My Dad's Treatment Of My Mum Made Me A Feminist by SouthNigerian: 11:05am On Mar 08, 2021 |
Happy International Women's Day to the females out there. When growing up as a child, my Mom faced a lot of discriminations in the hands of my Dad and his family. She faced constant assaults physically, emotionally and spiritually. My Dad never wanted my Mom to fulfill her potentials because he felt his authority in the house would be challenged if my Mom become financially independent. My Dad's anti-progressive attitudes towards my Mom drained all her aspirations to become great in life. She abandoned her lofty ambitions because she's a wife. She left the things that would have made her fulfilled because she's had to save her marriage. My parents lack of cooperation affected my upbringing and education(thanks to exposure and good friends). I could have been making South Nigeria proud if I had good education but hey, here we are ![]() I discovered my Mom wasn't the only person in the league of subjugation by men. It came to my knowledge that women are slaved beings in that thing called Marriage. I discovered most men are envious of their women who seek to be free and great in life. All of my childhood experiences and societal ideologies made me arrive at the conclusion that marriage is nothing but a trap for women. Crazy enough, women are the ones who seek marriage the most. I have decided never to get married because I believe in great potentials that women harbor. I strongly believe in the strength of women. I believe in women's capabilities. Many of you guys would say Nigerian Women are useless. How many of you guys would husband a woman who aspire to be as great as Okonjo Iweala, Folorunsho Alakija? How many of you doesn't mind having a wife who is richer and influential than you are? Well, me don't mind seeing my woman greater than I am. Her breakthroughs would only multiply my desire to be greater. As for me, I have decided to shun marriage. Even if I have to get married in the future, she must be a woman capable of challenging me. What I mean by challenge here isn't the woman who quarrel me, I mean the woman who have a lot to bring on the table. A woman I can gain from intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and of course physically. She must be a woman ready to speak up for other women. FEMINISM DOESN'T BRING AN END TO THE THOUSAND YEARS REIGN OF MEN IN THE SOCIETY. FEMINISM IS CREATING A FUTURE OF FREEDOM FOR BOTH GENDERS TO GO AHEAD AND FULFILL THEIR GREATEST POTENTIALS. My Advice to Our Ladies Out There: Seek to be independent in all ramifications. Financial, emotional, spiritual, physical independence etc. Choose to be the best you can be with track records, don't choose to be a hoe. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. 73 Likes 12 Shares |

So many modern women have nothing interesting to say. All they want to do is to exploit their sexuality for material or societal gain. They do not create anything of objective value. This is the sad thing about women's rights. You cannot out of kindness, fairness and modern thinking grant them a few liberties, preserve society and be done with it. Oh no. Once the foot's in the door, it never ends. They will push for more until the universe itself explodes. It starts with "we want freely available access to birth control and the right to work, and choose who we marry" And it ends with frivolous divorce, broken homes, widespread misandry, feminine sons, masculine daughters and the complete demonisation of any & all things masculine. What gain have Feminism brought so far even to the women it claims to help? Patriarchy nurtures women, emancipation harms them. No protection. No provision. Stressful careers and decision making. No guidance. Insecurity. Mental damage from promiscuity. A string of regrets. Women are family creatures. Hyper individualistic autonomy is damaging for them. Patriarchy is nurturing and protective. The backbone of civilization. No advanced society can survive without it. Furthermore, paternalism is God's love in man. You have daddy issues when you didn't receive enough paternal love. It's that simple. Independence isn't the answer to that, no matter how much you brand it as freedom or liberty and turn to degeneracy to cope. None of that will save you. Happy International Women's Day. 62 Likes 3 Shares |

Looking with extrospection, this guy is not far from the truth. I see men around who are plain irresponsible; I mean men who would go play draft instead of going to work, men who take to alcohol and over indulgence in sex with multiple partners while their children are being sent away from school. Some are outrightly lazy and comfortable that, in fact, many women have taken the place of husband in financial runnings of the house. I'm just glad for the type I fell off. But many women too have about the same degree of shortcomings; victims game, childishness, irresponsibility, hypergamy, turning a man against friends and family for her favours only, oversensitive, dissatisfaction and greediness are some of their common banes. This concept of marriage ehn... If you're fine with your singleness, perhaps you should just stick to it. If your heart, yearn for a partner, find one that closely meets your specs - avoid being blinded by physical traits. And if marriage doesn't work, perhaps it's best you desert it and move towards the peace you used to give yourself - after all, everything that marriage gives can be gotten out of it. 17 Likes 1 Share |

Amazing write up. I don't think getting married to someone should actually make you want to end your dreams. I've had experiences too but,I feel theres more to what each and everyone of us have to offer. 4 Likes |

It'd be a very hard time collating the number of ladies who fall in that category. In fact, you as a lady, do you safely fall in that category? 5 Likes 1 Share |

Summary please! Although, some men are stupid and violent in their handling of opposite sex, Nigieria's version of feminism is rubbish. Let me reply with just the heading. If you like be a feminist, it doesn't stop you from seeing "Periods", getting pregnant, it doesn't change your gender. Lastly, it can't make you the husband. My advice, go with whoever you're compatible with. Mind you, there are men that wants to buy a particular ride(benz, lexus, Ferrari, Aston martin, Lambo, bugga..., etc.), go on a foreign trip, vacation, go clubbing, carry babes, etc but because they want to assure their family of good life, they denied themselves of those pleasure by investing the money in businesses, investments etc. 10 Likes 1 Share |

unfortunately true Most African men are too mentally weak to handle a successful woman, their inferiority complex will always come to bear too many African woman-resources all going to waste also, some women want more power, money, and control but without a proportional increase in responsibility that's why stories of women refusing to take responsibilities as we read on the front page last week of a guy who earns exactly the same as his girlfriend from the same company but the so call feminist girl is outrightly unwilling to even share a quarter of the responsibility at home claiming her father takes all responsibility in her own house this behaviour makes some people believe probably women don't really need more control, money, freedom etc they clamour etc, afterall because they tend to do nothing with those stuff 6 Likes |

Don't blame men for your mum's poor life decisions, she chose her partner! In the same period while your mum was being abused other women built conglomerates with their partners. There's no male patriarchy, 10 percentile r oppressing everyone both male and female. 33 Likes 3 Shares |

If the way you expressed urself was the way ur mother behaved in her marriage, I wouldnt blame your dad for treating ur mum the way he did. In as much that I biliv wife shouldn't be treated like servant or slave, women should have the mindset that they are not head of the family, allow ur husband to control the ship ,you will enjoy the marriage in doing so. Also, issue of red flags in courtships, how many of you ladies ready to let go of a man when you clearly see red flags when dating? Cute! Tall! Rich! Family pressure would completely blindfolded your reasonings of judgments. When marriage goes south, you will be screaming on top of ur voices that men are bad, marriage is a bondage. Husband & wife should endeavor to know their boundaries in marriages. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

SouthNigerian: copy & paste epistle. My question to feminist is that are you challenging God for creating you women ?. For its a fact only women can carry pregnancy not men. Its a fact that women have been poisoning their husbands since time immemorial, should that make men not to marry ?. On judgment day you will account for your gender blurring, trying to make men to women & women to men. 3 Likes
