Health 5k? Data 7k and monthly feeding 63k is not possible if you reside in Lagos.

On health, the cost of avoiding malaria in a month is over 10k, mosquitoes repellent and raids. If you mistakenly allow mosquitoes bite you, hospital charges minimum of 25k to treat malaria. If you want to rugged it, you will run malaria n typhoid test 2,500.. if God want help you, you will treat only malaria with 3k to 4k. If typhoid is inclusive, you will spend 10k or more. Your 5k budget is not feasible.

7k data for 30days? Data is expensive in Nigeria now, before if I sub 2k on my fone, it will last for a month, now the 2k is just a week or 5days. If you work from home, you must budget 20k minimum for data on your modem. I budget 30k for data and airtime monthly.

62k for food? Okay, no wife no kids, you good to go.

How people are surviving now is by God's grace. I no longer budget for the month, we spend as the spirit leads in other to avoid high BP ..lol

I will advise you to revisit your outing budgets.

But do not remove giving.

Giving on its own is a principle of life. You want to learn from people who are doing well; they are people who give to others.

Just as a principle of life is sowing and reaping, giving is also part of that principle.

Don't shortchange yourself by removing the giving aspect in other to reduce your budget.

A word is enough for the wise.

ur rent and car fuelling is the hole in ur pocket. with a 400k salary u shouldnt stay in an apartment more than 800k yearly. if that ur car doesnt add to ur income sell am buy a 50litre engine car and see how ur expense will drop drastically.

I love your breakdown . It shows some of you are listening to what people have been encouraging you to do .

Some eyebrow raising issues though.
1. It appears you are living beyond your means .
You are supposed to plan around your budget so for starters your living quarters is too expensive. Your lifestyle is too expensive. You can save when you are in the plus not negative .
A 100,000 a month on a 400,000 month salary.
Your vehicle should be for weekends only and not on daily use so carpool with someone.

Now what would solve the issue without cut backs is if you were living with someone so that you can share the bills 50/50 or 60:40

My 2 cents

Focus on your family.
Any human being in your house or your siblings don't need to ask you about smth before you give; investigate on what they lack.

Stop hanging out after work if it isn't work related stuff that will grant you funds.

Avoid lousy friends, cause you smhw spend your earnings because of hailing & you want to feel bossy around them.

Check on any living soul in your house, if their clothes or stuffs are worn out; be a noticing & caring father/brother/Uncle.

DIVIDE your earnings by 3; one portion for Rental bills. 2nd portion for your family. 3rd for your savings/other related vital bills like T.fair, car servicing.

A man getting paid like you shouldn't have less than 600k in his Bank.

Take this serious cause I do have somebody who spends like you, but later change when he started noticing the above statements

Wait after 10k/month for electricity supply, you still have to spend 50k/month ontop fuel for generator? Is the power supply that bad over there? If your office is in your house then where and where are you going that you have to spend a whole 180k for car fuel? And those repair/maintenance and clothing fee you allocated is not necessary.
Just busy spending people's monthly salary on this your budget.

OP is spending way too much on fuel

As intelligent as people that have been commenting on this so far, I am surprised nobody has asked the nigger how he is making up the shorfall.

Is he getting subsidy from somewhere to augment?

To believe this trash hook, line and sinker is unbelievable on Nairaland.

Most unfortunately, nobody has been kind enough to stress the need for savings for a rainy day for the imaginary N400K EARNER.

N400K no do you for naija? Dey play.

Lose that job for six months and you will survive on N50k when bodi pepper you.

Pls as a single guy

Everything else is okay

Your rent should be max 1 and half to 2months of your 1 year salary

I earn very very very far below your monthly salary but Alhamdulillah you'll think I earn millions in a month.

Sometimes, life doesn't depend on the gigantic figure you earn in a month if you don't apply sense someone earning 45k will be far better than someone earning 450k.

I've seen people with low income yet they're landlord.

There are lot of liabilities on the items listed by the OP

Identify those liabilities cut them off and move one

You just have to be deliberate about saving. Look at it this way. You are single and work from home sometimes, then a mini flat should be enough for you.
You can't be spending so much on fuel for generator and car at same time. Its either you work from home most of the time that's why you need fuel hereby spending lesser for car or vice versa.
As for feeding its just too much, if you can spend 4500 monthly on subscription to watch TV,then you can create time to cook some basic meals for yourself. There are many places you can get food at a cheaper rate. With 30k ,you can get some tubers of yams, plantain, soup ingredients and more that could last you for two months get someone to cook stew and soup for you, refrigerate it while you boil rice or make EBA for yourself. At least you should know how to boil yam.
The data and airtime can be cut to half that amount. If it's not necessary, don't call.
Cut down on your outings.
Once in a while, when you're home, starch and iron your clothes yourself. You just have to be intentional about cutting down some things. Best of luck.

Lol, I don't know what outing, sit out and restaurant is still doing on your list. You're not ready yet.

Clothing and foot wear shouldn't be a monthly expense for now, why not quarterly instead?

Repairs and maintenance of what? Your car or household items?

Your feeding cost alone is making me raise my eyebrows, do you eat out?

Lol did u just say outing and sit out is not important. The only moment a man gets to put aside the rat race and enjoy himself. U think men came to this world to pay bills work and die. Men in the house, as u work take out time to enjoy yourself, you have gifted people money that is way more than the token to enjoy yourself.
The budget for clothing is small so I won't complain if he buys them monthly.
He should reduce the rent. If you have a problem with this then I will doubt if u r an adult.

Data buy in bulk for N5k and switch to GoTV. I don't even gave cable in the US only internet ...so ask yourself how often you watch DSTV.

I can cut your bills into half....reach out to me. Instead of eating out...you can get someone to cook and deliver and put in the freezer for you...you have tons of options here buddy ... and have a plan or something you are saving for or towards. A man without a plan is like a man traveling without destination...you will run out of fuel and money and still will be lost. You have a small window...once you fail now to do the needful...spirit of wealth will depart and you are in for a rude awakening.

If you can't manage wealth, you are destined to lose it. Check all the religious writings Most people will know that are broke including some parents at some point had money...they wasted it all.

Kindly look into an inverter. That should save money on fuel for generator.

Its not even the best of apartments, its just a regular place in Ajah axis... i still have to wake up 5am to run out...

N1.3m and you still leave your house 5am? Why not find N500k apartment in Obanikoro or Ogudu and leave your house at 6.30am for work? What makes your situation different from those living in Ikorodu who leave their house at 5am?

Most people in Lagos earn between 80-150k.
200-300k is lucky. Anything above 300k God has really blessed you!

You need to give yourself brain reset. Because even if you earn 800k today, it won't be enough cos you would be paying 3m for rent.

for now...
for fuel
Alternative 1. use commercial vehicle on weekdays and use your car only on weekend to important and urgent place...
Alternative 2. use your commercialize your car when you're going to work and carry only those who are going to your work destination to get additional income...make sure you save the money don't spend.

Rent.
how many bedrooms are you staying if it's more than one sublet the other one(s)

Generation.
can you get solar/inventer

DSTV
how many times do you wash DSTV in a week? or you're wasting 4k/12+48k in a year....end it you don't need it

Clothing, footwear etc - N10,000/mth ....do you need this? i buy cloths once in 2 or 3 year and i still have some new shirts I bought 2 years ago...that 120k savings a year

others is not important or necessary...30k a month? that too much

If i am in your shoe...these are the critical areas i will look into while developing my self and business to earn and save and invest more.

In as much as people will say you spend too much, we should not forget you have your own standards which is ok. You are not expected to live like a youth corper or office secretary. You are a big boy.
The only this I will advice is you cut your rent and also your car maintenance(if car is problematic then get anoda one). get a mini flat. You can comfortably save around 60k to 70k monthly.
Secondly put more effort on your side hustle.
Increase your earnings.

Kindly redo that budget.

1.3m for a 2bedroom apartment on a salary of 400k per month is on the high side. You need to work on your rent. Get an agent on the mainland. I'm sure he'll you'll get decent 2bedroom flats (or one bedroom flat) which would definitely be way cheaper than your current place.

From your post, you work from home. So why would you need to use the car for 5-6 days. If you're using a 4 cylinder engine and you fill your tank, it should last you for up to 2 weeks (or more) provided you're not a Waka Waka person.

If you work from home, I'll suggest you get a laptop with very strong battery, that way you can still remain online for hours after power outage. Also, get a rechargeable standing fan. The one I bought lasts up to 7hours when fully charged. This would help you at night so you can preserve your fuel and won't have to put on the gen if the weather gets hot. That way your gen would only be put on when you want to work and have low battery. With the new fuel price, one has to adjust in order to survive.

If you like cooking, I'll advise you to stock your kitchen with provisions. Yam, rice, beans, noodles, beverages...etc. The cost of procuring these stuffs would be high no doubt, but for the next few months, you won't have to buy anything. Meaning you'll have lots of money to save.

Close eye and get a washing machine. So that this 4k per month can be channeled to something else.

Gift to people kwa, for this renewed shege era. Biko strike that away from your budget.

You put auto maintenance at 30k, health 5k and hygiene 10k. Which other repairs and maintenance is this one again?

After budgeting 62k for feeding for the month, which one is outings and sit outs again?

How can your budget be more than your income? 🙄

You'll have to cut your coat according to the cloth. You can skip breakfast, eat a light lunch and have swallow for dinner. Everything shouldn't be more than 1k. Meaning you'll be saving 1k. That's something if you ask me.

Unless your car is Nigerian used, running these checks and changes every month isn't necessary and a complete waste of money. I changed my break pad September last year and this is May, I'm still using it. Same with shock, Tyre...etc. As long as you bought a decent car, it won't be swallowing up your money every now and then.

If you're using your gen for 2hours or less per day, 20 liters should last you more than a month. Most especially if you're in an area where power supply is decent.

It's simple, wear clothes you can afford, eat foods you can afford, date people within your range, don't go broke and in debt trying to impress anyone...Live within your means.

You are a mean person. You made sense until you said he should strike out the gifts he gives to people that he is obviously better than. Living without a little charity to the needy is a worthless life. A meager 10k that he probably shares to more than two needy persons is what you want him to remove? You need to change from being too self-centered. Day breaks people on different sides of the bed. Be warned! sad
