Any movie with too much hype always ends being disappointing. The woman king was not hyped much and it ended up the best African movie in a decade so far, to me. 6 Likes |

I understand the subtle advert and promo. But most Yoruba movies are always about charms, demonic incantations, etc. Apart from that, it becomes empty.. They should outgrow that stage, seriously... |

MT: One of the aspects I love most about the movie, Jagun-jagun is that its slight deviation from the usual representations of ancient Yoruba warfare in films. It's understandable if some of us erroneously believe that Yoruba did go to wars with charms only--that's one of the damages Yoruba Nollywood has done to our history and our orientations. Some are so surprised to see the display of martial arts in Jagun-jagun. They query how Yoruba warriors could engage in sword fights like they see in Chinese movies. It's not their fault, it's because of the standards set by the Nollywood. Though, this is not the first time of seeing sword fights in Yoruba movies, I think the same was done in the "Ogun Abele Ti Je," if my memory serves me right, only that this Jagun-jagun is one of it's kind in the recent time. We need to start unlearn somethings we learned in the past. We would definitely witness more of such introductions and reintroductions in Nigerian movies henceforth. One of them is shoes. NOTE: in addition, the shapes and formations of Yoruba swords are different. Also, our iron and it's products were black, not white. copied 15 Likes 2 Shares

MT:note :the movie is not an epic true-life story but a fiction. Baba na fiction so it's all about suiting the writer's imagination not to depict a real life story. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

JI beg i beg, yoruba should stop all these juju films...they should concentrate on using modern technology in their war films. These are the kind of films Sunday igboho watch that motivate him to believe he can create yoruba nation with mere cow horn and broom. I go try watch the film anyway. |

Stopped watching after 20 minutes and deleted it. They put a bit of effort into the production but I found the acting and story sub par. Not my kind of movie but I score them high for effort. |

MT:You're weird if you think that movie is not far better than Anikulapo and who the hell told you Yorubas don't fight with swords! It's either you're not yoruba or you don't know your history. Overall, I'll give it a 8/10 cos the only flaw in it is the fact that they used a different coffin when they edited the effect of that coffin under the river. Aside that, the story and acting is 100. Maybe you should watch it again. With an open mind this time cos it's obvious you've already condemned it in your mind before you watched it. 16 Likes 2 Shares |

No bros. They used swords, guns and any other things. They used incantations because some of the soldiers are fortified. I mean why stress yourself when a cutlass or sword can simply do the job. MT: 7 Likes 1 Share |

MT:You don't know yorubas culture. Yorubas have been trading in guns with Portuguese for long and swords with the Northerners. Yorubas use both, where did yoruba get their original word for sword which is IDA from. They even have many proverbs around swords (IDA). Proverb like "kinni n yo Ida ni apo?oro",meaning what can lead to drawing sword from the its jacket if not words"..meaning, disagreement in words can led to drawing of swords to one and other! 10 Likes |
