Nigerian human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu has said that happiness of a married couple matters more than longevity of a marriage, IGBERETV reports.

She said this while reacting to reports that actors Patrick and Iretiola Doyle's marriage is over.

She wrote on her Twitter handle;

"We should learn to be comfortable with divorce. The longevity of a marriage should not be the prize. The prize should be happiness, fulfillment and mental well being of the couple involved. Where it is no longer optimal, people can decide to go their separate ways and be happy."

That's what some people call "Wokeness".

Divorce is like a common "taboo" in many parts of Nigeria, especially the predominantly muslim north, and the city centers of the south especially the south west. It's also fast rising in the old eastern region.

PS: for those quoting me out of context, please understand the use of common “taboo” here, something that is common but not discussed publicly

Is that the reason why your principal Obi is jumping from one party to the other?
Even divorcing his 2019 hubby Atiku in 2022 without prior notice. Not fair ma'am.

Divorce is a new trend in our society
Divorce is here to stay
The more people realize that religion is a scam, the more they get divorced and live a happier life like our ancestors

This hypocrite should stop wearing a hijab to deceive people that she is religious. Her views are sick for a muslim woman. Supporting homosexuality, now divorce.

Aisha...youve lost values, thats if you ever had. Couples are now less tolerant all in the name of being woke and feminism especially.

Marriages were never as bad as we now have them

Imagine her saying the longevity of a marriage isn’t the prize and yet she is still with her husband. If people go ahead with this mentality, then they will
Opt out anytime there is a small difficulty which could have been settled amicably. Where did she put the marriage vows? For better for worse? Till death do is part. That’s what makes marriage different from other institutions. It’s a partnership till you are old and if you are able to last that much with your partner then you have won the prize of marriage.

When you're tired for reasonable reasons, it's better to call it a quit than living in bondage that may end up in a metal health State or outright death. You must not endure to death. God may charge you for murder of yourself

USA and UK are suffering from this "norm" that woman is talking about. As black people, we know our own way of taking up trends is so different. We do too much. As if paternity fraud is not enough cancer in our cells, they want to add divorce to it. Our system cannot cater for the resonance effect of divorce and broken homes. Who will wife after one or after two as a bachelor? The effect will resonate on the society for so long in a very bad way. This will be at the detriment of women and children. Which means we are going to use our hands to create new generation of unhappy children and lonely women. If you have that mindset even before marriage, I will advise such a woman to get used to buying dogs, because they might die alone. sad Woke generation nonsense in the part of the World will just further plunge the society into depression and further misery. In this part of the world; no child support system, no split in half after divorce, and no special treatment from the government after divorce. All you will get is to die alone unhappy. I'm not saying people should die in marriage. But marriage is not about your feelings (or mood swings nonsense), it is about being an adult and putting in efforts to fix situations that can be fixed. I foresee community of deadbeat parents and baby mamas.

Longevity indeed means absolutely nothing if happiness is missing from the lives of the individuals in the marriage. undecided

The high rate of divorce in this generation is not an ailment. Rather, it is a symptom of an ailment; toxic generation.

Why is it getting increasingly difficult for people of this generation to live in peace with another person for the rest of their lives?

Yet, it's this same generation that wants to change the country. Generation that can't adjust for one person!

As far back as the 80s, divorce rates in some parts of the north were reportedly as high as 50%, all this while those in the south practiced spousal abandonment, cleaning mouth afterwards like say nothing divorce is unheard of in their zone-- the hypocrites. undecided
