Make sure you keep 10% aside by any means as your personal savings apart from the money you set aside for rent, tithe, transportation, feeding etc

The cost of living and daily expenses is very high.. still it’s very important not to spend all you earn on other people .. I will suggest you save 15% monthly and 5% monthly for emergency funds .. The remain should be spent wisely as you please..

I dislike these kind of questions. Things like this is supposed to be strictly a personal decision. You are the one that knows what you are aiming at financially and what expenses you incurred regularly. I believe you are older than 18 years so you are an adult, no more a minor. You work for your money so set your own financial goal by yourself.

I don't know what is wrong with the thinking faculties of people like the OP

If you are incapable of making these sort of decisions on your own without bringing them to the internet then you are unfit to be called an adult and should still be living with your parents

Save 15% irrespective of what you earn.

This thread is just to tell us that you have to gotten a job, congrats anyway

I don't know how you expect people that do not know your expenses, your family background to tell you how much to save

My advice for you is to make sure you look for a better paying job, before thinking of settling down

Good day Nairalanders. I Recently got this job, after several attempts of applying both online and offline. My monthly salary is average #75,000 per month, I used the word "Average" because its not static. Sometimes it could lower, as low as 60,000 and hardly surpass 90,000...so it's a commission work.

And we all know commission work is not reliable, you could be fired anytime. So please my question is, with the Nigeria standard of living, couple with the recent economic hardship, so now, the question is how much is ideal to save per month from this Salary.

To and fro from my work place is around 850 per day. We report to office 3  or 4 times in a week sometimes. I noticed that at tmes I even struggled to survive on 60k a month, minus miscellaneous oooo...chai e no easy (p.s. single and I stay alone)

A rule of the thumb is 10% but if you can fleece yourself, do 20%

He earns averagely 70,000 monthly:

Transport - 15,000

Feeding (2 square meals at least) - 25,000 (especially if he doesn't cook)

Rent (assuming he get mind to live alone) - 10,000 monthly (at least 100,000 - 120,000 per annum)

Calls/Data costs - about 5,000 monthly

Health Allowance - about 2000 monthly

Electricity/Utilities - at least 6,000 monthly

Miscellaneous (You never know) - 5,000

Total - Roughly #68,000 per month

Abeg, where the 10% savings wan come from??! undecided

*Modified*
Relocate to a place closer to your work place. Assuming you go to work 5 times in a week. In about 24 working days, you would have spent 850*5 = #20,400.
Your salary minus YOUR TP is about 54,600 naira.

Rich people ONLY SPEND what's left after THEY HAVE SAVED.

If you save up to 300k to 400k naira, just buy a small land and see it appreciate in value. I drop my pen here

Very reasonable able sir, I am working on that

na there the problem dey but if he can hack stubbornly keeping 10% aside for himself monthly then he'll go very far in life financially since we all know that any money you make belongs to other people like those you mentioned grin
He should just try, whatever he realises as savings at the end of a year should be put in a business which he has researched and learnt all he needs to know about during the year
