@maclatunji-honestly honey production is not a serious business
Re: Which State Is Least Known In Nigeria? Jigawa? by Jarus(m): 11:19am On Oct 11, 2011
The claim that Ogbomosho people are the most widely travelled SWners(to the North) is indisputable.

I have heard that from many culturally-knowledgeable people, including my parents, and I saw it myself when I served in the north.
In fact, it will not be an exaggeration to claim that 1 out of every 2 Yoruba in the North is from Ogbomosho(followed, arguably, by Offa). I met a lot of them in Sokoto. Their current Oba, who was a close friend to the late Oba of my own town, also grew up in the North, Gombe precisely.

Amos 'Babatunde Aremu' Adamu, the CAF/FIFA guy, who now claims Kebbi, is from Ogbomosho. I have read about Ogbomosho indigenes being appointed commissioners and DGs in Zamfara and other northern states.

@maclatunji-honestly honey production is not a serious business here, as the methods used are local and production is on a low scale.

after lagos, the next place is anambra, cos i dont think that there's any citizen of nigeria who's ignorant of river niger and onitsha. again, ojukwu's and zik's names are boosting factors to its popularity.
Re: Which State Is Least Known In Nigeria? Jigawa? by olawalebabs(m): 5:57pm On Oct 11, 2011
People just look at micro level to judge the macro level, come to the north and mention anambra, you'll be surprise at the reply you get. Anambra may be popular in the SW. I don't have problem with that.

the most heterogenous in the west is even lagos and lagos this is all we know

states like cross river and akwa ibom, aba are the only states will known in the west

How popular do you think Oyo is outside of the SW or Ibadan?
Re: Which State Is Least Known In Nigeria? Jigawa? by olawalebabs(m): 7:56pm On Oct 11, 2011
The popularity of oyo State is the same as the popularity of Kaduna all over the country. State like Osun and Ekiti are the only least known state in the west. oyo is far popular than any state in the east.

ok since it is seen by this website that it is second largest in africa then i guess largest in africa is somewhere else other than west africa.

anyway i saw onitsha's own as largest open market

Largest open markets in africa from lowest to highest

5 The souks of Fes and Marrakech in Morocco.

Narrow alleyways, the smell of spices, bicycles being fixed, skinned goats hanging on hooks, carpet sellers following you around and lots of tea being drunk; shopping in the souks is one of the reasons why you should visit Morocco.

4 Islamic Cairo

is basically a giant bazaar and a main tourist attraction in Egypt. If you're looking for a belly-dancing costume or want a replica of King Tut's mask, this is the place to be. Get your bargaining boots on and maintain a sense of humor.

3 Kejetia Market in Kumasi, Ghana.

Beautiful Kente cloth, Ashanti crafts, bubble gum and dried chameleons, this market has it all and is considered to be one of the best in West Africa. The market is large and crowded but friendly and not too touristy.

2 Maasai Cattle Markets in northern Tanzania.

Cattle markets are held every week in small villages on the road between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Great place to experience an authentic cattle auction and get a pair of motorcycle tire sandals.

1 Merkato in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Supposedly the largest open air market in Africa, and one of the best. You can buy flip-flops, incense, spices and even kalashnikovs.

while others claim jankiri in lagos to be the largest

This is my take on the market size after some research although I would not say I have been to all the markets in Nigeria and certainly not jankiri or ibadan market

I would hope to believe Onitsha is the largest market in Nigeria, I might be wrong on this. No really sure.

Onitsha, Nigeria was once home to the largest outdoor market in West Africa. From the late 1940s through the 1968 destruction of the market building and its renowned bookstalls during the Biafran War,

maybe it once was.

may be so, I guess it is hard to make a good accession of the matter

but there are some factors that needs to be considered in terms of open markets

1. Amount of people working in the market
2. Variation of goods
3. day to day money transaction done in the market
4. quantity of goods that can be bought in the market.
5. the amount of people that go to the market to purchase goods on a yearly average

1.from expeience onitsha has more
2.from experience onitsha has more
3.onitsha is higher
4.onitsha is higher
5.i cannot say for sure
