Well, it is a fact - anthropologically proven that the Edo and Yoruba are separate groups who had interactions. The original settlers of Edo never came from Ife, but rather a prince from Ife settled in igodomigodo, the original name of the place.

As you have mentioned, the name of Benin (not Edo) was given by the same yoruba prince, who left the place in frustration, naming it ile ibinu, meaning house of anger.

So, no the edoid peoples are not a yoruba sub-group. Please don't repeat that outside.

But yes, the Edo did colonise Lagos, and it may interest you to know that the name Eko is derived from a bini word that means village.
