there is also imported fuel.

If they ban importation of fuel, then that's when you should be worried about dangote.
Don’t mind those oblivious things, they are still allowed to import fuel, & they are shouting monopoly?

Naive Zombies, they want to be import subsidized fuel, but still still expect local refineries to compete?

Senseless Goats 🐐.

Peter Obi never mentioned N100. I did
Peter Obi proposed that before fuel subsidy is removed
1. There has to be wide and extensive consultation with organised labour
2. That he will grant licences to those who are are ready to set up modular refineries including those that are currently refining illegally.

These two points would have helped calm nerves and ensure that the organised labour has an input in the new reality.

Tinubu did none of those. He just went on air to say SUBSIDY GONE, without consulting with the organised labour, nor ensuring there is an alternative affordable source of petrol. This is the height of incompetence

You're right that he should have done extensive consultation.

But, I will never agree to giving licences to those doing illegal refineries.

Some of you screaming "subsidy is gone" don't know the level of Wickedness that is coming through it. It used to be oil marketer running the show but dangote and his cronies are about to take over. In both we are loosing. There's nothing transparent about this refinery and it will not favor Nigerians. Just like cement, we might end up paying more for fuel than the entire europe

Those doing illegal refining are usually locals from oil producing communities, who have been virtually shut out of the highly lucrative sectors of a resource that is underneath their feet.

Peter Obi is indirectly talking about empowering people in oil producing communities. They are not just good for being security men for oil concerns that have been granted to Fulani businessmen.

So Peter Obi is well in order.

The two points Obi mentioned are very legit

So Dangote should shut his own plant because no body risked their investment in such a sector..

You don't reason well .

The only reason why no company ever invested in a refinery in Nigeria is because 9f subsidies.. Dangote took that risk.

Most modular refineries are built to process crude to diesel and other products that are not subsidized..

This is their overall objective

The 1% Nigerians versus the 99% Nigerians

Poor Nigerians cannot build or own a house anymore

As it stands now, poor Nigerians may not be able to own & drive vehicles anymore. Unfortunately, they might not be able to afford public transport.
But this is the #Change that was promised in 2015

Peter Obi additionally proposed granting licences to modular refineries. That would have been a game changer as
1. They will be operating in naira
2. The fact that there will be a number of them will automatically guarantee competition with the resultant low price of fuel, perhaps even around the N100 per litre level or less

Ok

No matter the "mess" our refineries were
at, at least they were all working, albeit in
a reduced capacity and meeting part of
our needs and creating employment up till
around 2016.

They were not meeting our needs at all, and even the part of our needs was very small...by 2010 we were importing over 80% of our petrol needs...and that's an underestimate.

You sell petrol at a low price, refineries operate badly as a result.

Refineries have to operate at a profit, or you earn far more than enough to pay for them to operate well. Both things Nigeria was not doing.

Why did they now become comatose
under Buhari as Minister for Petroleum
and also president❓Instead of concentrating
in fixing our refineries, Buhari and
Kyari were giving free money to Dangote
through the back door to complete his
refinery

What free money?

First the funding for Dangote refinery came in the form of loans. Even the CBN governor that gave him money...it was in the form of a loan in naira....that was supposed to be paid back...and the same CBN governor has confirmed that the loan is being paid back.

No free money. Our government is useless, but not that useless..

Again, the refineries were severely depreciating before Buhari came along. The thing Buhari could have done was deregulate in 2015...and by now we would have had working refineries. Instead he kept the subsidy, and the damage continued.

The thing is, operate at a loss, losses result.

Everything about the Petroleum industry
is controlled by Northerners, same as
anything that involves the wealth and security
Nigeria. They are all in Northern Muslim
hands.

That hasn't stopped Southerners from getting involved in the petroleum industry...from extraction to sale of oil.

And a lot of Southerners too have licensees to build refineries. That they have not built them is because of subsidy. Subsidy would make them operate at a loss. Even then some have built some refineries.

Ports Authority, one northerner gets
removed by corruption and is replaced
by another Northerner.

Irrelevant to the discussion.

Any sector that Dangote takes over, be
sure that price of his product will become
unaffordable to the common man.
Dangote entered cement and cement
went from 1k to 5k. He entered fertilizer
and it went from 6k to 30k per bag.
He is now in Petroleum and litre I'd now
from 190 to 600. If he enter garri, all of
us go run to Ghana or Cameroon.😕😕😕
[/quote]

And the same Dangote operates in an environment where he is competing on a global scale. That means paying workers good enough salaries so that they do not japa, paying heavy taxes at federal and state level, and paying for power...because, as you know, electricity is not stable enough.

Plus a sign of a good economy is not everything is cheap. Things cost money.

If you must remove subsidy(revenue expenditure) to increase salary(revenue expenditure), then why remove subsidy?

Savings on subsidy must be spent on infrastructure and an efficient mass transit system.(Capital expenditure)

Salary increase without corresponding increase in productivity, is very senseless!!

What about workers not employed by government, what happened to them? The high prices on goods and services is becoming unbearable. The price should be reversed immediately and plans put on ground to cushion the effects of the removal.

Like cement where the motherfucker was dashed a monopoly, yet it was not enough for him. Despite the enormous support from FG & a large market, he couldn't even make the top 10 richest man, now he was PMS monopoly. We must stop the same thing happening on refined products. After Buhari & Emiefele emptied our Foreign reserve for this man, this drug mule want to dash him free monopoly over Petroleum refining.

Those region that likes suffer suffer can continue with subsidy removal, while the progressive and more accountable regions can have their subsidy or palliatives to cushion its effects! SE, SS, NC has choose.

As a trained Chemist, who later ventured into global business, i know it doesn't take much to fractionally separate the components of crude oil. All that is needed is temperature regulation, collection points & optional, a catalyst, when refining at modular or small scale levels. That is why what appears to be difficult to engineers & prof handling Nigerian Refineries at Warri, Ph & Kaduna is easy meat for barely educated guys at the creek!

If you did high school chemistry and was serious about practical's, you'd understand what i am saying! All these stuffs are based on high school physics or chemistry. I know a lot of folks shutting remove subsidy because their drug mule is in support of it were smoking ganga as at then, no wonder they feel Dangote did a lot of stuffs.

That is why it was easy for the Biafra secessionists to indigenously design, manufacture unguided rockets as far back as 1968, modify capsule detonators, build an airstrip capable of receiving international flights, refine crude explore from Oguta lake areas, even the Americans & Soviets were not even technologically sharp on the Guided part of a Rocket as at then....

What stops the FG from giving them free Design Templates & areas to site their plants... small scale plants that would refine at most one thousand barrels of crude per day..... the price of PMS, Diesel would nose dive..... These was what NDDC was supposed to be lobbying and charting a course for, but when a thief or drug mule has the opportunity to recruit, guess who he's going to bring in? A fellow drug peddler or thief........ Chief of Staff to the place holder comes to mind: BOTH CONVICTS IN USA! Lol

These are some of the stuffs HE Peter Obi is coming to implement, so expect the old thieves to regroup and try to frustrate his ascension as President Fedral Republic of Nigeria within the next 9 months.

Who is your dude? Young man go and have a seat. I don't have time to explain anything to you beyond this:

Privately held companies are different from publicly held companies. In a privately held company, ownership is nearly always completely vested in board members. Ergo a hostile takeover is not possible. Any takeover would have to be by consent.

I will answer your question so you can be educated . Dangote cement has the majority market share for cement in Nigeria . As it stands today , he has 60 percent of the cement market share . So he has a grip on the market . He can decide to reduce his prices and sell at cost price to kill off competition and increase his market share . With this he controls price . If he says today that cement is 5,000 naira , others have to follow . If he he drops it to 3000, others have to follow or else they will lose their small market share .
That is unfair market advantage and monopolistic behaviour .

He did it with Dangote sugar too . So imagine being the first in the refinery business too . He will do same . Importers will not be able to match his prices and he will kill them all off because he has the advantage of producing locally . Just wait and see what he will do .
While I don’t blame him for this , afterall he is a businessman and he must satisfy his investors , i blame the government for not providing a level playing field for others to thrive .

Note: other west African countries are preventing him from selling his cement because of his monopolistic tendencies
