True. I've read a lot about that. Olukumi means "my friend/confidant" in Yoruba language. They are known as "Lucumi" in South American slave history so they've come a long way. A version of history says that the Yorubas that left Ife to move eastward, during the wars, are the Olukumis in Delta today.
There are Yoruboid communities in Delta State, not only the Itshekiris.
We have been long neglected by Yoruba nation which is why our Anioma neighbors are trying so hard to change our identity. They call us Odiani as part of their political plan to make us have a sense of belonging among them.
But we the Olukumi are Yoruboid by blood and all our communities of Olukumi, including Ugbodu community and others must be recognized by Ooni as he does the itshekiri.

Aworis are Yoruba. They are descendants of Olofin Ogunfunminire, one of the sons of Oduduwa who came from Ile Ife to Lagos.
How can you be explaining history to someone that doesn’t have an history?

If you think Itsekiri will be part of your Niger Delta Republic, you are a fvcking joker
The man from Edo and Delta (Former Bendel State, Former Midwestern Region) has NOTHING IN COMMON with a man across the River Niger from, say, Bayelsa, Cross River, Abia or Rivers states; not language similarities, culture or history.

Edo and Delta will never be part of a Niger Delta Republic... or whatever nonsense people without a sense of history or culture try to concoct up.

If you are ashamed of your father's family, we are not. We are not Odiani, our neighbors call us Odiani to include us as part of their Anioma clan. We are Olukumi and everyone knows that we are Yoruboid.

We We We We We and people will think the character talking from his hut in osogbo knows what he is saying.

Yes. we have shared ancestry with the larger Yoruba nation. The Igala, as I learnt, sojourned from the West towards the Benue valley, thereby losing the common bond with their Yoruba cousin.

Yoruba man stop using the word We in your dreams. Your father's house is in osogbo not anywhere near this axis.

I am not new to your style of deceit...Not only larger but ewedu and Amala.

Good to know. But your leaders need to speak out first before the Ooni can speak in that regard to avoid unnecessary rancour and allegation of land grabbing. We know our brothers are there but we are not sure if you had cut a new identity or still with us.

Some ungrateful people whose ancestors invaded Lagos in search of food to eat are just in agony because God Almighty in his infinite Wisdom had already given the same Lagos that gave them Succour in their greatest hour of need to the Yoruba

That is the reason for their bellyache

Kiti gbe O ! My Awori Yoruba People

Nobody can take our God given Patrimony from us

Awori Yoruba have always worked and Prayed for the Peace , Progress and Prosperity of others

God Almighty who never sleeps rewarded them by making their Land the most Commercially Vibrant in Black Africa

Gen Abacha tried to relegate Lagos but instead it Prospered and grew more and more !

Maternally.

(1) The kings of Lagos (from Eletu Kekere upwards) are patrilineally descended from Ashipa.

Ashipa is not a Bini man as claimed by Chief Egharevba’s redaction of the 1950s.

Ashipa is an Awori prince (of Ife royal descent) from Isheri-Olofin.

This is according to the earliest accounts of Lagos history per the British records of 1878, 1914, 1929, etc.

However, Ashipa’s son (whose name is Ado) was birthed to him from a Bini woman descended from a Benin Oba.

(2) The kings of Lagos (from Ologun Kutere downwards to Akiolu) are patrilineally descended from Alaagba.

Alaagba is not a Bini (no one ever claimed he was though), he is an Ijesha.
