FCT has no special status regarding votes is different from what they're going to court to seek. Trust me, they'll be fined by the court after dismissing their frivolous case. The court is a serious place. It's not a comic ground.

Bro it has a special status. The justice clearly twisted the constitution. Read the caption below after that you read the article written by Joshua Ayanda. If you say Abuja shall be treated as a state then it implies everyone is entitled to the special status the national assembly, the office of the president and federal high court enjoy. So therefore a governor is needed with other arms of federal and state appointment for it to be a state

It has been months since i added my opinion here.

On the PEPT Ruling.
They ruled that FCT has no special status and her citizens .in addition FCT is just like any other state . As the judge agreed to it and pass her judgment. Now the grey areas are here.

1. FCT will be right to demand governor and legislatures . If they want to enjoy the status of other states , this is justice . You can’t deny the citizen of FCT from the ambition of being a governor or legislature someday and still bite them to be like ordinary state.

Note: 25% votes attached to them is to show general acceptance by Nigerian as the seat of power is assume to make up of people from different corners of the country . And politicians like wike have little or no influence to rig or influence the election result of FCT since there is no governor to hold polling units to ransom .

2. If the constitution said 25% of 2/3 of 36 states and 25% in FCT as the requirement . When you divide the fraction , it expressively means : you need to have 25% acceptances in Atleast 24 states of 36 states and 25% in FCT .

Note: if you say 2/3 of 37 states , then the interpretation will fail , this is a clear sign that the constitution did not leave any grey area there.

3. For all of you saying Abuja has no indigenous people, are you saying during jamb and other forms you fill, people born in Abuja/indigenous people of Abuja can not fill in the state of their origin as FCT anymore . If FCT/Abuja has always been an option in any form which requires you to fill in state of Origin , is it not pure wickedness if you say no one’s origin is Abuja.

4. Do you not think Abuja indigenous people are marginalized if they can’t contribute to people who govern them or spend resources generating from their land. All FCT ministers are not even mandated to come from their region .

If this judgement stands in supremeCourt , then watch another drama unfolding in our political life.

Pardon my typo errors . Fix any grammar errors . Thanks

This stupid "casual observer" would not agree oh. According to him the indigenes are null and void. I have never seen a more stupid line of reasoning in my ife before

wirinet:

You are introducing a red herring into the debate. Abuja indigenes are not demanding presidential candidates should focus on Abuja and ignore other states. What they are demanding is that the person holding the political office of their governor should have at least 25% of their votes, else there should be a run off. That way the governor (in the guise of the appointee of the president) will campaign for their votes and not ignore them in decision making.

That decision of the PEPC if upheld by the supreme court will have serious long term implications for Abuja and thus Nigeria as a whole.
Lol. Which implications? It is when the 25% of Abuja argument is upheld that we will have serious problems - endless elections until 25% emerges since the person getting 25% of Abuja may not win enough states elsewhere to be declared winner, creating stalemates and possibly a constitutional crisis – Buhari kuku carry on since the winner haven't won Abuja yet. How this 25% argument even makes sense to anyone beats me.

That decision WILL be upheld. Because it already stands, before now, that Abuja is to be TREATED AS A STATE IN MATTERS OF JUDICIAL INTERPRETATION. Every lawyer knows this – ask them. And that's only convenient and commonsensical. Not that the 25% argument even begins to make sense. Heck, Lagos State or even Delta State contributes far more to this country than Abuja. But Obi (who I rooted for in the election) and Atiku have money - let them waste it going to the Supreme Court.

As an aside, if you want to know how to win an election petition, I urge you to go study the case between Oshiomhole (AC) and Osunbor (PDP) (following the 2007 gubernatorial election in Edo State). Present your case the way Oshiomhole did, prove that you WON, and no court can deny you victory. Rely on technicalities (he forfeited money, he went to Chicago, he did not win 25% of Abuja, etc.) and run the risk of being laughed out of court.

This is posted not for your benefit but for the benefit of those who actually seek knowledge and would like to talk from a position of knowledge and not ignorance or emotion. Indigenes have no claim to the land or any say in the administration of the FCT. It is there in black and white. The only claims indigenes have is claims for compensation. This is the law, if they like they can go to court and embarrass themselves like Obingoos

1. Creation of Federal Capital Territory for Nigeria

………………

6. Compensation payable
(1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any other enactment or by any srule of law, compensation payable in respect of any land comprised in the Federal Capital Territory shall be assessed and computed in accordance with the provisions of this Act.

Just because some people want to prove a point. That's fine. If their wish would be granted, but it may be difficult for them to ever be direct recipients of the benefits since they have been outnumbered there by other residents from other parts of Nigeria.

Those pushing them to it will also lose out because the real beneficiaries will be the beneficiaries of north vs south politics. There will be a constitutional crisis which I believe may give those clamouring for true federalism an anticipated change, which may benefit us all.

The thing is most of them are fake accounts. The real accounts come out once in a while to support their pseudo identities. Their job is to give legitimacy to Tinubu and his government but it is just not working.

The constitution is very clear.
25% in 36 states and 25% in the FCT.
There is a very definite reason why it was mentioned. They didn't know how to twist it so they just barrelled through it forgetting that some judgements have consequences.

In the history of Nigeria, never has it been a dispute but trust those whose mentality is "snatch and grab it" to support anything.

Can you believe that up till now there is no definite collation of how Tinubu won the election?
Up ti today Inec has refused to upload the "purpoted results".
The ones on the server are mutilated or blank sheets and some idiot will come here shouting constitution. Its Its shame really the depths we have sunk to
