Thanks for this. Pls do you have any idea the cost of prosthetic leg fitting here in Nigeria?
It depends on the sort of Prosthesis. If the socket is just made of polypropylene or resin, then it might cost you from 200-350k. If you want a Myoelectric prosthesis where she can have more control of her body and can even move her fingers then the budget is from 2.5-6 Million.

Have you try doctor Jesus that leaves in heven, don't allowed them to cut your mom leg, find moster seed, count it to be seven, give your mom to chew it and swallow it, count another 7 seed, miss it with angel Michael oil and rub it in her leg, be praying for her as your massaging her leg, take her to another doctor that knows about the treatment, she will be healed, that seed will heal her spritually, Do it and thank me later.

Right now she needs at least zero carbs. because carbs turn to sugar

Nothing that has carbs (No bread, yam, eba or garri)

Fish, eggs , vegetable etc peppersoup as food

See can eat beans

Then fruits like water melon ,

Also she will need to be taking diabetes drug that will form insulin

But she has to stop taking in carbs which the body converts to sugar

No cocacola or sprite or any other soft drink

To save her live you have to take drastic measures

Take her to another doctor for blood test too

That is why we have been speaking out about our dietary regime in this country which is basically pro diabetes.

Practically every staple is carbohydrate and due to knowledge deficit and lack of investment in broader staples, healthier options are generally more expensive.

Beans is more expensive than maize, andneven rice which is not indigenous to Nigeria is cheaper than soya. Fruits, nuts and other legumes are almost out of reach as staples.

Then there is the cultural aspect. Most folks donot know any form of protein consumption outside the more dangerous, high cholesterol ones and when combined with a passion for their puddings (swallow) and high calorific soups it leads to a lifetime of health damage that is exceptionally hard to reverse as age takes its toll.

We need to take these things seriously since we cannot seem to be able to organise a viable healthcare system at any level.

Not life bro, it's Nigeria. You will marvel at what kills people in this part of the world. There are some countries these kind of thing is an easy go. You can still find some in this country, but they charge in dollars.

In as much your mother leg do have not injuring in that leg, she only needs massage therapy. It looks as she suffered minor or partial stroke on that leg. With proper therapy she will be fine. A cold leg or hand is the characteristic of stroke. Since she has sugar related issue it is not advisable to amputate her leg because it will never heal. I will advice you to seek expert advice preferably oversea doctors. That how they killed my father with needless amputation.
... So you are asking him to delay like you did for yours. I don't know why Nigerians are like this. The hospital is the last resort for them after needless ghost chasing. That's how someone told me of herb that extract fluid from gangrenous body part. Granted, the fluid may escape but that does not stop the necrosis and infection going on. You end up killing your loved one and blame the doctors after turning up late. If they refuse you care after assessing the Situation you will run to social media to say doctor refused to treat your loved one. Let's do the right thing at the right time and we'll be good.

Hello NL...

Please share your recommendations. I need my mum now more than before in my life. We are confused on whether to allow them to go on with the amputation or seek other alternatives.

Thank you very much.

Pls note that as at now, her sugar level, creatinine and other things are normal.

Hey there, I don't know if you'll see this and even if you do, I don't know if you'll be interested.

We can pray for her at no cost. You can drop your phone number in privately and we'll call you to pray with her.

God bless you

Hello NL.
I'm going to keep this brief.

It started three weeks ago. my mum, who was walking normal with no problem suddenly could not walk. Her left leg began paining her severely that day. My mum was all in tears... She was rushed to the hospital where it was discovered that her sugar level was on the high side. The hospital gave drugs which stabilised it, at that point my mum was very weak, couldn't eat, each time she eat she throws up and also had some pain in the leg still. After a week in the hospital, we were then referred to a teaching hospital after a test showed that creatinine in her kidney was high.

The teaching hospital tried their best and I can say my mum is now okay. Except for the left leg. She can't still walk on it, the leg feels cold to touch with a little discolouration above the foot.

Doppler test showed that blood isn't really flowing through the leg. And they said they will need to amputate the leg to prevent the infection from growing to the other parts of the body.

Please I want to know if you know anyone who had similar condition and amputation was recommended but was later healed without need for amputation.

Please share your recommendations. I need my mum now more than before in my life. We are confused on whether to allow them to go on with the amputation or seek other alternatives.

I empathize with you sir. It's quite a difficult choice for your family to make. But whatever you and your family do, know that time is your greatest enemy right now. The processes going on right now in that limb is no respecter of persons. The specialist have recommended, it's now up to you to save your mother's life. People will come with variety of alternative remedies but truth is they can't treat what they don't know. Relying on chance for life situation is bad.

Sorry bro. Firstly, I will advise that you do not allow the amputation to happen. Yes! I lost my own mum in July this year as a result. Secondly, your mum is diabetic. What she is suffering from is called ‘gangrene’ in medical terms. It has no known cure. The only way for her might actually be amputation but first, let her sugar level stabilize. And if she’s over 50 years, bro, take heart! This is because if that amputation is carried out, it will increase the level of infection which will eventually result in the entire body being infected. This is called Sepsis. If this happens, death is just 3 days away!
So bro, it is a pity this has gotten to gangrene and her sugar level is not stable. Forget about artificial legs, if she’s above 50 and her sugar level is unstable, doing amputation will kill her faster. Better take her home and be managing the situation rather than spending more money on a fruitless mission. Sorry to tell you this truth.

Gangrene can only be cured within 3-6 days of appearance with serious antibiotics otherwise, amputation is supposed to be carried out immediately. Anything outside this is a total waste of time.

Op try applying fresh Garlic in copious amounts to the leg.
Let her take high strength garlic supplement like kwai over the next few days

Otherwise amputate immediately.

Nigeria should be a country where fruit is available in abundace but the production level of farming is still below par.

I agree everything is carbs carbs carbs, Rice , Eba etc

But u will not beleive the damage that this carbs cause if it turns to uncontrolled diabetes. It usually leads to kidney failure. So u wonder why so main people die of kidney failure.

The best rice is eat is unpolished rice like Ofada but Nigerians would rather spend millions to eat polished rice which is worse for health than unpolished rice.

The scientific reason is than unpolished rice is high in fiber content and the body can easily flush it out as waste while polished rice has a higher glycemic index, which means its carbs convert more quickly into blood sugar than unpolished rice.

So cos you had someone with stroke having cold limbs you think all cold limbs equals stroke. SMH.. You'll get someone killed of you continue this thing you're doing. FYI stroke is a disease of the brain. What you see happening with the limbs is just collateral damage. It's not managed same way as a diabetic foot. You can't treat what you don't know.

Let me also use this opportunity to advise everyone here.
If you are over 40 years, stop drinking beer and heavy alcohol.
Stop eating everything you see, stop eating heavily.
Eat more of fruits than carbohydrates.
Forget soft drinks, juice and the likes. They are not healthy at all.
Form the habit of drinking ginger and garlic tea morning and night.
Do not drink all those sliming tea or so called herbal tea. They actually attack your kidneys.
Eat natural nuts a lot such as groundnuts and cashew
Eat less of bread and tea
Eat chicken
Reduce intake of red meat
Forget all those baked food such as meat pie, doughnuts, etc
It is easy to eat foods and drink the best of wines and beer but when the sickness comes, even the best hospitals may not have answers.

Differentiate:

Like I said in my comment my mum's elder sis suffered same fate , at a time it was reddish ,smelling and have this dark spot all over .
She was taken to the hospital and they said they'll amputate her. That her husband should come and sign.
We were many at the hospital that day and so someone came up with an idea to take her and go the ibile way.
Although they later go the traditional way. After sometime I saw her walking again gradually and I was surprised . was like see the leg they wanna cut in hospital ..!!!!

It could not be the same case as the Op's mum's, perhaps an infection that's not gangrene. If the wound has gotten gangrenous, delay is extremely dangerous

If the leg is cold with a little discoloration, that means alot buddy.. Last option might still be amputation which I don't is bad in saving your mums life. I'll rush to that option, rather than complicating the issues of affecting our parts. "A Bird in the Hand is Worth Two in the Bush"
