I have a relative who faced the same issue... Early this year he decided that he was going to pay bride price for his girlfriend... He and his uncles traveled all the way from Limpopo to Kwa-Zulu Natal province.

He was planning to pay R32k as a bride price, but the woman's uncles turned it down and said it was way too small considering that he had already damaged their daughter by having a child with her out of wedlock and never did bothered paying for damages.

They demanded that he pays R50k... 10k is for damaging their daughter and 8k is for disrespecting the woman's family... grin grin grin

At that time, the guy's family was busy throwing a party, waiting to hear the good news.. grin grin grin.. his family back at home tried getting hold of him all day because they were excited to hear the good news, but he wasn't picking up, he only called them back in the evening to inform them that things didn't go as planned... His family threw a party for nothing.

He had to go back home, save some money and go back to pay for those damages... grin grin grin

Does he get back any of his money? What about the 1m + he spent so far? It sounds like the elders won because they took his money and kept their girl…?

This is what happen when you try to marry from a family with little or no financial capabilities. Marriage would then be made a means financially liberation. Pathetic

wirinet:
Drama as bridegroom walks out of engagement ceremony in Isiala Ngwa due to extortion.

He paid N1,500,000 to cater for food, tents, chairs and a public address system.

He was also made to set aside N100,000 as the bride price that the two families had agreed on.

Okwudili was asked to add N50,000 to the bride price because he had already impregnated the girl.

He was slapped with a N10,000 fine for making a detour to the wrong path and ending up in a different homestead instead of the girl's.

He was also asked to pay N15,000 to appease the elders who had become tired of waiting for his arrival.

Drama however ensued when twelve girls covered in loose robes from head to toe were paraded before Okwudili and he was asked to guess who his fiancée was.

He pointed at the wrong woman and that lead to yet another fine of N15,000 thrice

The decisive moment specifically was when the elders demanded for a refund of the total sum of N850,000 that had been paid as the girl's school fees and upkeep since she started primary school!

Fuming with anger which he tried his best to hide, Okwudili excused himself to visit a nearby latrine and disappeared!

He switched off his phone and was last seen in a bus heading to Lagos from Owerri.

He should ask for a refund of all the money he has paid so far, since they did not give him the product of the transaction and should take them to court if they delay or refuse.
