anything by denying the fact about what Enugu has managed to become despite the oppression it faced in Nigeria. It would be a better use of your time if you imbibe the best practices here to implore your governor to develop your state, than always a culture of jealousy and pull him down syndrome of Nigerians.

No my brother, Onitsha has good city planning. Don't judge onitsha from what you see in upper Iweka which is even a boundary between three communities Infact or Ochanja, bida road and main market (all those places are part of an "open" market which we all know the risks it carry) and all these few spots I mentioned are not even up to 1 percent of the city, just bus stops.
If you want to judge onitsha, start from Venn road south and see the beauty of the city.

As for planning Onitsha is by far better planned than Enugu, that's a fact. Google earth is there to cure your ignorance. Oh you knew this thread was about Enugu, why then did you bring Onitsha into?

PORT HARCOURT is larger, more developed, more advanced, more industrialised, more commercialised than Enugu. After Lagos and Abuja, the next place is PORT HARCOURT. Enugu is far behind in that consideration, maybe 10th on the list. Mind you Enugu has been a provincial centre but all that didn't make the place to develop beyond being a mere town with just poor civil servants

Oga Ken, town/urban development should be anchored around a strict master plan. Has Enugu got one?
Town development isn’t just about allocating, surveying and building houses. It’s also about drainage/central sewage system, efficient water supply system and also electricity and fibre optics system systematically and strategically laid underground and then most importantly a central Metro/Underground rail network.

Enugu still has those ugly Nepa poles messing up the environment, ugly mesh of cables are still a big eye sore.
Is there Metro rail system on the board. Is there any provision for this? Imagine metro/underground rail system running underground connecting Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium through O’Connor street to Okpara sq and linking up Agbani road and various other links connecting Emene, Abakpa, Garikki.

What about recreation? Nice to see some sculptures but the state government need to do more. Ngwo Park, needs some tlc. Achara layout need a park, New Haven as well. I had to fight some church people attempting to build erect some ugly building at Nnaji Park behind New Haven primary school years ago....As at the time I left the city, Sullivan sold our Polo Park to South Africans to build Shop rite. I still feel like burning that shop down. Couldn’t they have sited the shop somewhere else on a virgin land to boost development?

Enugu is a nice city. I’ll forever be a proud Nwafo 042 but I think the city is over rated.
