The Nigeria Labour Congress has lamented the impact of inflation on the N30, 000 national minimum wage.

NLC President, Aliyu Wabba, noted that the wage, passed into law in 2019 by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had been reduced to nothing by inflation.

Wabba spoke during the 2021 Decent Work Round-Table discussion, to mark 2021 World Day for Decent Work with the theme: ‘The Effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Health, Employment, Income and Gender Equality.’

He urged the Federal Government to adopt a National Employment Plan that will engender decent work in the country.

The NLC President said, “Today we know that the 30,000 minimum wage has been reduced to virtually nothing due to external effects of inflation in our system.”

Wabba said that the national employment plan was imperative in addressing the issue of peace and stability in the country.

Why we signed minimum wage agreement with Kwara – NLC
He said governments at all levels should take serious action and put in place mechanisms that will engender decent work in Nigeria
.

We also need jobs respect fundamental labour status, we need jobs that are sustainable. We need jobs that respect maximum working hours and jobs that can provide a decent minimum wage,” he submitted, adding that 70 per cent of Nigerians had their livelihood in the informal sector.

The NLC President also said casualisation of labour was a challenge and that seeking for employment has become perverse.

Wabba said, “I must use this opportunity to call on our government at all levels to adopt a national employment plan and I think decent employment which is a recipe to addressing the issue of peace and stability. Because youths can certainly be a tool to the hands of the people who are manipulative and this can be very dangerous to the society.

“As a country, unemployment must come to the centre stage in our recovery for COVID-plan.”

Our LC after playing politics with out efforts and support, now, they are shading crocodile tears to gain more package from our looted funds.

Waiting to see the ignoramuses flood this thread to blame the inflation on Buhari, while ignoring the fact that the world is heading into recession.

This is only the beginning. The next 6 months will be tough for global economy.

Nigerians who will be less affected are those who seeked habor in the USD way before now. Folks that invested in bitcoin, gold, and silver will be safe.

A bag of Brown Beans is now 100k embarassed . Bread will soon get to 1k. Everything has nearly doubled or tripled in price, Businesses are closing down and yet we the Nigeria citizens are not yet ready to tell these politicians that we have reached our limit, that enough is enough. One time, Ghanaians United to protest against the rising cost of living and the soaring cost of food stuffs, same with Burkina Faso and the rest. BBN Naija has ended, Gulder ultimate search will soon start, very soon Twitter ban will be lifted, all this to keep the rebellious youths Busy. I won't be surprised if lai Mohammad proposes that BBN should be done two times in a year.

And yet some state has refused to pay the minimum wage that has already been reduced to completely nothing and some are owing workers salaries for months , Nigerian politicians are evil

30,000 divide by 570( dollar rate ) will only give about 52 dollars and a family is expecting to survive with that

Which way nigeria

Minimum wage that has not even been implemented is now worth nothing.

You hand over government to selfish, dumb, naive, tribal and corrupt people, you destroy the whole country. People that think that building an economy is by sharing money and cornering resources to their tribal affiliates.

When Buhari, his cabal and the forty thieves are done with the country, it will take about 20 years to have a semblance of recovery. Then other African countries will have overtaken us as giants of Africa. And then will we be subjected to ridicule. Hopefully we are ready to go back into the books, track down these thieves and their generation into the future and seize all their assets and wealth even if they have been passed down to kin and are in foreign lands.

Even in the face of all these, there is no will power to fight corruption. Watch as the reps and politicians will increase their already bloated salaries soon due to inflation while the common man goes hungry. Watch as more loans will be taken and they become more expensive due to weak currency, stagnant GDP and all. And Watch as the same Nigerians will queue up to vote for the same people putting them in hardship and sabotaging their future.
