He might even ask himself what he saw in her(the mistress) in the first place, now that he led his wife to her death.
I think most men cheat for the thrill of it, and for the fact that someone (the wife) is getting affected by it.

In some situation (like cheating), I always say the best decision would be to become indifferent, especially if the cheating spouse refuse to change.
It might be difficult at first ( to emotionally detach) but it's not impossible.
For your own peace of mind.
