If u want ur iMessage to work(from my experience), some things av to be in place.
1. Make sure u av enough credit (15naira) on d sim.
2. Make sure u av an apple id and u've sign in in iTunes on d laptop.
3. Make sure u av a 3G internet plan on d sim.
4. Under the fone settings, make sure ur number is showing in intl format and not showing as unknown .
5. Under the fone settings, d show my caller ID must be ON.

I will advice u to restore again but make sure u meet all d criteria. It shd work.
Before u start the restore, make sure u av signed in on iTunes.

I met all the requirements u listed. Will have to restore bt before then pls try sending me an imessage, my address is .com cos i have verified the email add wit apple.

The big boss just released the semi tethered jailbreak for ios 5. With the semi tethered your phone can boot without a pc but will only have Limited functions until the next boot via pc.

Nope. I have a 3gs, those that tried it on their 3gs all said it didnt work. The info is for those with iphone 4

I used it on one if my iphone4 and it didn't work. They still need to work on it cos it gets to the start up stage,laptop detects it but it won't boot completely.

if you restore with itunes your phone will still be on ios5.

If u restore to factory settings thru iTunes, ur BASEBAND will be upgraded. U won't be able to unlock with a chip again. BE WARNED.

^^^ Are you sure your 3G is on? Because I've never had that issue after upgrading to iOS 5. It could also be network issue maybe it just coincident.

I think it will involve opening. Fone. Dats y I cant tell u what to do cos it's risky. U need to givesomeone who has worked on d fone before.

for those using tethered jailbreak on ios5. U can use an app in cydia called semithether to reboot fully. Its called semitether because it will just let the fone boot up but at the same time it disables some apps like safari,mail and all cydia tweaks. U wont be able to use those apps while in dat state untill u boot tethered.
Also u av to sacrifice appsync and installous for it to work(meaning no cracked apps while using semitether).
d app saved me this morning while i was in d meeting. I restarted d springboard cos d memory was low,unfortunately, d fone froze. i had to reboot. after rebooting, i was able to use phone,text,twitter,facebook etc, but i couldnt check my mails, and couldnt browse on safari. I think it makes little sense cos if i didnt av d app installed, i will be forced to leave d meeting and go to my system to boot tethered. dats a sign dat untethered jailbreak is on d way
