Because the government simply abandoned them and the roads leading to their place. Irrespective of the situation, this is not worthy to be called an ambulance

If it was purchased to transport medical items to remote hospitals/public health centers, then we know the govt is trying to save money or at least, doesn't want to use vehicles, which will be more expensive to purchase and maintain. But that said, I see AMBULANCE written on the keke. So I doubt this is for moving medical supplies around. It's for moving people.

As you said, "No sane govt would want to squeeze a human being inside that thing". Is any government in Nigeria sane? No.

On sane or not sane, I think there is limit to ridiculousness of people at the helms of affairs. At least they would not stoop this low to use that for conveyance of unwell people around.

Anyway, maybe for basic utility. Cost of maintenance. The ability to transverse bad roads, tight corners, low running cost.
Afterall, it is just to stabilize patients and move them to rural clinics.

Do not be naive. Hilux vehicles can not be appropriate for those places. One hilux can buy about 10 of those yet the hilux will be more difficult to maintain. For some far flung interior villages I have visited, this will work better. They barely have footpaths and it is by hand the villagers clear it wide enough for them to even trek to pass.
Many of you live on social media and are ignorant. A village with two to five of this can get help faster than one with just one hilux

Its your likes that keeps making the politicians think they are doing too much when they ain’t doing sh*t….
A state government budgeting money to buy tricycles to use as ambulance and you are making excuses for this nonsense probably because of party affiliations….

Just been negative as usual... This is being used in villages... With poor road network.. Fuel scarcity and low level mechanics... Do you expect them to bring in advance ambulance that guzzle fuel and needs specialist to fix when it breaks down due to poor terrain? The real question should be how much was budgeted for it? It definitely suit the purpose.
