OK, I'm trying to comprehend this, if they could access a passworded phone, why not a passworded Sim?
all they did was remove the sim from the phone and insert into another phone. Had it been the sim had pin, they wouldn't have been able to access the sim.

The best thing as security measure right now is turn off ussd mobile banking. But banks won't tell you because the are making money from it. Do this and know peace.

Oga, so when your phone is lost or stolen, you don't know that the first thing to do is restrict access to your account and block your SIM?

This is why I never do online banking of any sort in this country. Nigerians always find ways to bastardize services. See what online shopping has become for a good example.

Good evening all I’m gonna make this very brief plz I need help

Someone stole my phone this morning and within 3hrs i opened my bank app only to realize they’ve taken over 180k from my account with the bank description of “intrabank charges”

I called UBA immediately and still went to their branch they got my account frozen with the account where the money was transferred to because it’s also a UBA account

I’ve written the letter they asked me to write and they said they’ll get back to me within 5 working days

Now since there’s a valid recipient account where the money was transferred to is there no way I can catch the culprit with help of the police? My iPhone 11promax of barely 6months gone with money

I had to call MTN too to block my SIM

Please is it possible to get the person tracked and arrested

Modes please move to front page Lemme know my next action thanks

NB: both my account and fraudsters account where he sent the money to has been frozen by UBA because we use same bank
oga, is your iPhone Promax not under lock? How did the thief gain access easily in that short time? Abi na person wey know your password steal the phone?

Requiring my transaction password? Did you not read the part I told you they could reset my transaction pin via sms according to what the banker told me
Bro be calming down, even to reset your password requires inputting your password or pin. But whatever is worth, your money was withdrawn. Qed

baba calm down....there is no way USSD would tell you to reset ur password without demanding for old password. if you can't give then your old password then you have no choice than to visit the bank or call them via their phone line which will prompt some security questions.......
There is something you aren't telling us here....if thou you deal with online transaction then that's different but for someone to steal ur phone nd make transfer from it, then the person must be someone who knows you so much nd have ur password with him....might be ur GF, sis, bro or friends who you loose guarded with.

They would still need access to your phone to use USSD, and even USSD transactions require passwords.
Don't mind that bros. He thinks he's taking to kids. Except the thing happened another way but this his way is lies.

Bro sorry about what happened once the person enter the bank to complain the person will be apprehended cos PND is on acct already and reason will be stated but at the same time if the acct holder knows about the deal he won't come to the bank atall cos he might know they have reported the acct.

Thank God say no be only you get bank account o. I too had done a reset once on my ussd transaction pin... It required my DOB. Or they got that from your phone too? Find sleep sleep and pray it never actually happens to you.
That people believe that rubbish, made up story is baffling.
If it's that easy for people to have their monies stolen by merely losing their phones, then at least a quarter of account holders would have had their accounts emptied.

Use a SIM card lock next time. It is an added layer of security for your phone.

Even when someone steals your phone and tries to be smart by putting the SIM in another phone, he/she will still need to type in a password before the SIM becomes operational.

If you type in the wrong password on three occasions, the SIM is automatically blocked.

With this layer of protection, you protected from someone stealing your SIM and changing your password.

This is the comment I have been looking for
Times I ave always told my friends always have 2 account.
One for spending and the other for savings.
Your savings account should never have an ATM or be ussd active.
That's the little way u can be safe
Have been doing this. I have more than 10atms, shishi no dey all of them. Na transfer and withdraw i dey do everytime. All my boys, even some trusted street dude knows my atm card pin grin
I use ussd though, incase bank app misbehave.

Never activate an ATM card or activate USSD for the Bank Account where you have huge funds

What happened to ops can happen to anyone, that is why you should only have the money you can loose in the bank account associated with your ATM and USSD

I’m telling you, I have an account with one Nigerian bank where I save money, I only go there if it’s an emergency, today I went to wire transfer to my other account, the woman was advising me to get a mobile app and a token so I will be doing the transfer myself whenever I needed to, I told her pls do not worry about me, just do what I asked pls.
I no fit shout

Ah.

Sorry to say bro but I think you were careless.

You know why?

Okay I’ll tell you why.

1) You have an iphone and you did not put a passcode or facelock or both. There is no way in this lifetime that your iphone, with all these set up, will get hacked or opened by anyone.

2) You did not set a pincode on your sim card. Even if you had secured your phone, putting your sim card in another phone would have rendered it useless.

3) What sort of tech department does UBA have that someone, a random person can just open their bank app and transfer money?

Did you not set a password or face id for accessing the app? After that did you not set a transaction pin for completing transactions?

Even if they managed to get your iphone without security locks and decide to reset your password and pins, did you not set security questions? I think Kuda even has a separate transaction pin for resetting all these deets.

Even resetting your USSD pin these days require you to answer security questions.

Lastly, your iphone got stolen and you did not quickly access Find My Iphone from the nearest computer to render the phone useless?

Nawa o op.
I have the feeling that the culprit might be someone Op knows very well, moreover,if the culprit were to transfer through ussd, the bank ought to request for transfer pin..... Its an insider job....

All ur account are linked to ur phone number, even if u do not activate ussd, their can still gain access to ur money only my using the SIM card to purchase airtime on ur line, the best solution is to put you sim on pin code’
