Gani Fawehinmi and Tai Solarin had 3rd Class in their First Degree and they excelled than many First Class Professors, but to put on public domain your Uncle,s personal information is a reflection of your rotten self. Be courteous!

NewDelhi:

That's why I laugh when some people shout Nigerians make it everywhere. They've never met those Indians, pakis and Chinese. Those guys are all over the globe making it big and making impacts. .

Yes because of their background and govts in their various Countries even gave enabling power- through 'Fund Me Projects' etc.
Nigerians, are trying but the Central Govt with it's monopolistic Power will not allowed Nigerians to Excell here!
- Most governors are just idle,no idea of how to get their State to the next level to that extent, they hardly provide Employment to their Youths because it is not the Federal alone that should do that, even the Local Govt hardly exist in all these then it goes down the ladder- unemployment, jobless youth everywhere with frustration.Imagine the Palliatives that never get to ordinary Nigerians!
So what are you talking about, the same Palliatives that Canadians got $2500 at home, twice, yet Nigerians have been made only to hope!
-What Industrialization/ Research do you want to carry out in Nigeria when Minister of that department has nothing to tell us!
- So many things/ challenges that Nigerians could not have imagined are bedeviling this Country-insecurity,insulgency, Kidnappings, criminality, etc.
However,It is a Big lie to tell yourself that Certificate is worthless' even in US,you can't get a good job except you go to the best of Schools around!
Did you ever asked yourself why should the Zucherberg of Facebook and the Billgates of this World still ended up in University, despite their abundance Wealth?
Our environment is stiffening and wicked, with terrible rulers, yet you can still make it in Nigeria!

You missed the point again

You are daft! Not because you are actually but your Nigerian environment made it so.

The above was not intended or directed to you, but only summarises what the OP was convening.

I couldn't have demeaned you in such manner without even knowing you.

Let me explain :

you are daft --- to obtain a 3rd class degree from the university of Nigeria

Not because you are actually but your Nigerian environment made it so ---- meaning the 3rd class guy made giant strides in his career the moment he left his Nigerian environment.

You get the point now ??

Well the fact that the guy madea third class does not mean he was unintelligent

People learn differently. As one of my lecturers once said, just because it took you one hour to learn what takes another guy five hours to learn doesn't mean you are better. You just learn differently.

But most schools worldwide are set up in a way that favours the one hour learner. Hopefully things will change as technology improves

Franklyfrank300:
Nigerian system of education will drain you to get the certificate but there will no equating job or financial freedom.

With certificate in Nigeria you'll need a strong hand to pass you through Jobs.

For me it's simple, Nigerians tend to perform better outside because the academic system of Nigeria is to frustrate not make.. we are being taught how to read and pass not to know.

Only additional skills to our certificate can make us stand out in this country. Everyday things gets worst.

No one cares whether you've first class or not you'll still pay to get job. Imagine paying a million and half to get a job that won't make you the same amount in a year. That's why we have more frustrated graduates which is not supposed to be..

My advice to any undergraduate or graduate is to learn a digital skill and become a freelancer at least you'll get paid by foreigners who understands the importance of time.

There are different digital skills out there.

Email marketing
Facebook ad
Instagram ad
YouTube marketing
Graphics design
Affiliate marketing
Amazon Kindle publishing

And lots of them..

Just focus on one and master it .. the fight no own should be again underpayment and unemployment..

I can help you get access to the course if you so wish.. get connected on WhatsApp for it.

PS: I will only help you get hands on the course then you do whatever you wish with it..

Good day sir, pls I am interested in those courses

In Nigeria it is about the certificate but overseas it is about what you can offer

Continue deceiving yourself until you get there, even if you have the best to offer, they will still pay the person with both certificate and "something to offer" more than you and they will pick them first.

MISSCONGENIALITY:
I always say that even all those who dropped out cos they felt they were wasting their time going to school, if they go outside, school go hungry them and they will pass more citizens of those countries. The crowd alone in one tiny lecture hall with no fans or windows is enough to.make students fail. Then the sick lecturers and moving from one office to another to do what could be done from the comfort of your room, the hostel condition, the long queues to collect or drop one thing other, and so many other man made factors that affects performance. Even 80% of those who come out with good grades have to buy them. So at times those who came out with very low grade are more confident and perform better outside Nigeria school or in the streets.

this fine smallie get better brain o!! shocked cool grin

I doubt the youth working at his factory are uneducated. They probably have some form of certification which enables them to work there.

Plus management, research, even floor supervision requires at the very least a diploma. Car manufacturing is a specialist profession. I suspect most people working there are educated at least at SSCE level...to understand instructions centered around car manufacturing. or have something called 'guild qualifications'(those with SSCE may have a credit in automechanics...which is offered as an SSCE subject in some schools).

And as the company grows, he would need more and more educated people working there

Plus, I don;t regard an uneducated man paying educated people a salary as an anomaly. innoson may be uneducated, but he is not unintelligent.Uneducated people can create jobs just as well as the educated. Being uneducated does not mean unintelligent or uncreative.
I honestly was thinking you would go hard on the guy .. I’m surprised not to find any insult in your reply. If I were the one, I would make sure the guy collect before I give him proper respond, grin

I’m a very hot tempered person except I’m in a good mood.

Anyway I’ve learnt something from you . God bless you .

How did you know that a Third Class Honours is below average? Average is measured from reference values using his class size for instance. Do you know how many they were in class way back 1990s. It is possible that he could be in top 5% of his class. A certain year in UNN, the best student from statistics department made a 2:2. Those following him were in the fringes of low 2:2 and third class. Using the word “average” is very sensitive and reflects the true mean of a sample selected from a population.

NoApology:
So one of my uncles that is based overseas is billed to come home this Xmas, as such a lot of cleaning and fumigation has been going on in his house in readiness for his come back.

I went this morning to supervise the work going on there. I went inside of the stores by the car house and saw this old metal cabinet and I decided to check what's inside. Lo and behold, I found in the midst of old paper files and debris my uncle's Nigerian certificates! Omo!

Rats has eaten some portions of the certificates. I scanned through and discovered that he was,by his Nigerian qualifications, below average. This is the same man that is an internationally sort after lawyer both in the country and overseas where he resides.

This got me wondering with so many questions on my mind:
1. Are certificates really overrated?

2. Does it really come a time in our lives (apart from death) when our certificates becomes irrelevant?

3. Is it not obsolete to measure ones intelligence based on exam performances? ( My uncle would have been jobless or better still a charge and bail lawyer at best going by his academic performance)

4. And why do Nigerians perform better in almost everything when the leave this country? Are we too stringent or is a reflection of our flawed system?

There’s are obviously more opportunities available in a developed country than in an underdeveloped country especially if U are still struggling.

Certificates value is a factor of what u want to become and where u want to practice it.

I don't know about others, but I'll cherish and guard my certificates will all I have. Certificates are not and will never be useless. It may not have paved way for a davido, messi or other successful people, but there are still a lot of people who succeeded because of their academic qualifications. Let's be guided. Them no dash you, rather you earned it.

He has been one time commissioner in Rivers state andd now three times member of HOR.

Certificates are not over rated in my opinion
It's only a means to an end
Certification has aided many to migrate from their country (especially Express entry people
Every big organisation hires those with good certifications as well

So while its true that certifications are not the holy grail, it will be fool hardy and self delusion to think that certificates in themselves are useless

Having one is better than not having one anytime anyday
Though nigeria matter don tire everybody

truth.
Hashabiah:
You have to understand that Nigeria is a country that frustrates the dreams and aspirations of an individual, but once he is able to travel out , he flourishes. Secondly, education in Nigeria is often mistaken for intelligence, but this is not so when you go outside . Over there , what you study doesn't count , rather , it is internalization that matters .

What can you OFFER, not the "what CERTIFICATE do you have" is more important? Sure the certificate is good. What's more important is competency and adaptability, outside the country.

Certificates should be backed up by competency and adaptability, it's better not to put all your eggs into one basket.

My dear, the beautiful thing about going abroad to study at any age is that the whites believe that life can begin for anyone at any age of their lives. The opportunities are limitless, just have a good resume, work experience (teaching, work in the factory etc), voluntary work.

You funny too much. You probably saw his primary and secondary school results and certificates. How in the world do you expect one to remain the same forever. Later in life, a below average high school student may find a course or subject he or she has passion for and then turn around to be a brilliant undergraduate student.
